Flux ZEN MECHANICS VS FLEGMA AND NERSO TesseracT is at it again with another progressive trance compilation this time compiled by DJ Zoi who was apparently responsible for the festival in Greece of the same name. The track list is mouth wateringly good if you are a fan of the effect heavy and melodic soundscapes that these artists usually create. This label has their sh*t together and rarely disappoints. Day of Illusion- This was a long pumping track to open the compilation and while entertaining in spots, I felt it droned on. Highlights? The tribal feel with the flute was unexpected as was the cool breakbeat. The only problem was that those highlights were in the first 3 minutes. So for the last 6 and a half.... Basic (Zyce & Spinney Lainey Remix)- Nikola Kozić shouldn't be a stranger to anyone who enjoys the thick and melodic sound of progressive trance. Spinney Lainey sounds like a made up name but this is who helped with the remix. You got flutes, effects from all over the place, and percussive thumping to guide you through this. The break is a beautiful mix of tones and melodies as the flute soars high and the bass rumbles underneath. It's a good one. Carbon- Holy hell in a hand basket, Zyce is all over this thing. Sideform consists of Drasko Radovanovic and Milos Modrinic and they put in some good work here. Rumbling, crunchy effects and chopped up synths create a bunch of layers to sift through. Good bouncer. Awakening- "What we're doing here is simple. We're waking up. We're waking up out of our dream. You are lost in illusion. You're lost in your dream." Flegma & Nerso again with Jovan Tot and Ivan Jovicic and they deliver sparkly synths and trademark TesseracT echoing sounds fading into the distance. This one is also pretty layer intensive with the same plodding style that is rich in atmosphere. Another good one. Who Attacks Me- "Who attacks me?" I was never a fan of his minimalistic tech style approach, but hey you can't please everyone. There's lions growling in this I guess and it's more of a grumbly rumbler style of progressive trance. Even though I'm not a fan, I can appreciate it. Holy Spirit- This guy. Yep, this guy is responsible for the best progressive trance disc of 2011 with Shuma. Book it. Write it down. Put it in your cell phone. He opens with a nice spooky intro and his bass line is about a 8.9 on the richter scale. It's the darkest track yet with a synth line that screeches like i just dropkicked a cat for a score. Power baby, and near the end it changes tempo for a spell. That's the only part I didn't like. Just didn't seem to fit, but he gets back to being a rock star for a whale of an end. Leggos...what can't they do? Something Beneath- Apparently Nerso went on a beer run, so these two decided to make a track on their own. Snooze you lose buddy...shoulda had more in the fridge on standby I guess. It's walking with a big stick around the 2 minute mark and he won't let go of it. Attitude as synth riffs continue to echo and swirl. A searching melody spirals out of the rumbly bass not being too complicated. Loved it. Flux- I guess this duo got tired of Zyce hogging all the spotlight and substituted him for Zen Mechanics. His latest has been sitting on my desk for weeks. Really need to get to that. If you guessed that this would be deluged with effects then you get a cookie. Well, some cookie dough, I didn't have time to throw it into the oven. Whoa, whoa, whoa...go to the mens room if you're gonna do that! "C'mon, c'mon!!!" If that was all there was then it would be no big deal, but these guys bring the big beat that rattles the walls if you get me. Very rhythmic as it thunders into the break of long twisted sweeps. I really like the bass sound that rips across the air but like previous tracks before it has so much going for it that you have to hear it. Superb. Walk The Line- Nikola joins forces with heavyweights Dalibor Delić & Dragan Matić to create a track that has a mellow feeling about it. It's groovy and evolves slowly, but the melodies don't get uppity until halfway through. There is a chunky quality to the beat and that makes it more danceable and I think it's more of a sit on a beach chair with a beer in your hand type of track. Normally I would think it weak, but their effect placement is spot on thickening things up. Ok, show of hands...who thought there would be a Johnny Cash sample in there? Anyone? Great compilation. Full of power (well as powerful as progressive trance gets) and melody with oodles of effects to paint a picture. My Terror Bitch (Zinx Remix) - Terror Sekt My one experience with this label was the very heavy Extreme Noise Terror Vol. 2 compilation. Dark and intense that really had me wanting a nap after it was all over. And a hug from mommy. Twilight hyper trance is a good way to describe it. It wouldn't surprise me if this label was into other hardcore sh*t like snuff films or porn. What? They have a compilation called snuff? Get the f*ck outta here. This is João Varela from Portugal so expect that Portuguese sound and intensity. *In no way do I purport to know what this label is into. This review is purely for entertainment purposes only. -The lawyers 911- I heard pendejo and some gunfire. What do ya expect, the label pic has a Kalashnikov on it. The track itself has a chunky, duh duh chicka-chicka-chicka waaaooow quality to it. Very metallic sounding with leads that scrape across a chalkboard. Intense isn't a strong enough word for this hyper trance that sh*ts on light speed and takes it to ludicrous. I think João had a lot of fun chopping this thing up in numerous ways. This is like someone on cocaine needing some speed to get out of bed. Solid System- This has a science fiction feel with a few buildups and a very heavy bass line. More hyperactivity that makes me want to dance. This is steel on steel futuristic stuff with a cloak of darkness. Nah, a cloak implies it's hiding something and that is not the case here. It's a balls to the wall right hand uppercut. That poor soul's nickname was "The Fridge" which is apropos because the whole in his face could hold all sorts of vegetables. Rampage- "This song is just like you when you get the giggles. It's great to feel this way. And it's great to hear funny music." This track has a very big chip on it's shoulder and it dares you to knock it off. Intense twilight that still remembers that this is dance music. Very groovy with samples that make you feel a wee bit scared. The lasers eventually take over as they should and this is a serious song. There's more acid here than in your orange juice and probably equally nutritious. Great stuff. Hazardous- "Let the games begin." I keep going back to the cover and feel like I'm in the Matrix. Only the ending isn't a happy one. Poizon lends a hand here with some metallic machine gun fire. The effects make this an alien affair and they are on some old Timecode shit! The sample near the end was a little juvenile, but let it go, the rest is worth it. It's just downright evil with power and I haven't seen this much vile hatred since I ran afoul of my co-worker. "Oh no you didn't. Motherf*cker did you just eat the last piece of cake?" Annihilation (Zinx Remix)- "Harmful and wrong." This is a remix of a track from the A Violent Reaction compilation. It's chunky and clunky to start with lasers and squirty leads but becomes a pretty good stomper. Not a lot to say about it really. My Terror Bitch (Zinx Remix)- "I'll show you f*cking nasty." And he does. Shortest track on the EP, but good things come in small packages. Oh f*ck...this makes Penn State look