  1. Maiia303 Sleepless Nights In Anjuna Mystic Sound Records Tracklist: 1. Electric Particles 2. Sleepless Nights In Anjuna 3. Sunset Glitter Funky breakbeat set to some lovely goa and one track that has become my favorite in this young year are the highlights of Maiia303's "Sleepless Nights In Anjuna" EP. The "Electric Particles" opener is fun but the "Sunset Glitter" conclusion is better. On that ending track, mastered oh-so-well by the great Edward Cybered, exciting musical twists-and-turns abound but it is the old-school, funky breakbeat style set to goa that makes the track a great one. Still, for as good as "Sunset Glitter" is it cannot stand with the title track. With no hesitation whatsoever I pick "Sleepless Nights In Anjuna" as my favorite track here in 2015, an instant classic to my ears, a track where a lot of thrilling things happen but all are delivered with smooth, assured narration. Maiia303 takes deliciously funky, ass-bouncing old-school breakbeat and turns it loose inside a goa playground of sound. Never once does this talented producer allow her sounds to become overly complex, as one minute it is an awesome dancefest, the next it is goa bliss filled with epic and soaring melodies but with each element having its own chapter until the thrilling finale brings the elements together for one absolutely superb conclusion. It's the sort of track one hopes to hear at a Sunday morning gathering, where the grooves are measured so well and are so invigorating and soothing that it feels like one's energy could hold up to these levels of dancing for hours. It helps to have so much imagination and good taste contained in one six-minute package. "Sleepless In Anjuna" is a very good EP but it is an absolutely stellar track. I'm completely smitten with it! 5. JaraLuca Perpetuum Mobile Neogoa Tracklist: 1. Existence 2. Perpetuum Mobile 3. Galaxicity 4. Minds Circus 5. Insomnia 6. Uncontrolled 7. Solaris 8. Emptiness First and foremost, this cover art is awesome, probably my favorite so far by Richpa, symbolic for the sounds, open to interpretation for meaning, kinetic visuals that just leap out. My take is JaraLuca is the brain at the center shooting his goa energy into the open brains of the listeners located on either side of his creative stem. Once attached to the synapse of the listener the pure-white energy (or is that steam from these red-hot productions) are released into the universe to do, well, whatever great energy does once us humans have had our fill of it. I like the cover concept, a lot, and there must be a number of interpretations there but the important thing is that it enhances the music quite a bit if you're puzzling over it while tuned in to these sounds. "Existence," the title track, "Galaxicity," "Minds Circus" and "Uncontrolled" are rollicking numbers, full bodies of sound with great levels in each. Unfortunately, as of yet, I have had a tough time breaking these tracks down and appreciating the details because it is too easy to get swept up in the energy and stomp a few moments of your day away. And that is not a bad thing, as it means I'll hear these tracks a few more times before things slow down enough to get at the lower levels of them. What I love about "Perpetuum Mobile" (an Italian and Portugese musical term for perpetual motion, a very fitting album title) are "Insomnia" and "Emptiness." I'm a sucker for beautiful female voices and the snippets in "Insomnia" add a level of enjoyment not to be found, as of yet, in any other track on the album. Too, the big, broad trance melodies are a lot of fun among all these crazy-good effects and fire-in-its-step rhythms. "Emptiness" is the psychedelic down tempo conclusion and a damn fine ending it is. Lovely, lush, relaxing with just enough energy to keep things moving forward nicely and those syncopated melodies are drop-dead gorgeous. No problems getting into all the details of this one and it will surely get a lot of play and mindfulness in my collection. The thing I hate about "Perpetuum Mobile" is "Solaris," it is off-the-chain crazy, holy-shit intense, the type of musical recklessness that gets me too hyped up and makes me feel like I could run through a wall. And I like my walls, they have pretty and interesting things hanging on them. Perhaps one day, though, I'll be fortunate enough to have something as intriguing as this cover art hanging there. Good release! Available for free play or download at http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/jaraluca-perpetuum-mobile/attachment/jaraluca-perpetuum-mobile () Edit: One thing that occurred to me is the similarities between this one, "Perpetuum Mobile," and Celestial Intelligence's "Perpetual Energy" that is also out this year. Very similar album titles, very similar go-for-it approach to goa. This one is fine but Celestial Intelligence is better because it has more fascinating layers and details in their tracks.
