  1. Most everything by Beat Bizarre is amazing - all 4 of their albums are stellar - they have a great dark vibe though it's combined with a dancy groovyness... Sensient is also really awesome - not as good for the dance floor as Beat Bizarre but great for listening.. This track by Beat Bizarre is a fine example of their dark and groovy style.. This one too - a more melodic example - the melodic rhythm that sets in around 3:00 is so killer:
  2. Yea Hardcore Blastoff is one of my top 10 fav albums ever in psytrance - they have such a fresh style! Haven't heard Healing..
  3. Check this out - it's got Blue Planet Corporation, Gaudi, Tripswitch, Digitalis, and others - best psychill compil I've heard in awhile! Mix of genres actually - but def psychedelic.. Here's a track by the female artist who compiled it (and on the cover) - Supercozi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeSp8Qer8F8
  4. The Polish Ambassador is awesome!
  5. Yea Dragon Tales and Forever After are the two best albums by Koxbox IMO. Check the track "Colordrops" from Dragon Tales
  6. Does anyone know where I can still find these? thanks!
  7. Yea I'm spooked about acid anymore - what with NBOMe's and DOx type substances out there.. More people should grow T. bridgesii, T. pachanoi, and T. peruvianus cacti though - concentrated/extracted syrup from those is a superb psychedelic, and at lower doses is the perfect all day/all evening type of thing for festivals or a day at the beach or hiking or whatever.. Higher doses is full visionary immersion and transcendence. Those species are legal in pretty much every country on earth and are gorgeous, fast growing cacti as well..
  8. Of course Cosmosis was doing psychedelics - look at like half his track names.. Also: 1. Caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol are far worse to take regularly than psychedelics. Talk about killing creativity! 2. LSD, Mushrooms, Mescaline, and DMT are non-toxic to the body/brain. Rather, they have great transformative powers. 3. There is no single "message" from psychedelics - those people who said they "got the message so hung up the phone" probably still drink caffeine and alcohol - in my opinion the real reason people quit psychedelics is because it continually confronts them with changes they could make in their life, and with their deeper issues, and most people become less comfortable with change as they age. 4. Basically, psychedelics require courage and a questing mind - alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine (and coke, heroin, speed, pills) are easy highs that provide no challenge - that's why most people eventually switch out of psychedelics into the easy drugs. 5. I hope to be dancing to psytrance on psilocybin like I do now when I'm 100 years old
  9. I'm so hooked on this group! If you are unfamiliar - This is a Canadian electro duo (and a drummer sometimes) - Alice the singer/songwriter and Ethan who does the production side - it's great melodic and fairly psychedelic electronica mixed with a sort of emo/punk rock vocal aspect. Some tracks are pure electronica and some are vocals mixed. Saw them live recently and it may have been the best show I've ever seen - freakin spectacular!
  10. Yup that's the girl, I know the name - she actually kissed me on the cheek several years ago at a psytrance party - only like 200 people there, and I had def taken notice of her - but she was clearly with a tall handsome, buff, super-cool-I-always-make-Burning Man looking type guy - so When she kissed me on the outdoor dancefloor that day I assumed (probably correctly) that it was purely platonic and she was just some open-hearted goddess type chick.. Anyhow, we introduced and def that is the same Serena in that picture there.. Damn though, it would be so much easier to meet hot hippy chicks if I was Simon Posford..
  11. Lol Damion at Psyreviews is the man - dude is hilarious - I used to get his newsletter back when he was reviewing all sorts of albums - he tells it like it is and with great style.. He posted a pic at one point of him shaking hands w Simon Posford and had photoshopped in captions of what they were saying to each other - Simon was saying to Damion "Many people think you're a God in the psytrance world", rather than the other way around.. Anyway, love this quote from Damion's review - "Museums of Consciousness is Shpongle’s fifth album, which by my reckoning makes theirs the longest trilogy in the history of music." Hahahaha... Haven't heard this new Shpongle album - not been into their more recent sound.. And I've seen them multiple times live here in Los Angeles - great deal you say? Well, not really, don't care for the live show that much and don't bother seeing him play anymore when he does. Never seen Raja with Simon - it's just Simon, who I believe lives out here in LA now - and at least awhile back had taken up with this hot chick who I'd seen before at festivals and psytrance parties - dunno if they are still together but she is I believe the one in the cover insert on the 3rd or 4th album he put out.. Anyway, their sound has gotten more into this psuedo-dancy world music type thing - disjointed is a good word for it - it lacks the deep storytelling of the first couple albums.. I might check this new album out but it's not high on my list..
