Is it possible to make psytrance using FL 6?
Aeros replied to toza's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
Invest in some good plugins and you will be much happier Myself (Synogen/Mindcrawlers) and Cybernetika both produce using FL6, though we don't touch the Fruity effects plugins or synths. As a sequencer its very comfortable to use. -
Apologies for the confusion on the genre. To me personally the track is goa but I realize its very far from the standard sounds you hear, I know alot of people here will say its more like psytrance (lacking eastern scale for example)...but in reality its no more goa than it is psytrance than it is progressive rock. The feelings though, I believe are closest to goa and thats why I chose to call that Apologies but until I get a Synogen account up at Beatbiz, Acidplanet is the only place where I can put this for stream or download. I know some people have some serious beef with it for no reason, but its stream is decent and no different from anyone else, just click play fellahs Synogen - Daydrift Further apologies that I release these tracks one by one...in the order they are produced. I know alot of much more established musicians come here and post their music in bulk from their websites. I'm not as well prepared nor skilled, however I believe in my music and I view each track as a peice of art, and create it as so. Music for the mind rather than the dance floor. (I do Mindcrawlers to take care of that ) The last 3 synogen tracks I have on Acidplanet are fairly consistant in my style...I am wondering...do you guys think this track (daydrift) along with the others is good enough for promo material? My other tracks listed there are expiraments; amateur work from when I first started producing for fun about 2 years ago. I've kept some up because I had some good comments from people. Production might not be the best but there are some moods and ideas to be appreciated. My name is Bobby Ognyanov, I'm 17 years old...a Bulgarian, but I have been living in the United States (currently California) since I was very young. My "studio" is entirely software for now, been using FL 6 with a number of plugins. I am thinking of jumping into Cubase soon, but for now I've been improving production with every track and have not hit a maximum with quality yet. When I do and I can improve with FL no longer, I'll try the cubase I'm starting to ramble, this is quite simple really to introduce this track. I have worked on Daydrift for 4 months, doing small bits and peices. It was hard to create a track that is not based on anything other than what came directly from within. The source of inspiration for this track was a combination of many things...in all honesty, it was mainly the way I felt about a person (of which can no longer be) =/. Daydrift corresponds to daydreaming from morning until night about something that can no longer be...drifting from memory to memory... This was a very emotional track for me. Durring the break in the middle and the end, you might notice a steady stab going that to me...reminds me of the ticking of a clock, of time going by. This element, though in the background, gets me every time... Ahh this is getting too personal Feedback is much appreciated, I'm curious to the response to this style of music.

Your music is quite good, I downloaded a few tracks earlier, will try these new ones too

Layering your bass is the trick. If you just want to deepen what you already have, try layering a sine over it. If you want it deeper, lower the notes 1 octave on the sine synth. Its not too hard to mix and match. As for your drum loops, maybe this is obvious but you'll fall in love with your beat slicer once you start slicing some percussion loops.

Thats great josh, but a link to your first song would very much help in order for us to listen to it

Any feedback on my first darkpsy track, or should I start posting new threads for each new song

Mindcrawlers - Elixer - Elixer is a darkpsy/psytrance hybrid with elements of goa and an uplifting melodic climax. Stream or Download at Beatbiz or Acidplanet This is our Mindcrawlers original darkpsy debut to our listeners, presenting a crisp and modern production. This is our first production to use Side-chain compression which plays a big factor in the stunning sound quality. Thanks to Dave of Infinite Dimensions for teaching us/helping out. Also thanks to darkpsy artist Cybernetica for hooking up some of his albino presets. Visit www.cybernetica.de to hear his music. This track is composed in FL studio 6 using Sytrus (bassline) and z3ta+, albino for the leads, and Waves plugins for mastering and FX Hands down the most crisp and proffesional production I've done to date, should have no trouble playing this next to your other darkpsy favorites Cybernetica I talked to you for about 5 minutes to get those presets, I'm sure you'd be interested to hear where they ended up. If you like this sound I won't say no to collabing with you sometime in the future 17 years old 179cm/ 64kg

Track 6... 10000 Shapes is Amazing That is my favorite track from this album. Everything else is beautiful too, I've listened to this quite alot already as well You are sticking 100% to oldschool roots and sounds. Some people may disagree with that and ask for inovation (track 4 and 6 are very innovative IMO), but I like that you are trying to bring back the oldschool feelings. You've accomplished it well and still brought something new. I recommend you continue this but try to preserve the feeling and vibe through new and more modern sounds. Show us something that has not been heard before. Thats the direction goa needs to take.

Gonna check these out for sure.

