  2. Title : The Concept Nemesis – Exhausting the Limit Label : Phonix Records Cat no. : PHODIGI016 Format : Digital download Release Date: 16th April 2016 (BeatPort 2 Week Exclusive) World Wide Release: 30th April 2016 Mastered by Dale Byl @ db Mastering Studios, South Africa Artwork by Omega Flight aka Ink Junkiez With each passing moment, we fall further into the abyss. We as a civilization have only ourselves to blame for our self-destructive habits and the damage we inflict on this plant of ours. Why are we like this? What guides our actions into this spiral of chaos? That is the theme that Franco Sanchez, better known as The Concept Nemesis aka T.C.N (Mexico) - chose to explore. Having well deservedly won the X-Side “Dominate” RMXes competition last year, we at Phonix Records were more than happy to help this young beat twister spread his vision, and thus “Exhausting the Limit” was born. This EP starts off of with a grim and introspective story of the “Happen”ings of today, a well thought romp into the realm the systematic chaos, thus setting the tone for what is to come. And in fitting fashion what follows is unsurprisingly, “Trouble”. A melody infused beast which keeps twisting and turning until the point it has you - body, mind and soul. As the adrenaline levels fall, you are left to contend with finding yourself “Outside” your comfort zone - there you can find perspective. What are we doing to this planet of ours? Why are we pushing it to the very brink? What can we do stop it? Where there is a will, there is a way - and Franco teams up with Mexican mastermind X-Side aka Luis Cruz to present the ultimate - “Weapon over mind”. An unrelenting story of defiance, filled with super charged melodies and turbo charged grooves - a true testament to the defiant human spirit which can accomplishing amazing things when working as one in perfect harmony! With this EP, Phonix Records is proud to present - The Concept Nemesis - a primal force not to be taken lightly! Furthermore, we are happy to share his vision of appreciation for the world we inhabit and the collective respect for it, all living beings should share. Now, as you have done many times before and will do so for many moons more - take us to your speakers! TRACKLIST: 1. T.C.N – Happen [147 BPM] 2. T.C.N – Trouble [146 BPM] 3. 4. Artist: Nervasystem Title: Early Daze Label: Self Released Date: March, 2013 1. Matter Transfer 2. Zones 3. Terraform 4. Liquid Lifeform 5. Initiation 6. Kinetic Space Dilation 7. Venusian Illusion 8. Decoder 9. Stardust "Seen from out here...everything seems different." There he is! I found fat Waldo! Unless you've been held captive in a Yemeni prison for the last few years you heard and hopefully purchased Mark Dressler's return to the scene Time Travel. Awesome album that is so highly recommended that it was with renewed interest I decided to check out his Early Daze. It's a digital only release comprised of tracks he released back in the day on labels like Matsui, Psychic Deli, and Phantasm before that label descended into a meteoric pile of sh*t. Now if you were to peek at my early days I'm sure it is filled with moments that are not ready for prime time. Yeah I had a bowl cut. And I had feathered hair as a teenager. Gimme a break it was the 80's. Some f*cked up sh*t went on back then. Anyway all the tracks here were released on compilations or his own EP's so slow your roll we didn't discover any hidden gold. Well, I'd never heard Kinetic Space Dilation before and I don't believe that one was released anywhere. I haven't heard his latest stuff (3 or 4) so I cannot compare this album to those. But I have heard and loved Time Travel. And this isn't that far off from Time Travel. I think this release is for Mark's fans (I am one) and those who want to support the artist. As I mentioned almost all have been released on his ep's and comps which I'm certain you freaks already have. The sound is unmistakably goa with screeching leads and bubbly sounds (Terraform, Liquid Lifeform) attaining high levels of psychedelia. Initiation rages with whiplashes of fire and Decoder has that post golden era goa sound laced with psychedelic sounds. If there are any weak moments perhaps you could include the overly long and steady Zones, but most of the tracks bring psychedelic goa right up front. Nice one. Nervasystem Bandcamp

  6. Artist: G-light Title: The Final Element Label: Deja Vu Records Date: November, 2003 1. Deja Vu 2. Skyline 3. Dance of The Morning Sun 4. Pitch Black 5. Positive Motion 6. Final Element (Rmx) 7. Circles 8. Planet 604 9. Storm This was one of the first psytrance CD's I purchased way back when so the nostalgia value was fairly high for me. Until I listened to it again. I don't recall it being this...mediocre. Context is important and when this came out in 2003 full-on was a new genre, an explosion of power from the subdued tones and atmospheres of minimal. 13 years on however that power is like dial up compared with broadband. Smartphones vs. my old candy bar Nokia. His breaks are still nice, but the compositions feel like they are lacking. The album no longer holds up (no matter how many lasers he puts in there). Even the photoshopped cover is dated. As much as it pains me to say it (it really doesn't pain me) this album shall merely be a footnote in psytrance history.
