  1. Yeah I'm just glad I discovered psy before IM started singing. That might have turned me off a bit.
  2. I was just exploring new types of music (as I am still doing ) around 2002. I was looking for some trance that wasn't "so repetitive" and someone on the tranceaddict forums recommended me some psy/goa (Astral Projection, MWNN, IM, Hallucinogen), and I was hooked. Hallucinogen - LSD in particular really blew me away and that's probably the track that made me realize how special psytrance could be. Not too long after that I discovered Shpongle (since Posford was involved with both) and the downtempo side of things, which I also fell in love with. I don't even listen to those artists for the most part anymore (with the exception of Posford's stuff ) but I'm really glad they introduced me to this vast amount of awesome music.
  3. Yeah I ordered yesterday too, I just hope the holidays don't slow down the shipping too much.
  4. Thanks for the recommendation, that sounds like a really good album. Great cover art too
  5. I couldn't play any psytrance at a party here because people don't like it, so that seems like a strange qualifier. If we are just picking newish albums then probably: Igor Swamp - Metsä Vastaa, Kuuleeko Suomi Terrafractyl - