  1. Gonna have to say Total Eclipse (even if their newest album was pretty bad IMO), although I have great respect for all of these artists. The older stuff actually sounds slightly aged now but IMO that's part of the appeal. The sound seemed very "raw" in a good way I have to admit I hadn't heard much from Jaia (only been listening to psy since around 2002), but that Re:works album last year(ish) opened my eyes. It's really not my typical style either, but I dig it a lot.
  2. I have no idea what "epic" trance means or where it begins/ends, but I too dig Jörg On Mushroom - The Messenger Dancing with Kadafi seems pretty epic to me, but no idea if thats "epic trance" or not.
  3. #1 Sky Technology - Ancient Race (http://www.ektoplazm.com/2010/sky-technology-time-space) #2 Artifakt - 8 Bit Celebration ( )#3 Artifakt - Ulfhednar (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFgX31Q5KnI&feature=related) No idea on the rest of my top10. Plenty of great tracks but it's hard to rate them against each other.
  4. Modern computers don't actually use much power when they are idle. More than turned off obviously...but many computers use less power than a regular 60watt lightbulb. Most of the power use comes from the monitor and when the computer is actually doing stuff. This has been a lesson in computer geekery. I didn't know audiogalaxy was still around. I used to download lots of mp3s there like 10 years ago. Sounds like a cool app. My problem with Rhapsody (or similar services) was that they don't have ANY psy, or any rare music at all.
  5. Had these forever, I'm sure everyone knows them. Just got these M-AUDIO BX5a's a few months ago, and am loving them. They are my first monitors of any kind, but I think they sound better than my headphones (which already sounded great). I thought they might not have enough bass with only 5", but the bass is actually really good with some slight EQ (and it's sooo much more accurate than my old speakers).
  6. Ummmmmm....WHY? Even if they were good tracks, I see little reason to add a song to a mix from 16 years ago. Why not just make a new mix? Then to add something like "Becoming Insane", which apart from being terrible, doesn't really fit the set AT ALL..
  7. They may be worse than Yahel, but Yahel has consistently terrible covers. Doing it once is one thing, but managing to make horrible covers over and over is pretty impressive.
  8. There was some new member posting "stop with this shit" and "what is this shit?" stuff like that in every thread he posted in yesterday
  9. Nice thanks for the link. It's a really fun track too, a very playful trippy journey. Oh god not another one.
  10. I'm gonna have to go with some Suomi and say Texas Faggott - Petoman's Peflett IFO, Violent Relaxation, Twisted/Lone Deranger are all up there though
  11. I have noticed this too, but I don't think it's completely a bad thing. Sure some of them are pretty bad, but there are some gems in there too. My favorite track of the year (Sky Technology's 'Ancient Race') is from a free release. I've heard a lot of "real" albums that were completely terrible. At least when a free release is bad I'm not out any money. There is some truth to that, but you can pick any random psy album it will probably be "bad" (subjective I know) regardless of whether it was free. Are people really going to go straight for the free releases when they discover goatrance anyway? How will people who are new to goa/psy even know the names of the labels, let alone that you can go to their websites and download free releases? Maybe I'm just weird (okay forget the "maybe" ) but I heard all the big names first like IM, AP, Hallucinogen, etc and some mixes/live sets. This seems to happen to most people who hear psytrance. Even the "commercial" stuff is too weird for most people.
  12. Cool thanks for the tip. I like the idea of the double CD, each a different sound. I will have to check this out ASAP. You're right about it being the only CD available though. I checked every site I know of and they only have this album.
  13. I've always loved this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-r58xH3YbBk
  14. I'm interested in this too, been meaning to check out more of their music. I bought a compilation with a couple of their tracks a year or two ago, the one track Popperknool is insane and very funky. One of my favorites from the last couple years: http://www.saikosounds.com/english/display_release.asp?id=7505
  15. Just remembered this one. I'm not sure it's even considered trance, but I don't get too hung up on genre names so... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmHXUBiRmQw
  16. I feel your pain crtmn. We rarely even get any psytrance acts here, let alone a GOA one. The electronic music scene in general is very small here, and trance especially is very unpopular. Most people here only go for top40 crap, and any music without singing they will never even give a chance. The most popular electronic music here is probably house and DnB, but like I said even that isn't that popular. I'm in Minnesota, US btw
  17. I never got in to Oakenfold either, even when I was more "in to" that scene. At least as far as his original music goes. He did have some great DJ sets though, and I still listen to his goa mix and Global Underground from time to time.
  18. Agreed It's the closest thing I've ever heard to goa without actually being "goa". They have some great melodies too, better than a lot of the stuff you hear in psytrance/goa. They also show it IS possible to combine guitar with electronic music without being cheesy. A lot of psytrance projects could learn a thing or two from them.
  19. I agree that song would be much better without the sample. I think the sample is from the movie "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" (Le scaphandre et le papillon) though, which was a good and very unique movie. To stay on topic though, I actually like some of the melodies/synths used in "normal" trance (not including the pop eurodance crap), but the beats are often a bit too cheesy/simplistic for me. I don't mean the beat has to be complicated, but it's nice when they at least change the sound of the beat instead of the same kick/hi-hat sample used for the entire song with no effects.
  20. I guess I'm in the minority that isn't really interested in Vinyl. I prefer digital (FLAC) downloads if possible, then CDs. For me it's about the music, not so much the packaging/collecting. I also don't DJ which is a common reason to get Vinyl. Not that I have anything against Vinyl. It would be nice if albums got released in as many formats as possible, but I guess a lot of these psy albums sell so few copies that it's not possible without losing money.
  21. Have you tried emailing the guy who made it (his address is on the video)? I have to say I still prefer the "official" video though. That video always tripped me out with the weird robotic movements.
  22. Amazing EP. I can't wait for a full album, though I suppose I'll have to This is some of the best goa I've ever heard. Ancient Race is easily a "track of the year" candidate. In fact, I think it's one of the best goa tracks of all time, and I don't say things like that unless I really believe it Even more amazing that it's a free download.
  23. Good post. I wouldn't say I've "rediscovered" the music really, but my tastes are always changing/evolving (not just psy either). Like a lot of people I got in to psy from Astral Projection, Infected Mushroom, Hallucinogen, etc. Anything that wasn't instantly catchy I just gave up on. But as time passes I find myself liking a wider and wider variety of trance. When I first heard "forest trance" in the form of Derango I couldn't stand it, but now I like a decent amount of it. It's also a matter of becoming more familiar with what exactly you are listening too. I had a couple Mandalavandalz albums, but never even knew it was "Suomi" until Oopie told me, which then inspired me to check out more Suomi, and now it's my favorite kind of trance. Changing tastes is a great thing. The more great music I can find the better
  24. I had a problem awhile ago where I had to convert from PCM to ACM WAV files in order to get them working. I used Cool Edit Pro to do it, but unfortunately Adobe bought them out and made it cost $350 (it used to be $40...). I've converted those files from PCM to ACM though, you can see if that works: http://jump.fm/MKIFF (Click where is says "Save file to your PC: click here", the big download buttons are just advertisements) Other than that I really don't know what the issue could be. Do other wav samples work for you? Or is just these 2 that don't?
  25. Wow I can't believe I missed this one last year. It's really amazing. I have a huge grin on my face the entire time listening to this. It's like a weird combination of Kettel, Talpa, and Juno Reactor or something. I'm not even sure how to classify it, except as fantastic Some of the singing is not exactly amazing, but it's used sparingly and it's easy to forgive with so many great melodies.