like Sesame Street. Lasers and acid combine for an unrelenting barrage of blister. Metallic darkpsy squelches and groovy bass line manipulation make this one of my favorite tracks. It's a mover that totally rocks. Dark and twisted but fun as hell. Hi there, I'm the repeat button. Like acid? Good, you're gonna get a sh*tload of it. Like your trance to tell a story? Too f*cking bad, if you are in it's way you're roadkill. This is four on the floor left lane driving hyper stuff that laughs at the idea of ending it with a downtempo track. Everyone seems to want it. So...what is it? What the f*ck is a MarioKart? "All I ask is that you don't get mad at me...when you have to purchase mad d-batteries." I missed the first go round of goa trance because I was all decked out in flannel riding the grunge nottakeashowerpalooza. This is an EP release from Filipe Santos that is so old school when you open the CD case there is a f*cking 45 in it. Ask your parents. Or google it, isn't that what all the cool kids are doing these days? So it doesn't come with a 45, but you get what I mean. It is of course offered digitally, but the nice treat for old schoolers is that if you buy the CD (like me) not only do you have the physical product in your hand and support the scene, but it's cheaper. So, is it worth it? You bet your Boney Arse it is. 3 dollars American gets you more old school than the poppin' and lockin' of Rerun. It cost me more to have it shipped. How the f*ck do you beat that? You don't. There is more goa and acid passion in this than anything else out there. You get 5 tracks of ripping 303's and acid lines. Bringing back memories of Transwave and Etnica, you could actually believe this was made without a computer, just racks of synths one track at a time. It comes out storming with the swirling 303's and kick drums of yesteryear, and I can almost feel the beaches of goa. Nucleu3 shows his passion for the acid side of things with nice gurgling synths that mesh well with the classic storming goa sound. The tracks just ooze (I didn't do that on purpose) quality with sharp attack leads and sparkling melodies. Dehli Revenge bubbles and just twists its way to awesomeness with its dark tenor and squelchy brilliance. What a fantastic EP. Just fantastic and that's not hyperbole. I strongly recommend this EP so that you can come worship at the temple of the 303. I've never been there, but my government would have me believe that you should you choose to go there, make sure you say your final goodbyes to your family. You know...just in case. So much negative press surrounds Mexico. Questionable tourism bureau illegal border crossing pet peer pressure Stripper vampires I mean, it's like the final frontier out there. A lawless and ungodly land. But perhaps there is a ray of hope. Nuuktal Records delivers a compilation with an impressive lineup. Artists that have produced some very impressive tracks. They offer it on CD and digitally, but if you get the CD you get an extra track. Into Coma- This is Jesus and far be it from me to question the almighty, but I wouldn't name my track Into Coma when it's so boring. Nothing exceptional except the funky wood block percussion. Groovy for that fact, but rather weak track in all other aspects. Wish he woulda banged on that wood some more. So... a few hail mary's? We good? There is More Inside- "Thousands of years... philosophers and poets have told mankind... that there is more...inside." Don't know much about this project, but this track has a little bounce to it. It's not very detailed by any means, but there is a groovy appeal to it, especially after the quasi break. A little above average. Smooth By (Sideform Remix)- Vertex had one of the best progressive albums out this year with Ocean and now one of his tracks gets the remix treatment from Sideform. It's moderately paced with a very mack daddy groove. Synth leads dance over echoing effects and a very large kick. The break has some chopped up synths and the end finishes strong with some nice rushes and more up in the clouds leads. Good stuff. He's on some old Dukes of Hazard smoothness! Deeper- This seems more grumbly, organic if you will. The bass is pretty fat and there are plenty of effects to thicken it up. Foresty even. I like that there wasn't one particular melody that you could hang on to, but lots of little ones. Pretty ominous and very good. S.S. Ishimura- "Unable to comply. Password required for access." The compiler himself delivers a track that picks up effects as it goes along. But there still isn't much going on. This doesn't get the blood pumping. It's not bad, but it does leave me feeling empty. Many Questions- "I have many questions." Me too. Like, when is it over? Did you save the good track for another compilation? Did you set out to make a boring track? Cause...ya did. Morning Sensations- Synchroneyes...get it? Clever. This is futuristic with chopped up leads of the bass and alto variety. Nice break that was full of emotion and brought a new lead to the surface. Yep, I liked this one. Technical Elements- This is a chunky track with whizzing effects and chopped up synths coming at you in waves. It wasn't outstanding, but it was solid and kept things interesting. I thought one of the better ones on the compilation. Well, that could've been better. This wasn't close to the best progressive trance out there and I'm afraid can't be considered much more than generic stuff. The promo said "8 tracks that makes your blood starts pumping" Ahhhh....no. A lot of the tracks were the kind that went on without a lot of variation, which made it kinda like background music. Not minimal, but far from detailed storytelling. Approaching to pulsar - NEIRULA 11. Once upon a time - UNSTABLE ELEMENTS Sentimony Records is a Russian downtempo label based in the Ukraine that was started by NeiRula and Irukanji. This release was put together to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first manned spaceflight. Free Search- This is a lovely beatless ambient opening where the only constant is the soft hum of machinery perhaps scanning the fertile surface of an unknown planet for lifeforms. Creatures of the landscape chirp in response above futuristic pads. Got your space suit? God's Channel (Original Version)- Dmitry brings you 10 miles above the surface of the planet with some cold, droning pads as a discussion about space time unfolds. Everything seems to move in slow motion as the light from a nearby star reflects off the faceshield of an astronaut. This must be what it's like when your floating way up there with no sounds but your breathing. Sandal- The slow docking procedure of a vessel hums mechanically in the black void of space. Inside...it's deserted. The first beat of the compilation arrives in a methodical fashion as footsteps echo with a hollow timbre. Computer screens blink waiting for a command that will never come. Very spacious with gentle pads and a lead that rises and falls. I'm so chilled out right now. Tunguska- I imagine the sample is of Russian mission control speaking to their crew on a deserted space station. More droning ambient with a fast moving synth arpeggio. Could be the soundtrack to the astronaut on the cover making a few repairs. Someone check my pulse cause I'm fadin' fast. We Bring the Light- A short one here, but Alexander manages to bring a tribal aspect and a sparkle to the space journey. The rhythm picks up but nothing is changed. The same ambient that was happening before three minutes now has drums. It was nice, but simple and unremarkable. Endless Rotation- "I'm