Your equipment to produce your music goa?
qa2pir replied to InFecTeD_gOa's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
You have a computer, right? Get a sequencer for that, such as Cubase or Fruity Loops Studio. This should include some effects and synth plugins already, but you should really download some free ones as well. You'll need a good EQ (I can recommend Electri-Q: posihfopit edition and LPGEQ), a compressor and expander (Blockfish and Floorfish), reverb (Karma-FX reverb), and other effects. A perfect starter synth is Synth1. You should study the different effects and instruments available (although it's good to stick with a few synths, since most work in the same manner anyway). An effect database and a very good forum can be found at http://www.kvraudio.com. Get a MIDI controller keyboard, both for practising and for recording your melodies (although I prefer programming my melodies directly in the sequencer most of the time). -
1. Beyond the Infinite 2. Transmissions 3. Lu.Ci-ana 4. Bible of Dreams 5. Shango 6. Gods & Monsters 7. Labyrinth

Hey, man, will you just stop beginning every word with a capital letter? It's a bit hard to read what you're writing. BTW, when giving each sound its own space: try to focus on choosing sounds that don't interfere with each other. Use the EQ to fine tune these sounds, subtly. The only radical cut you should have to make is a low cut below the lowest fundamental on each instrument (usually not needed with VST synths though, because those generate pure tones). This will give you a more believable, less artificial sound. Good to know, even if you're going for synth stuff. Especially if you want to get those great atmospheres, which seems to be your thing. Good luck.

How do you make really great bandpass sounds?

Why not try some effect plugins? -
Hallucinogen will be a legend in this scene. Shpongle will be seen as the annoying pretentious crap that followed the brainstorm. If Hallucinogen is psychedelic rock, then Shpongle is progressive rock, you see? Shpongle still is somewhat good, but lacks the intensity of the message. In my opinion, of course.
-
Shpongle is just formulaic new age crap. Hallucinogen has both power and emotion.

No, that would be 'Twisted' :posford:

A little strange to post a review done by one of the guys working with the label EH!?

Funny track! Cool sounds in the beginning. Sweet harmonies. You could give the kick just a little more room, but it's nice that you focus on the atmosphere.

Cubase and free VST plugins.

Oh, now I know what genre it is Thanks!

A survey for the new school Goa fans out there...
qa2pir replied to Basilisk's topic in General Psytrance
That's strange. Does the same thing happen when you download music illegaly? When I download things, I do it to listen to them. -
Is this the Solar Quest who did Acid Air Raid and other awesome acid tracks? Sucky.

Look. The soundwave has pretty much the same amplitude throughout. This means that instead of feeling an increased intensity when elements are added, we will just hear each sound a bit less, and they will add up to an equal sum. It also means that when the music breaks down to reveal the basic elements, kick and bass for example, it will continue to be as loud as during full climax. It is also during these minimal passages that I found this music to be the most listenable (although it's quite brickwalled even there). These are good compositions, and it's a shame someone didn't even bother smashing them with style. You would achieve the exact same result by importing the mixdown into your DAW of choice and slapping on the first limiter you could find in your VST folders. Why did they even have to smash them in the first place? This is not a commersial release. People who are into it enough to download independent goa trance from the internet are probably into it enough to know how to handle the volume knob on their soundcards or in winamp, and raise the volume if they want more sound. Fuck the loudness war.

It's just ridiculous how this shit rips apart other Goa albums, at least in terms of power and creativity. It's such a clean, minimal sound with intense melodies, characteristic sound effects and heavy bass. Violence is fun.
-
Would have been dumb as a sarcasm, don't you think? No, seriously. If you don't hear that it's squashed to hell, just analyse it in Audacity or something. It's a brick wall, basically.
-
This has been so unmusically squashed during mastering that it's not even listenable. Don't bother downloading this.

why am I the only person here who listens oldschool psytrance?
qa2pir replied to radi6404's topic in General Psytrance
I think radi is actually in his twenties. He used to be 17 or 18 when he first came around. Must have been more than two years ago. -
If the definition of perfect is that you like all tracks as much, then I know many a perfect album. The other one is harder though.
-
Yes but how does it sound?
-
Send me a vocal and I'll chop it up for you.
