  1. Love your mixes! Just the kind of prog I was looking for, thanks for sharing them. Followed you on SC.
  2. This or Real Nitemare? I liked this more, it has more interesting melodic lines and the mix is better balanced, Nitemare sounds more like a rough draft ATM.
  3. Just in case my post was not clear, access virus is a hardware synth, you don't need a computer at all to use it. This dude sequences it from his laptop, but you may use a hardware sequencer or play live (there are keyboard versions). U-he Diva is software, but a really good one, people say it sounds like analog gear.
  4. May become a great track if finished and properly mixed. IMO, the lead melody needs some variation (or at least some automation), the kick needs more power. I loved this synth with sweeping resonance which is sitting in the background.
  5. I'd suggest a Virus as a great all-rounder synth. It's digital, but it has really juicy analog-modelled filter which makes it a good choise for liquid squelchy leads, also it is great for pads and effects. But it may sound too modern to your taste (however it can sound really warm if you want this). Here is a goa track (not mine) made with a Virus tweaked in realtime If you are not completely against software instruments, you may also consider something like laptop running Diva with a knobby MIDI controller.
  6. If you want to avoid clipping while mixing just turn your levels down. I set my kickdrum around -10 to -12 dB and balance all the other things around it, thus the overall level at master bus doesn't exceed 0 dB and I have few dB headroom. Or you may just lower your masterbus fader, would be the same thing. Afaik, many mastering studios require mixdowns peaking not louder than -3 or even -6 dB. There are people at psynews who understand mastering 1000 times better than me and they can explain it from the professional point of view, but to my understanding this should be important if your track is to be mastered with analog gear (because it has non-linear response to input levels) and also many plugins emulating the behaviour of analog processing are calibrated to certain input volume. You may mix into compressor if you want to acheive a special effect, where the attack and release of the compressor are set to interact with the groove of the track. But I'm not sure why you may want your track to be squached with a limiter while you mix it. Or you are talikng about limiting the individual channels? This is OK if not overdone. Generally, a mix should sound good (groovy and powerful) without any compressor or limiter on master bus. This way you make sure that it will sound even better with them.
  7. During the mixing my master bus has only one plugin - Voxengo SPAN (frequency analyser, it is free and highly recommended). After exporting the wav file I do some kind of lame self-mastering with these tools: - U-He Presswerk - does parallel compression (about 3 dB GR) to glue the mix a bit - U-He Satin - adds a bit of "fake-analogue oomph" (some mixes sound better without it) - Izotope Ozone 7 - I use a custom preset which I adapt to a specific track, the goal is basically to increase loudness. - Span (again)
  8. I'd prefer a special version for me, with good vocals Sasha Grey is good in many areas but singing is not one of them, sadly
  9. Did it ever mean anything else? I'm really puzzled by these subgenre definitions
  10. Love this compilation, especially tracks 1, 2 and 6 https://iboga-beatspace.bandcamp.com/album/floating-point-ii-v-a-iboga-records the next one in this series is also not bad, especially the third track completely blows my socks off https://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/sfb/sfb1cd003.html Also these ones are very old but still belong to my favourite downtempo releases https://www.discogs.com/Various-Psychedelic-Ambience/release/1287550 https://www.discogs.com/Ejector-Ambient-Surrounding/master/81871
  11. U-recken, Digicult, Ephedrix, Aquila (mostly), Pulsar & Thaihanu (mostly). I'm on the cheesier side of psy, as you may see Of course, it is not possible to have all tracks being equally great but even the worst U-recken tracks are much more interesting for me than average psy. Sadly, there are much more artists who have one or two great tracks appearing on some compilations, but their own albums mostly having filler stuff, than those who produce music with consistent quality.
  12. I really like this album. Mysterious and deep but not excessively dark, melodic but not cheesy. Right sounds in right places, that it the sound picture is neither too minimal nor overcrowded with different sounds and effects like some other psy productions - that's the sign of good taste.
  13. Thanks for sharing this, but who on earth would use sampled sequences written by someone else in his own tracks? This allways puzzled me about samplepacks like this, seems to be waste of time and effort to write these loops.
  14. The singing here is so bad that it is even good If we discount the vocals and some occasional guitars, the music itself is not bad at all - beautiful, intricate and well produced.
  15. Yeah, probably. Something makes me believe that the original sound comes from a Virus - I managed to get similar effects with Virus bandpass filter and flanger (and everybody and their mom is using it so chances are high) . Spire imitates these components of Virus to some extent so it can probably be a good choice too. But still, rectreations are good but I'm also interested in the exact original patch
  16. Pretty much may be. Also Motion Drive uses it (spotted it just yesterday in their The Last Jedi track, at 1:25 and 1:52). It would be bad because thus I'll never know how it was originally made. There is something special about the filter character in this sound.
  17. I've heard this sound in several psy tracks made by different people, so I assume it may be a preset from a synth. here at 0:14 here at 5:15 sounds the same or almost the same I want to dissect this sound in order to make different variations of it (i have Virus TI and various SW synths). Maybe someone has exactly this preset or knows how this sound has been made?
  18. I am a Russian but I take it easy. It was ironical, no offence taken at all I actually understand what you are talking about, I'm not into drugs and rave parties, for me psytrance is just music I love and nothing more, but I'm aware about our drug dealers and their connection to horrible Russian darkpsy music. Well, if you are living in India and know the word "Krokodil", that's not a good sign actually.
  19. Sorry for the OT, it reminds me a story from my highschool days. In our class there was a dude who was an Jehova's witness. He didn't smoke, unlike everybode else around these days, and he used to say that his religion considers smoking to be a serious sin. But he usually had a lighter in his pocket, no idea why. Once I've asked his lighter to fire my cigarette but he refused to give it to me, explaining that it would make him participating in my sin which is just as bad as if he sinned himself, accoridng to his belief. I was wery angry because of nicotine starvation, but finally we agreed on that he gives his lighter to another dude who was standing nearby, and this another dude gives it to me. Well, you get the idea. He didn't participate in the sin. He made another chap participate in my sin. Clever guy.
  20. People that mindlessly follow this or that trend or subculture are the worst lot, it has nothing to do with the music or the subculture itself. There is a Russian word "Govnari" (loosely translated as "shitheads") which denotes the very same thing but relating to Russian punk-rock and metal scene affictionados, namely to the worst part of them. These people are also known for randomly absorbing various cultural symbols, where the sources vary from orthodox gospel to Castanedas books, without giving a fvck about their actual meaning. So, it's not psytrance, it's (some part of the) people behind it.
  21. When making mp3s from wavs make sure that the wavs are peaking at not louder than -0.3 dB. If they go to 0 dB, lower them to -0.3.
  22. I've noted that when Trance2MoveU writes something like "the crappiest of the crappy full-on crap ever made", chances are that I'll like the music, I've discovered a bunch of nice albums in this way, so please do review some more crappy full-on cheese! But I agree that the first of this series was not very good. The fifth one is their best and one of my favourite full-on releases ever, 3rd and 4th are also not bad at all.
