  1. Hello friends! 2. Artist: Negans Title: Danse Macabre EP Label: Neogoa Date: October, 2016 1. Midori 2. Into Asylum 3. Life On Earth 4. Danse Macabre "Holy sh*t it's walking upright! Get the camera! Get the f*cking camera!" It's tough to stand out in a crowd. Mostly. We all crave acceptance even when we have something different to offer. Goa trance has reached the saturation point (some would argue that this happened years ago) where the music has become homogenized. Perhaps there's no place left to go? Well, certainly the minds at Neogoa don't believe that as evidenced from their past releases. This is also along those lines. Negans is Elie Seigneur and with his debut EP he has created something...hmmm. I dunno. Part goa of course, psytrance, and it certainly has a dark vibe. But I can't put it in a box and that terrifies the OCD gremlin inside me. She is so evil. You should see her go batsh*t crazy at a public bathroom when mouth breathing knuckle draggers don't wash their hands. So. Much. F-word. Back on topic, the ultimate test of music of course is whether it moves you and if it did and you liked the way you moved, do you want to hear it again. And I just don't know where I am with this. The sound is great (Igor Ceranic) as well as the artwork, but none of the tracks blew me away like the final two from The World Beyond did. That might be false equivalence as those last two tracks were some of the best goa trance I've ever heard. There are aspects in all four of the tracks that were quite appealing, but the sum hasn't put me over the top yet. I do know that each time I give it a listen I end up liking it more and more. So more spins it is! A nice, even number. My gremlin demands it. Must...keep it...under....control!!! Holy sh*t I hope no one has a seizure from this! Neogoa Bandcamp Ektoplazm
  3. I could really use the input of some knowledgable heads to identify any or all of these tracks, if at all possible. Can't provide any suggestions of era and to be honest I can't even be sure of the specific genre other than to say I think they're broadly psy or goa trance, nonetheless any help anybody can give would be well appreciated. 4. Neogoa Records is proud to present the long-awaited new Ultimate Xperience (UX) release Lazarus Rising featuring new productions by this legendary psychedelic trance act. This conceptual mini-album is the introduction for the upcoming Ultimate Xperience double-CD album, The Realm Of A New Dawn, which will include most of the music from this release and should come out sometime in early 2017 under the Neogoa Records banner. Kris Kylven, the mastermind behind the project, put a lot of effort and time into making this release possible. Here he introduces a new vision and direction for the project, an important and vital part of the Goa trance scene with vast experience and knowledge spanning two decades. Now, Ultimate Xperience is ready to take one step further and present this music to the world in the best possible fashion! All tracks written, performed, engineered, and produced by Kris Kylven @ Universum Maschine Studio (Laibach, Slovenia) except track 5, originally written by Ben Watkins & Mike Maguire (appearing here with kind permission). Mastered by Charles Michaud @ Préférence Mastering. Track 7 post-production mastering by Mark Nomen at dB Factory. Artwork design by Kris Kylven and Richpa at Neogoa Design. 6. Artist: Various Title: High Times Deep Psychedelic Diving Part 2 Label: ID & T Music Germany Date: 1998 *Not doing a track list cause there's too many and I need to poop.* "Omigod! Did I get any on me? Oh Jesus I think I did. AAAAAHHHHH....I can't get the taste out of my mouth!" Ugh. You definitely don't want to get any of this first disc on you. Not even Tide with Febreeze would get this out. Good news...there are a lot of styles to be found on the first disc of the compilation. Bad news...doesn't mean a damn thing when most of them are executed this poorly. Picture leaving the club with three women. Sounds like a good time until it's revealed that you hooked 2 sleestacks and Olive Oil. And yes I linked a pic of what a sleestack is. Square Dream has some nice acid 303 spark, but if I have to wade through the shallow end of the gene pool to hear it I'm not interested. If my words mean nothing, then perhaps this image will explain things better. Not only never ending running, but running up steps with stunted Italian plumber legs. So after classifying the first disc as pure coaster material I had little hope that the second one would be worth a damn. And it's a lot better. But let's be honest a frisbee with a pizza slice missing would be more useful. Oforia's Why Not On Mars? and Mutate and Survive by Somaton stick out, but Space Angel by Subcouds isn't bad either. But you already have those so this is as necessary as Grandma Myrtle's extra pinky. Seriously grandma, WTF? Discogs often overestimates the worth of some albums and compilations, but man sometimes they hit the nail right on the head. Paying more than the cost of a happy meal for this will leave a bad taste in your mouth.
