  1. you guys need to clean your ears..
  2. oh shit ty tek is a local DJ from Denver where I live.. he plays tech and prog. house - and yeah that's his track. lol. never though i'd see it on a psytrance forum.
  3. perhaps.. but honestly I think it's a lot more complex than the first album. I went through several phases with it - totally LOVED it the first oh, I don't know, four or five listens, then got tired of it, too familiar - it started to bore me. Then i decided (well, someone else convinced me) to play it one morning after a party. It sounded different now, fuller - I felt as though it began to truly unfold. I listened to it twice that morning, the second time I finally felt I was getting past the facade, and into the depths of it. And there was still so much I knew I was missing - there's so much information in this one.. damn. It has true depth, such a rare thing these days. But I don't know, maybe I'm imagining it all.
  4. hmm.. top 10, it's been a while. not necessarily the newest stuff, but some of the tracks that i'd been playing this spring/summer/fall: for special crowds: 1. matutero - pure evil 2. metalaxis - time 3. bodhisattva 13:20 - thought invasion 4. penta - eater of worlds 5. fractal cowboys - ghandi on acid for fuzzier crowds: 1. onnomon - bjork (orig. and tech rmx) 2. rev - dunky funk 3. broken toy - toys just want to have fun 4. e-jekt - good old days 5. kybalion - crazy creatures
  5. looks good.. also don't forget the excellent compilations from Psyristor and Horns and Hoofs records - more on the techy side, though. And the stuff by Weird Walker as well.
  6. all those mentioned are really nice releases.. would love to hear more in this vein, techy glitchy dark proggy stuff in the vein of Spirallianz - Stereopark. Still one of the best albums of all time.
  7. Unbelievable album. Best thing I'd heard in many moons. but def. have to be in the right mood. oh yeah. then just close your eyes and.... ...you'll see.
  8. nah, they just have a semblance of taste, that's all.. and been listening to this music long enough to be able to tell that some stuff is umm.. not all that. though for some reason they still like that crappy Theta Frequencies comp. btw, ever hear v/a Boldly Audio from Sanaton records? if you ever need to check your ears..
  9. eh, just buy a pair of used CDJ-100s on Ebay, they go for real cheap right now, and a small Behringer mixer. then use your pc to record. cooledit is the shiznat.
  10. Ketuh is not very dark either, imo. as for labels, Sanaton, Apoxina, Schlabbaduerst, StoneAge, Parvati (!!!), Vertigo, and Mistress of Evil.. if you want serious psychedelic music, check those out.. if you're looking for dark energetic full-on, Ketuh, Timecode, Kagdila, etc. should be up your alley.
  11. eh.. dark, pounding, minimal... can I say 'cok-psy'? the new penta album and the upcoming procs and derango look great, tho.
  12. It's the sound that makes the Rane stand out. The levels, and especially the EQing compensation is pretty much perfect. Allen and Heath does it well, too, but the Rane seemed a lot softer, more refined when mixing - the sounds just melt into one another. But yeah, the A&H has more features, though ones that I would probably never use.
  13. dude, i've played on at least 15 different models of CD players, and if you know how to use them, they all work just fine. Even my friends 10-year-old Stantons will hold pitch totally fine. The jog wheel might feel a bit different than the Pioneers, but you can get used to it pretty fast. I've never played on the Geminis, so can't tell you about those. But Numarks, Stanton, Tascam, Denon, Pioneer, American DJs, those are all pretty functional CD decks, imo. I am not a big fan of the Numark low-end Axis 2 decks, but then I've played full sets on them and they worked okay..
  14. I guess certain mixers are more locale-oriented, like Rodec - I've never seen a Rodec mixer in the US, though I've heard good things. Pioneer 600 (and the similar Pioneer 3000) are a good buy for the money. Any CD player will do you fine - Numarks are pretty good, actually. but Pioneer is the industry standard, and the CDJ-100 is the easiest one to use if, say, you had one drink too many.
  15. oh god, please don't buy a Numark or Behringer or Pioneer mixer if you aren't trying to save money, you'll be kicking yourself later. Recent Behringer products aren't very good - my roommate's started buzzing after 6 months. I've had mine for 5 years, but I wouldn't plug it into anything but my home setup. High-end Numarks that cost upward of $700 like this are okay, but why get Numark if you can get a Rane? Ranes have been the standard high-end club mixers for year and years. This: http://www.rane.com/mp44.html is absolutely the best mixer I've ever played on. Better than the Allen and Heath XZone 62, (i haven't played on XZone 92 yet), light years past Pioneer 600 (which is okay if you can't afford better, but the EQs and sound quality are kind of shitty, that's why high-profile clubs with nice sound systems don's use them anymore. 2 cents.. ps - for CD players, I'd go with Pioneer CDJ 800s or 1000s, or CXM-3000s. Don't like the CDJ-200s at all. The Denon table-top CD decks are really nice also, from what I hear, but I haven't played with them yet.
