  1. You don't need piano lessons to make music, just use your ears. Piano lessons are necissary if you want to read sheet music and perform other people's music.
  2. Found another one, alienxss http://www.alienxss.de.vu/ Haven't gotten a chance to check out all the music but it sounds goa enough to me!
  3. Yup, this is fun reverse random sounds + add delay. If you can master this for percussions you'll have something very unique. I've yet to do a track that really does this well I think i'm overdue
  4. I'm never discouraged. Making music is a momentum that builds, as an artist (and engineer I suppose) you always have ideas going on in your head. The only thing that stops me is perhaps fatigue. A year or two ago I would experience occasions where I'd be in the studio for hours and not accomplish anything at all and get upset, but I've learned by now to avoid the things that cause that. Its when you sit down and don't actually have a purpose or motivation, you just click around and click around and play here and there but nothing happens. I've learned that the best times to produce is when you least expect it, when you don't plan it. Theres many times when I'll get home exausted and think of just relaxing, maybe watching a film or screwing around with a video game, then 5 minutes later I put on some music, get a massive dose of inspiration, feel like dancing, and then i open the studio and let my mind dance for the next 3-5 hours, until I cannot go any longer. If its durring the day and I have time, I'll take little breaks every 3 hours, let something render - when I come back I listen to it and contrast what I'm hearing with what my mind desires and I get a new wave of direction for the next couple of hours. If you find yourself regularly being discouraged after a short time, you are not in the mindset, you don't have a message, perhaps you have no motivation. You won't like hearing this but perhaps making music is not for you, and it'll remain just a toy. What got me to change a lot of my attitude towards producing is when I found out that most of the big name producers, they wake up each day and easily spend 10 hours in the studio, and they want to do nothing else. Take your time. Dance Try making music when you feel like dancing, you will never be discouraged. If you are not dancing to your music (whether mentally or physically) how do you expect others to?
  5. All samples get old, they aren't lyrics and should not be used as so, especially when people use the same samples. But what're we gonna do about it, without the samples the tracks won't have that edge or distinct refrain to capture it in peoples memories. This is why we hear so many samples, its like the cherry ontop for the track. But it definately should not be the majority of the pie.
  6. I believe its donned some melodies and has been renamed to Progressive Trance / Progressive Goa Trance - try some of the compilations with those names and get into the artists from there. 7. I'm talking about things like this: http://www.hercules.com/uk/DJ-Music/bdd/p/...2-traktor-3-le/ and this: http://www.behringer.com/BCD3000/index.cfm?lang=eng What are you guys using and what are the ins and outs, the compatibility probs/ the hardware shortcommings etc that I should consider before deciding to get a toy like this. Speak
  8. I made a thread for people to ask all questions regarding FL studio but no one uses it :wank:
  9. Yeah, enjoy these ones for now, they'll excite you for a long time - and when you feel you've heard all, the good news is they can get even better once you don't mind spending crazy sums of money Tool-wise they are such a good investment when you come to think of it, as one listens to sound so much... or well, everyone here does
  10. Yeah! You know I always wondered what happened to the cool police... They haven't been doing their job lately
  11. That sums up what I like least about this genre...all these really generic half assed albums with "goa trance volume 55" on them and they couldn't be further from even being slightly psychedelic or inspired. Actually, I take that back, I hate the album covers but now that I realize what the cover is for...there is some chunky good progressive on there Still what the fuck? Do you think 10 years from now we are gonna have soft euro trance albums comming out with the words "Dark Psy, volume 12" on them with like an apple on the CD cover? Its the same kind of thing
  12. You may have to tell them to be more sensitive to the mod wheel on the keyboard, or you may have to route it (which is a pain) and you usually shouldn't... If its giving you a pain in the ass just tweak the pitch or mod wheel, then click file in the top right corner of the vst's window (the fruity wrapper) and go to last tweaked parameter -> link to controller or just edit events and you can route that to some other knob/slider, or just skip it all together and draw the automation with the mouse.
