  1. i want my two minutes back. i hope some of these others are worth watching , this is a great thread
  2. looks great- nice pyramid, that thing is excellent
  3. yep. blue room which became thump, those were good parties. way more psychedelic/ things changed after the first hallucinogen party, then the muse's rapt both get bumped from their private spaces, the producer guys had to find venues that actually had permits to be able to bring good acts here, started having to cater to more and more regular club people who weren't into psy but happen to walk into well known club i don't think that is the cause behind the shift in music, but it was the beginning of the end, where we would have nearly full on stuff all night, eventually the full on psy doesnt start until at least 1 or 2, after the regular alcohol buying crowd has split.
  4. ok thanks the topic i linked to was actually more psy related anyway so i may put up a post in genreal, if you hate it i guess you'll delete it, should be ok/
  5. more of a question than complaint, but i guess i bring it here- any particular reason to why this http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=29708 thread is locked? seems like most of the freestyle section is locked, and much of it for no clear reason, although osme of those threads, not surprised they're locked.
  6. pretty cool that God is God is on this list- love that track, but i would have thought it not quite in the genre, or outdated. figured one out- Absolum - No Rush. the only time it slows down , you really need a rest by then also, many other absolum tracks, as well as a good portion of the rest of 3dvision stuff
  7. did you go to the tantra party last weekend? i am wondering what people thought of the psychedelic room, i thought it the music in there was pretty much within psy and not to dark, although somewhat. "djs playing commercial full-on music," i am just not really sure what that means. to me , this party was less of a dark stomp stomp stomp than most of what i have seen here. in general i totally agree, wondering if this weekend was a little different. i guess overall it was pretty dark type stuff
  8. seems like a few groups are missing also like the trance warriors all black clothes with flouro seams i wont even get into the rest of that stereotype or the trancer who gets mad if you call them a trancer, because they are so individual they cannot be associated with anything, even though they are the average trancer, the ones co0ol enough to avoid being locked into these categories because they wear the right clothes or whatever. the whole "wannabe" thing is ridiculous. people either like the music or they don't. i know there are too many actual wannabes- idiots who think something cool/ drug related is happening and they want to be in on it, but most of the wannabes that get looked down on are really just people who havent been to that many parties because they just found this music. Sorry , i know im being lame, but this is all reminding me of some "woman" if you can even call her that i met who was nobody, always talking shit about the "elite trancers" until she slowly but surely pushed her way into that circle and soon i'm hearing how nice the same people she was trashing are now/ and who are all these wannabes... freaking amazing how fast it turns around.
  9. wow- Fractal Cowboys & The Many Faces - Entre Nous (Manic Dragon) Penta - Horn Please (AuraQauke) and deeper in Zen on there .. cool for them
  10. so what is the difference if you bought it or not? not sure. .. explain? i have bought too many cds to list that aren't infected, have copies of a few cds with mush remixes, but i don't think any with purely IM tracks i told dude from IM that i had more or less stolen everything he'd ever released (at the time), asked him to take a dollar for it. he laughed at me. i have classical, the gathering, BP emp, and CV. CV is my least favorite i haven't been super impressed since then, but i can't say for sure i've heard anything off the newest album. ***excellent** this topic got me looking thru my cds, i didnt realize i have another one, Im the supervisor i guess that was the last tour i saw them on as well. good album.