  12. Psysex - "Hardcore Blastoff" was one of the ones that started it all back in 2001 and still for me easily the best of what I would call full-on..
  13. In basic order of favorite: Atmos - Headcleaner Beat Bizarre - Mukharv Sensient - The Space Between Solar Fields - Random Friday Phony Orphants - Symphony Klopfgeister - Sweet Compromise Krumelur - Minimal Animal Protonica - Form Follows Function S-Range - 2001 Stereofeld - Frequenzweschel (I didn't include X-Dream - Radio, Double Dragon - Continuum, Psysex - Hardcore Blastoff, Solar Fields - Earthshine, Koxbox - The Great Unknown, and Hux Flux - Cryptic Crunch because they don't really seem like progressive to me - more like techy, minimal/maximal psytrance - but they are among my favorite albums ever)
  14. I just don't get why it is so fast?? That's the part that turns me off - I love "dark" psytrance, but this super fast "darkpsy" music is exhausting..
  15. Just a shout out to this massively underrated progressive trance album -heard about it recently here on Psynews and am so glad I discovered it! This is slower BPM progressive but with some excellent melodies interspersed. High on the psychedelic spectrum and fairly dark - stuff going on everywhere, great detail. I love how rich the sounds are -this guy uses the nicest sounding synths and so forth - everything is so warm, deep, and full sounding. The title track is wonderful downtempo. Every track on the disc is excellent - one of the few albums I like to hear all the way through. Highly recommended album, one of my favorite progressive discs ever at this point.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUmoXnPFIJQ
  16. No denying that their first 2 or 3 albums are classics in the genre - especially the first 2 - It took me awhile to warm up to The Gathering but man, what an album! Psycho and Virtual Voyage are killer on there too.. I love the experiemental disc/disc2 on "Converting Vegetarians" also - that disc is way underrated.. I can't agree totally with Regar above either - I feel some of what you're saying, but I don't agree with the analysis - at the end of the day, Infected Mushroom created two albums that you would never mistake for anything else - their sound is totally unique to them - something I can't say for a lot of the old-school goa artists like Etnica, Dimension 5, Chi-Ad, etc.
  17. A couple killer melodic tracks by Hedonix - these can be downloaded off iTunes and elsewhere: "Cosmic Consciousness" "Olivia's Song" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MO6B7YIq5s
  18. To be honest I've never liked dancing to psytrance or goatrance that much - but progressive would be my favorite subgenre to dance to so long as it has some good layers and rythms.. In general though psytrance is just too fast for me - house music, breakbeats, psychill, sometimes dubstep - those genres are more danceable IMO - house and breakbeats though often aren't very psychedelic - finding the right mix is just great when it happens..
  19. Great thread - will check these releases out! Haven't heard many new albums this year - Hedonix - "Guerrilla Ontology" though is so far my favorite.
  20. I haven't liked the direction Shpongle has gone the past two albums - sort of chunky, disjointed world music - don't dig the vibe too much.. Maybe the new one will surprise me.. They play all the time in LA too - I'm over seeing them live that is for sure..
  21. How about X-Dream? Hux Flux was supposed to release an album last year - but it never happened and now he has been touring/playing shows like crazy - he has like 15 new tracks that you can hear parts of on soundcloud - but hasn't pulled it together and released the album - wish he would!
  22. Hedonix - "Guerrilla Ontology" - recently released - Australia. This is the biggest psytrance news of 2013 for me - their first album in 2009 "Order Out of Chaos" was the highlight of that year, and this new album appears to top the first effort. Lots of times artists get less psychedelic or just not as good with successive albums - not here - this new album is tremendous and an improvement over the stellar "Order Out of Chaos." The initial listen shows a highly psychedelic and innovative composition - if you wish for the days when psytrance took you somewhere you're going to be love this one I think.. The melodies and sounds are fantastic and memorable - and I love the way they build their tracks - slowly gathering momentum and power. Check out the trippy mindf*ck cover art also - Hedonix encodes deeper meaning into their covers - try and figure out the cover of "Order Out of Chaos" while you're at it. Psyreviews.net (Damien) is raving about it also: http://psyreviews.net/2013/04/hedonix-guerrilla-ontolog-electric-power-pole-2/ Here's some tracks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezeB8hTuhaw&list=PLNIcudu291rpeAHoX7TVGpyAC7gnVH-AM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIy4l71Hs58&list=PLNIcudu291rpeAHoX7TVGpyAC7gnVH-AM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klFnkhbg9rg&list=PLNIcudu291rpeAHoX7TVGpyAC7gnVH-AM