  7. Artist: Various Title: Evolutive Perceptions Label: Goa Madness Records Date: November, 2015 1. Omnivox - A Part of Change 2. Space Elves - Bitter and Twisted 3. Asmik - Shimmering Onexta 4. Ohm Mind & Proxeeus - Shiva Awakens 5. Jaraluca - Illumination 6. Arcane Voice - Infinite Amount of Energy 7. Cosmic Dimension - The Dark Matter 8. Nova Fractal & E-mantra - Butterfly Effect 9. Ephedra - Winter Breaker "My little parties wouldn't be the same without you!" "Man...he's acting like a maniac. What did he take?" "Nothing, he just asked for a Fresca." I used to love to go to parties. Get smashed out of my mind and dance with any lady of the moment hoping to have a story to tell the next day. What a pig I was. Goa Madness is a label that as of yet hasn't had that many releases, but each release has been marked by quality. No exception here. This album is over a year old and deserves it's own review thread. It's melodic and entrancing with names you know and a few you don't. Some of the tracks are lush and atmospheric and most have nimble cat-quick leads that move as if on hot coals. Standouts include the floating A Part of Change by Omnivox and the thick and chunky blaster Illumination by Jaraluca. The latter comes at you in waves and the 2nd half is scorching. The Dark Matter is another take no prisoners rocker while the Nova Fractal / E-mantra collaboration was a little disappointing. Good track, but when you put two heavyweights like them together I expected more sparks. I enjoyed this compilation as it contained zero filler. Nothing groundbreaking (what is these days?) just solid goa trance. Overall another great release by this label and worth a spot in your collection. Beatspace Psyshop

  9. Artist: Symbiote Title: Symbiote EP Label: DAT Records Date: April, 2014 1. Phantasmagoria 2. Tiara 3. Abstraktd Draeke (Federico if you're nasty) is the head of DAT Records and has played an integral role in today's goa trance most notably in making the old new again. The results have been nothing more than spectacular with releases from old school masters like Blue Planet Corporation, Crop Circles, and the massive Etnica double CD. He's like the six million dollar man making old music better. Stronger. More awesome. Every conversation I've ever had with him has been polite and enjoyable. He seems to really enjoy what he does and is probably having the time of his life. If I lived in Europe and didn't have these anchors known as children perhaps we'd travel the highways together in a van solving mysteries. We would make money by him playing festivals and I of course would play robin hood, taking advantage of the burgeoning organ black market by swiping kidneys from criminals and rich a**holes to give to poor orphans. Ah, but that's a story for another time. Symbiote is Samuel Cote from Quebec in the state north of my country that doesn't realize it's only a matter of time before it becomes assimilated into the borg. Originally made in 97 (I smell classic) Draeke gave it the DAT treatment and voila we have another EP in the arsenal. And another withdrawl from my bank account. So did he strike gold again and become the 50 ft tall jewel encrusted golden giant? Well, yes and no. Phantasmagoria is everything you could hope for. Ridiculous layers, absurd length fostering the creation of said layers, and the whole thing crackles with an intense energy that sears everything it touches. It's insanely driving music that I have never heard before. It reminds me of this one off track. Delicious! Tiara is even longer, but lacks the intensity of the first track. It's veeeeery repetitive and has more in common with dream trance than goa. Nowhere near as interesting. Which brings me to Abstraktd. The final track that drones on for almost 15 minutes at a slower speed increasing in volume to an almost abrasive level. My least favorite here. So for me this wasn't up the usual DAT standards. But hey Michael Jordan never met a shot he didn't like, but that didn't stop him from taking them. And we all know how that turned out. I don't know if he is still making music, but it would be interesting to hear what he could do with improved technology. Even though I didn't care for this EP, Phantasmagoria is a track that you should hear. Nay...a track that you must hear. DAT Records Psyshop Beatspace Mdk