  6. Ion Vader Expansion Timewarp Tracklist: 1. For Deg 2. Ajjna featuring Root 3. Trip To Nowhere A very solid EP with some great ideas, some great energy and some great results. "For Deg" gets very old-school for its first three minutes. Actually, the track gets pre-old school, with Ion Vader playing around with some distorted echoes that sound like they could have been sampled from a Third Eye or FSOL album. When the track gets down to business it does so on a driving, dance-friendly full-on bass that works ridiculously well with all the fun goa effects and layers that are being pieced together. A great opener that never loses its focus despite how many different ideas and approaches are being utilized. "Ajjna" is more a slow-burner but no less effective. Chirpy goa effects and intermittent crow calls (and one pretty cool lion roar at the very end) crop up between some fascinating chant samples, good tempos and more delightful layers. Nicely done when Ion Vader takes the brakes off late in the track and lets the energy spill forth for a moment or two. "Trip To Nowhere" is a misnomer - this a trip to somewhere very fast! As conclusions go this one is a blazer, pure goa excitement through-and-through. Props again to the producer for keeping things very interesting as layers and elements are constantly delightful while the energy just inspires pure, blissful madness. A great wrap-up to a great three-tracker. The Timewarp stamp always promises quality and "Expansion" does not disappoint. Not a single moment goes by where time is being wasted and while an initial listen is very easily understood and danceable, multiple listens make these three beauties very intriguing to study and savor. 10. Hello people. As you might know, there is in Japan a discrete niche that Goa/psytrance occupy among the otaku culture. Psytrance is often used in anime and video game circles, as Japan have a rich tradition in terms of EDM inherited from the 90's (they keep alive the spirit of eurobeat, makina, goa trance, etc.) Hence, it is not surprizing that some Touhou (東方) circles have done some Goa arrangements for the OST of this famous series of video games. Here is the theme of Yoshika, a zombie girl that is one of the numerous characters featured in the Touhou universe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaw8WyORAZY There was two Goa arrangements for this theme. The first one is from Distant Phantasm. It's the most recent, and explore the phantomatic/sinister tone of the theme with a piece of experimental Goa that recalls a lot the spirit of the NeoGoa release Celestial Transvibrations. The sounds are raw, distorted, utterly psychedelic, and slightly nitzho-idal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCFyfSjnK9k Distortion waves at 05:17. The second one is from another circle called Sound Holic. It is a piece of euphoric Goa trance that include elements of full-on, eurodance and J-pop, but remains definitely 604. It makes me think in Omegahertz, in some way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_nNBxot4CQ I like the acid loops at 00:56. My question is : which of both do you prefer ?
