  1. Amithaba Buddha - Uncharted Planet Love this one...
  2. Here's what I don't get about certain comments people make about goa... Why must new music always be something completely different, unique, ground breaking, or anti-formulaic? There's only so much that can be done within a certain framework. Filipe knows and understands the nuances of musical composition within this style so well that everything he makes is EXACTLY what I want to hear and what I would hope goa sounds like when I go to buy a new album. I don't care if I've heard something similar before, even from track to track on the same album. His music is so mystical, powerful, and I feel the story he's telling in each track which was definitely created with love and brilliance. I don't know Filipe, likely never will, don't care about if he's a "model citizen" or anti-social and rebellious (don't know if he's either of these or anywhere in between), but he has passion for the music he's creating and I can hear it, every time, in every track. I will continue to buy and listen to his music without even sampling beforehand because I love it. The production and mastering quality on this album is very smooth, full of breadth and depth, even though the balance and layer volumes could be more delicately structured instead of just full-on facesmashing , but I enjoy that too. Filipe could develop more when crafting each sound/instrument, with more variation and effects, but that would possibly take away from the raw power that the already complicated and beautiful melodies deliver, don't know. I don't produce this style of music so I'm not an expert. Overall, fantastic album. If I'm the only person that loves it, too bad. I'd welcome an invite to Filipe's studio to even just go and give him a high five, see what he's working on next, have a tea and say goodbye. Felipe please keep doing what you're doingias long as you love it, and love the sounds you make. I know I sure do, and I appreciate your contribution to the musical universe.
  3. I’ve owned this for years now and it still finds playtime on my system. One of my favorite little Easter eggs of this album is that there are several teases of the last track, Always a Way Back Up, at the end or start of several of the previous tracks. I still haven’t heard anything else out there that’s quite this style of music, and a talented producer Matt and his crew are indeed to make something so timeless.
  4. Wow. This album is a gem. I've owned Pan Electric's "Conscious Pilot" for years before hearing this album (even though that came out before this), and I must say this album is equally blissful. I can clearly hear both artists’ influences peppered throughout each track, and enjoyed the interweaving of their styles. There’s superlative production value and sound quality with such effortless creativity. There are so many little details, nuances, and surprises in each track that add to the imagery and depth which are already fantastic without them. Here’s hoping to a second collaboration between these two in the future!!!
  5. Scintillating downtempo "Goa" with an Eastern flare. Every detail has been carefully considered, creatively inspired, and masterfully implemented to create a wonderfully rich, vivacious, and enveloping sonic atmosphere with the highest of production calibres. If you don't own this, you're really missing out on something special. Thank you for the extremely touching music!!
  6. Can't wait for this. Your music is and always has been superlative. Too bad all the sound cloud links are busted... keep us posted.
  7. Do you like goa? Do you like blissful layers of middle eastern harmonies interwoven within a complex framework of exceptional composition? Do you like to feel the music you listen to? Look no further... this album is everything you want. This is pure goa. I've never been one to give a track by track review of an album because each album should be a mystical journey to explore with your mind, without any precent. Get a copy of this album before you can't find it anymore... fantastic work Filipe. I will also be in line for whatever you produce next as I am a fan for life.
  8. Beautiful album. Some stronger tracks than others, but that's the same with ANY album. Overall a wonderful compilation of goa exactly the way I like it. Keep it coming Suntrip!!!
  9. This album is absolutely wonderful. This is the best album I've purchased in quite a while. If you like goa, if you like psychedelic, if you like MUSIC... this album is for you. Amithaba Buddha makes sinfully good tracks, and being the highlight of the album for me (yes I'm biased toward his sounds), I would have purchased it just for the one track! Bravo. More please! =D +100
  10. Wow. Wow. Why is it that finally after listening to psy/goa for about 15 years that FINALLY there are albums coming out where I get to hear EXACTLY what I've been craving in the "genre" for so long? I'm so elated that I get to hear albums of this caliber. Production quality is astonishing, creativity is abundant, and the music just blows my mind. My thanks go out to the universe!!!!
  11. I heard Inner Poison on Goatronika, and I was very, very impressed. This album doesn't disappoint. Brilliant. Long live GOA!!!