  11. Artist: Various Title: Psychedelic Club Trax - Future Sounds of Goa and Trance Label: Hypnotic Date: 1997 1. Asbraasia - Whirlpool--Kaos 2. X-Plore - Xemini (Mental Mix) 3. Donut Junkie - Blue 4. Recipe - Capture 5. Aerial Servant - Glockwork 2 6. Latex Empire - Acidchild (LP Edit) 7. Amtraxx - Morphia 8. Bloque - Legoland 9. Moonstalker - Stereoids 10. Mayflyer - Signal 1 11. Hval - Teint "Man this blows." "Bullsh*t. It's got an Indian deity on it. You know it's good." Sigh. You're both right. In my search for the perfect acid compilation I realize that like goa, you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince Tantrance. So far this one has had the most oomph for which I search. The opener grabs your attention right away and Donut Junkie's Blue is a monster. Just wish it wasn't so short. Glockwork 2 has some nice 303 snap and bite, but the sound is a little uneven. Acidchild is groovy, but after that...man some slim pickings. It's like the album f*cking fell off a cliff. I mean Signal 1 is a headache inducing speed freak. And what would an acid compilation be without something completely ridiculous shoved in at the end? So when I say this one is the best I've heard so far I think it means that it's less packed with annoying, go nowhere, linear, zero creativity crap. So that's a win. Right?
  12. Artist: Various Title: Faith, Hope, and Psychedelia Label: A.R.D. Date: 1998 1. Beach Buddha - Cloudburst 2. Disco Volante - Chameleon (Movement Mix) 3. Ylem - TNKA 4. Esion God - Alice In Thunderland 5. 3000003 - Green Bishop 6. Max & Amino - Chemical Imbalances 7. Discordia - Analytic 8. Imago - Black God 9. Art of Trance - Mosquito 10. Binary Finary - Anthemic 2 "Shaggy you f*cking burnout, are you sure this is where you dropped the DAT tape?" These days I don't believe there are any undiscovered classics floating around the goa sphere. With the internet someone surely would've uncovered gold like that. Maybe Draeke from DAT Records can do it. Or the guys from Zion or Suntrip, but it's pretty rare. Still, it's a pleasant feeling when a fairly decent album comes to your attention. Since I began searching for all things goa this still happens and I'm glad it does. The info on this release says that it was a charity CD featuring the finest psychedelic trance and techno in aid of Indian street children. The finest? I'll be the judge of that. At least this disc has some artists I'm familiar with and you'll be glad to know that the goa flavor is well represented. After a very unimpressive opening track Disco Volante gets things going with a simple offering. I'm sure their filter cutoff knob fingers got a workout cause that's all this track did. But, better. Ylem enters full goa mode with a powerful and melodic track. I would love to hear this with a good re-mastering. Alice in Thunderland is thunderous, and could also do with a good mastering. Sensing a theme? Green Bishop is a clanky house beat nothing more and Chemical Imbalance is weak techno. Analytic has bass that is entirely too loud, but Black God by Imago is some pretty good goa. I wasn't a fan of the Art of Trance album Wildlife One, but this track was kinda cool. It's a bit tribal with a "mosquito-sounding" lead and it gets a little funky at the end. The last track was a bowl of meh. So several styles are represented here, but you only get credit if the tracks in those styles are worth a listen. As I mentioned the tracks sound a little muffled and could use a good mastering. Because of the above this cannot be called a "gem", but there are a couple of tunes worth hearing.
  13. Okay, I am entering a beehive here, I know, but what's the best track of all 100+ if not 1000+ tracks of this goa producer with various aliases? Name only one. My choice is Denaris-80.000 Pounds of Crude from Hearts of Goa album. Unfortunately no link because it isn't online anywhere. Nevertheless the vocals are the best in this track: GET DOWN!

