Hi there! Glad you clicked the title and ended up here. What you see is yet another “Top” list made by a random nobody on the internet 😉 This time, it’s all about Goa trance tracks with beautiful leading melodies. Two key words: beautiful and melodic. Important note: these are not playlists of the “best Goa tracks ever” — they are playlists of tracks with the best melodies. Big difference. Oldschool has the priority. I’ve heard very little new school (not really my cup of tea), but there are a few new school tracks included here and there. The playlists are made for home listening, not necessarily for burning the dancefloor — though that works too. Personally, I listen to them while walking my dog or at work. Ideally, I like tracks with just one strong leading melody — not melody after melody after melody. That way the track sticks in your head and stands out. Of course, there are exceptions, like Infected Mushroom – Dancing With Kadafi (though you won’t find it here; a few IM tracks were in my drafts, but I dropped them since they’re not really Goa). Each playlist has 200 tracks. Why 200? Because that’s the YouTube playlist limit, and it’s convenient for editing. I actually have enough material for at least 3 more playlists, but sorting takes time. Sometimes I find a good track, but if it doesn’t match the quality of the others, I (sadly) cut it out. It’s been a tough selection process. You can’t cover everything. There will always be amazing tracks I haven’t heard, or forgot, or that you love but I don’t. Making choices is hard. And don’t forget: this is just the selection of some random nobody from the internet Bonus: if anyone wants the full list in Excel — I’ve got it, happy to share. Below are the first four parts. More to come…

Xenomorph - Obscure Spectre (The Horror Trip Remix) (1997) - Yesterday

I have it saved in my "still watching" list so I can always come back to it when nothing else is on 😂 Currently watching Peacemaker with John Cena. Yeah, I know, but it's actually very watchable.

Woohoo Yes, very glad to see something that is all text based 😂

Psychaos - Future Rocks. Flying Rhino Records, October 1997. UK. -
A decent compilation. Use it for background music once in a while still 😁

It's a personal art piece I imagine and like most art, some people will love it and others won't at all. If you want to make something popular it has to appeal to most people and it's hard to put your way out ideas in there.

I mentioned this track further up in this thread. Best, trippiest shoegaze track and probably my favorite track of all outside of actual psy/Goa. Toni's voice and those layers of sound!

I agree he has a lot of stronger material than Flux and Contemplation but I think a lot of people just don't get the references in that work. It is a musical representation of the COVID virus. I think the loopy music box like tune is supposed to be like a sinister analog of an ice cream truck, traveling around on its rounds all over the country, spreading the virus instead of tasty iced treats. Then all the spoken numbers obviously represent the exponential growth of the infections. That sort of abstract talky stuff was popular on some 70s psychedelic records as well.

In hidden studios beneath Neo-Kyoto, Quantum Composers manipulate sound using black-hole synthesizers. Their music generates tangible energy fields that warp reality—illegal but worshipped in underground clubs. PSYCHASM - TARGETED INDIVIDUALS 126BPM-D#

The private eye guy leaves soon. Then it's more space stuff with the main 3-person crew (along with some occasional new additions and a building of the larger outer worlds). But yeah, because of the show style/pacing, the characters are not the easiest or quickest to click with. Maybe tap out and try again in a few years if interested again. There have been some movies/shows I have not been into but then enjoyed at a very different time 😃 Cheers mate!

On my DAW I can deactivate tracks but I can't automatically activate them partway through playback. I can work around it and it doesn't hinder the final recording, but it does mean if I have too many tracks I cannot audition everything in realtime because there would be too many plugins running.

But he didn't mention "at once". It's a total number.

https://backstage-secrets.com/blog/a-man-who-opened-up-a-whole-new-dimension-in-music.html The most amazing factoid in this one for me was this: My DAW starts to choke if I have more than about 40 tracks active at once. I wonder if he is having to pre-record a lot of those to audio, as 180 software synths running in parallel would just be insane, right?

Yeah, not gonna paste it here but youtube has a transcript feature on I think all videos now. You open up the video details and a Show Transcript button is right near the bottom of that. I have a link for another interesting Posford interview from 9 years ago I am about to post and that is all text you'll be glad to hear.
-
Any transcript of it, I like to read interviews but I don't want to listen to them. I have better things to listen to than people talk (oh how I could stop listening to people talk 😆)
-
I usually like that kind of thing, but maybe the characters just never grabbed me
-
Yeah that's a nice long interview and I learned a few things I didn't know about his career. He gives some interesting insights into his creative process as well.

The Expanse is a dense show. You really got to go all in with the metaphors and imagery. It's a great show but it is long (06 seasons) and kinda slow at times. The story arc that starts it off isn't the end game. If you make it through the first season and love the characters, keep going. But if you ain't feelin' it, then don't bother. Ir's real good but is not for everyone. 😃