  7. Artist: Digicult Title: Soul Samadhi Label: Dacru Records Date: February, 2015 1. Digicult Vs. U-Recken - Sundara 2. Soul Samadhi 3. Jaia - Mai Mai (Digicult Vs. U-Recken Rmx) 4. Digicult Vs. Tropical Bleyage - Aradhana 5. Man With No Name - Evolution (Digicult Rmx) 6. Digicult - Star Travel (Talamasca Rmx) 7. Lost In A Mental Universe 8. Digicult - Red Planet (Spirit Architect Rmx) 9. Digicult Vs. U-Recken - Into The Heartland (Astral Projection Rmx) Digicult is a project that has always flirted with goa trance and sometimes outright produced it. I suppose you would have to label him a "full-on" act, but without all the cheese and simplicity that usually rides shotgun. Loved his albums Lucid Nation and Out of This World. With this his fourth album he remixes two goa classics and perpetual missing people Astral Projection remix one of his own tracks. Now usually when an artist from the full-on genre attempts to remix goa standards images of the album we shall not name pop up and we begin to behave like a poison victim. Now I'm not gonna blow smoke up your ass. It's not healthy for either of us and that would entail me getting closer to your ass than is comfortable. The cliche's are here from auto-tune to the triplet bass lines. This is pop-full on and he could probably parlay this into a Vegas residency. Sundara encapsulated all that is wrong with full-on and all that could be right. What sets Digicult apart from the vast majority of full-on artists however is his attention to detail. An example of this is the track Aradhana which gives a wink and a nod in the goa direction. Another good one was Lost In A Mental Universe where he does his best Electric Universe impression. Plenty of artists bombard you with melodies, but he adds atmosphere and more things to grab a hold of. Makes it a lot more bearable. But you don't help your cause when you let Talamasca anywhere near your music. What I heard with that track was equal part Eskimo's Popcorn and Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene which of course added up to get the f*ck outta here. Still like I said it's a pop full-on album that doesn't distinguish itself from the huge pile we already have. He seems to have given up and just decided if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Got bills to pay homie and these frat boys love it when the beat drops! Oh well I hope he at least is scoring some quality groupie love. Besides I was really only interested in the goa remixes. And unfortunately it reaffirmed my belief that he should just leave it alone. There's a reason we haven't seen a recreation of the Mona Lisa with nothing but finger clippings and dandruff. You just know it would be terrible. And disgusting. The Astral remix is quintessential Astral with their signature sound and they continue to do just enough to keep you on the line hoping for a new goa album that will most likely never come. So in closing I will say that this is not an essential piece of music (I know you're shocked) and not even essential for the Digicult collection. You can tell he still has the talent and ability to make deep, meaningful tracks, but with this he has dipped a little too close to the euphoric Paul Van Dyk cheesiness. And I'm too old to put my hands in the air and wave them around like I just don't care. Here's to hoping that with his next album he just says f*ck it and makes the brilliant goa album I know he is capable of. C'mon dude...you know you wanna. Psyshop Beatspace