  15. Artist: Javi & SkoOma Title: Anatidaephobia EP Label: Timewarp Records Date: June, 2016 1. Save the Universe 2. Butterpsy Effect 3. 1123581321 4. Dark Side of Our Foot Ummm...is that...a, uh...I mean...seriously? That's a thing? Apparently anatidaephobia is a thing and it means a fear of being watched by ducks. All I know is Daffy is making me feel a bit uncomfortable right about now. I think I have it. No seriously, I think I have it now. I'll never look at ducks the same way. The funniest team name in goa is back at it with another ep of goa trance. There was like zero publicity for this digital ep so I'm happy to help the masses become woke. I think if you're going to have a track that deals with saving the universe (pretty big deal) it should have more gravitas. This was kind of flat. Not terrible, but I think the universe deserves better. Or maybe it doesn't. Butterpsy is ok and gets better by the end, but it just didn't grab me. The next track though...It'll grab you by the p*ssy. I don't know what the significance of the track name is, but I will tell you that it is psychedelic as f*ck. Trippy sounds and melodies that twist and turn. The last track is also hella good, powerful goa. So at the very least the final two tracks will make a welcome addition to your goa collection. Good job gentlemen. Timewarp Records
  16. Hi all, another uptempo track for free to listen to. It's something I'm not 100% sure of to have it released (I think it stands better as a "stand-alone" track), but I still wanted to supply my Soundcloud followers something new. Here ya go! Dragon Twins - Tuco, The Shyster
  17. Artist: Fractal Vivisection Title: Through The Vortex Label: Timewarp Records Date: November, 2013 1. Interplanetary Voyage 2. Traveling Apart 3. Interstellar Gliding 4. My Name Is Trance 5. Molecular Instability 6. Distant Echoes 7. Tachyon 8. Subconscious Flashback 9. Traveling Apart Pt. 2 One, that cover is hideous. Two, I have been listening to this for a while and it made me think of cats. "Jack! Jack! Get the f*ck in here! Check it out...That fat f*cking dog just put a slice of pizza on my head. I know, I know...*makes explosion motion with paws* mindblowing. Quick get a shot of it so I can put it on my Facebook!" What the f*ck is wrong with people? Excuse me, what the f*ck is wrong with cat people? There is a cat with a slice on its head. In space. Why does this even exist? To what purpose? If you've visited the internet since ever people have this (in my view) unhealthy and psycho infatuation with cats. A quick google search will take you to countless images of cats where there should be no cats. I think it's a game of one upmanship to post pictures of cats in the most random and non-sensical situations. This is one of the latest releases from Timewarp and it's a bit of a surprise. It's a mixture of deep space trance and goa elements. There is a very futuristic and cosmic feel to it (just peruse the track names) with lots of layers. When I first heard it I couldn't stand it. Turned it off and went on to review sh*tty ful-on compilations that nobody asked for. But somehow I came back to it. It's not the best thing I've heard and certainly not on going to challenge E-Mantra. But it's not meant to be. I like it when artists combine genres (mostly) and while some of it sounds simple and cheesy a lot of it is very engaging. Every time this Russian gets to the goa parts I start liking it and get sucked back into the dreamy atmosphere. It's not for everyone and like I said it had to grow on me. But I would easily say it is worth a listen. We can't all be as enlightened as this guy. "No way man, no way! I think you just won the internet!" Beatport Mdk
  18. Artist: Lunar Dawn TItle: Triglav Label: Neogoa Records Date: April, 2016 1. Jav 2. Nav 3. Prav 4. Golden Arms Of Kresnik (Journey Into Sound Remix) 5. Svarog's Celestial Fire (Proxeeus Remix) 6. Golden Arms of Kresnik (Lectro Spektral Daze Remix) 7. Svarog's Celestial Fire (Dragon Twins Remix) "Darkness! No parents! Super rich! Kinda makes it better!" I did not realize that Triglav was also the name of a heavy metal band from the Ukraine. But I ain't about that. Gotta love Neogoa. A label whose only goal was to release quality goa trance for free has certainly blossomed into something quite irreplaceable. While they still stay true to the mantra of