completely operational and all my circuits are functioning perfectly." This Russian duo have their 4th album called Inspirational Power out this year and here have the longest track on the compilation. Over 10 minutes of ambient...I might need a defibrillator. But instead of droning, his pads have dynamic strings and leads that don't let the mind wander. This is seeing the sun rise from behind a planet from 20 miles above the surface. Effects that speak to futuristic progress flutter as the beat gets heavier. The sample fits like a glove as the break vibrates with electricity. Chants and a slow synth line wavers out of the break and the track has an overall positive vibe. Very nice! Missing Bot- A far away chunky beat rumbles below some more spacious pads as a lead lightly growls. That beat germinates into an equally chunky breakbeat and this is easily the most aggressive track with scratchy synths. It's space chaos, I'm tellin' ya. If you were really sleepy this track put an end to naptime. The Third Orbit- Surprise, another Russian downtempo artist that brings floating pads and long, unwinding synths that drift in zero gravity. Soft melancholic tones drive home that isolated feeling one feels miles above the Earth. An awesome ambient piece that defines outer space ambient for me. Nine- Another Dmitry (must be like Mike over here in the States) that is well known for his darkpsy, but has been making a name for himself in the downtempo arena. Here we make our first alien contact with creatures that sound like the ones found in Pitch Black. Space dolphins if you will. It has a beat and it churns which gives it motion. It's ok I guess. Approaching To Pulsar- Ooohh, I like the gurgling metallic sweep. Metallic clankings ripple and where the other tracks marvelled at the beauty of space, this one shows you a darker side. Detuned synths provide a hallucinatory nightmare. Strings drone as a sample is drowned out. Not bad at all, but with the way it began I was hoping for something really twisted. Once Upon a Time- They could've ended this compilation on a great note, but instead decided to put an astronaut speaking to music. All the way through. If I wanted to know about the space missions I would've gone to the library and looked it up. A sample should enhance a track, not be it. Dis...wait for it...appointed. This was a nice trip into space with futuristic pads and atmosphere. It was a good mix of bright and dark themes with only the Irukanji track providing a hiccup in flow. Not saying it was bad, far from it. It just seemed...misplaced. The last track...c'mon man, leave that sh*t for school. My faves? Lost Senses- "You have finally lost your senses." Who you tellin'? This is pumping forest psychedelia with the super fast bass line and nice acid lines that fit well with the scratchy forest sounds. There is a nice melody that floats in at 2 and a half minutes but it only stays briefly. The best way to lure someone into a trap I say. It's not too heavy and is more accessible for those like myself who are reluctant to cross over to the dark side. You know so I'm standing at the edge of the forest, and the sun is going down and my f*cking dog ran in there. Do I go after him? Lost Engineers- Senses, engineers...of course everybody's getting f*cking lost it's a dark forest! This guy from Lithuania is one of my favorite forest trance producing guys. His tracks are spooky and motherf*cker I got turned around in this dark forest and can't find my way out. Damn dog. The woods creak and crack like a bowl of Rice Krispies and it all makes sense now. You twisted motherf*ckers...where's my dog? The opening strings are horror movie ready and the trees feel...alive. I see eyes everywhere...red, unblinking orbs. What was that sound? Amok- Those twisted sprites are mocking me now with portamento smiles. More scratchy leads run amok as they lead me deeper into the dark forest. The temperature drops as effects fly by my head. In the distance I hear a lone wolf cry. This is pretty twisted. Smektachius- Made up word? Possibly. When my son sees stickers that are identical he calls them dupakips (aka duplicates.) Flutes? Surely there must be somebody friendly here, mean people don't play flutes. Right? Bubbling forest sounds make me fell...uneasy. Spiraling effects and sick laughter have me looking over my shoulder. Oh, thank God it's Ronald....McDonald? What the f*ck happened to you? Don't...try...the...McRib. It's...people!!!! This was a great forest track. Great I tell you. Psychodrama- "What would you think if I told you that you, me, everyone came from outer space? Weird though it sounds, it's true. We're all aliens." Exhibit A What.The.F*ck? Bubbling, squeaks, pumping bass line...it's all here. At this point I'm pretty numb, having seen so many disturbing images. Creatures of dark origin circle with teeth bared, saliva dripping from their gaping maws. I just...I just want to find my dog and go home. Creepy Shumadi- Oh f*ck what's that clicking noise? Is the Predator here too? I love the use of the eerie chopped up synths, definitely chilling. There is a music sample that is used for twisted purposes but the reverb is so heavy that I can't make it out. It kinda becomes a wall of sound and takes away the evil pleasure of this track. Otherwise it woulda been a masterpiece. Frying Saucer- Fully under the sway of the forest, scratchy synths have their way. Don't know which way is up or down and just accept the next new horror thrust in front of me. Effects are spit out and twirled about as the aliens set their phasers to ridiculous Oh sh*t...Taco Bell...kicking in... To me this just comes off as incoherent noise over a bass line. Rock & Roll 21 Century- And in the totally unexpected what the f*ck department comes the final track. Sure, Homer Simpson is awesome and been used by loads of people. But...stay with me here. It had all the makings of a pretty good and groovy forest thumper. And then I discover that the forest swallowed the Marshal Tucker Band. How they got in there, I don't know. But they were still singing about what some woman did to him. Let it go dude. You're a zombie now anyway. Every now and then I need a little forest. The bubbling sound and dark atmospheres offer a nice balance with the melodic goa and twilight sounds I usually listen to. This was a pretty good comp, with the standouts being DoHm, Cenotes, TheRange Freak, and Gioll. Sweet Delicious Nose Clams - EMP 4. Enemy's Worst Nightmare - Orca Oh Yeah...hold on, be with you in a sec... MMD Records from South Africa has been a strong player in the digital market releasing numerous EP's where the twilight genre is well represented. This is the third installment of the Digital Breed series with 3 out of 4 artists I have never heard of. I have to say that the quality has been on the rise with each EP in the series, so...high hopes everybody! Stigmata- "Some things are the same and some things aren't. People...make different choices and...and therefore end up in different places." That screeching synth in the beginning almost approaches unbearable white noise, but Mr. Mass knows what he's doing. I guess, I mean he's a music scientist right? He's got monkeys flinging acid and a pretty tight groove so he's got that going for him. Or them. I have no clue who this project is. Hold up, I found his Facebook page. This is Daniel Honor aka Iron Lotus. The leads were ok and it was intense. Not bad. Brutal Train Blues- I've only heard one track from these guys before and I remember not liking it. I don't recall if they butt f*cked it with all the guitars