  1. I'm a poor audiophile, so im really more of a 'wannabe' since i cant afford good stuff. I really like my headphones though, Sennheiser HD280s. They are very clear/crisp and are designed for mastering. They're great for psy since you can hear every little thing, stuff i had never heard before getting them. They basically make the music sound how it was meant to They're really loud too. My stereo kinda sucks (two 6 1/2" woofers with tweeters) so i don't use it much. I listen to most of my music on headphones or in my car (i have a pretty nice system, no subs though since they just make the music sound like crap/muffled)
  2. Maximal or in between, minimal is only good in small doses, and most of the minimal stuff i like is very 'dark'. It gets really boring if you try listening to a whole album of it IMO
  3. It's one of the first psy tracks i ever heard, and i probably listened to it 2-3 times a day for about a month (this was before i even knew what psy/goa was). It's a great track, but it's not as good as it used to be, i think it's partially because ive heard it hundreds of times, and partially because now ive heard so much other great psy. On a side note I absolutely love Alien Project's song named LSD, and there are very few AP songs i like (Coconut Groove is the only other one i really dig).
  4. Simon Posford/Shpongle/Hallucinogen for sure. I feel very unoriginal saying this, but he is simply the best. C'mon Simon, give us one more Hallucinogen album Choosing a #2 would be impossible though, there's just too much great psychelia out there.
  5. I just got this one, and i'm totally blown away! I kept thinking "well, the next track HAS to be a filler" but that moment never came. Just one incredible track after another It's definately a 10/10, I have to absorb it a little more first, but this is probably one of the best albums in the last 3 or 4 years, if not THE best. Simply amazing! If you're only going to buy one cd this year, this is definately the one to get Suntrip records now has 2 of the best releases in the last 4-5 years, ill for sure be checking out anything they release
  6. OMG, i just got this album and it's great, other than 2-4 (esp 3+4). I kind of expected this to be good because of who's on it, with the exception of skazi of course. It's definately on the darker side, and there's some great twisted psychedelia on it. The cover suits the comp well. Overall, the songs have a lot of nice twists that'll make you keep wondering what's next. This is one of the best of 2005, if not THE best (although there haven't been too many good releases this year :/). Check it out!
  7. I like really chilled stuff the best for driving. Most of my driving is to/from work in the city so i think harder stuff would just aggitate me in crappy traffic. I love the killarggh stuff when it's open highway/country driving though I fill cds full of mp3s, and just hit the shuffle button.
  8. I also think having the default set to "by date" would be a lot more useful than sorting by name. I usually look at the reviews to find out which new stuff is good, not to search for a specific album/artist (although i do that occasionally). That's the only thing wrong with the new system though. I actually prefer how they are grouped by year now. That way there aren't 1000+ reviews from the last 10 years all in one forum
  9. I've listened to it 5 times so far. I think it's a great album, and it all flows together really smoothly. There are a couple parts on it that were just 'ok', like 2-3mins total. This isn't better than their first album, and i don't think it's quite as good as their second album either. I'm guessing it will grow on me the more i listen to it. As of right now I give it a 9/10, P.S. I've listened to this album sober, high, and tripping
  10. Wow, that song does seem to be very Juno-esque. It sounds very promising. I'm not a big fan of wizzy noise, but ive only heard a few songs (that i didn't particularly care for). If i'm going to pick up an album by them, which one would you recommend?
  11. I thought it was a great album, although it is all kinda similar. It's better to listen to random songs of it, not the whole album through. I think it's in the top 10 of 2005 for sure though
  12. Another guitar one is SUN Project. I'm not a big fan of guitars+psy (and i play guitar), but i think SUN Project uses them quite well. Did Juno Reactor use a real orchestra for Labyrinth? It sounds like it, but i could be mistaken. Either way it SOUNDS like real instruments. Sorry for bringing this back on-topic
  13. The twisted website says the release date is the 28th, and that you'll be able to buy it from them 2-3 weeks earlier. It's 2 weeks and 2 days earlier right now
  14. I'll say forest, for some reason it seems like the most "natural" setting. There's just something special about dancing in the middle of a forest. Plus, there's natural shade which is a plus. I've never heard of the castle thing, but i think that would be a pretty cool place too. I imagine it would be hard to "rent" out a castle though. A mountain location would be awesome too. Those pics of the alps are great, that must have been incredible. Are there any castles located up in the mountains?
  15. I was debating between Juno, Shulman, and Talpa, but ended up voting for Shulman. There were some other great albums too (and i haven't heard some of these), but for me those 3 were the best of the year.
  16. I actually just discovered Fractal Glider (only been into psy for a couple years) and i totally agree. It's some amazing stuff. Pretty much every single one of his songs is 8/10 or higher IMO. Great stuff, and consistently great too
  17. psy projects/artists have such cool names. I can't think of any other genre that comes close to having such crazy names
  18. I love it because with most music you just listen to it, but with psy/goa you EXPERIENCE it. It takes you on a journey to new magical places, even with no drugs. But once you combine it with shrooms/acid/dxm (my favs), it's a profound and mind blowing experience. I agree with seraph that until you've experienced a psychedlic drug, it's impossible to fully appreciate psychadelic music (whether it's pink floyd or shpongle). Some psy is almost unrecognizable when your under the influence, because of the way it totally messes with your brain. Also, it's very layered/complex and it's hard to get sick of it, unlike with other music. In fact, it often takes many listens to fully appreciate a particular song.
  19. I totally agree about them being ahead of their time. Their music is so amazing, and somehow they consistently produce one great tune after another. Even their Matrix music was top notch stuff IMO. And suprisingly even my mom (who's 47yo) thinks their music is great. Has anyone else seen the video for "God is God"? It's one of the trippiest videos i've ever seen. Those crazy robotic-like movements are crazy
  20. Wow I'm confused now. It seems about half of you think it's more pop/trancy stuff now, and about half think they still have great psychadelic madness. Do they play more psy type stuff some shows than others? If so, they'd probably play their crappy music in the states, being that people in states seem to like things as commercial/poppy as possible. :/ It would suck driving 10 hours to see a show that MIGHT be good I live in Minnesota, so there is really no psy scene at all. Even the regular trance scene here is very small, so psy is nonexistant
  21. Has anyone seen IM live lately? Are they still good live? Their last cd had some fluff on it, and i was wondering if they still kick ass live, or do they play trance kinda stuff? They are coming to America soon (although it's a 10 hour drive :/) and i don't want to miss this rare oppourtunity. There is no psy/goa scene whatsoever in the States
  22. Does anyone know of any guides for tweaking synths, explaining what exactly each thing does? I don't need it to be specific to any certain synth, just a general guide. Thanks
  23. Here's a tip that helped me a lot melody wise. I made a image in paint that has some melodies, kinda like this: http://cruelty.dyndns.org/scales.jpg I then paste that image as my "background" in fruity loops. It obviously helps if you learn some music theory too, that way you can apply different modes to those scales. AND, remember you don't have to follow scales, it'll usually sound bland if you follow them exactly (esp minor/major) I agree totally. Try making some cheesy trance music or something. Making something simple like that helps you get familiar with the program/sounds without having to make it really complex (psy).

  25. Haha, the music makes you "uplifted" and "euphoric", but you still say it gives you no feelings? Isn't HAPPINESS a feeling? Anyway, not everyone gets the same effect from the same music. That's why people have different tastes in music, There are feelings besides sadness and anger, at least for me. You must live a terrible life if those are your only feelings. P.S. I wasn't even going to respond to this thread because it's so ridiculous, but i'm bored.