goa trance liberation they've also dipped their toe into limited album sales. To which I say thank God because the music they release is certainly worth having in physical form. Lunar Dawn recently released their debut album Kolovrat which was steeped in Slavic folklore and mythology. Triglav is a continuation of that with 4 extra tracks (remixes of two tracks from that debut album) for those that order the digipak. This duo is no stranger to an album full of remixes or have you forgotten the Blessings From Irij digital release? On top of that the artwork in the form of wallpapers are also included. The cover is quite intricate and invites the eye to search out new apects every time I look at it. Jav certainly sets the medieval atmosphere with a very folksy and Games of Thrones gravitas. You can just feel the mud of the land and the privileged royalty. Nav is where we get down to the business of goa trance. And also where we get a real world instrument contribution on the bouzouki from Amir John Haddad whcih adds to that ethnic vibe. I'll be honest I felt very European listening to that. Prav for me was the weakest track that felt too full-oney without any of the feelings of the others. But then we get to the remixes and it's a tough job to remix great tracks. One thing that is a must for a remix is that it cannot be a carbon copy of the original with just a few different sounds. And the two chosen for remixes were some of the best tracks on Kolovrat. Golden Arms of Kresnik and Svarog's Celestial Fire are such epic tracks that carry the medieval folk melodies as a shield on one arm and a battle axe of goa trance in the other hand. The remix by J.I.S. gives it some hyper motion with other melodies and a break that was quite appealing. The LSD remix of the same track however felt unremarkable and inferior to the original in pretty much every way. Too herky jerky for my tastes. Proxeeus had me with that 303 wobble and I never looked back while the Dragon Twins applied a little BOTB acidic flare to their effort. Both with great results. I appreciate the effort that went into this and for Lunar Dawn and Neogoa to offer this as a physical release well I think it's got its place in my collection. Happy to have it there. That said it's not the shiniest gem in the Neogoa crown with a couple of tracks that fall short of greatness. Sometimes I felt that it was seemed more important to incorporate the ethnic mythological feel in the tracks that the actual goa trance took a back seat. I didn't feel that way with Kolovrat. It was so deep and involved and struck a harmonious balance. That said the majority of the music found within is really good. Sound quality is beyond reproach from my ears and the art is a joy to behold. Free at Ektoplazm, but don't be a cheap f*ck...buy the digipak and get the 4 extra tracks.

  21. Artist: Mana Source (Filipe Santos) Title: Kanji EP Label: Submoon Records Date: March, 2015 1. Bonsai 2. Shinto 3. Ninja 4. Reiki 5. Kanji 6. Okami Dude is clearly a wizard. And a machine. A mechanized wizard with f*cking super goa powers. Whatever pseudonym he operates under (and he has many) he makes booming, twisting, goa trance that destroys dancefloors. His erratic behavior that has been well documented on these forums is the only negative which has kept him from assuming his rightful position as ruler of the goa kingdom. I don't think it's any secret that he has been suffering for a long time and perhaps that's the reason for his attitude and mood swings. Certainly his talent and ability have never been in question. This is more of what he does best. Layered melodic goa trance with an edge. Melodies twist and turn as it flows very well. Good driving music I can tell you. I realize this sounds like a Psyshop promo (minus the sketchy English), but he continues to impress. I believe if he punched me in the stomach the music is so good that I might say, "OK, you earned that one." Alas, Submoon is no more, but it has been reincarnated in the form of Good Dance Recordings. This is where you will find it digitally. I am unsure if there are any further physical copies. But whoever is behind that profile here at Psynews is becoming a presence and I'm sure will respond to your queries. Good Dance Recordings (digital)