they have in this one, but I still don't like it. Remember when Depeche Mode were effeminate males with weird haircuts, makeup, and mad dark, brooding electronica? Then when Personal Jesus came out they added guitars so they wouldn't seem so...gay. Dave Gore even wore a cowboy hat in the video that continued to make zero sense whatever. Which kinda made him seem even gayer. Like a member of the Village People. Anyway that's what this is...lots of guitars to cover up the bad music. And I mean lots of guitars. As a general rule, any track that has a sample saying "Bass" in it sucks sweaty goat dick. "Yeah, take it super evil, take it! Not so super now, are ya? Think I haven't heard the horny crack before? Well get ready for some goat's milk motherf*cker, you've been served! Oh..and that's for 9/11, b*tch!" Sweet Delicious Nose Clams- "We're stuck in first we need to boost our rpm's a little bit." And here we have the winner of the EP. Not only is it powerful as f*ck, but it has 2 kick ass samples and leads that are spooky in the way clowns are spooky. Yeah, they're fun...just don't turn your back on them. Orca is always good for a pounding bass line and a bucket load of acid. Metallic effects pour over you and he gets the groove rolling right away. I swear he could make some of his lead sounds with a turntable. Nightmare pads get the portamento treatment driving you further into hallucination as the soft tones speak of the dichotomy between good and evil. The last bit is verrrrry dance friendly. Elmo likes twilight and peeing in the potty! This was a good EP. I kinda felt obligated to get it since I got the previous two. I'm such a completionist. The Moon (Flegma & Nerso Remix) Back in 2004 Goran exploded onto the scene with the epic and groundbreaking The Art of Being Non. Lately he has been funking sh*t up with his Riddler project in a progressive manner, but I hear a new Talpa album is in the works. Always good news as his first album was so truly different than anything heard at the time. Orchestral, psychedelic...you name it. His 2nd album... All right, that's a little on the harsh side, but calling it a disappointment wouldn't be an understatement. So I guess he's making contacts with the right people because he's giving you a taste by releasing this 2 track EP on one of the best progressive trance labels out there. The Moon is from his first album and I'll be honest, I felt it was one of his weakest tracks. The singing got on my nerves and I couldn't get past it. But that's why they make remixes. And he got two very fine projects for the job. Hardy Veles is Goran Grubic and he makes quite the psychedelic monster. It incorporates the vocal with rumbly bass giving the whole thing a very mystical feel. Not progressive in the least, but psytrance with a dark edge. Flegma & Nerso should need no introduction as makers of some of the most detailed and melodic progressive trance today. Their version is a long one with percussive clicking and alien footsteps. Effects whiz past the ear as sounds echo deep into the night. The vocal that I didn't like on the the original is still there, but the way it is framed here amidst the effects and eerie melodies gives the whole track a ritualistic vibe. Nice little EP he's got here. It's more psytrance with some progressive leanings, but it worked very well. See, this is how remixes are supposed to be. And now for the review that nobody was waiting for. Well, that's not exactly true. When this appeared on my radar my reaction can best be summed up by this picture: Oh I was salivating... Like most of you, I knew to avoid this like the steaming pile of refuse it is. However, it occurred to me that some visitors might not be as educated as we on the status of the genre and in particular to it's players. Let's try to dissect this without getting to close because this sh*t can spread like herpes. Also, I feel this has gone on long enough. As much as I want to rip it, It's time for an intervention. Beginning with the cover. *Sigh* I like boobies. Love 'em actually. But I'm also an adult that doesn't need to see images objectifying women to arouse my interest of to get me to purchase something. I'm married so I get to see a great pair of boobs for free. You know who needs this? These guys. So either you're catering to a portion of the population that has never kissed a girl or been on a date or...you are that population. 2nd, keep it real. What exactly are you keeping real? Here is a short list of artists that have used that as a title to their tracks. Lost Boyz MC Ren Jay-Z 504 Boyz Jonas Brothers...what the f*ck? Ok, throw that one out. Know your comfort zone... Thirdly and most important is the music. My psy addiction began with early Ultravoice stuff. Everything was new and shiny, The Star Alliance brimmed with full-on power. And Azax? Regev, you will always be a hall of famer for tracks like Hagi Gat, The Covenant, Big Mystery, War of the Worlds...But like the cover I have outgrown you. Somewhere along the way you guys decided to go the commercial route and appeal to the least common denominator. That's cool, you gotta do what you gotta do if you want to make a living with this music. I tried to like this. I did. Even as a guilty pleasure. Sure there are several parts in the tracks that are groovy and cool, but they are torn asunder by the colossal amount of cheese, build ups, annoying samples, and cliche tricks that plague this genre. So yes, I tried. Man did I try. But I also believe in redemption and second chances. You can turn this around, but you have to take the first step. Go back to the lab and listen to your old tracks. Rediscover what made them great and build on it. Please don't take my criticism as elitist as I'm an ordinary guy that just loves psytrance. Fractal Overdrive (Alienn Remix) 4. Fractal Overdrive (Elektrik Boy Remix) Hypergate Records was founded by Sidhartha (Nuno Santos) and has been on a bit of an ass kicking tear lately. Well, at least digitally. They are a full-on label that stays true to the driving Portuguese sound. With the smashing twilight quality of Alienn's One EP and the very good Tryon Cube Sequence EP, I am left with their first digital release. Karmacrop (Sidhartha & Khopat) may have been responsible for the original track on the largely forgettable Fractal Energy 3, but here we have 4 remixes of that track by some of the best names in the twilight genre. And whoever the f*ck Elektrik Boy is. Verdict? Let's just say that this maintains the quality of their other digital releases. It's pretty good actually, but if you hold it up to the insanity that was Alienn's One Ep, well everything's gonna look bad. It's all relative. I love a good hot dog, but if you offered me a choice between that and a 16 oz. steak... Karmacrop owns this EP with an acid soaked bath and crazy zipper leads. Suria brings a lot of metallic and scratchy leads with a nod toward the darker and side of things. Pretty good as well. Patrik continues his commanding wield of all things acid with his take as his leads pinball like a uh, pinball with a couple of build ups that I could've done without. The final remix has a punchy bass line and some distorted psychedelic leads that could've placed it in the forest. Good show. So all in all a nice release. Intense and firmly planted in the twilight mode. If you're looking for an acidic Christmas than this will melt your tree. Congratulations Hypergate, I salute you. Although I believe the Police Academy series kinda puts that theory to bed, don't you? It's a who's who of downtempo artists chosen and mixed