  1. Holy Crap this was good. Bay Hall Magic was just that, magic. On Area 51 I didn't really like the key change, but that is a minor nitpick for a powerful track. Fractal Rock City borrows some melody from Kiss' "Detroit Rock City" which is kinda cool but it doesn't really go anywhere. Red Road was released on Golden Vibes III and is a pretty good track with Native American influences. The Filteria remix at the end is a smasher! So all in all this was a great release that keeps the goa spirit alive and well. Well worth the money! :posford: Mdk
  2. I thought it was a full power, overdrive, kick you in the nuts, sledgehammer to the brain psytrance. Nothing that they haven't done before but it is done very well. As far as better full on albums, I would say U-Recken, just because it is deeper and more complex. But for straight power, Wizzy rules. :posford: Mdk
  3. Definitely going to be in the minority here, but I couldn't wait for this collage of noise to be over. I found no emotion in it nor a melody to follow. Just a collection of abrasive sounds with a drum 'n' bass backdrop. Having said that, it's just my taste. Even though I didn't like it, I can appreciate its complexity. For me this is not the kind of CD I can just put on and listen to. Mdk
  4. I hadn't really paid attention to U-recken before his latest album Deeper Into Man. Since that album gets my vote for best of the year, I decided to give this a try. Yaniv is a master at over the top melodies and breaks. He weaves a tapestry with his sounds that can harken back to the good old days. While not as deep as his latest, the production here is stellar. This to me is miles above your generic full on. The singing I could do without, but none of the tracks are unlistenable, and I think if you put this on, you could take a nice journey all the way through. As the reviewer said, the downtempo track is great, and I would love to see him do an ambient album. Very pleased with this. Mdk
  5. This is a great CD! So far my fav is Abyss. Massive, anthemic track. :posford: Mdk
  6. Very innovative. There were no over the top melodies that made you catch your breath, but one thing I really enjoyed was that there was no trace of cut and paste ideas here. Just when you figure you had the track figured out, bam! it goes in another direction. Great job. Mdk
  7. This was a pretty good EP. Fluoro Neuro Sponge is a classic and very driving. Like mentioned above, Astral Pancakes is a more laid back track. A very enjoyable listen. It's easy to see with this release, as well as the LSD EP and their 2 albums why Hallucinogen was arguably one of the best goa acts. Mdk
  8. Very foresty! The Derango track is superb! :posford: Mdk
  9. Agreed. The EsP project with their two albums have put out some outstanding acid insanity. Gets the blood flowing. Can't wait for the 3rd! Mdk
  10. What great news! I look forward to seeing how your sound has evolved. Now if we could only get a new Ethereal album in that damn pipeline! :posford: Mdk
  11. Nope, very true. I had never listened to any of his albums before. Of course I knew who he was, but I just never got around to listening to them. I enjoyed it for the most part. Sometimes it was a little too much for me, but I can see why people find new things in the music each time they hear it. Now on to Tales of the Inexpressible! :clapping: Mdk
  12. Amazing chill out ride. Favorites are 3,4,6,8,10,11, 13!!! That is the way to end a comp. Fade away into the setting sun. Bee yootiful Mdk
  13. Just listened to it a couple of times (after having never heard it) because I feel that is how you have to appreciate it. So thick and deep. So many layers that I couldn't get it all in just one or two listens. Not something I would reach for, and some of his sonic choices are a little odd and (gasp) annoying, but I have come to the church of Raja and had quite a nice visit! Mdk
  14. Where did you get that?!?!? How long has it been out? Mdk
  15. Well you can tell there is a lot of intricacy in this work. I wouldn't call it ambient so much as a "melange" of tempo changing downtempo and tribal trance. He really does mix a lot of genres together. I really liked the marching band sound in Divine Moments of Truth. Very tribal. And he ain't afraid of a didgeridoo, is he? Just when I thought that I wouldn't really care for a track, as it evolves, he pulls me in. There are so many layers that I think it requires numerous listens just to take it all in. So my verdict? Very interesting and complex. Music that you have to devote time to to appreciate it. I have ambient that I like a lot more (Ishq and Anahata) but this is like nothing else. This is not a relaxing journey like MOTY is. It's great if I have the time to delve into and want to experience, but not something that would make me say, "Man I need to listen to some Shpongle!" But I'm glad I finally got to listen to it, and I did enjoy it! :clapping: Mdk
