  1. Me either... I know I am missing out on some great music, but I can't bring myself to do it... What about something like kunaki.com ? Since it's "on demand" I think there is very little risk, and I think there would be enough interest here to cover your cost...
  2. It's also pretty much full-on/Goa on cd 1 and progressive/non-"Goa" on cd 2, so the two cds are quite different in style. If you don't like progressive, you probably won't like cd 2; if you don't like full-on you probably won't like cd 1... but seems to be more about your taste than quality of tracks... There are many comps that have dance music on cd 1 and downtempo on cd 2. If you don't like downtempo, it doesn't mean it sucks, it just means it is a different style...
  3. Make sure you check out Solar Spectrum, Ralph's progressive psy project! I love this sound!
  4. It looks like those are the non-3d cover, so if you are looking for the more collectible item, read the description carefully! I'm still waiting for the Younger Brother Vaccine remixes to be released on cd. Didn't they promise that a loooong time ago? Yes, I know it is Twisted, so the wait is expected, but I hope this is still happening. Does anyone know?
  5. I've been living in Shenzhen, China the last couple years. There actually is a growing scene here (I have been very pleasantly surprised, as it was not something I expected at all!). After doing many events at clubs/bars, for the past year we've done several successful outdoor underground parties here in the city in some unique locations, about once a month, as well as some beach parties! Atoned Splendor played here recently, as well as Acid Echoes. Atoned Splendor also organized a festival in the scenic Yunnan Province earlier this month. It's a young but very enthusiastic scene here, with a mixture of locals and expats. Sorry; did not mean to take away from the review, but expect a lot more good things out of China in the near future
  6. I agree with Adam, this should be in the events forum, not the artists and labels releases one... Will be more beneficial to the original poster too, as that's where people will look...
  7. Drezz, I just sent you an e-mail requesting cds, so please save them for me.
  8. Which is a true statement... He has been around a long time... I played two of the tracks in a dj set on Saturday (I was the second dj, started out proggy and ended more full-on-ish), and both worked very well on the dancefloor (played #5 earlier in my set with some proggier stuff and closed my set with track 6). I think many people reviewing a lot of music on here (yes, I know not everyone, but I would be very curious in knowing) only listen to music at home and don't hear much psytrance on a dancefloor on a proper system. And there is some music I love hearing/dancing to but don't really enjoy on a lower volume at my house. And some music that sounds a little cheesy or silly in your living room can be absolutely perfect on a dancefloor if the energy is in that particular state... These are just general comments, not necessarily related to Tristan's album, but I know I do appreciate his music more on the dancefloor for sure...
  9. Actually, from my understanding, much of it is based on Rick Wright compositions that were recorded around the time of Division Bell; in many ways it is a tribute to him, so his music is very involved even though he obviously is not involved in the final product... But yes, no Roger Waters... I read somewhere it is inspired by music made during the Division Bell era, but 60% is brand new, or something like that... I also heard that David Gilmour has said this will be the final Pink Floyd album and there will be no tour, so perhaps this is it for Pink Floyd... (still hoping for a chance to see them live, though, but I know I probably missed my chance...)
  10. (Not sure if this is the right forum for this topic, but didn't know where else to put it...) New Pink Floyd album, The Endless River, is out this week! Mostly instrumental... www.pinkfloyd.com
  11. YES!!!!! This is the best news I have heard in a long time! I have been waiting for this release for so many years... Have been really impressed with their recent compilation tracks, and have heard great things about the newer live performances. It's about @%* time this was released!!!! Happy new year for sure
  12. This topic reminds me of a sample I have heard in a Protoculture track "Out of Reality," and I think another track too, and I've wondered where it came from. It's something like, "Yes, all right, machines are tools. They're made to be used. It's their nature...to be slaves.... All reality is virtual. How do they know the real world is not just another simulation? ... Well I know I'm not dreaming now because I know what it's like being in a dream. So dreaming lets you know that reality exists." I've always liked this sample, but never knew where it came from, but it seems like something I would enjoy watching. Can anyone help me out?