  8. Artist: Shamanic Tribes On Acid Title: Acid Apocalypse Label: Kinetix Recordings Date: 1997 1. Acid Medusa 2. Exploding Psychedelic Rainbow 3. Fulfil Your Destiny 4. Aliens Love To Talk 5. The Mad Hatters Acid Tea Party 6. Omnifarious Splifferous 7. Drugged To The Eyeballs 8. Bass Ritual 9. Extraterrestrial Lover 10. Apache Trance 11. No Armageddon Noisy. Repetitive. Destructive. This isn't an album it's a f*cking toddler. I reviewed The Mad Hatters Acid Tea Party and Future World and came to the conclusion that they were both really sh*tty albums. Add this to those and you have a perfect storm of annoyance. Musically this is just a earache generating disaster. The production is flimsy and you'll find more soothing melodies at a Slayer concert. This isn't music that you play to enjoy. This is music you play to get terrorists to submit. Or the soundtrack to revenge porn against your girlfriend. Hard trance, acid, goa...it all falls under the same headache umbrella. Does this album come with a Salma Hayek and Sofia Vergara handy? Cause it's the only way you'll get me to listen to it again.
  9. Artist: Frozen Ghost Title: Just One Bite Label: Afrogalactic Records Date: 2006 1. Low Life Loser 2. Mushroom Mayhem v2.0 3. Bonestorm 4. Just One Bite 5. Incredible Legends 6. Fool Moon Remix 7. Elephant Safari 8. Good For Nothing 9. S.W.O.R.N. - Sole Survivor (Frozen Ghost Remix) "A little LSD is all I need" Everyone knows who these guys are. RIP MCA. Their debut came out in 87 (before you guys were even a dirty thought) and man was it massive. Three white kids from Brooklyn rapping? Madness! Might as well have told the world we'd have a black president. White people back then did hair metal not hip-hop. Anyway after the huge success of License To Ill their 2nd album Paul's Boutique came out to much fanfare, but fell a little flat. Or so we thought. Turns out it was a true classic. We just weren't ready yet. So many samples, you couldn't make that album today. But it was awesome and the world seemed to appreciate it only after time had passed. So here's Barry Wynne with his first album and I initially passed on it. Thought it was just noise. But like dem Beasties I eventually came around. This is good time, shake your ass music. It's chock full of samples that never stray into cheese territory. The music undergoes many changes keeping it fresh. As a Simpsons fanatic my favorite track is Bonestorm with its plethora of Simpson samples and twerk inducing rhythm. But there is so much to dig into here all while dancing like crazy. Those bass lines are like MJ's moonwalk and the music undergoes so many mutations with well placed samples and huge amounts of dynamism. Funky stuff that is deep and entertaining. Pick it up. Psyshop
  10. Artist: Chromatone Title: Chromaconnection Label: Vaporvent Date: July, 2006 1. Chromatone + Random + Helos - Merciful Error 2. Chromatone + Christine - Existentialist Detectives 3. Chromatone + Earthling + Random - Biiiiig Stickey 4. Chromatone + CPU + Random - Strengthen The Strange 5. Chromatone + Digital Talk + Random - Spiritual Reality 6. Chromatone + Freaks of Nature - Glow-Stick Armageddon 7. Chromatone + Hyper Frequencies + Random - Laser Wax 8. Chromatone + Neuromotor/E.S.X.S - Electryk Chromama 9. Chromatone + Rob-Ot + Psytony - Green Power House I assume this was what it looked like when Chromatone went into the studio to make his debut album. Uh, minus the methadone clinic, but I dunno, I wasn't there. That's a lot of clowns on heroin. I have an idea...how about making your own f*cking album? As the Beatles said it's ok to get by with a little help from your friends, but at some point momma's gotta push your ass out of the nest. With all these clowns at what point does it stop being an album and become a compilation? Why not just form a collective and call it The Sh*tty Full-On Nebula? So Chromatone is Lawrence Hoffman from my side of the pond and he apparently put out a Craigslist ad for studio help. Ever heard of too many cooks spoil the broth? Well they did. They peed in it. I've liked stuff from this guy, but the problem is that it's too much of the same thing. Acid-laden high tempo stuff is great, but the track structure is too linear. Not enough nuance. Strengthen The Strange harkens back to a time when the night-time full on ripped. On its face it's a good album of night time full-on, but some variety would've been greatly appreciated. I suppose if you were in need of a full-on fix you could get it pretty cheaply on Discogs.