Things you must do when making music
Aeros replied to Mike A's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
I don't have a thing where its mostly producing at night...thats when I like to listen to it the most maybe, but I produce at all sorts of times, just whenever I'm in the mood, and I can tell because I'll have the itch to produce all day long and I'll get something in my head I won't want to forget. But yeah what I usually will do is just loop a portion of a track and brainstorm, afterwhich I'll add maybe one or two elements to it, or one new melody and then if it clicks, the track takes off from there and it practically composes itself. I could spend 6 hours on the first minute of a song but once I find the spark it will only take a few more hours to finish the song (then another few to fill in effects and polish which I would do some other day) As for useless rituals...they are afterall, useless and I don't believe I have any =) Except dimming the lights, eeek. I seem to do the water thing where I drink lots of ice cold water but I don't think that has anything to do with the music Just you gotta have some snack and bevarage so you don't have to get up from that chair, hehehe -

Let us know when the compilation is ready and we can download it, chatnik -
My friend, Renoise is quite bad for this kind of music I believe... You may want to invest in a different program to get the tools and functionality. A tracker like that might be really uncomfortable to work in in terms of the synths and all that, and I think you can tell with the comments you are getting about sound quality If you are looking to more closely match the psy sound you hear today, (or 10 years ago, your choice in style), a different program and its synths might help you out. Keep producing though, although everyone agrees these tracks could use more work, I think you have what it takes to get better and improve with each track you produce.

These are really good, I'll drop by and give some more comments/feedback when I have time I like the psy-goa feeling to the tracks.

Thank you mystic morning It is afterall, my twist on modern morning goa... Concerning Balkan...the section from 6:36 to 8:15 is either Hit or Miss I believe. If you were enjoying the song beforehand, you enjoy that trance section. However if you weren't feeling it much, that is where I loose most people. That being said, and having said I'm still interested in this style albeit some people requesting more aggressive things (look to mindcrawlers for that ) I would like to get some early opinions on my second track... CLICK HERE TO Download This is an early draft and has only one synth layer (the leads), taken around on abit of a brainstorming spree aranging some melodies and trying to express some feelings. This track is more emotional (it is inspired by feelings of love...) if you are paying attention you will notice that the track continues where Balkan left off. I've always dreamed of comming together with an entirely seemless album that flows from one style and emotion into another by the means of each track. I don't know if these two songs will be on the album, but I'd like to produce a handful of tracks with this idea in mind as a proof of concept. What feedback am I looking for? Well, firstly I'm still searching for good melodies, there are alot in there, help me out by pointing out which you don't like or think can be improved. But mostly, I'd like to know if the melodies ring a bell for anyone, what is your general feeling on the sound/style?
-
Hehe, wow seems the response to balkan is rather separated, some people really like it, others don't like it at all, theres no inbetween I guess i'll go back to the drawing bored in terms of looking for a style, though I like each track I produce and try to do something new every time until I find a sound I like. The problem with much of my old synogen tracks (all of them excluding Balkan) is that I was inexperienced with production and everything in general back then. Some sounds might sound rough or poor, transitions might be lame or underwhelming, etc. Some "expiraments" I feel bad about later on, like Spiritual Awakening, parts of it are just too overkill. But thank you very much for the nice comments. A perfect symmetry was perhaps my most deviated track that is still influenced by the goa sound. It was more of an art attempt than trying to make goa. Once again thanks for the feedback, if anyone has some time, it would really help if you point out which specific parts of songs they like since I try to expirament alot (one reason why the songs are so long and go through so many transitions). Give time markers for what you like, for example the build up and release at 4:00 on Goa Coaster, I've had alot of people tell me that was amazing When I know what people like, I can use more of that in future songs.

Hehehe, if you guys are looking to the amateurs around here to revive goa...its a pretty hopeless case I think Not many people are aware of these efforts. Support all these guys by giving feedback, tips and ideas to improve! Its not like any of the amateur produces that post here on this forum want to produce bad music Its all for the enjoyment of others and if its not enjoyed, give some feedback to make it more enjoyable! Who knows, perhaps they will get better and rise up out of here (think of lost buddha)

Anyone else? its a good song... Rate it out of 10 for me if you're too lazy to write more than a few sentances

Balkan is finished for when/if you want it -
Atilla The Hun is really good and original. Everyone here should check it out

Its been 6 months or so since I've released anything solo as Synogen, but here is my re-debut. I've improved an increadible amount since I last posted any Synogen tracks on here and I'd like to show everyone my new track. Balkan - Uplifting beautiful trance. I tried to keep it as unique and original as I can and I'm hoping this modern prodution could be deemed Neo goa? You decide. Stream and download is only availible at Acidplanet for now (I have to make a Synogen beatbiz account) Clicky ---> http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=781903&T=9421 If you want to download the track...a reminder that registering at Acidplanet is free and you can download music from anyone on there as well as review their music. I'm very interested in the response this will recieve. Feedback is much appreciated as well as needed since I have more stuff like this in the works.

Small tutorial: Fattening up Kick and Bass
Aeros replied to Cybernetika's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
Thanks man, I just tried this. Works better than what I used to do Another thing that helps is if you're using FL to have all the FX on channel 1 for example, and then put the kick on channel 2 and link channel 2 to channel 1. I'm not entirely sure what this does but try it and it makes the kick much much louder (you may have to readjust volume and FX if you already have them). I think it has something to do with FL making the signal mono and then applying it as stereo... Someone who knows more than me should try it and tell me whats going on -

The first song I completed start to finish. Surprises me now considering I knew next to nothing about production back then. http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=527979&t=9393 The first thing I ever put out was an ambient/soundscape track, messing with some samples I had. Its still pretty good I think. http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=407880&t=9393