by none other than Mr. Aes Dana. The letterbox is back baby! Silenzio Delle Sirene (Album Edit)- This is Lithuanian duo Adomas Juozapavicius & Robin Graat who crafted a beautiful track to open the compilation. So rich in detail and atmosphere you would think they were doing this for 10 years. The bass line gurgles in an endless rotation as effects give it some freedom. Forlorn leads wail expectantly with some shimmering qualities as pads weep with regret. This is a track where you can sit back in your easy chair and play with your balls. Millenium 3- With a stomping beat right away Charles blends smooth, soft pads with throbbing synths that oscillate. The break is one of breathtaking beauty as waves lap against the shore. Deep thunderous booms make me think of entering the water from great heights as it all plays out in slow motion. Very nice. Memories Maze (Flashbacks SE)- The very prolific Dmitry Redko continues the trend of rapid fire bass lines below airy and cloud shredding pads. The beat is progressive in tempo and while not coma inducing like his awesome ambient work Solar Walk, this is a straight ahead dream maker. Remember Risky Business? Of course you don't, you probably only go as far back as Harold and Kumar. But Tangerine Dream had a track in that movie while they were on the subway that was also in this style. Now I'm not saying go f*ck some prostitute on the train, but if you do, put this on your iPod. Ok, ok...don't patronize me. Feller Buncher- This is Bjarte Andreassen and Jostein Dahl Gjelsvik a Norweigian ambient project and I cannot pronounce even one of their names. The music makes me feel like I am in a dream state as it drifts slowly along with tendrills of electronica and swirling melodies. Soaked in reverb. They pay tribute to famous green poet Rolf Jacobsen with a sample. Don't know who that is, but it sounds like it's a little heavier than the material I read when I'm taking a dump. The track slows down as the end like some dumb tech tripped over the power cord. Signals- Clicking and swirling pads comprise an ambient opening and then it acquires a kick along the way. This is sitting on the beach as the wind blows in off the ocean music. It's got good bounce as it floats into the clouds. Smooth. Final (Max Million rmx)- Mr. Baumann...how do you combine eerieness with tribal sensibilities along with a glossy veneer? Slow and steady downtempo with strong bass, sharp pads, and timid melodies. Goes into breakbeat mode which gives it a little swagger. That kick is pretty massive as the guitar strings fit well with the electronic stuff. Yessir, lots of layers to chew through. Loved it. Su Abir- This guy is from Malta and who doesn't want to hear what someone from Malta can do? F*ck I don't think I could even find it on a map. Is it near Egypt? His album Opus Eva is out now and I can't wait to check that out. Soft guitar strings, ethnic instruments and a very folksy vocal predominate as melodies twinkle from above. Metallic whining and twirling synths unravel in a melancholic tone as he adds more real world instruments...what the hell was that a basoon? 8th grade band geeks rejoice! Woodwinds has a place in psy! Good for you man. Another winner. Gedanken wie diese- Anyone who speaks fluent German (I'm sorry...what? When did that happen?) like myself can tell you that this is German for Lemme Smang it Giirrrrrl. See? Stick with me... It kinda has a positive lounge feel...if you were stranded on a spaceship travelling away from Earth that is. The bass is all sine wavy as a synth effect rotates through the track. More sad pads and mournful wails as the girl won't let him smang it...so you see, he is right to be sad. Goofy looking oompa loompa, I wouldn't let him smang it either. I think this was my least favorite and by least favorite I mean damn it was still good. Hundred Miles- This project is called Maurizio Piazza (Maurice Pizza?) cause his name is Maurizio Piazza. Rattling, clicking, and a general fuzziness is how I would describe this track. He's got some twinkling and the thing picks up the pace to a moderate tempo, but doesn't have a recognizable...whatever. Nothing you can grab hold of. It's an effects trip with a kick and a clap. I can see where he gets the track title. Like if your car breaks down and f*ck it's a hundred miles to the nearest gas station. OnFlow- Magnus closes the journey with more pads than that guy Bobby is kicking in the nuts. It's cloud surfing, on a euphoric high. As bass tones bubble underneath, positive vibes and heavenly pads caress you. It gets loud like an orchestral brass fanfare as more tones sprinkle from unicorn horns. A rainbow just sh*t in my mouth and it tasted like skittles. Very sunshine oriented. First off I would say if you were looking for beatless ambient then keep looking. The style represented here is more of a progressive or evolving "ambient" trance with 4/4 beats as well as some of the thumping stuff. One of the reviews on Discogs intimated that this wasn't anything you could relax to. Wait maybe he's right. If like Michael Jackson you're addicted to propafol. Maybe that individual only listened tot he first 3 tracks. It's meditative, it's relaxing, and it's thick with storytelling atmosphere. I like how it's mixed to provide one long cohesive journey. There is an insane amount of detail to be discovered with different moods represented. Ok, obviously you either a) don't have kids b)had kids so long ago that you don't remember what the first months of their lives were like (which I doubt) or c) you don't give a f*ck. Getting your child to sleep through the night is like getting to third base with the head cheerleader. If I gave a sh*t about twitter, I could've given you status updates every hour and a half @f*ckagainyoujustateanhourago #it'syourturntogetup. The first few months are like a nazi war era experiment on sleep deprivation. Zombies training for the apocalypse looked at me and shook their heads in empathy. Sure, we have to straight jacket her when we put her in the crib for night time....what? Oh I see. The "technical" term is swaddling. I don't care what you call it, kid goes to bed looking like this. Minus the shiny pleather, green pants and Cask of Amontillado Oh God I just shat myself mask. *reaches for pocket tape recorder* "New idea for a movie...Saw 7...the Swaddling." So when I tell you she is sleeping through the night, it is a joyous experience. Leaves me some time to do some things around the house. some light vacuuming... getting rid of that rat problem in the basement trying to keep the ol love life spicy But of course mainly I get to really sit down with some great music and give it the time it deserves. This is another free release from Imba and his UAF label. The quality has been getting better and better and after giving this some quality alone time, methinks we have reached a high point. The Last Breath- Remember when that treasure trove of tracks was uncovered by Stéphane Bèze? It was like Christmas in this b*tch. Since then he released the awesome Holographic Paradigm in 2010 and here he gives you...breakbeat goa! Chunky rhythms, twirling melodies, and echoing synths are the order of the day as this truly entrances. The leads vary between sunshine and the kind that would leave a smear on the windshield. Thick and enjoyable. You go Stefan. You go. Space Flight- No idea who this is, but he brought his hi-hats to play. They sound really crisp, but it's the leads that really will get you. Goa through and through with it's 4 on the floor drive. Very aggressive and puts all its cards on the