  13. Yeah, those, the sonys, and the audio technica m50as are some very common headphones people use for production. Not perfect but still very good and accurate. Each kind has its slight weaknesses and for yours its that they slightly over emphasis the bass, meaning if you are mixing with these the bass will sound louder to you so you bump it down abit (or not boost it as much) so on other systems the bass will not be as loud, but this is a very small detail and you can make your ear learn around it so you can compensate for it. Also a negative is sometimes headphones like this can make anything sound good, so don't trust them too much
  14. @Agneton, yeah I was hoping to do an "influences" blip under each name and just give people a few very general words on what to expect from the sound - i'll take anything they're all valid, just keep them extremely vague, we'll come up with vocabulary as we go along I'm sure. For example, Pandemonium Influence: nitzhonot, powerful, melodic Filteria Influence: psychedelic, chaotic, Khetzal Influence: oriental, exotic, melodic Is something like that cool? We can do a few and if people widely disagree we'll ditch it @StrayDog Yeah this kind of project has been in my mind for the last couple of months actually, I seem to have realized someone eventually needs to start it. I'm probably the worst person since I'm so pressed for time and I prefer to make music rather than seek it all out, some of you guys will be much better at that than me. Anyway, in the end its pretty worthwhile for what it achieves, don't you think? In the longer run I would also like to organize the artists by the labels they associate with or whether they are unsigned/unreleased. In the longest run, info on what country they are from too, but we will do this all once we have the list fairly solid. I'm sure discogs will help alot.
  15. Thanks guys, keep em comming, I hope to have an extensive list maintained to show the momentum that this music is taking. Its only been a few years and all these artists have showed up, and they all serve only to inspire more and more. I think its a remarkable coincidence that a good 2 dozen artists have been building skills and working on goa since as far as 2001, and that in the last couple of years they have all surfaced skillfully. Its like a feeling in the air is manifesting into sound.
  16. In this thread post the websites and info (myspaces, promotional places, infos, websites, etc) of all producers of this 2nd generation goa sound we love. I'll organize a list and sub-styles once we get rolling. The purpose of this thread is to spread awareness for this budding revival scene and to show just how broad it is. We need to unite this music and establish it as a legitimate genre and a legitimate direction now that "psy" music is getting further and further from the palette we recognize as melodic psychedelia. Artists: (so far in no order or organization). Descriptions and background will follow. I would also like to start collecting all free or promotional media released by the following artists in this thread, and will generally greatly expand the list with info when I find the time/get the help to do so (anyone interested? ) Pandemonium Artha Jikooha Subra Goasia Radical Distortion Afgin Merr0w Vox Liquid Flow The Wonder Boy Ra Ajna CHI-A.D. Mindsphere Agneton Filteria / K.O.B. Indika Project Aerosis Infinite Dimensions Astrancer This list shows some of the more common names, but I definately plan on including any and every goa producer. There is atleast 5 times as many names as are shown here, I'm out of time tonight but will revisit this, so... PLEASE contribute names or sites of any artists you know of and together we'll compile this catalogue...remember, together we create our own happyness. The goa kids will stomp the dirt yet again. Special note: Full on is not goa trance! Infected Mushroom is not goa trance! Goa Trance Volume 33 is not goa trance! We know what goa trance is, and this list will feature only this kind of music or other alternative genres of melodic psychedelic trance.
  17. You betcha its goa. Great track! Only complaints are that the progression is abit linear in a few places, mostly the percussions being minimal, like at 5:20 and around 6:00 I was expecting the beat to pick up, try some 16ths with closed hats. Where you ended the track I was also expecting abit of a break and an explosion into a climax, you could keep taking the track. You could also benefit from some sweeping pads and things like that. Put a flanger on one of them if you're not "hearing it" Otherwise, good sound, keep it up! Gonna check your other tracks now
  18. Cuz you see, they take acid in the mornings *powww* and call you a motherf*cker! PLUR
  19. Theres also V/A Jelly Marbles =)
  20. FL Studio 7. Its just too easy and comfortable to work with, I love this software
  21. Yeah! Any undlsded kulurgs from this group??
  22. Love it when the cover reflects the effort taken to put together the music and compilation. You can't judge a book by its cover, but surely you can judge a psytrance CD by it's cover...