  16. the AC/DC remix is a laugh riot, i've played it a few times just to lighten the mood. the crowd noise, the guitar riff, it's hilarious shit. The Hey Boy/Hey Girl remix by Wrecked Machines is okay, too. nice to play early in the morning, lots of people have powerful emotional connections to that song, i've seen people cry when i played it. Billie Jean is a decent remix.. the other ones are for the most part awful.
  17. funny this is coming from you - i understand you play mostly very psychedelic scandinavian stuff, i am sure you know it would sound horrible if even 2 derango tracks were to play together at the same time. i once heard a high-energy full-on psy set played by 2 highly experienced DJs on 4 CD players, and it sounded awful. Really noisy, jarring, ear-splitting sounds, total chaos, no story to speak of, i had to run away. and everything was perfectly beatmatched, btw. I used to DJ drum n bass years ago, so i learned how to drop and cut and fuck around with vinyl, but for me DJing psy isn't so much about mixing tricks, more about the journey and seamless transitions. i don't know, maybe with minimal prog and full-on all the techno tricks could be useful. Not really holding my breath to hear that one, though.
  18. some larger welding generators will require a power conditioner if you want to clean the power/run sound on it. but if you are using smaller generators - anything under 20-25 kWatt - you should be fine. Now don't forget to bring gasoline cans and to check the oil levels before you start it up. but don't quote me on anything.
  19. you can make ANYTHING difficult. Try brushing your teeth with your eyes closed, while standing on one leg, and singing in Italian. and if you notice, this is a beginning-DJ thread, not 'how to trainwreck techno and still be cool' discussion.
  20. you disagree totally with what? it gets easier with time. give it maybe 3-4 years of constant practice and playing out to become totally comfortable with the music, the equipment, and the crowd. your home crowd, that is.
  21. @sundrop eh.. i dunno dude, mixing house into psytrance sets can work if it's in a club setting but if you pull that shit at a psy party, you might ruin the vibration. remember, psytrance isn't all about making people dance, it's about taking people on a journey through music. and dude, mixing ANYTHING is easy. on turntables or CD players, with math or by ear, House, Psytrance, DnB, Breaks, whatever. Beatmatching and mixing skills are prerequisites for DJing. If it's still hard for you, you need more practice, simple as that.

    Gi'wa?

eh, maybe if you spelled the name properly, you would find it. try http://www.giiwa.com/home.htm
  23. Beatmixing is easy with math or without math. It's the easiest part of DJing. Period. DJ Mylo - it's pretty obvious when someone is using only the 0.7 method and not relying on their ears enough. especially noobs. super-easy to tell. and there will be many many times when the math is useless. if you're playing a very fast set, or a slow set, for example. 144 is not always appropriate, I can give you a million examples when I had to slow the music down to 135, still playing full-on psytrance. in which case the math is pretty useless. i agree with you on the rest - the music, the flow, the feeling, the EQs, the proper mixing are just as important. then you get to crowd control, up and down flow, taking people deeper and bringing them out. there's lots of things to keep in mind, always.
  24. eh, it should work, logically speaking, but it doesn't. on some CD decks you have to nudge the damn thing all the time, and it's always the ones with the 6% or 12% or 16% pitch shift. i think it has to do with the pitch stretching mechanism, the 0.1% on a 6% pitch slider is a slightly different, maybe a bit wider range than on a +-10%. anyway, I don't farking know, it's just what i've noticed. you go try it, tell me if it works for you. it's a possibility i may have been hallucinating all these years. and yes, while most new tracks are on a full BPM, there are quite a few that are on half bpm or even 144.33333 type thing. so yeah, use your ears, trainwreckers, don't trust the math all the time because it won't work all the time, and if you trainwreck once, that's once too much. anyway, learn how to beatmatch without using the math because you should be able to hear the beats and tell the speed instantly without looking at the display - if you want people to think you're a DJ and not a wanker that is.
  25. Some CD players have the jog wheel that spins.. CDJ 1000s or Denon table top players have that function. Also, not all CD players have the master tempo/key control function. There are so many different brands of DJ CD decks, while Pioneers are the most common ones, there are other good ones that have different ways of setting cues, fast forwarding/searching, etc.