  12. Wow, just wow. Having watched the Final Fantasy movie when it came out, and thinking - well this is good, but it still looks like some weird CG adaptation of what a natural organic lifeforms look like to my eyes - compared to the stunning magnificence that is Avatar, I think you have to be the only one. I'm not sure where your bias is coming from, but even just comparatively this movie isn't even in the same league as every other CG animation ever created to date, period. On another note, this movie is splendiferous. I went in actually thinking, this movie isn't going to be very good, and I had quite a bias myself against 3D CG, and it just blew my expectations into the cosmos. I was so stunned by this movie, that it restored a bit of my faith in the movie industry. What a beautiful musical score too Mr. Horner!! I go to movies (and VERY few at that) to be entertained, stunned, encapsulated, and lost in whatever world I'm thrown into. If the movie doesn't grip and demand my attention that way, it's not good. This movie not only was visually jaw-dropping, but it had a very magical and yet somewhat tangible and believable aspect to it. Who cares what plot similarities it has with other movies (which movies don't these days?), what formulaic patterns it followed, what practicabilities it had - doesn't matter. In fact, the less you think of that and focus on the present moment, the more you'll enjoy movies and life in general. Must see, beyond any doubt. Avatar - thank you for allowing me to escape into a non drug-induced blissful dream.
  13. This album is excellent on the whole. However, this CD could be purchased solely for Asura - Crossroads Limiter. This track just whisks you away to a spiritual place where only you and sound exist together in harmony. I love the Eastern influences laden throughout, and this is why it seems to be otherworldly for the listener when "ancient" sounds are combined with cutting edge production and ambiance. I think this is one of the finest pieces I have heard by Asura to date, and that's saying a lot given the fine music that's been produced beforehand. It could have culminated into a more powerful ending, but instead it hypnotically lowers you gently back to your consciousness. I'll accept that even though I felt a bit let down that it didn't, however it could have dwindled on the beautiful voice a bit longer before progressing as that moment was so rich and pure I didn't want it to end. Anyway, the other standouts for me were Zymosis - Summer Twilight, and Ra - Tears Of Fire. But bravo Altar for releasing yet another wonderful addition to this magical series you've created that seemed to stumble out of nowhere.
  14. Did anything get released in August or am I just out of the loop? Really looking forward to this... =D
  15. This album is spectacular. I think Oopie is stuck in time perhaps, as musical tastes change over the course of years of listening experiences. The semantics of 'psychedelic' versus 'goa' can be debated until the end of time. I think this album is a fantastic hybridization of the 'two' styles, and this was a masterfully produced, enjoyable listen from start to finish. I think Billy has a lot of diversity while staying connected with the same theme of the album, and his own sense of style. I enjoyed Psychedelica Melodica, but I found this to be much better with less 'cheesy' interferences. Sure, I liked Synergy and Cosmology a lot, but in 2009 I enjoyed this album more than I can enjoy the older albums now. That's a combination of how many times I've listened to the old albums, and how 'old' the sound is now in comparison with the fresh sounding current albums. Anyway, this album really tickled my senses and I have become quite addicted to it. That means it's a very powerful album. While this might not be the sounds that everyone on the planet Earth wants to hear, my brain tells me this is what I prefer to bask within. Cheers to a 9.5/10 album (only because I didn't care for Samba Del Gringo that much). =)
  16. 30 miles is like a drive across town where I live!!!! HD 800's available mid august.
  17. Okay first off I have to say I have loved every track I've ever heard from this amazing artist. When can I expect to hear more? Was there a debut album ever released on Phototropic? I have heard of an album called "Goa Gate" but can't seem to find it to buy anywhere. I kind of enjoyed the Pandemonium release, but it's not the classic "old-school" goa that I've come to love with the Amithaba Buddha releases. But for the record, Amithaba Buddha is one of the best acts in "new" goa that I have heard in the last 5 years. I'm dying for more! Helios - Loving Phototropic and Suntrip releases!!!!!! **edit - found the album for sale on some obscure websites, couldn't find the link on the photoropic website without searching google for some reason. Why isn't this available on psyshop or saikosounds???
  18. Sennheiser HD650's, enough said. They can be augmented greatly if you have the cash too - here's what I'm running: Sennheiser HD650 Cardas Audio Cables Pro-Ject Head Box SE II http://www.headphone.com/products/headphon...anced-cable.php http://www.project-audio.com/main.php?prod...ies&lang=en
  19. <3 Infinitium!!!!! This was an exceptional release, and considering it's free there isn't any reason you shouldn't listen to this. Very pleasantly surprised, and will definitely recommend this to friends.