  11. Ocean Star Empire Dots On Maps Tracklist: 1. Embarking The Phantom Convoy 2. A Nebula Portside (Original Mix) 3. Bacchanalian Bass - Astroidal Artifacts (Ocean Star Empire Remix) 4. Where Is Nuno 5. Rebellion In Module Seven 6. Defiant Friction 7. Dancing With The Stars 8. Three Dots On A Map (Faxi Nadu Remix) 9. Beckoning Glimmers Of Antiquity feat. Manny Zagri 10. A Nebula Portside (Live Version) 11. From The Top Of The Map There's a lot to like about "Dots On Maps," it is smart, well-crafted, very melodic, warm goa. Teaming up Israel's Faxi Nadu, Portugal's Nomad Moon and Bachanalian Bass from the US, it would be very easy for too many cooks to be in the kitchen. Even on first listen walls of sound are encountered on quite a few of these productions and it is easy to spot the disparate styles of each artist. On repeat listens, though, gorgeous goa is a-plenty and the walls become fairly easy to break down. "Embarking The Phantom Convoy" is a moody down tempo intro, a bold and successful start-off to this space odyssey. "From The Top Of The Map" is a deeply interesting chill conclusion, an explanation of the fantasy galaxy where this journey takes place. In between, rollicking but beautiful tracks such as "Where Is Nuno," "Rebellion in Module Seven," "Defiant Friction" and "Dancing With The Stars" hit on some good ideas and rhythms, composing a pleasing middle half of the album. "Beckoning Glimmers Of Antiquity" is a decent tune, tastefully balancing the guitar work of Manny Zagri to the electronic work of these three producers. Of the greats, there are four that will be moved to the permanent collection where I store my favorites (where six tracks from Faxi Nadu's excellent "The Dangling Thread" album already live). I would be hard-pressed to pick the better of the two versions for "A Nebula Portside." The original mix jumps right in to the energy vortex, wasting little time in sweeping up a listener into its delightful star-dust, introducing each great musical element and building up the energy for the big wall-of-sound pay-off later in the track. By contrast, the live version is 3-minutes longer and takes its sweet, lovely time getting to the end of its journey. The 3-minute intro is patient and intriguing, the elements are a bit more raw, the pay-off a lot easier to handle and comprehend. However, the original mix contains some fascinating studio wizardry that just does not shine through on the live version. Either of them, though, have personality and charisma aplenty. A remix of Bacchanalian Bass' "Astroidal Artifacts" is superb where the bells (oh, those lovely bells) are ethereal and captivating from the first moment they are heard. It is almost the main highlight of this collection. Instead, Faxi Nadu's remix of OSE's "Three Dots A Map" (Israel, Portugal, US - get it?) takes top honor here. The style of goa Faxi has developed, so very evident on "The Dangling Thread" release, has become next-level greatness, a step above many contemporaries and results, here, with a track that is instantly superb. Tasteful volume levels are used for the deliciousness being spread out over a tantalizing palette of imagination in sound so there are no walls to break, no extra work or extra listens required to crack the mystery of the track. But listening to the track just once will not do, it is too good to not listen to repeatedly. Ocean Star Empire are three producers from different parts of the world, bringing together different musical styles, the results should be a lot messier just based on common reasoning alone. The results are far from that. "Dots On Maps" is damn good, an album not to be slept on. ()
  12. There hasn't been enough Filteria talk on here as of late for me. I understand this album came out in 2013 now but quite frankly, nothing has come close since as far as artist development and maturity, album to album goes. The growth and inherent connection between Daze of our Lives and Lost in The Wild is obvious for any Filteria fan to hear, but I guess is maybe perhaps lost upon those who haven't followed the entire journey so far. For me, it is something akin to Jannis quite literally perfecting his craft and I'm guessing what he originally set out to do with Sky Input in this album. They are clearly worlds apart, but the idea and essence of pure goa trance convalesced so perfectly in Lost In The Wild that I can't help but feel he achieved what he always had set out to do from the start. So is everyone else still as enthralled with this album as I am? Are some people still longing for the more "noisy" Sky Input days? Don't get me wrong, I love any and all Filteria but for me the best part has been hearing the journey of a musician and producer growing as an artist along the way… PS: How the hell do you follow up on this album??
  13. I recently heard a experimental goa tune by someone called goaTree which was pushed to 160bpm and I absolutely love it! I've always liked hard acid techno/psy and wondered if anyone knew any played at similar speeds? 14. Hi guys, I've been loving the new wave of goa trance going around over the past couple of years and I NEED to find out what the tunes are between about 4:30 and 10:00 in a mix I've been listening to a bit recently. I'm not 100% sure if it's 2 or 3 tunes (I think 2?) but would love some input from you guys! The mix is in the link below: https://soundcloud.com/oktoman/guardians-of-the-roots-mix-by-schlafwandler-2004-2014 I messaged him but got no reply..

