I can clearly hear the melody from "Sugar Rush (Refined Mix)" by Man With No Name (1995). It's cleverly hidden beneath lots of additional layers and sounds, but it's still recognizable. To my ears, a short melodic phrase from MWNN was used as the foundation for the entire track. You can call it a cover, a remix, or a tribute — whichever term you prefer. For example, I've come across a track titled "Tribute to Etnica" where the musical references were intentionally obvious and easy for listeners to recognize. Waves of Sound is great melodic album but my favorite track from him is Voyage (both the original and Tiesto Magical remake).

Saying young stupid is probably harsh, sure you get more wisdom when you grow up but at the same time the kind of reviews you wrote sounded genuine and spontaneous, coming from the heart. When we grow up in this society we become less and less genuine, we basically say what others want to hear, and what is acceptable socially, not what we really think. Don't see why your review was bad as long as it was how you felt towards this album at the time you wrote it.

Listening to it now and all I can say is that the modern full on psytrance producers could certainly learn a thing or 12 from this!

2 Prana4ever: Thank you very much! I'm only superficially familiar with California Sunshine's work, especially their later material (although I have about 6–7 of their tracks in my favorites). This is actually the first time I've heard this 2017 track. I know that their famous "Rain" is actually Electric Universe — Rain (California Sunshine Remix). I'll share another Etnica rework, also uncredited, although in this case the track title at least hints at the original source. Etnica - Fade (2004) is essentially a cover/remix of Visage - Fade To Grey (1980). Producer, Written-By – Maurizio Begotti, Max Lanfranconi. Yet none of the original Fade To Grey songwriters are mentioned.

Holy Men — Desert Storm (1999). The “Peace No Peace” sample can be heard at 0:33 and 6:26, taken from the movie Independence Day (1996). The track has a four-minute intro, and the beautiful lead melody doesn't appear until 3:59. In the age of Shorts and Reels, that approach to music composition simply doesn't work anymore. Tracks like this get skipped after ten seconds because if they don't grab your attention immediately, it's game over. That said, for me, this track is still a Goa trance classic, regardless of its structure. I generally prefer music for home listening rather than for the dancefloor or parties, so that may be one of the reasons why I appreciate tracks like this.

I heard some were surprised that I was willing to rerelease that album in 2015, when I was still part of Suntrip Records, despite that very critic review. How is that possible? Was it just a money thing? Are we frauds? Well, no: it's been 25 years since my review above, and ooh it does feel like someone else wrote it! To me, in the pre-2000 era, the best Asia 2001 album remains "Live". And I never liked Râ or Strange World although they have some very interesting moments. At the time I thought Psykadelia was cheesy, and yet, in retrospect, I would still rank it as the second best album of Asia 2001. I should have phrased it like that. The 6.5/10 mark? Quarrelsome at best. I know there are other reviews of mine that are hasty and negative or that may have hurt the artists themselves and I am sorry for that. I was young and stupid. Fast forward 15 years, I remember calling Gilbert myself, telling him we were interested in re-releasing Psykadelia because it was a landmark in goatrance, and I was sincere. Tastes and perspective change with time. In 15 years, the student me living in Paris where so many great and big-headed parties were taking place, became a worker, a husband, a father, moved abroad, lost a mother, got a cancer, made difficult career choices...and in the meantime became a label manager, met artists, visited studios, and realized all the sweat and blood it took to make music. 15 years to learn the value of certain things. And there is still room for improvement even today. On that November 8th 2000 I had no clue, no empathy, no hindsight, and was certainly too arrogant to accept that album is kick-ass!

7.5 / 10 for me, after reading the first 2 pages of review I was expecting so much more. Good, but overrated in my opinion. Only track 4 sounds special to me.

Yeah I would definitely be interested in what you think of IM The Supervisor. I wouldn't give that album more than about 2/5 either to be honest. It is just that in reviews people sound like they think it has no redeeming features at all, whereas I did enjoy a few interesting melodies.

The track you're looking for is 4 Winds Circle & Electric Universe - 4 Tune Circle. It's been on a few compilations, Positive Alchemists Vol 1, Goa Vol 15.
