  1. I'm not sure but I think somehow they depend on a part of the people actually buying it after hearing the full stuff. I guess it works because I see this type of thing more often these days.
  2. Title: Progressive Classics Vol.1 Label: Iono Music Date: 24-08-2012 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 01. Kaempfer & Dietze - Shear Force (Jerome Isma-ae & Daniel Portman Remix) 02. Minoru - Upload 03. Frogacult - All Seasons (Freq's third Remix) 04. Nyquist - Ghostrider 05. Funky Dragon - Yellow Summer 06. Timedrained - Sacha 07. Midimal - Over & Out (Klopfgeister Remix) 08. Time in Motion - Shadowgaze 09. Sinister Silence vs. Sartil - Heaven and Hell 10. Andromeda - Sensations (Aquafeel Remix) 11. Suntree - Comparable Worlds 12. ARW - Searching For New Levels 13. MUTe - Space n Time (Ritmo Remix) 14. Egorythmia - Distant Point 15. Ritmo - Practical 16. Flegma & Nerso - Altitude (with E-Clip) 17. Ovnimoon - Galactic Mantra (With Via axis and ItomLab) 18. Protonica - Airflow (Live Edit) 19. Ritmo - Rapture (Gaudium Remix) 20. Motion Drive - Heart Of The Sun I was waiting for this release a little while now. When they announced it I had a good look at the tracklist and immediately decided I had to get my hands on it. A lot of great Iono classics are on here, including some of my all time favorites. All bundled in to one album, how great! Now as there are 20 tracks on this album, I will comment on those that deserve the attention. It's just gonna take to long otherwise. It starts of light, with a remix for Kaempfer & Dietze's (aka Protonica) Shear Force. It's a combination of progressive trance and a touch of house music. If you ask me this one goes down really well, great way to get this VA going from the start. I had a fun time listening to All Seasons (Freq Third Remix), but I couldn't call this a special track that has a lot to offer, it's to chaotic for me. A lot going on, but I don't feel like this one is really going somewhere. Over & Out is a great track. Klopfgeister is all about going straight forward, no weird interruptions or unnecessary brakes. Very catchy since the melody stays in my head. This Midimal track is remixed by Flegma & Nerso and Seven11 as well and I can't say any of the remixes disappointed me. Shadowgaze is another lovely one. Great follow up from the last track, it matches really well. Time In Motion really did a great job, some fine relaxing progressive trance this is. Comparable World is one of the many songs that did it for me. Suntree delivered some solid stuff. It's a track to stomp the ground with, still it's kind of dreamy and I think the combination is what makes this a good track. Distant Point by Egorythmia is a much darker track than the others and it's one of the better ones from this release. I can say the same for Practical. It sounds smooth to my ears and so do a lot of other Ritmo tracks actually. So far some wonderful tracks but in my opinion Jensson kept the best for last. Altitude, by Flegma, Nerso and E-Clip was already one of my favorite tracks. It was released on there album Opposite, together with a bunch of other beauties. But it fits in just as well on this release. It's heavy, hypnotic with a lot of appropriate echoing and it gives you the feeling like there is plenty of room for everything in this track. I swear, every time I hear this song I can't stop moving. Perfect, what else can I say. Airflow is another one that clearly stands out. Again moving as forward as you can while remaining tight and sharp. I love it when you get the feeling there is a destination this track is heading to. What more do you want from Protonica, one of there best tracks if you ask me. Heart Of The Sun is in one word breathtaking. I know I have mentioned to have a lot of favorites in some reviews, but this is for sure in my top 3 of all time favorite tracks. Possibly even the best. It's hard since I have a shit load of music, but I have listened to this one so often and every time it stays special. It gives me a sunny morning time vibe and it's like I'm actually heading to the heart of the sun. Motion Drive keeps things interesting from the beginning, slowly building it up giving me