  20. Neither. He asked me what kind of music I listened to, I told him, then he asked to hear it. Now that he's heard it, I'm trying to explain the difference because his statement was "that's just trance". We started discussing it and I couldn't really explain the difference between all other types of trance and goa/psy in a way he understood. I'm not trying to influence him verbally - I let the music do that. =D
  21. Well I'd like to post on this one. I didn't discover this site until much after I had the CD, but I was the 3rd one to post on this album way back when. Yes, internet exposure certainly wasn't there back then. I remember the only way I could even find "goa" which I didn't even know what that was really back then, was to go to A&B Sound (availability in Canada was SOOOOOO hard to come by back then), pick 3 random cd's from their "electronic" section (you were only allowed to open 3 cds to listen at a time), and listen to them and see if I even liked 1 or 2 tracks on the CD, then I would buy it because finding a track I loved after sifting through all the garbage was like finding gold. I was looking for a specific sound, didn't know what, but when I heard it, I knew. When I found this album and put it on I was like, OMFG wow!!! And to be honest, it took quite a few years for me to like and appreciate more than 3 tracks on this album. But was it ever worth the hundreds of listens in the CD player let me tell you that! I still play it now and again, and the longer it's been since I last heard the tracks, the more connected and blown away I am by it, time and time again. That's replay value for you. In 2006/2007 I had a period in my life where I couldn't listen to ANY music for 4 months! What a horrifying experience that was. And let me tell you something, when I finally had the chance to listen to music again, the second CD I loaded up in my collection of hundreds was Chroma City. CYANid took me for a trip I can't even begin to describe, but my face just about split apart from one of the biggest smiles I've ever had. I heard it again for the first time, literally. PLEASE find a good label to release your new tracks on! =D
  22. This has probably been said somewhere already as I haven't read through all the posts, but remember when it was released, what the world was like then, and what music was available in electronic music in general, let alone this specific genre. It was very unique at that time, and I'm sure good drugs had a lot to do with its effect on people as well. Listening to it now would of course give you a different perspective of it.
  23. Oh god there's soooo many of them since that's my specialty and focus in the whole genre anyway. But at this moment ones that have come into my head are: Ra - Sign Of Life Jaia - Rebirth Radical Distortion - The Dreamer Colorbox - CYANid Infected Mushroom - Dancing With Kadafi Jaia - Breathing Ocean Tandu - Rodeo Talamasca - Strangers [Feat. Xerox & Domestic] Dado [Deedrah] - Goa Sunrise Shakta & Moonweed - Micronesia MFG - Overload Astral Projection - Dancing Galaxy Solar Plexus - Kalieda Trilithon - One World, One Future I could go on all day, literally. <3 <3 <3 goa/psy !!!!
  24. Some great replies here! I should probably add that I recently made him a very "coloured" CD in which the tracklisting is as follows. I want to nurse him into the genre and haven't put too much crazy psychedelic and/or dark psy into the mix yet because sometimes people are put off by those sounds, as they are very hard to understand and discern if you're new to the sound. If I had listened to some tracks for the first time I discovered goa/psy I may have been turned off and went elsewhere with my musical tastes for those exact reasons. I mean if I had given him the album, Toidoi - Technologic (not to say this is an exceptional or standout album of the time; merely to compare a drastic style to a subgenre).... and those that own this album, like myself, they know damn well the humour in what I just stated (hehehe), I'm sure he would have recognized the difference between that and Tiesto And yes like you Apsyd, since I'm in North America as well. That is exactly how non-learned listeners would refer to ALL electronic music... it's all techno. I don't even bother talking about music to those people however because it's like talking to a brick wall. It's sad, but that's how it goes. Anyway, for the purposes of this thread, I've started the introduction of this music to my friend by playing slightly less abstract tracks and instead given more eastern harmonic oriented music, and very much more melodic goa than what I consider psy. So if explanations could focus on an explanation of the more goa side of the goa/psy universe I'd really appreciate it. But of course I like reading about the whole shebang only because I've been a goa/psy freak for nearly 15 years! :posford: Here's the tracklist of the CD I gave him just so you can see where I'm coming from, and what he's been influenced by. As an aside, the first track he ever listened to of goa was Ra's new 9th track, Octagon. 1 - Logic Bomb - The Third Revelation 2 - Cosmosis - No Such Thing [Throb Factor Five Mix] 3 - Logic Bomb - Videodrome 4 - Jaia - Brainstorm [Live Mix] 5 - Digicult - Awaken The Dream 6 - Logic Bomb - Vector 7 - Jaia - Rebirth 8 - Logic Bomb - Ansi 9 - Miranada - Mars Needs Women [lolz] As you can see this is a very narrow scope, biased at that, of goa/psy but I find that at first listen, especially from someone who's used to listening to commercial trance, that they are more receptive if there are similarities to what they're used to hearing, versus something that's completely different and off the wall psychedelic. And sorry for giving him the last track... it's not really goa/psy at all but it still pounds... heheh Also, *edit* I think he listened to it in is work truck, whereas I listen to music either on my ridiculously audiophile inclined stereo system (I'm not going to brag about what I have) or on my ridiculous headphone system, guilty as charged being an audiophile, so maybe that's part of the misunderstanding as well. Anyway, thanks for the replies! Look forward to more! (How about you Anoebis or Mars!)