  12. Artist: Glitch Title: Higher Definition Label: Psybliminal Records / Ritual Records Date: November, 2011 01 - The Beginning Of The End (148 BPM) 02 - Hallucinogenic Gas (146 BPM) 03 - Killer Chemicals (147 BPM) 04 - The Fallen (148 BPM) 05 - Sacred Geometry (147 BPM) 06 - Metamorphasys (148 BPM) 07 - Broken (148 BPM) 08 - Wordclock (148 BPM) 09 - Puff (152 BPM) "I've been trying to explain it to you all along...you just can't seem to grasp it." Dash Hawkins sounds like a superhero. In truth he is from South Africa and if he was a superhero he would clear out all the sharks so a brother can surf without getting eaten. Yeah like I would be able to visit South Africa. Or surf. But I digress. He is from South Africa and it's been too long since we've discussed South African psytrance. Well that ends today. He brings dark melodies, eerie atmospheres, and that frenetic pace that aficionados of that part of our genre love. Killer Chemicals is a metallic rattler and The Fallen takes some darkpsy inspiration with some crazy sounds. Pffft....x. You're not even f*cking trying anymore. The South African Goodness continues with Sacred Geometry and its punchy bass line and ricocheting sounds. Metamorphasys and Broken have it all, (with Broken a little less so) spooky intro, twilight style effects, and a thumping bass line. It wasn't bad. Think of it like a sHiFt starter kit or one of the artists that Timecode or Nexus Media could take under their wing. It had all the elements, but it lacks a little polish. Some more variation would've been nice and of course what self respecting South African trancer doesn't push the acid envelope. There is promise here young Paduan. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk

  23. Artist: Necton Title: Retrodelica Label: Ovnimoon Records Date: September, 2013 1. Vibrations 2. Distorted Reality 3. Intruders 4. My Generation 5. Rollercoaster 6. 303 Smaragd 7. Slideglider 8. Artificial Amateurs 9. Back To Normal 10. Vi Ger Oss Inte "You're gonna be so tired of winning, I'll tell you that!" Why must my country continue to embarrass itself? We've finally found the one export with which we rule the world...humiliation. From the label that puts out music like Trump does insults this is a collection of tracks that were previously available for free download (don't ask me where) from a guy that has been around awhile. Formerly a duo now the solo project of Patrik Olsen this compilation (according to Discogs) is a full-on one trick pony. If you're looking for story telling pick up a book. It's straight ahead full-on with an aggressive edge, employing 303s and good grooves. And I'll tell you that sentence makes it sound better than it is. No twists or turns just four on the floor stuff. However when he uses his mighty 303 powers it is to good effect. I don't know how old these tracks are and it doesn't sound like the stuff we're used to hearing from Ovnimoon. This album feels like it could've been better with some more time in the oven. Not Trumps oven mind you. That's full of Mexicans and Muslims. Sig heil! Beatspace Psyshop
  24. Hey guys wassup! Just finished this tune after a week's hard work and experimenting a lot. This was originally intended for a remix contest but got sidetracked. I used free software to generate the sounds of this track ,inside of Reaper, which was very painful to do. loops were imported back into reason for arrangement and (kind of ) mastering.