a warm melting feeling. Then just as you think things couldn't get better, after about 4 minutes he brings things down a little and continues to go all the way after that. Words can't describe the beauty of this track. Couldn't think of a better way to end this compilation. My advice? If you are in to progressive and you enjoy the more modern Iono sounds, I would get this VA. Just for the best tracks I described it's worth buying in my opinion, let alone some of the other ones. I experienced a lot of variation between lighter, heavier and darker progressive, so there's always something for everyone! Iono Shop: http://www.ionomusic...&shop=343&D=409
  3. Haldolium is a good artist. Only this track has a little less variation in my opinion. Around the end it gets a bit better but it took a while to get interesting. 6/10. Here's a classic from Vibrasphere:
  4. Artist: Solar Spectrum & Omsphere Title: The Earthlings Label: Free-Spirit Records Date: 03-05-2011 Style: Progressive Psytrance Tracklist: 1. Omsphere - Earthling (Solar Spectrum Remix) 2. Solar Spectrum - Underground Bouncers (Omsphere Remix) 3. Solar Spectrum & Omsphere - Solar Journey As some of you may know, Free Spirit Records has a lot of good stuff lately but not all of it is known to the audience. I discovered this release a while ago and it has entertained me ever since. It's a combination of remixes and tracks by Omsphere and Solar Spectrum. You may know Solar Spectrum from projects such as Rastaliens and Braincell. Omsphere, label manager of this record label is also known as Journey and Crocodile Rangers. At least now you have a bit of an impression with who we are dealing with. What makes this release different than others, is that there is a lot of focus on the psychedelic aspect of trance. While keeping the focus they also made sure of a groovy, bouncy and playful vibe. There's a lot going on, all the time. A perfect example is the very first track Earthling. It definitely didn't bore me, but I can't say it's the best of what this release has to offer. Underground Bouncers is a lovely track, a little more straight forward if you will. The bass line is strong, the effects are perfectly balanced and you can feel the track going somewhere. Everything is well thought about and the entire track gives a bit of a liquid feeling. After about 6 minutes or so you understand where this song was going in the first place. I know the last part of songs are usually the best, but this time it really did the job. Solar Journey is the last track and my favorite at the same time. I don't know, it's just a little more original. I'm not trying to say the first 2 tracks weren't original because I wouldn't be giving them enough credit. But this one really surprised me from the beginning. They stepped out of the regular progressive format and created something bouncy, catchy but at the same time maintaining psychedelic. Once again, the best is saved for last and I'm very happy with what this EP has brought. Great job, definitely worth the money in my opinion. 5. Title: Progressive Love Label: Synergetic Records Date: 11-05-2012 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 01. Earsugar & Double Click - Beat It 02. Behind Blue Eyes - Rumble In The Jungle (Zen mechanics Remix) 03. Protonica - Floating Point (Morning Mix) 04. Zyce - Strange Fragments 05. Midimal - Ages Of History (Human Element Remix) 06. Aquafeel - Unity Consciousness 07. Earsugar - Bonfire 08. Human Element - Being In 09. Ma'Co - Phantasy 10. Midimal - Fast & Delicious To start of, I don't think there is a single thing wrong with the title of this VA. There seems to be a lot of promising names listed on the tracklist as well, with a few tracks that I heard of already. I recognized some of them from one of the Extrasensory Perception series actually. But that's ok, I don't mind listening to them again. Beat It is not a bad track but I was hoping for something a little more special. It's not something I would remember afterwards or would like to play another 3 times. The Zen Mechanics remix for Rumble In The Jungle is one that I enjoyed. Not your typical stuff and I'm glad this turned out a little different than