2006 SUCKS so far for psytrance!

I mean, is anyone not disappointed? Thank God for other genre's...seriously...or I'd be listening to elevator music. Going up? :P

I bought one 2006 album this year. I like it, alot. But that's it.

What the hell is up with all the shitty psytrance releases? I know most of the releases suck anyway in all genres it seems convienient to say but WHERE ARE THE GREAT RELEASES???

It's FREEKIN MAY ALREADY. The year is half over. What is up with most of these record labels producing the same boring stuff, noise, dance club trance??? How can they keep making money when almost every other psytrance label is promoting and releasing the same thing??? They can't forever. New ideas and inventions must come out or people will stop buying!

It saves me money from spending, (coz I'm not buying) great!

Two of the few albums I look forward to this year is TALPA'S and KA-SOL from Sun. All the other talents seem depressing and to have lost the magic in their so called COMEBACK. Like MFG isn't bad...but it's not half as great and imaginative and fun as their first 4 albums.

Do we have a new YOUNG BROTHER album? I don't know...something unqiue, yes...PROMETHEUS is dropping a new album this year...that should be pleasing to listen to if it releases this year and the best albums seem to come out the last 3-4 months of the year at least. Better for Christmas sales I assume. :)

Most artists KICKDRUM, generic, *REPETITIVE*, less imaginative and ambitous sound BORES me to death. It's not us on these boards as much as it's people across the world who are unaware of the really great psy/goa trance that seems rarely produced now days.

Good full on or bad full on...none of it is THAT GOOD to me so far in 2006, and I'm not totally against FULL ON either...this isn't a personal attack, I just had to get this out of my system.

Does anyone else concur or is it just me...that 2006 has been an EXTREMEMLY lackluster year for psytrance, trance, etc.. thus far.

2004 was the last year that I remember being good IMHO and even 2005 had more kickass releases in it's first 6 months I think.

After checking the reviews here from 2006 I've found several albums that are a must have for me (for my taste of course):

Synsun, Protoculture, MFG, Filteria, U-Recken, then there's the new Tip Compilation everybody here talks about and somre more stuff not even mentioned here. Plus the prog releases I can't really judge. I myself can't complain...

Jon Coco, you SHOULD check out Peace Therapy 2, a wonderful goaish downtempo and ambient compilation, it won't dissapoint!

Next week Puoskari will be released as well, I wanted to buy Oxycanta, Electric Elves and the last TIP as well, can't really complain so far :) There were worse moments! :)

Agreed. I've bought 4 psy albums and around 40 non-psy albums in 2006. From those, I love 90% of the non-psy albums and only 25% (1) of the psy albums.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's constantly let down and disappointed by today's psy and was beginning to wonder if I was the only psynews member who's hearing is still intact.

Where's Cinos when we really need him? He was an expert at negativity and would have contributed greatly to this thread. People like that are essential in overly positive and optimistic crowds, they have a role to play and play it well.

While we're bitching, can you stop reviewing albums when all you have are the 4 minute long low-quality samples from the online shops?

Ha-ha! Fantastic request. I second this request!

No-one here reviews an album based on samples, surely?

Psy Trance sucks

529496[/snapback]

Wise words :)

And when it sucks as hard as it does, it's the perfect time for exploring other genres and/or buying some older gems you may have missed out on, it's that simple. I, for one, stopped buying new stuff some time in 2002. Yet, there are still enough releases from recent years for me to check out, so it doesn't have to be that old to be good ;) . The album Pavel listened to last is a good example.

hah well I'm lucky enough to have bought a HUGE pile of records and CDs mostly with old trance from the early 90s... so for now I'm too busy discovering lost gems on B-sides to be bothered about 2006 releases anyway :P

What about those of us who discovered the tracks you mention during the 90's? We're left with today's dribbling nonsense to entertain us.

First off, I thank all of you for your comments/recommendations. Whether you agree with me or not...it's interesting to hear different views. Here are my current returns:

and of course new CHI-AD

Say, what? That would be a a huge surprise. My only concern is that if Earth Crossing was never released, they probably changed their style or sound so a new album (?) get released...I hope this change is from something great...to something else great, even if it isn't their oldskool goatrance which I love.

Krelmatrix: Your post is hilarious.

Anoebis... Big thanks for making me aware of Peace Therapy 2. I didn't know about it until now. The artist list impresses me with AES DANA, CHI-A.D. KHETZAL, GOASIA, and more...deff got my attention and I will buy this comp. The samples sound very good and I really like this. :)

We don't need your positivity polluting this thread, thank you.

lol...

Nice. Thank you for that. ;) I presume this comment is directed to me because I've written impressions on a handful of albums before based on the 4 minute samples. I would never write a full review OR score an album unless I heard it in it's entirety...that means I own it. I always say "These are impressions based on samples" or "The following is not a review," when I toss some thoughts and aspects I liked or disliked. The last impression by me would be on Loopus 2006 album. There is no grade...but I wanted to share brief thoughts because ppl have an idea whether they like or dislike something when they sample an album. That's how most ppl choose whether to buy or not. I don't write reviews based on samples and I rarely [currently] write impressions anymore. I'm not interested. If I feel passionate enough about an album...I'll write a solid, thoughtful review...reason why they're so damn long. See Filteria 2006 Heliopolis, and Khetzal from 2005 (end of thread) several examples of a review by me, NOT impressions which I always say in the post. I own albums I review, hence the grade/score at the end and I'll be careful in the future to not jump on an album coz I didn't love the samples. Other ppl write impressions too occasionally, difference is most of them do not admit that on their short posts. See Filteria: Heliopolis thread for evidence.

Ha-ha! Fantastic request. I second this request!

And thank you for encouraging him, :P:D
