  1. wow glad to see a review of this album on psynews. A good review it is too pavel This is by far the best ambient album i bought last year. Actually to call it ambient does it a bit of a disservice IMO because the spectrum of music on this disk is far too broad to be pigeonholed into one genre: on this album you'll find ambient, IDM, jazz, (post) rock, classical music, some slightly heavier dance music and some other stuff that simply defies categorisation. I just love the way BT manipulates the all the intruments you hear on this album, one intrument morphs into the next and then that will suddenly get changed into a flock of beeps and so on. The production is fantastic too, one of those albums which you can really appreciate if you listen to it on good headphones/a surround sound system. Also, if you buy the double CD you get the bonus of a surround sound DVD with individual visualisations for each song (the visualisations aren't that great but listening to it on DVD quality on a surround sound system is really something else!) I'll take you through my favourite tracks: Dynamic Symmetry: This song has a slooooow build up to it (around 2 minutes long) and then suddenly bursts into life, with some beautiful (almost childlike use of) piano, heavy drums, strange beeps and some effects that kind of sound like a baby crying. Put together the song sounds kind of like something being born into life. Beautiful. The song continues to build with some great use of guitar and then BT throws you into a cacophany of beeps morphing that float around the sound system/headphones and then quickly change into an old fashioned, smokey jazz riff. Internal Locus: This song starts out very simply with some simple piano chords playing over some rain effects. The piano gradually gets put under electronic distortion until it is completely submursed in it. Then out of the distortion an orchestra suddenly appears, sounding kind of like something you'd see on a discovery channel program (not literally, but this is the image it creates in my mind ). Towards the end of the song theres a wicked shift again where it sounds like the music literally over exerts itself and dies of power, it's started up again and shifts into some funky house type music. The Antikythera Mechanism: This song starts out beautifully, with two piano solos sounding like something you'd hear out of a fairytale. Some guitars join in, again building the song up until your hit by an increasing amount of electronic distortion. About 3/4 the way through the CD, the orchestra kicks in again, this time harder than ever: very, very powerful. Good Morning Kaia: This song sounds like something sigur ros would play if they ever delved into electronica. Supposedly written about the birth of BT's newborn child (the whole album in fact has a theme of new life being brought into the world that seems to run through most of the songs.) Again starts with some beautiful piano, which grows and grows with the addition of a moaning sigur ros styled guitar and then finally develops into a glorious post rock anthem. I had the opportunity of listening to this song high on shrooms a few weeks ago, at dawn whilst the sun was rising over the horizon and beams of light were beginning to pierce through my bedroom window and fill my room with warming light. I could not think of a better soundtrack for watching dawn rise than this album. They fit absolutely perfectly together So all in all i'm with pavel on a 9.8 out of 10 for this album
  2. twisted page says 18th of june. apparently storm's only just done the photo for the album cover though, so it could be later. I've listened to that song like 5 times since i first heard it. truly amazing. it's hard to believe it's actually younger brother. i'm so excited about this release!
  3. theyve recently uploaded the full video of 'ribbon of a branch' off their new album that they played live at the brixton academy. wow
  4. He didn't play! my only disappointment about the night... i even made my friends stay on the dancefloor after hallucinogen in dub had finished telling them that doof was on next and that he was awesome. sadly all we got was some quiet dub playing in the background
  5. I'm pissed i missed this at the twisted party, also a big fan of doof and so was really looking forward to watching this one (along with zubzub who i've also never seen before and missed as well) but yet again i found myself losing track of time whilst dancing away on the main dancefloor and before i knew it i'd missed the set There's some tunes up on his myspace site though and they sound seriously sweeeet, can't wait for the album. i'm just hoping they make an appearance at glade too so i can catch them there

  9. shall we get the ball rolling on a meet up beforehand then since it's only a week away and there's so many of us going? If we do I vote we just go to the cedar rooms again because 1: we can just use the thread from the last party so don't have to bother organising anything, 2: it's easy to find, 3: it's on the same tube line and in the same zone as brixton and 4: they have a great cocktail menu :posford: 6 days to go and counting! woop!
  10. I'll be there on the dancefloor again :posford: can't wait!
  11. I've been listening to loads of their stuff all week, freakin' amazing!! I wish they could do their own live set at the party as well as performing with younger brother, i would love to see these guys perform live
  12. +1. How stupid is that. I'd be well up for recommending some tunes for floating around in space to
  13. Cedar rooms again? I actually know where that is, so..... Also, is there any word out on what the order of the night is going to be yet?
  14. really? oh man, this keeps getting better and better. I'm in love with it's about time atm!
  15. I must admit I download (illegally) quite a lot However, I wouldn't consider myself a music pirate. I have a substantial CD collection (around 300) that I am also consistantly adding to. I mainly because i have a strong tendency to impulse buy a lot based on amazon reviews/recommendations from others etc, even though I haven't heard that particular person's/group's music before. In the past, this has often lead me to buying CDs that I don't actually like that much, making me waste money that i simply don't have. I now try to download new music that I haven't heard before in order to check it out. If i really like it, then i will always try to buy the actual CD at some point (may not be for a while though due to lack of money), not only because I feel proud of having concrete CDs of my favourite albums but also out of respect to the artist/band for putting out such good music. If i find it only mediocre then i usually just keep it on download. If it's shit then i delete it Downloading is one of the greatest tools I've found for introducing me to music (many of what i would now consider my favourite artists/bands I have orginally found by downloading, and even more via word of mouth on the internet). But I don't want to limit my music collection to just some text on a computer/ipod screen. I like my CDs too much for that Anyway, I think if more people had this attitude towards illegal downloading (i.e. having enough respect to actually buy the music if you really enjoy it) then piracy wouldn't be such a problem. I think too many people just take music for granted and this is why piracy has become such a big problem.
  16. do prices go up on monday then? how much if so? I wish twisted would tell us about these things!
  17. recently managed to persuade a load of uni friends to come up with me on this one, so if all goes to plan I should be travelling with a party of 10-15 Will have to see though, as there was supposed to be about 10 people coming to the last one but they all backed out at the last minute, and it ended up being just me and one other mate (who only decided to come a week before, hehe). Anyway, I'm sure they'll all be up for drinks beforehand so if someone organises a time and place (i don't know london too well, I'm afraid) then we shall be there. That is, providing non-psynewsers are welcome too of course excited...
  18. lol, i love this board. I got this album about 2 weeks ago and have seriously gotten into it over the past few days and was just gonna ask if anyone else had any recommendations for similar music, until i saw this thread. Anyway, great album and thanks for the other recommendations, will def check em out.
  19. My CD collection has been a mess since I moved house. I wasn't at home when we moved and so the people that moved all my CDs didn't realise they were in a very specific order (all done by genre). I keep meaning to sort them out again (I know exactly where each one is supposed to go, I know I'm sad ) but its such hassle I still haven't got round to it. It's been a year now
  20. Possibly the best chill album I have to lie down and just float away to. Anubis' 'Invocation' is one of the most beautiful psy songs I have ever heard: the vocals just seem to melt out of the speakers/headphones. Perfect album! 10/10
  21. Yeah for sure, I'll be there again if we organise something Good news about the capacity too, tis definately the best idea to have all the headlining bands in a huge room.