most tracks. I would like to say this is a bit more on the psychedelic side of things. Definitely a nice one, but I know there are a lot of better Zen Mechanics tracks/remixes out there. Protonica's Floating Point is one of my favorites tracks ever, I mean what more do you want. I have a lot of favorites actually, but this is one to close your eyes with and slowly reach a floating point. It's just perfect, almost like it gives you wings. And when you get the feeling that there isn't a thing you would change, you know it's good stuff. Protonica shows us once again that they are the masters of progressive trance. Speaking of masters, Zyce is in this VA as well. Strange Fragments is a great track, another melodic floater. I listened to this guys music so much that I probably could recognize most of it blindfolded, no joke. I would like to say all but he has that many tracks, nobody could keep up with that. Don't get me started about the other projects he is doing, this review would take hours. Ages Of History is a bit more on the minimal side, slick and steady would be the best way to describe it. Human Element did a good job on this remix, still keeping the melodic vibes from Midimal alive. Unity Consciousness is heavier but still super melodic from time to time. Very nice! Next is Earsugar with Bonfire. I like this one a lot more than there Beat It track. This one reminds me of some Human Element tracks, although they are usually a lot lighter than this but just as slick and tight. Being In is another nice one, but I have to say it took a while for me before this track fully came alive. It's just a little more empty than most of his songs but I will forgive him for that. Ma'co's Phantasy is nice and bouncy but somehow it lacked of groove and a good drive for me. I enjoyed his Intergalactic Paradise track a lot more to be honest. This one is ok, nothing special. Now they saved the best for last, Fast & Delicious is one of my favorite tracks of Midimal. Probobly my favorite actually now that I think of it. It has like a 2 min intro, but that's with all of his tracks. I don't find it annoying at all as u can clearly see he slowly grows in to the song, theres a story behind it. Midimal's name says it all (intentionally or not). It's kind of minimal progressive trance, but yet still somewhere in the middle. Such a unique style, if you take the time to listen to it I know you will love it. I remember the first time I heard this track I got goosebumps. Anyway 10 tracks later, I can't say my love for progressive has gotten any less after this release. Solid stuff, with just a few outstanding tracks. But sometimes that's all it takes. 6. I know exactly what you mean, I have noticed these differences a lot. Unfortunately I have to go to the doctor about once in 2 years and get it cleaned out. Also when I was younger I used to have a lot of problems with my ears. Every time I used to go under water in the swimming pool it would hurt like crazy the next days. So I decided not to do that anymore since it's good for nothing.. So yeah, it's a really weird feeling when everything is loud again. Typing, music and also hearing others peoples voices and my own voice was way different. Also the general volume level of the tv could be pushed down a lot!
  7. I think Greece, Switzerland and Serbia should be in the poll as well, but the most notable countries are in it. For me, it is: 1. Israel (Ace Ventura, Ritmo, Lish, Osher, Vertical Mode, Mindwave) 2. Serbia (E-Clip, Zyce, Lyctum, Sideform, Flegma & Nerso, Relativ) 3. Switzerland (Motion Drive, Liquid Soul, Midimal, Human Element) Also Germany has some good artist as well: (Protonica, Day Din, Symphonix, NOK). You are right for not mentioning my country, as we don't have a lot of producers. But some good ones are Zen Mechanics, Liftshift. Also England, Belgium and Sotuh Africa are big in full on music.
  8. I'm not a big fan of Rotterdam (for football reasons ) but they have good architecture indeed. WWII really effected that city at the time. My city is the opposite, old fashion style and old houses and buildings still remaining, with canals in the middle in the center. Nice you visited this county.