table. Endorphin- Paul Yelland in the mix and he's made a few good tracks, but they've been hit or miss for me. He's got a nitzho kick and a lead that sounds like he let a squeaker fart. Only unlike you, he can modulate his. Man has talent, gotta give him that. This also has drive and an undercurrent of constantly added synths to fill it out and keep it fresh. There are two breaks in this track...one has sitar (nice) and the other tells me to feel the rush. Like Black Friday at a Wal-mart? Actual footage of an Arkansas Wal-Mart. No X-box is worth dying over. The Power of Mind- "Well I think that all of these techniques...mantra, tantra and yantra work incredibly well in the presence of psychedelics." These two guys just know how to make the good music. Their only other track was on the first Goa Overdose as far as I know. So many layers it's like diving into a German chocolate cake 7 stories high. Full of sunshine and swirling melodies it's so euphoric that you get the spirit in you. See this is what I'm talking about...their kids just slept through the night. Fantastic and about to start a run of truly mindblowing tracks. The Run- Churning, layered goa trance here with a nod toward the dancing aspect. The synths echo off all surfaces and the massive lead kicks off at 2 and a half minutes. Strapped in? Good. There are twisting leads that sneak up on you and add to the melodic solar flare as this one morphs and evolves. F*ck it's good...like riding a sunbeam. Free Space- Imba where do you find these artists that make such powerful goa trance? This lead dances like it's feet are on fire, joining seamlessly with other similar synths. Whoa, whoa, whoa...a ripping 303 too?? F*cking hell it is engaging and I find myself spinning involulntarily. This was on repeat I don't know how many times. Love it, a track that shines and growls is a winner in my book. Umm...somebody? Anybody? Help me I uh...can't stop. Promise I won't make any more movies... Acid Rain- This Alexandre Cohen that was on the Project DIY Belgians comp and is another good one. It gurgles with melody but it isn't a sheer wall of force like the previous three tracks. It gives and takes, with gentle pads and pinpoint squirts. At times it erupts with some screaming 303's but never overwhelming giving you just enough and then switching it's crosshairs to another spot. Love that. Consequences- See Luis, there are consequences to making good tracks. We will soon be expecting an album from you. At first I thought you were taking the piss with that Shpongle vocoded vocal in the beginning, and what the f*ck dude, did you strangle a cat with that sound? But it was just a set up. You distracted me. "Think that's funny?? Bet that's not the first time some balls hit your nose!" It's gettin' sticky up in here and I feel like I just stepped into an acidic puddle. Waves of sound start to cascade over me and the break begins to heighten the tension. The bass fills things out as it puts the accelerator to the floor and then he gets all 303y on you. A screeching, twisting good time that finishes strong. You've outdone yourself sir. Teonanacatl- Teno...teona...f*ck Christoph, six syllables? And then almost 11 minutes? I can't be mad at you. Your album Turning Point was very good and this is along the same type of style. Slowly evolving, shimmery and pumping...kinda like the thinking man's goa trance. Yeah you got sunshine coming out of your ass, but it's spiritual, mystic ass sunshine. Oh I know, you can bring the gurgle too. The flow is really good in a smooth transcendant way. Wow, this compilation has all the makings of awesome. Spiral Dive (2011 mix)- I don't like Toï Doï. There I said it. Maybe it's those dots above the letters always looking at me. Nothing personal of course, but his brand of chaotic goa trance never appealed to me. I realize that may not make me cool with the kids, but f*ck it I have kids. I'm sure there's gonna be a long list of uncool things I will do. Sure I liked your Mother Pitch EP but most of your music...I just didn't get. But hey, I don't hold grudges, and the more people making the beautiful goa music the better I say. Holy. F*ck that's a deep voice. I don't think a didjeridoo could get that low. Maybe it's the sounds you use, but it grates on my ears. There is very little change as he distorts the lead. Yeah he adds to it with another synth that rides shotgun underneath, but it just...goes. It's like his car doesn't have a steering wheel. Straight ahead and if you're in the way you 're gonna get hit. Turn signal? You'd have to be able to change direction for that. Still it was different and that has to be appreciated. Wow, that was impressive. Melodic to the bone with power and twists and turns....you can't ask for more than that. I know the trend is for the darker, edgier goa trance, but this was just flat out good. And a new school goa trance net label was born. Label head Ivan Richpa worked his tail off to provide the best in goa trance for free. Sound quality was never a problem as Deimos did all the mastering and the visual aspect was beautifully done by Ivan as well. Alas, all good things must come to an end and the cost of delivering such high quality for free was the netlabel's doom. So it is with this swan song of over 8 months work that Ivan has chosen over 2 hours of high quality goa and psytrance along with printable cover artwork, high resolution wallpapers and posters. By the way, thanks for the shout out on the liner notes. Music on first part of compilation can be described as darker and more experimental goa, while second part focuses more on the melodic side. Intro(spection)- This is Oswald Pfeiffer who has been tearing it up lately. Some compilations like to come out guns a blazing but this is more of a smooth introduction to what you are about to hear. Is Leyra your new girlfriend? I get it, new chick, trying to impress her..."Hey baby would you like to be in my next track? Yeah, yeah, just speak into this microphone." This her? E-mantra knows what I'm talkin' bout... This one is smooth and non threatening, inviting you to come inside. Gateway ain't gonna hurt you...just another word for entrance. Don't be scurred. Nope, I didn't misspell that, but it would help if you spoke a little jive. Very futuristic ambient opening with colored light flashes and oscillating synths. The beat churns at a moderate pace with wobbly bass as he filters the crap out of it. Layers echo with reverb and this got better and better each time I listened to it. Zen Hyperbabble- Haven't heard from this project in a while and and this is just Bobby Ognyanov without Jeremy. Hope all is well in paradise. The futuristic theme is continued as he is guiding you through the Gateway with measured ease so you don't freak the f*ck out. Lots of bubbling with wobbly bass sounds as eerie pads hum lightly in the background. Sh*t did it just get colder in here? Different from what you would expect from this project, as it crawls while not attacking. The layers blend nicely building something special with hallucinatory sounds that echo. This is wet with atmosphere, almost like forest goa. Another great grower. Eclipsis (cycle mix)- Lars Goossens is a one man hit-making machine with quality releases like Colossus, The Scythe of Orion, and Atropos just to name a few. And he gives it away for free. He tackles every style (except psy-polka...still waiting.) and does it well. But 12 minutes? n*gga is you crazy? Crazy like a fox apparently. You are already through the Gateway so you might as well buckle down. This track reinvents itself several