  16. So true! You should see how grey the beard is getting! I don't know what took so long, I always knew it was there. Maybe I didn't listen to it because of all the hype that surrounds it. It couldn't possibly be that good, so why be disappointed? I'm on my third listen, and it is growing on me. Mdk
  17. Wow, umm....this is going to take a few repeated listens. Mdk
  18. Yep. Never heard a single track from his albums. I have Are You Shpongled? and am getting ready to see what all the fuss is about. Mdk
  19. I thought it was weird that this one started out Dub and Downtempo and then became a Progessive effort. Maybe not weird, but unexpected. The layering was good in and I would give it a solid 4/5. A couple of great tracks, some good ones, and whatever the hell that last one was. I can easily see the talent here. Mdk
  20. This CD is massive. Pure brilliance. So much so that it makes me want to listen to a lot more ambient trance and downtempo. Aes Dana, Asura, and CBL here I come! Mdk
  21. I sense this artist is right on the cusp of greatness. The tracks are good and really set an atmosphere, but like Abasio said, I would like to see further development with the songs. Exotic, I am liking that one too! Damn, ambient is ruling over psy right now! Mdk
  22. Oh, I really liked this one! Especially since I am enamored with the grandeur and mystery of mountains. I can get the Himalayan feel right out of the gate with peaks that reach skyward with snow capped apexes, and a sense of being a stranger as I arrive at base camp. It's rather warm as I swat the flies from my brow. Farmers ply their trade as children scurry across the path. It seems an odd peace here, as I know that as I ascend Mount Kailish difficult times are ahead. As if on cue, a storm rolls in but I cannot delay any longer. The pace is slow, but steady. The storm passes and the brightness of the sun gives me courage. Making good time, I decide to rest and unleash the powers of the magic herb so that I can see. Light beams carry visions of mountain vistas as far as the eye can see. Mountain goats and big horn sheep climb the slopes with no effort. After several minutes (although it felt like hours) I sense the presence at the top and it strengthens my resolve. I take a quick meal of bread and cheese and continue the journey. Nourished, I no longer seem to touch the ground. My steps are light and I glide across the barely there trails. And then I see it. The structure is impossibly massive. And equally ancient. The air is clean here, almost bitingly clean. Struggling for breath, I see runes written along the gate, in a language I can not possibly know. As the temperature falls, I make my way past the gate and am met by a creature 12 feet tall with white fur covering his entire body. I tense, ready for attack, but realize this is what I seek. He is truly impressive, but what is really amazing are his eyes. A thousand lifetimes have been lived, with the experience and wisdom that come with it. He ushers me towards a spiraling staircase that is incredibly tortuous. 100 steps, 500, 1000. As we climb ever higher, I am treated to more snow capped peaks. Creatures that cannot possibly exist fly deftly by on pink wind currents. I taste the scent of jasmine ripe on the air. We are impossibly high and I begin to wonder if this journey will ever end. As we finally reach the summit, he escorts me to a dais with a myriad of pools inset into the structure. Each a different color. Blue, red, green, yellow...We sit across from one another and the Yeti sprinkles matching powders into each pool, causing smoke of the same hue to emanate forth. I feel light headed, but I see with a clarity I have never known. Soon we are joined by beings that are humanoid in form, and they speak without talking. They tilt their heads, eyes boring into my very soul. They seem to be able to grab the smoke, manipulate it into shapes, giving me a window into my world. I see hordes of the dead, victims of some massacre. Men, women and children, it doesn't matter how old. As each soul falls, there is an impossible shadow, floating in an ethereal plane, lovingly reaching for the fallen human. They are not there to torment, but to guide, to bring them to this other plane. The next vision I see is otherworldly. A bridge impossibly long and high traversing an ocean so aquamarine, you would think it was as if topaz stones fell from the sky for a millenia. The souls march happily through a massive stone gate as the sun sits low in the horizon. I am looking from above, but soaring towards the people, with great speed. As I feel I am to surely collide, I now have the perspective of one walking that long beautiful promenade. As I turn to look back, the Yeti bows and makes his way back down the stairs. Wow, what a great ride this CD was. Mdk