  9. Artist: Unseen Dimensions Title: Real High EP Label: Spin Twist Records Date: 29-06-2012 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Beautiful Day 2. Gold Star (Natural Vibes Remix) 3. Real High Unseen Dimensions is all about the groove, he made this very clear with his Airglow EP, released in 2011. In my opinion this was one of the best progressive EP's I heard in my life and it takes a lot to over class it. This style is truly original and I can't remember hearing anything similar to it. I like it when someone goes out of there way to create something new, it really makes it worth listening to. So far Airglow, now it's time to get Real High. I mean this in in every sense of the word. Beautiful Day is a great track, going a bit more towards the Spin Twist offbeat style but staying loyal to the original twisted funky sounds that I'm used to hearing. It's filled with all kinds of layers making it a very clever track. There's so much going on, that I wasn't bored once. Enjoyed it a lot! Now I think Gold Star is a hard one to remix. One again the original track was filled with all kinds of effects, making it very atmospheric and complicated in a good way. Actually I just played it before the Natural Vibe remix and it always stays a real journey. The remix is much more powerful and aggressive if you will. The bass line is heavy and you can still sense the original track in it. I can imagine a dance floor will go crazy over this one. Near the end I was thinking about how much I enjoyed it so far. Then it surprised me with some dubstep like ending, this disappointed me. Things would of been so much cooler if that was left out. Luckily it was near the end and not right in the middle. But still.. The last track was not my favorite, I can say it was a fun little floater. Real High just had a little less to offer than all the other tracks I know from Unseen Dimensions. I don't know, other tracks were filled all the way so this gives me a slightly empty feeling. Never the less, I get the impression this guy knows what he's doing. This release is a good piece of work, but I think it will be hard for anyone to create something as good as his first EP. Good job! 10. Artist: Protonica Title: Form Follows Function Label: Iono Music Date: 17-08-2012 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Login 2. Greece 3. Subground 4. Serotonin Overdose (Protonica Remix) 5. Motion Control 6. Floating Point (Liquid Soul Remix) 7. Modification 8. Codes 9. Emerge I expected this release to be a real good one. For the simple reason that Protonica has really impressed me with there previous work and the fact that they haven't released anything in a long time. So my hopes were high and somehow my ears were dying to hear this. After the short Login intro track this album starts of with Greece. It's an extremely solid track, going straight forward like progressive should. All the effects during the song seem in place and as I'm listening I notice what made me like there style in the first place. It's not over the top, no cheap vibes or overdone voice-samples. Just straight up trance, in it's purest form. Subground really reminds me of there older work, taking you higher and higher using a basic yet original method. One of my favorite tracks from this album, bringing things back to the source. Serotonin Overdose is another killer and I have to say they did a great job on this remix. The original done by Rocky & Ace Ventura was ok but I prefer this one. It's just a little more solid so to say. Motion Control is a good follow up. At first it didn't really do it for me, it couldn't hold my attention all the way. But after a few more listens I could dig it somehow. Now the original Floating Point was probably my favorite track from Protonica all time. So when I read Liquid Soul was going to remix this one, I was really wondering what he would bring. The original track matched the title for me, it got me to a floating point many times. It's hard to describe the remix from the old one, but let's say it's put in to a slightly newer and modern jacket. For me both work just fine, but I must say the original stays very special to me. Modification is another favorite, if not my favorite. Slowly taking me further and further in a sort of minimal style. Actually all the tracks are made in a minimal way more or less. This track displays the power and originality of the entire album in my opinion, that sometimes less is more. Codes kind of brings out the oldskool progressive style that lies within there music. It was fun listening to but after a lot of Protonica tracks I find that it isn't there best work. Emerge is another track that exists out of simple trance-waves, keeping things basic. Great way to bring this album to an end. After listening to the whole album I realize how you can create something extremely special in a simple way, that really brings out the best in trance. I recommend listening to each track from the beginning. Protonica's tracks intend to evolve in a slow progressing way and seem to just go with the flow. This way you really get to feel and experience the build ups. Also I seem to find it ok that a song takes so long to build up because it is clear that there is a story to tell in each track. So overall this is a great album in my opinion. When it comes to melodic progressive trance, it's probably one of the best releases of the year. If you want to take a listen before buying it, I suggest checking out there Soundcloud. 11. Totally agree with you. These are different times now. If a new album will come however, I expect a lot of oldskool Goa listeners to get it. For me, every once in a while I play LSD or Solstice. But I don't think I will get this new album (unless it's super good and newer sounds), my musical taste has changed since the first time that I discovered Goa.

    Nicknames

Well, first my username was 'goodthings'. At the time I didn't know what to make it. So I thought: I might as well make it something good. Then I wanted to change it, so I changed it to my soundcloud account that was called 'prog4all'. I didn't know what to call my soundcloud account either actually and because I was listening to a lot of prog, I figured prog4all would be a good name.
  13. I must say I haven't listened to the whole album track by track. I usually play other stuff in between. I know what you mean, there are for sure better albums. But some tracks really did the job for me. Listening to this killer track:
  14. You have excellent taste! Great description, I enjoyed both of these albums a lot. And indeed, I have friends who are not much in to progressive that really liked the Lyctum album. He has a very powerful style.