times. No longer holding your hand, Lars presents a track that swirls around you, spinning you until you have lost your sense of direction. Oh-oh...somebody is lost. All part of the plan with piano tinklings and a break with dnb evilness. One thing I didn't like was the transition at the 7 minute mark. It seemed spliced in there like it didn't belong. Felt that could've been smoother. The final melody swayed as if swung on a rope, but it just didn't hit me. Good, but not great. It's my fault really. I see Cybernetika on a goa compilation and I'm expecting Plasmoid every time. Edge of Darkness- Antares did a good job with his debut Exodus and if we were still in the beginning phases of the compilation you might get some light and friendly melodies. But we are now 4 tracks in and you get his darker alter ego Daimon. Catch his track on Temple of Chaos? Brutally good. All pretense of kindness evaporates as he darkens things up with some sharp leads. Can't see as well in the dark so maybe that's why you didn't see that punch to the face coming. An evil screeching lead mocks you as you try to pick up what's left of your teeth. Listen to him...he's laughing at you. Not in Kansas anymore sweetcheeks. After the previous tracks got you through the doorway, he just slammed the motherf*cker shut. Pataxo Ayonat- Natan Bueno had a great EP called Sunshine Reborn where he flexed his goa muscles. Don't know what the title means and the sample is Portuguese to me. It's pretty straight forward with an odd chant at the break. Not a lot here and to be honest, he's done better than this. Funkscape 2.0- Deimos aka Igor Čeranić aka Perfect Blind funnels in a progressive groove with washes and a funky step. It's a remix of his track on the Entities compilation and it sounds fresher with more funk and effects. Really like the percussive touch. Massively big in Iono music style it's a head nodder with a simple premise...move. Hey elmo Perreira good of you to come! Nice to see you giving back to the kids. Hope he doesn't get pissed off, cause I'm gonna beat that one into the ground. Binary Perception- This is Tore Mortensen from Denmark with a downtempo track to close Part 1. It's a slow and steady ambient dawn over a frozen landscape loaded with mysterious pads and light synth touches that keep the feeling futuristic and dark. The sun has yet to crest the horizon and it reminds me of Ultimae releases with a nice glitchy touch with some echoing percussion. The 6 minutes flies by and I hit repeat several times with this one. Brrr...it's f*cking cold in here. I need a hot chocolate. Mentally Unfit- This project had a track on the first Gateway which was really good. The beginning sounds like someone fell down the stairs and tripped over a xylophone in slow motion, but stay with me here. The tempo is quicker with lots of effects that fill out the track. Like guiderails that keep you on the road. The lead at 5 minutes is pure goa that singes what it touches. Building layers as it goes it's not your normal 4 on the floor goa track. Liked it. Electric Manna- Now that we have passed through the dark side of the Gateway, warm pads speak of better times...hopeful times. Michael Nadj had a superb track on Twist Dreams (God, has it been that long ago?) The Manna is truly electric as the leads crackle like current flowing down a conduit. It's very shimmery and halfway through it finds its legs with some nice layering and a driving style. Very outer space and bubbly but it fizzles at the end. One more strong climax would've made this a great track. Reality of Life- Renato Brnić has had some strong releases with the Vs EP with Sky Technology as well as his EP Main Sequence Star. This has some nice subtle layering with leads sliding in and out of position while maintaining its power. The final climax is good with increased intensity. Pretty good. Goa Station- Is it like a gas station where hippies fill up on patchuli, mismatched clothing and weed? Nah, I'm just stereotyping. This greek duo seem like veterans in the scene and bring a track with a little bite to it. It's edgy with loads of melodies but keeps it's feet firmly planted in direct sunlight. Leads skitter and square waves are twisted to ear piercing levels. Great all the way through. It's long, and seems to gather an impressive head of steam at each turn. Just when you think it was over it comes at you again. Loved it. Lasers and Demons- "We are dreamers, shapers, singers and makers." This is Daniel Eldström whose album Human History was superb with some capital erb if you know what I'm sayin. You do know what I'm sayin' right? The Swede comes out swinging with a melody that doesn't mess around and a bass that means business. It's angry and the growl might be the least of your problems as the lead begins to scream. Let the involuntary shaking begin! See this...it's the coefficient of shakin that ass! Awesome track that hits like 10 car accident. Blistering. Classic Attack- Ah, Luis is quietly beginning to make his mark on the scene. Another straight ahead track with really in your face leads. He's like, filtering that one past 11. The break adds some outer space feel to it while that one lead chops away. The only thing with this was there wasn't much variation. It comes out and what you sees it what you gets. Presence- Can I get a show of hands of how many people are excited for a new goa album from this gentleman? Whoa...take it down a notch Jimmy. Didn't say he was gonna blow you. Richpa told me this was one of his oldest tracks and he supplies us with a downtempo closer that is...hold up let me read this again...over 14 minutes!! 14 minutes!?! Well, let me get my lunchbox and get into this. You know how a lot of downtempo tracks placed at the end are full of mystery? Not this one, it's bright as f*ck! Shimmering synths, floating leads that dance on warm currents, and bubbling bass sounds keep it earthy yet still reaching for the sky. Like if Kitaro dropped the opium pipe and just took about 20 tabs of LSD. That'll show you a Silk Road. With demons. And spiders...lots of em Freaks me the f*ck out everytime. Beat drops at over 5 minutes and my sunglasses are firmly locked in place. Synth melodies intertwine like a DNA chain and then that chain separates...we've got base pairs all over the place! It's pandemonium! Mutation! Mutation! Just because we can doesn't mean we should. So....since it's a dogs head...can he lick his balls now? Just askin... More layers as one lead scrambles across the sky like if Emerson Lake and Powell and Pink Floyd's music had a psychedelic baby. See at 14 minutes I can ramble like this. A downtempo track that didn't make me think about what's out there, but just let me enjoy what's here. Neogoa has done it again. Firstly, how sweet is that cover art? I can't stop looking at it. As far as the music goes, the first part eased you into things with its focus on darker, more experimental goa proving they don't have to beat you over the head with melodies to make a pleasing track. But what they did do was drench you in atmosphere that you could almost reach out and touch it. It then got intense for a few tracks before they backed it down ending in Erot's beautiful Binary Perception. Oh yeah, and with his track here, Daimon has cemented his status as king of the hill for dark goa as far as I'm concerned. F*cking kid is what....19? You lucky bastard. Probably knee deep in ass right now... Once through to the lighter side it was sunshine in the fast lane until the end with Mindsphere's reeeeaaaaalllly long track. No bad tracks and some really