Contest — Reproducing known melodies from scratch

@Monahium: If you're searching for a VSTi, I suggest Audiorealism ABL2, as suggested by PharaOm. If you're searching for a second-hand synth, beside a x0xb0x or a x0xi0, I suggest maybe a Dœpfer MS-404, or a TeeBee Syntecno. More here (in the "You Might Also Like" section) and here.

@PharaOm: Nice creation! What is NWbassline? (I didn't find it on the Internet). Looks like a TB emulator

We're having a lot of fun here! And we're practicing and sharpening our ears :)

i'm running on a mac :*(. I'll have to make due without one

I have never created such a sound. What is it? Band-pass filter? High-pass filter? Supersaw? Overdrive?

Sounds like a single oscillator saw wave with a phaser. Maybe 2 oscillators.

Back to the OP:

http://www.veracohr....rs-Veracohr.wav

I did this:

- Matched the tempo

- Filtered out low and high end from the audio so I could hear the lead better

- Dialed up a simple single-oscillator PWM sound on the PEK

- Located the root note and recorded/inserted notes, all at the root note, to match the pattern

- Listened over and over, moving notes about to get the proper pitches

- Adjusted the synth sound to match the best I could. I ended up with one PWM oscillator, a little noise and a little distortion

It's a 24-bit file, does your player have a problem with that? Maybe I'll replace it with a 16-bit version when I get home.

I just had to launch it on another browser. silly me

thanks! i used your suggestion as a starting point. i guess one could come quite close with some tweaking of the waveform and the right choice of distortion (tried logic's and zebra's filters. only the vintage2 sounded moderately good) and reverb.

and a small tip if anyone wants to try something similar: melodyne was a godsend when trying to figure out the pitch bends.