  15. When it comes to reading, personally I much rather have longer reviews. Unless it's a 2 track EP or so. Especially when I have the album myself I like reading how others experienced the entire album. With short reviews in this section you risk that people go overboard and make them way to short. In these cases you might as well make a topic title of the album and the sentence: "So, what do you guys think?" This way you risk having a lot of topics about albums with almost no proper additional information in it. I'm not saying that this will happen all the time, but posting a short review is actually an opportunity for the next one to make it even shorter. Sometimes I'm not in the mood to read longer reviews. But if it's about an artist I like or an album I was thinking of getting, your damn sure I will read it. That's just me though. So I'm not against short reviews, as long as people give enough information and not just make it 1 sentence. I am for keeping all of them in the review section though. I think the beautiful thing of psynews, is the fact that almost every review topic has some effort in to it and provides some information. And the more thread starters write, the more there is to agree and disagree about. Also I wouldn't mind seeing some more negative reviews either. The reason I don't have a lot of negative reviews, is because I will only get an album if I actually find it worth the money. So I think we should find some way to balance things. It doesn't have to be a very long review, but also 3 sentences and a picture is a bit to short in my opinion. I wonder what the members think who have written a lot of reviews, like 2TMU. After all, they have put the most work in to the review section. So I can imagine them not always wanting super short reviews, as they put a lot of long work in to reviews there self. On the other hand, I can imagine them embracing more reviews on this site to get this site even more active with more viewers. It's an interesting discussion.
  16. Very nice, I love this album from Mindwave! Now listening to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3NhbeqMRFM
  17. Artist: Vertical Mode Title: Lazer Shot EP Label: HOMmega Productions Date: 29-02-2012 Style: Progressive Psytrance Tracklist: 1. Lazer Shot 2. Lucky Number 3. Mr. Fix Vertical Mode is an experienced duo from Israel. Both producers are known for there solo projects, Xerox and Volcano. Now they are creating something totally different, it lies somewhere in between progressive and full-on. When listening to a bunch of psytrance, every now and then it happens that you stumble upon albums that sound extremely unique and you wonder why you didn't discover it before. This is one of them albums and I have to say this goes for more of Vertical Mode's releases. Lazer Shot is a great track, this is almost as powerful as it gets for progressive. Still it's very psychedelic and it doesn't lack of groove at all. Everything is perfectly balanced and at the end of the song everything comes together. They did a wonderful job! Next is Lucky Number: "Ladies and gentleman, we interrupt this program to bring you important news!". Well you can definitely say that again, this track is what it's all about. And I'm glad I interrupted whatever I was doing to listen to this bouncer. It's my favorite track of this EP. I must admit it was very hard to pick a favorite since the first track was amazing as well, but this offers just a slightly bit more. So yeah, the lucky number was 2 in this case. Last on the list is Mr. Fix. which is not bad at all. It takes about 5 minutes before this one explodes. But when it does you realize that in some cases you just need a good few minutes before you can go all the way. It's an ok track but I have the feeling the other ones had just a bit more of a bouncing groove to it. That's ok though, you don't hear me complaining about this release. I had a great time listening to this EP, it's definitely something new and refreshing. Now this is what you call groundbreaking in it's genre. 18. Haha this is true, but Etic I didn't try yet! I like this style, the remix for Motion Drive - Dropout I like. Good one.
  19. I stumbled upon this thread from like 4 years ago but it was great fun reading the descriptions. Seriously, I recognize a lot of these categories from parties and I'm gonna keep a closer look from now on. Especially these ones I have came across.
  20. Cheers guys for the posts. ManMachine I heard of, indeed a little more towards full on but good! Also I'm familiar whit Sideform and Lyctum. The Tesseract Studio label gave me a lot of joy! Really great stuff, Lyctum has such an original approach. And AKD is nice also, a lot calmer and very relaxing. I notice in VA's that contains a AKD track, they always start of at the beginning of the compilation. It's a great way to start of an album! Btw, I editted the main post with a lot of different artist and labels.
  21. I'm digging it to, very relaxing track. Stumbled upon this beauty: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=cagG69Co4eQ