good ones. This compilation has a good flow and is a very nice addition to all of your other releases. Of not being happy with what you have, but being unhappy with what you don't. Based on a true story. The names have remained the same because he is the f*cknut that did it. Elmo Pereira had it all. Fame, with appearances on the late night talk shows. Fortune Women. But as is the case with a lot of stars who rocket to the top and burn so brightly he became addicted to the perks of the lifestyle. The fall began while he was shooting a product shot for Red Bull when tragedy struck. He was burned on over 70% of his body spending 7 months in the intensive care unit. Once released he became a virtual hermit, sinking into a deep dark depression. To take his mind off his troubles he traveled to Ireland for an extended vacation. Unfortunately his wealth allowed him to crawl inside a bottle in an endless menagerie of pubs and backroom bars where the drink choice was only limited by his imagination. But alcohol was merely a gateway drug. Soon his recreational drug use became habit forming. Coke, heroin, prescription drugs to numb the pain and finally...meth. Immediately rumors began to circulate to producers and he was quickly dropped from his successful television show. His agent stopped fielding his calls and soon he took up with a bad crowd. His downward spiral continued with the release of his latest books. The fanbase scattered like dust in the wind and sales were dismal. For the final humiliation he was caught on camera performing favors for drugs. With no where to go and nobody to turn to, he sought relief in the warm embrace of death. After not being seen for many months, Elmo released an album that garnered critical acclaim in 2009 called The Twilight Solution. Psytrance seemed tailor made for his high strung personality and the music he made had the masses dancing. After favorable appearances on compilations, Elmo has since gotten his life together with professional and personal success. This EP is his latest effort to quell the demons that have haunted his past. Awareness Test- "This is an awareness test." All hands on deck cause this is a rumbly motherf*cker. The leads rip as thick lasers strafe the target. I'm sorry did he drip a little acid on you? Tide will get that sh*t out. He's got the layers and a build up that actually builds tension. How novel. Good job sir. Frequency People- "Well how can people relax under the tensions of modern life?" More blow jobs obviously. Sounds heavy with a cyber twist. It's more of a underground sound, with churning rhythms. After the break, the lead starts to do its thing and the acid is let loose. It hits its stride near the end and becomes a pretty good track. Kind of a wall threatening to topple on you. Deep Space- Acid rollercoaster. Strap yourself in and try not to lose your cookies. That lead dances like a stripper I saw who told me she was only doing this to pay for medical school. Well, far be it from me to get in the way of science and education. The end is an array of sticky leads and bright lights which make it one of the best tracks for me. I love the shiny lights! Hypergate Records is on quite the roll. Massive release after massive release with quality night time sounds. I liked Sidhartha as an artist and I like him as head of this label. The Portuguese sound is intact and as potent as ever. He should coin that to go on his booking page. Like "A good track is automatic when you book Dragan Matic." Writes itself. Anyway, this guy makes some awesome progressive music. Deep and layered with oodles of storytelling melody. His album Exploration of Infinity was brilliant with a capital B. Here he is with two new tracks that Intergalactic Voyage- He creates some great atmosphere right from the get go as the bass line gallops deep into space. Sweeps pepper the ears and metallic textures chime with cold isolation. Love the echoing effects as the break generates a new lead from the abyss. When the 303 begins to growl I'm send adrift without a tether line. Damn if it isn't dappled with a little goa flavor. Perfect music to sway to while I eat my meatloaf and mashed potatoes. "Marge? Marge! Where's the "adult" medicine we were saving for Burning Man?" Quantum- Saddle up we gots more bass lines a gallopin' towards us! He's got the scratchy effect thing down pat as this track is loaded with it. Rolling sounds flitter by like stray bits of rock in an asteroid belt as his ahem, break pulsates with energy. The guy does it again. Or still. It's like king Midas in the motherf*cker because he just doesn't make a bad track. Deep and drifting progressive that works really well for home listening. That's right hippies I said for free. So drop the rolling papers and go check it out. The layout is very nice and it is bristling with a bunch of info and releases. I haven't heard the vast majority, but this one caught my eye. If they bring the same good time goa and nitzho combo that Zed did, then it's win win for free, isn't it? Burn The Leads- This is some dark nitzhonot ripped from the pages of Zed Reactor's debut album Interplanetary Entity. It's loud, and has the trademark kick that we all know. Like key changes? Yep, it's got 'em. Like a funky break? Present and accounted for. Think of it like the little nitzho kid in school that the bully pick on until one day he decides enough is enough. My my...don't think that kid was expecting a southpaw... Tyrant Virus- "Stay sharp...we're not alone." That's right...the intarwebz are watching. This one is a thicker piece of Nitzho, with swarming leads, well placed samples, and vibrant break full of eerie intent. Well, the Resident Evil sample was kinda corny along with the evil laughter, but I can look past that in the name of fun. Coulda come right off his album. Welcome To Hell- "Welcome...to hell!" What was beginning as another nitzho fun time quickly turned into a dark, uncomfortable trip. He's twisting knobs, people are scared...Then the track switches focus. I know he's the head of the label and Zed wouldn't speak bad of his employer, but George's tracks come off as less polished. Raw, even. This track in particular changes direction so frequently it seems as if it is a sketch pad. Yep, he even ventures into euphoric trance territory. Felt like I was in the club mix of the Man United fight song. Mark my words, he'll be governor of California one day. Stage 1 (Zed Reactor rmx10)- It takes 2 minutes before we get that nitzho fix but this was a bit of a miss for Mr. Zed. It just kinda...went. The lack of direction aside he starts to create a wall of sound and key changes at the end. It's Your Travel- With his last track George melds electronica with some techno industrial vibe. Like he threw Trent Reznor in the blender. Yeah take that you pretentious prick! Area 51 samples getting twisted and this one is a more moderate pace. Not a big fan. Seemed a big expanse of energy like his equipment had a last gasp. Yeah, better idea on paper, right? Life In the Deep- Final track and it sounds very detailed and organic. Something alive and crawling. Glitchy tendencies and deep bass pads. It says life in the deep but it could just as well be an alien land. Rocketing at drum n bass speed in a break beat style the isolated feeling kicks into high gear. The synths scream heading for a climax that never comes. It all just fades away. Loved the beginning, but it lost steam for me. Hit or miss. Tyrant Virus was the best track for me as it kept with the Zed Reactor theme. The rest had some good moments, but failed to stick with me.
