As a father of two I have other responsibilities so spoon feeding you wisdom and comedy has unfortunately tumbled down the priority ladder like Mr. Glass in Unbreakable. But that doesn't mean I've stopped listening to our music. Just can't review everything I hear. Someone's gotta put dinner on the table, do the laundry, clean the house, and make sure the kids don't die. So when I came across this guy I simply had to write about it. Ascent is Bojan Stojiljkovic and with a name like that I'm guessing he's from psytrance promised land otherwise known as the Balkan region. Don't quote me on that though I've been wrong before. This three track EP has made me thirsty for more. Much more. He straddles the line between progressive and psy like Ovnimoon. Each track is detailed to overflowing involving the listener in his story. Big time entrancement with a gloomy atmosphere. Seems like everyone is doing progressive these days and it's hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. But this guy is doing it right. I can't wait to listen to more of his melodic and moody stuff. Hi there, my name is JanOsh. After being a DJ for many years in the 90s, I teamed up with my friend Andy Shiva (co-founder of SST) to start the Psytrance project "Lemurians" for the label Shiva Space Technology. That was in 1999. Together we toured the world and had a great time. Then in 2004 I decided to take a break from electronic music. I think I just wanted to move in a diffrent direction. A break that lasted over a decade now. The reasons for that are as enigmatic as my itch to start producing electronic music again. "Systema Lemuria" is my new electronic project and the result of everything I experienced in- and outside the world of Psytrance. A little selective alzheimers can get you outta some sticky situations. And right back into them if you're the United States government. "Wait...Iraq again? Yeah I saw this movie. It ends with a lot of pissed off brown people and some unwanted heavy petting from the TSA when I fly to Buffalo. Whether he's Talpa or The Riddler the man is simply a rock star. Probably touring the world banging hot chicks wherever he touches down. His previous albums and ep's clearly separated the projects. You knew Talpa when you heard it. With this EP however he's become a hybrid or a doppelganger if you will. The eerie melodies of Talpa coalesce with the funky groove of the Riddler on the title track. Beautiful stuff. He straddles the line between progressive and psy easily seen in Perfect Psychopath. Hell that track is all over the place. He's doing his own thing and keeping it entertaining. Even oceanic waves, singing birds, grasshoppers, 19th century steam trains and strange fx tricks like moving stereo fields and unusual melodic transitions are part of Dreamland. It's All Static 9. Voxel9 - Transita Astra I'm ignorant about a lot of things. I mistakenly thought the country of Georgia was in the Balkans. I still don't understand the need for geometry proofs or why anyone would want to watch someone defecate on another person. Guess I'm innocent. But the list doesn't end there. Take this album for example. No it's not a new CD even though the guy is quite prolific. This is a remastered album of material from 2004 and is exactly what you would expect from the psytrance genre back then. Full on without the goa prowess he regularly wields today. A heavy sci-fi atmosphere and lots of sound effects with too many empty stretches will be found here. Tracks like Halfdeaph and Groove It Up shine the brightest for me both being quality twilight numbers. The last two tracks weren't on the original release with the last one being from his downtempo/ambient project. Liked that one also. Sounded like the dawn after a thunderstorm. He's been around a long time and this album shows just how far he has come from hawking Cds he burned himself out of the trunk of a Nissan Sentra after gigs. Cause ummm...you can't touch him now. How close are you guys from Chernobyl? Would explain a lot. This is Giorgi Schadenfreude or something like that and he's been doing his thing for a decade. The Priest of Voodoo- This is a very interesting track. Not your run of the mill goa by any stretch. Loaded with sounds and sporting a techno-tribal influence I wouldn't kick you in the nuts if you didn't call it goa at all. Hyperspace- If you were waiting for the goa well here it is. Acidic flame licking leads dance above the bubbly and whiplike 303. The break is well done. Mahakala- There he goes with that 303 again. Not that I'm complaining. The melodies twist and turn all the while storming across space. Got a little bit of a Colorbox feel with that lead and that is always awesome. Acid Fury- Hmmm. You'd think with a track called Acid Fury there'd be more acid and...well, fury. Not bad, but slightly disappointing. "Man that is flagrant false advertising!" Yeah like that.