  17. Hello people. It is only february, but we already had very exciting things happening in the Goa microcosm. It has never been my cup of tea, but in the golden days, there existed (and you know it) a special kind of Goa, that was either labelled as freeform or experimental. Usually, it consisted in drunken melodies with a thick bassline. But overall, it was crazy psychedelic stuff born to repell the boundaries of psychedelic madness. Example ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m08-lBRAvpA This species died out. Until now ? 02 February, Fuzzonaut releases Fictionnal Grooves, an EP reviving forgotten flavors of madness. 16 February, Ufomatka releases his debut EP (gloriously entitled : The EP) Earlier today, I had access to the Soundcloud page of a mysterious Norwegian label called SunVillageRecordings. These past few days, it has released very experimental pieces of Goa, including : _two EPs The Nature of Space and Transcended Reality _an album from Hallucinogen (insert joke) entitled The Power of the Mind All this stuff is absolutely psychedelic, and just as in the past golden days, it's pure Goa that borderlines Psytrance. Now, there is an upcoming compilation by NeoGoa that is called The World Beyond and that has been described as a "dark, twisted and very experimental compilation" including 4 tracks of unusual length. I am just poiting out what seems to be a new trend in the Goa world for the next few months. EDIT : By the way, it really do seems that Hallucinogen 2015 isn't Simon Posford. Link to the related section. EDIT 2 : Confirmed 300%. However, the fake Hallucinogen seems to be part of that experimental trend as well, so I won't remove it from this post. Be it a genuine artist or not, the style of the music isn't trivial and takes place in a certain context.

  19. Artist: Celestial Intelligence Album: Perpetual Energy Label: Suntrip Records Tracklist: 1. Into The Depths Of Illusion 2. Divine Miracles 3. Constant Motion 4. Anapa 5. Celestial Beings 6. 1001 Reasons 7. Gray Matter 8. A Different Story 9. Perpetual Energy "Perpetual Energy" is not just the album title, it is also a disclaimer. The debut album from Celestial Intelligence is big, loud and brazen, an almost non-stop blast of excellent goa, where so much is fit into the productions that it seems not the slightest bit more could be added but details are never sacrificed, always crystal-clear and never overlooked in this maelstrom of careening dance-floor bliss. One highlight would certainly be the E-Mantra-esque "A Different Story" that creates a warm and inviting world of sound but still includes enough oomph to live up to the "Perpetual Energy" promise. Perhaps the track is a stand-out because it dares to go down a different path from most everything else on the album. The top moments here belong to the three-track block of "Constant Motion," "Anapa" and "Celestial Beings." The energy never relents but there is pure bliss in this chaos. Suited well for a sunny festival afternoon this would be that special 25-minutes where time and space disappear and the plot about everything you may know anything about is completely lost. The worst thing about this album would be "1001 Reasons" and that poor track suffers simply by having the misfortune of playing after the aforementioned trio. To say Celestial Intelligence has made a great debut album sounds a bit insulting, as if it is suggesting that a veteran's album would be more worthy of your time. With tastefully gleeful mayhem, Celestial Intelligence has made a great album. Period. Listen to Celestial Intelligence - "Constant Motion": https://soundcloud.com/celestial-intelligence/celestial-intelligence-constant-motion Edit: As the days go on it seems more and more focus is put on the mastering of the album rather than the music itself. It seems quite a few feel the album is too loud and it detracts from the overall experience. I have not encountered any such problem and maybe most non-technical listeners will not either. The sound is clear to these ears, the lines between the layers are clearly drawn and it is easy to skip between any layer on any given track. There are some beautiful melodies contrasted, to my utter fascination, by an energy flow that never stops in one place for very long. If it is too loud, well, I do not agree. It is just loud enough to suit the album adequately. Those of the other point-of-view, unfortunately, may be missing out on a very good experience. This music is fantastic!