  13. The first movie I remember this happening to was "Planet of the Apes" (the original). I think it is the scene where they are doing some kind of press conference, and there is the line, "What planet did you say you came from?" that sounded familiar. And then a little while later... "What is this? It's a toy. It floats... on the air!" I also remember watching David Lynch's "Dune" and the movie starts with the whole "The spice extends life..." sample and then near the end of the movie, "Some thoughts... have a certain sound..." Probably both around 1998. I also had a weird Space Tribe moment. This would have been around 2010 and I was living in Delhi at the time. I happened to catch "Escape from L.A." on cable, and Snake says, "The future's right now..." and I immediately got the Space Tribe track stuck in my head, and was thinking I hadn't listened to him in a while...I wonder what he's up to, and did a random google search for Space Tribe and found out he was playing in Delhi the next weekend! So that was pretty cool... Got to hang out with him for a bit after the show and told him that story.
  14. This is actually a Ministry song. Ministry >>>>> White Zombie!!!
  15. I've been living in Shenzhen, China the last year and a half. We started doing psytrance events here a little over a year ago, and have done them at least once a month with good response. Mostly expats from around the world who happen to be living here, but maybe a third of the crowd is Chinese. The last two events have been all-night beach parties! There's actually now two groups doing psy events: psytribe.cn and psy-nergy.com
  16. Juno Reactor is usually a full band with live tribal drumming, guitar, and other instruments in addition to keyboards. Plus a lot of acrobatics and antics from Amampondo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3cxox41I4w Shpongle occasionally does the live band, which is something like 10 musicians as well as other acrobatic-type performances and dancing. Medicine Drum also used live drums, violin, and keyboards. Son Kite uses (used? - where have they been, and no Minilogue doesn't count! ) a violin to play many of the sounds/effects. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aw1kR7lUsvk

Electric Mayhem - Sidetrakkt - China/US Get ready for the return of one of Pittsburgh's most influential party and music presenters, Electric Mayhem!! The top mind behind Sidetrakkt, the group that brought Pittsburgh some of greatest gatherings of the early 2000's, Electric Mayhem introduced psytrance parties to Pittsburgh through his dj sets and as an organizer of 28 events over a five-year period. Known for his diverse selection of music, ranging from atmospheric downtempo to funky tribal progressive to intense full-on psychedelia to uplifting melodic psytrance, and everything in between, his sets are carefully crafted to reflect and enhance both the time of night and the energy on the dancefloor. Dan has played at many east coast festivals and events, including the World Electronic Music Festival in Toronto, Omni Dance Festival in New York, Maataa Mandaara in West Virginia, the Gaian Mind monthly in Philadelphia, and countless other events. After leaving Pittsburgh, Dan moved to Portland, Oregon for five years, where he organized some Sidetrakkt events and DJed at several events and festivals in Oregon and Washington. He then moved to Delhi, India for three years and became part of the Ultra Violet Visions (UVV) collective as a DJ and organizer, and played at events and festivals in India. He is currently residing in Shenzhen, China where he has been active in helping introduce psytrance to Shenzhen through underground events and outdoor all-night beach parties as part of Psytribe China. He is excited to return for his first (public) Pittsburgh appearance in ten years, where he will be playing a set of "new school" Goa trance. FEATURING A TAG SET OF DJ MEGHAN AND SSK, TWO OF YOUR FAVORITE PSYLICIOUS DJS! DJ Meghan - 3rd Eye Squeegee/Psylicious - Akron, Ohio From a very young age, Meghan has had musical passion in her blood, learning to play a variety of instruments such as piano, woodwinds and percussion. She has been DJing since the Autumn of 1999, and plays multiple genres such as Psytrance, Chill-out, Techno (minimal to hard) and Tech House on multiple formats. Her diverse style, coupled with her solid mixing ability, combined with both indoor and outdoor event experience, ensures that she is certainly a DJ who is rising steadily to the forefront of the USA Psytrance scene. She is heavily involved with the 3rd Eye Squeegee crew in the USA, and is also involved with providing mixes for various channels on di.fm that are aired regularly. Through di.fm, she has gained a worldwide fan base, and has performed in Canada, as well as countless events across the USA. She joined Psylicious in 2007 as a DJ on their roster, and is also involved with Psylicious bookings in the USA as an agent. Her flexible ability, and energy behind the decks, is sure to strike a chord with all dance floors and listeners. SSK - Psylicious - Pittsburgh, PA 'SSK' real name, Jacquelyn R. Horn stumbled into her first warehouse party during The Summer of '94. She was initialy