  11. heheh. wish i could make it that far. fuck, i'm not sure they'll let me into Canada without a bunch of paperwork BS, post 9/11 , i have a thick record... the Japanese- HOLY CRAP i thought it was only for the rich here, wow that is out of control. here the parties may be less ($20-35, for everything) but they are like 4-5 hours away so you better have $$ to take time off travel, good car, etc., and really most broke fools can pool together. $150 to enter plus parking plus tent ? the smily banging his head against a wall is missing :banghead:
  12. see this is where it gets interesting! can i hear those tones?? -maybe , maybe not. the low end of human hearing is 20hz but can i FEEL those vibrations ??? HELL YES. THAT is where the difference comes from, and with a good sub, you'll feel it. as far as a true double blind test (no i had to look up your abx) you're right my tests are not that complicated, but i find them uneccessary. most of the tiem the diff in wav to mp3 is like a punch in the face but where on one hand you say i prove your point, at the same time you prove mine. i'm not trying to argue that miniscule differEnces will be heard but i think aT THIS point even you can admit the diff between a wav and a 192 mp3 is giant, and hopefully you also are able to accept that 320 vs wav is also quite a diff. i do know for a fact my hearing is well above the average, and it has run in my family, but i also know the vast majority can tell the difference if given the chance to really listen, just at parties most people don't think about it that much but my point remains the same there is no good reason to use lower quality audio at a party what still baffles me is here are people arguing about why we should give the people less rather than more. really really sad
  13. well FUKEN ALRIGHTTTT!!! it's about time i didn't feel like the only one thinking this way. you are so right. first off you must be way more interested in the "spiritual" aspect of things, the music is secondary (what?) the STOMP- man , i have been complaining of this for years. i think it started when the djs started getting coked up. people don't know how to or just plain don't dance, they freggin just want to jump up and down, and then the music goes the same way. "psychedlic" ??? the last few times i went out it was like one of every ten tracks was actually psychedelic, the vast majority are bump bump bump and little else seems like the focus totally shifted from dancing crazy to crazy psy music to "making the scene", and being part of some weird religious trip, which it just isn't, at least not form the way people i've seen do it. having a weird ritual once a month and then living the rest of your life as a materialist does not make you a holy person
  14. a point getting missed some of you get it , and others are missing this small item== the digital media aspect, OBVIOUSLY the future. the problem with mp3 is the quality. with the cost of hard drives these days, you store 500 cds in full quality wav format for like $200 (ok i dont know exact prices, but it isnt much) i love traktor myself, and by now i am sure there are tons of other proggys that are equally awesome (or better), but there is no reason to use inferior quality recordings with them dumbing it down- i am not meaning to insult the audience, the "bonehead mass audience" is a figure of speech, but i hear similar too often. djs saying things like "most people don't notice this mistake or that, it doesn't matter" - well, of course djs make mistakes sometimes, but it is a general attitude of "it's good enough for them" what? aren't we better than that? but no, pretty much the response i have gotten from most djs seems like they consider the audience somehow less of a listener than hey are (after all if we were such great listeners, we'd be djs right? ugh...) granted a large percentage of party goers will not notice when things are lower quality, but more will notice when it's better. lots of people aren't even paying attention, some barely care about the music at all, they're there for the scene. I just would hope as a dj, one would want to provide the hardcore audiophile dancing maniac with the ultimate experience instead of just saying :"it's good enough" especially since i am that listener
  15. wasn't sure you would even beleive me on the vinyl, but yeah, also the huge dynamic range of cd vs vinyl does make a difference. (i only added that cuz seems like MANY folks don't even notice that difference) as far as the test, i've done it for myself and countless others. i have various bitrates of several tracks available on my HD all the time, some by accident, some on purpose for these tests. pretty much anyone given the chance to really listen can hear the difference- really funny ok, i'm some kind of liar. (although im not sure what you say i am lying about, tell 192 from what?) what is my motivation for lying here? makes me laugh. yeah, i came here just to lie and make you mad. funny- bet anything the people denying the differnce between mp3 and wav are those who don't own full qual cds. pirate djs, upset their pirated material isn't going to be hifi enough for a real party look just learn to copy cds and get a BIG hd, you'll be fine. 192 and 193? you're right, im sure i couldn't tell those two apart. why dont you try this on a decent system and see for yourself..... rip a track at 128 160 192 220 320 and a WAV maybe some people can't hear the diff of 192 vs 320, but i doubt it. 192 vs 160 or 220? maybe not... but if you can;t hear the diff between at least some of those, and notice the HUGE diff of WAVs, well, i really hope you aren't a dj. but unless you're listening on a crap ass system with no bass at all, you'll hear it. isnt that hard to do either, all you need is itunes and a cd (or other ripper) really, resorting to calling me a liar because you don't like what i say- weak. i'd just own up and admit maybe your hearing isn't what you would like it to be, but you're satisfied because it means lower quality audio is fine by you. (ps , thorns really prick if you grab on them)