  22. Artist: Various (It's Filipe) Title: Emotions From A Beija Flor Label: Good Dance Recordings Date: August, 2016 1.Jonni Dongju - Lion Savannah 07:07 2.Mana Source - Samurai 06:28 3.Tanzaku - Tanabata 06:56 4.Gankyil - Dhyani 06:25 5.Mana Source - Weevils Fly 06:22 6.Chynacid - Zen Dimensions 07:07 7.Medusis - Profound 07:40 8.Amithaba Buddha - Psyramid 07:53 9.Mana Source - Bonsai 07:13 10.Athenaia - Secret 06:38 11.Rainbow Islands - Seventh Heaven 06:08 Now this type of deja vu I don't mind. The Filipe Santos recycled greatest hits tour continues with his latest digital release. As I mentioned before in other reviews of his work I believe him to be more machine than man, churning out so many quality goa trance tracks that it defies imagination. The music is pure uptempo, melodic, layered goa and normally he intersperses some new tracks amidst the older stuff. Not today Gertrude. All have been released before, but from top to bottom this album is a blistering affair. Not a single dull moment to be found and one of the best collections of his music to date in my opinion. He should comment less on forums and get back to doing this type of stellar work, we'd all be better for it I'll tell you. I'm especially thankful for the Psyramid track as I had forgotten how utterly bad ass it was! My other favorite is Weevils Fly, a full-throated screamer of a track. Aside from the horrible cover (and let's be honest it's been a run of those) this thing is damn near flawless. Highly recommended. Good Dance Recordings

  24. Artist: Various (It's Filipe) Title: Zamaneh Sanguine Label: Good Dance Recordings Date: August, 2016 1. Washi - Shodo 2. Amithaba Buddha - Regain Control 3. Athenaia - Orphic Mysteries 4. Gankyil - Le Labyrinthe De La Grisaia 5. Pandemonium! - Sequoia 6. Ba'al - Profane 7. Pandemonium! - Clown In A Bag 8. Lost Buddha - Spiral Rotation 9. Pandemonium! - Wishing Machine 10. Amithaba Buddha - Uncharted Planet 11. Sphere of Consciousness - Sphere of Consciousness Bipolar disorder is no joke. Mood swings that can be severe, lasting months and is oftentimes hard to diagnose. Panic attacks. Real ones, not the ones we suffer when we go someplace without wi-fi. This is apparently what Filipe was struggling with and would definitely explain his behavior over the years. Hopefully that's in the past and with his medication here's to wishing him good health and progress. We know the type of music Filipe makes and the fact that he's been this productive is a testament to his talent. With one of his latest Zamaneh Sanguine combines Chinese and Arabic to mean "Time to be Optimistic." And if you've struggled with depression or bipolar disorder then any bit of optimism you can find is cherished like water in the desert. Although that cover doesn't look very optimistic. Perhaps he's closing the door on his demons and not looking back. The trend with Filipe's music as of late has been to make compilations where most of the tracks have been released before. Before you characterize that as a cash grab, I offer you this. He has been making music for over a decade and perhaps some of the tracks didn't measure up to today's production standards. Possibly due to his condition, he would often create a label and release some music and then just as quickly it would disappear. So for those who didn't purchase or have access to the treasure trove I see this as a positive. Also some of them you can't even find. The older tracks have been re-rendered (clearing up some vocal samples) and remastered with him adding some things where he thought necessary. He chose some of his favorites to put on this album along with one track that to my knowledge only showed up on the digital Cosmic Disorder compilation from 2007. Yep, Clown In A Bag. The new tracks are exactly what you'd expect from Filipe. Brutish power and layers of melody packaged in a seamless bundle. Shodo is a blistering opener while Orphic Mysteries races with abandon. Really blissful. New Gankyil always brings a smile and this plows straight ahead with some snap and pop. Profane delivers more of the same with a playful lead. I'll be honest with you. I can't tell an Amithaba Buddha from a Lost Buddha; and I wouldn't know a the difference between a Pandemon ium! and a Chynacid. The music is super and perfect if you want to build your Filipe Santos collection. Great taste of a bunch of his projects. Good luck with further releases and also with your recovery.