introduced to House Music, Epic Trance, & Techno. It wasn't until her travels across America in '96 that she discovered Goa Trance\Psy Trance in San Fransisco, California. SSK has evolved to mix Scando, Psy-Tech, Minimal Psy, and Progressive Psy. After a hermit's retreat, she went digital and re-emerged as a Full-On Psy & Progressive Psy DJ in mid 2009. At the end of '09 she was offered a spot on 'Psylicious Radio', for which she was asked to be a resident, and then in January 2010 she became Psylicious's USA Rep. Most recently SSK has moved from Texas to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she is again re-inventing herself as a DJ. Needless to say she is picking up any and every piece of worthy music she comes across. She has added to her arsenal: Psybreaks, Techfunk, Freerange, & Psydub. She has added to her affiliations: 'Fresh Decade', a small production company/DJ collective located in Pittsburgh, USA (owned & operated by Bill McTall, who is also the organizer of Trancegiving 2010/2011) The sound of SSK is an audio fusion of full on killer energy, with an explosion of tough underground beats, enchanting melodies that simply lead you into a musical journey of, SSK. with support from your Pittsburgh 3rd Eye Squeegee crew: Cryoverb - 3rd Eye Squeegee/Anomalistic - Pittsburgh, PA Cryoverb explores the nebulous areas where subgenres & sonic flavors intersect & dissolve. He stitches the expected/unexpectednew/oldearthy/spaceyconcrete/abstractorganic/mechanicconscious/subconscious into a colorful tapestry. Influenced by science fiction & technology, Cryoverb sets are a mysterious soundtrack for a holographic choose your own adventure story. He has been in a trance of one kind or another for as long as he can remember, finding 90′s Goa trance & chillout on interwebs in his youth. Quickly getting jaded on mainstream rave / commercial festivals, he became more serious about electronic music production & started learning Ableton Live in 2005. Soon after, he discovered American psytrance festivals. Cryoverb has been on a quixotic alchemical quest ever since. He has an eclectic archive of music for every setting & season that he loves to share with others while traveling Prima Materia. and The Programmer - 3rd Eye Squeegee - Pittsburgh, PA Brian has been working hard to bring his own unique blend of transfiguring sounds and transforming visuals, mind-twisting concepts and technological evolution, head-warping beats and hand-crafted beer. He was turned on to the possibilities of dance at the Gaian Mind Summer Festival, and with the common interest in pushing forward into a new realm of sound and vision, he began as a VJ for 3rd Eye Squeegee. It wasn't long before audio manipulation was added to the repertoire of all-consuming interest; an interest that sees a variety of excursions into psybient and chillout, to full-on and twilight, through to dark, forest, and hi-tech psytrance. An Interest that was an All-in-One and One-in-All of limitless being and self -- not merely a thing of one Space-Time continuum, but allied to the ultimate animating essence of existence's whole unbounded sweep -- the last, utter sweep which has no confines and which outreaches fancy and mathematics alike. https://www.facebook.com/events/510623035733367/?ref=22
  18. There are some things happening in Pittsburgh again. There is an event I am playing at this Friday, Aug. 1: https://www.facebook.com/events/510623035733367/ and there is a new monthly the first Monday of each month, with other events as well from 3rd Eye Squeegee: http://3rdeyesqueegee.com/ or https://www.facebook.com/3rdeyesqueegee . The organizers are from Pittsburgh and Ohio. The Gaian Mind Festival has not happened for more than 5 years, but I think there are still some things happening in Philly once in a while. There are always things happening in NYC, but I know organizers change over the years... but I can guarantee something is happening. There is a festival in North Carolina later this summer, and there are regular events in Asheville. I've been living out of the country for over 5 years, so I am not as aware as I used to be, but I'm sure others here are...
  19. Laughing Buddha is a VETERAN of the scene for more than 20 years! Not a one-hit wonder by any means. He was half of Cosmosis (and Bill Hasley was one half of Laughing Buddha) before they both became solo projects after the first Cosmosis album. He is also half of Fearsome Engine (with Tristan), and they put out an album a few years ago. Since then he has put out two solo albums, including one within the past month or so... He continues to make new music and play at major festivals all over the world, so he does not fit this definition AT ALL!!!!!
  20. In the Pacific Norhtwest U.S. (Portland and Seattle) this has been going on for many years - on select occasions, djs would play 45 rmp vinyl at 33 rpm and slow it down. It was (is?) called "Sloa Goa." I don't know the history behind it, but probably A'damn (Goa Constrictor) or someone else who lurks here does...
  21. Yes, that album is highly recommended! (but came out in 2006, so did not qualify for the rules...) But I would definitely add that to your next purchase if you do not already have it!