  16. yeah right. i won't hear the difference between cd and vinyl either. you won't i will
  17. holy crap how many freaking times must it be said you can dj with your laptops and wavs stop dumbing it down for some bonehead mass audience
  18. screw it , im bumping a month later. i've done so many tests with BIG ASSS systems it is silly. i haven't found anyone yet who can't tell the difference on my home system, i am routinely demonstrating why low bit mp3s suck to ignorants all you need for a good demo is a decent subwoofer. play 128, 192, 320, wav. they all sound different hearing sensitivity can be an individual thing also. still, disturbing that the majority here is still in favor of playing to a bone head mass audience, and determining what they can get away with rather than how to give the people the best possible experience
  19. i thought i was going to be considered dated for this but i guess not Panic in Paradise
  20. hmm. mixed results xenomorph was in the crowd here enough he was pretty cool, but i didnt really meet him. same with hux flux. the guys from Infected were pretty cool when i spoke to them briefly ollie wisdom- kind stuck up too cool for everyone, didn't bother trying to meet him when i had the chance CPU- hey so who is that besides Sam?? max, sam, and nick were really awesome as biodegradable and not bad separate but hey Nick you are a real bummer - last time in SF you let your label forbid you from playing an hour at a tiny weekly?? give me a break, and more importantly to the label - SCREW you - not like nick and sam were making house music and hosting parties for 15 year old cyberpunks when i met them......... if those guys hadn't later met the Koinenea (sp?) people, and then been taken into the trance scene.... the SF people are why the label even gets to make $$$ off nikka and he isn't allowed to play here? i could understand if it was for $$ or even near the place he was being paid to play, but it wasn't. i like those guys, but it is lame the label has that kind of control, seems the opposite of the idea here Nueromotor- that fred quit didn't he? heheh this is the most fun part. to make a long story short he thought he was going to kick my ass once for making some comments online about his dangerous use of high frequencies, really dangerous overuse of white noise. he sent me a threatening email, so i sent him my number to arrange a meeting since he was in town here. then i guess someone told him he was going to have a real hard time kicking my ass, and he apologized by phone. he did figure out what track was blasting eardrums, said he wouldn't play it that way again, then i heard he did it to the people in NY anyway. i don't know if ocelot or penta count yet, but i think they're both pretty good, local people , and oh yeah deeper in zen james, all very cool people. i don't know penta personally , but i see him around, seems well liked. nobody likes me (usually with fair reason) and james and ocelot have always still been really cool to me. who else. .. that girl from analog pussy. i hate getting compliments from attached women, but very nice also. i'd say it splits down the middle, about half of the acts i've seen, they come in, play, and split, think they are rock stars, too cool for everyone. the other half hangs out after, maybe plays a little local show or something, are accessible not that there aren't all kinds of in between
  21. ok i have to take this a little farther= this is some flawed logic. First- if they never heard it full qual, of course they don't know the system at a party being so big compared to home systems, anything will sound bigger and better (almost) worse, we have uneducated everyone to accept lower quality audio as the real deal. IF you played the same track over a big system first in 320, then in WAV- EVERYONE would know the difference. i can fully tell the difference even on my crappy home system SO- is it really cool to say "ehh, they can't tell the difference?" are party goers to be looked at as the same sheep we find everywhere else? i dunno, seems like trance djs should be better than that, instead of basically saying 90% of everyone is too stupid to tell the differnce. besides, what about the 10% of us who do notice? i know sometimes it is a money issue but in general it only takes a little more effort and storage space to have full quality. if djs are only playing for the lowest common denominator, the trance music scene is no better than top 40 radio stripped down mp3s lack bass, fullness and clarity of full quality wavs, and it's also been shown people generally put the volume too loud with mp3s, trying to pump the non existent bass up and only raising the hearing damaging trebles it would be really great if djs would try hard not to use mp3s
  22. although 320 mp3s aren't terrible, the difference from wavs is tremendous. you can't make something 5x smaller and have it sound as good, you just can't. WORSE- i've had djs tell me how "oh 192k is fine" yeah freaking right, it's horrible. i've honestly been pretty disappointed by vinyl compared cd to but anyway..... one great example was watching ollie play full on cds for a few hours, and then the next dj comes one with all mp3s. the sound just dropped out totally. if you want to mix on a laptop, get a FAT hard drive and run WAVS through traktor or whatever the current proggy is, but mp3s= half the point of going out is to experience the FULL loud sound. mp3s are a gyp in that sense. a real waste of all that expensive sound equipt, it's reaLLy a shame we moved backwards with supposedly "forward" tech
  23. not that's it's that likely i'll ride the motorbike that far (i never go anywhere) but looking at the map i'm curious what type of road is 70 for all that way and is it possibly faster to go up 5 to 32 and backtrack a little? i'm probably wrong, but if 70 is as slow as it looks, this could be a better route- anyone know better?
