  1. I think if you look at any genre of music (esp smaller ones) there is a ton of mediocre "cookie-cutter" stuff that sounds like it's just a generic rip-off, and only a few truly great artists/songs. In fact in the U.S. pretty much ALL of our popular music sounds very generic/boring. There will always be a few artists innovating, but you can only innovate to a certain point before it becomes a completely new kind of music. There are tons of genres where there is little/no innovation anymore. Even with this lack of innovation, there are still some good tracks being released. They may not have a NEW sound, but i still enjoy them anyway. Just my 2 cents
  2. This is very true. So many styles/genres are similar. Often times everyone has a slightly different idea of a certain genre, which is why i tend to completely ignore genres. People get way too specific with genres of music. I just listen to music and hope i like it. I really don't pay attention to what the exact genre is. There are so many artists out there that are completely unique, and trying to group them into a category just doesn't work.
  3. This is probably the most anticipated release in all of psy/goa history, and for good reason. Everything Sphongle has released is amazing, and i really hope this album delivers. It's torture waiting for it to come out though :/ The artwork is okay, but they could have a blank cover for all i care, i just want to hear the MUSIC
  4. DC++ just because you can connect to psy-specific servers and find tons of rare stuff. The other p2p program i use is emule, which has a nice selection, and you can even find some videos of performances
  5. Welcome. I'm new myself, and don't post much.
  6. Well, I started getting kinda into trance and EDM in general about 6 years ago and have just been slowly checking out other genres to see what I like. About 2 years ago i started accumulating some psy-trance not even knowing it was psy, just thought it was "some wierd trance", but i liked it way more than any other EDM (and more than most music in general). Probably a little over a year ago i was looking up artists online and noticed that Astral Projection, Hallucinogen, and Infected Mushroom were all psy-trance. Up finding that out I just checked out as much difference psy/goa as i could. I eventually found this site less than a year ago and started learning a lot more about the whole psy/goa world, and have discovered some amazing artists from the people on these forums (thanks!). The thing i've noticed with psy/goa is that certain songs will sound good on first listen, but will be too boring after hearing it a few times. Then other songs that didn't seem that great the first time sound awesome after hearing them a few times. I think it takes some time to realize the true depth of the tracks sometimes.
  7. It's definately not dead. It's just that there are tons and tons of artists nowadays, and most of them suck. That's how it is for pretty much any genre though, and i think there is a much higher percentage of good psy-trance.
  8. If you have a poll like this on the psynews board obviously psynews is going to win
  9. The people in the "worst agers of 04" thread got me thinking. I just started discoveriing psy/goa music in the last few years and 99% of the stuff i've heard is 1999 or later. A lot of people seem to praise the "old school" psy/goa stuff, so i am interested in hearing some of this. So, can anyone recommend me some good pre99 albums or tracks to check out? I've never heard anything older than 98, and hardly any of that. I'm probably missing out on some great music. thx P.S. I realize there are a lot of "best album/track" threads, but i haven't seen one with older stuff in them.
  10. I'm with you on that. Every genre has at least a couple good tracks, except maybe pop-punk and boy bands.
  11. You learn something new every day I had no idea that it was possible to sing multiple notes (chords) like that. I thought this was some sort of instrument, not people. I never knew a person could get that sound out of them. Amazing stuff. Thanks for the help.
  12. Okay, i've heard this sound on many psy tunes, and in some movies i think. It's on sphongle's DMT (i'm sure you all know that song). It's really trippy whatever it is. So anyone know what instrument this is? sample1 sample2
  13. When i was first starting out in producing i tried to kinda mimic some trance music, just because that's the easiest thing to do. It helps you learn how to use the tools before you try to make something good. When i make a song now though, i don't even have a specific genre in mind. I just kinda go with the flow, and try to make something that sounds good
  14. I don't usually like vocals in psy (especially those stupid robot voices), but vocals can make a track great if they're done right.
  15. I like some kai tracid music, but the best acid trance music i've heard is ASYS. Check out "Dj's Nightmare (DJ Phrophet remix), 2001", and "From the Past To the Phuture, 2003".
  16. I'm pretty dissapointed with this album too. I only like one song, "The 1st". It's just not good music for the most part.
  17. Astral projection. They have a few killer tunes, but most of their music just doesn't do it for me. They seem to have the exact same kick on every damn song too.
  18. This was a really hard choice, but i went with Infected Mushroom. They just have many many songs i like, more than any other group probably.
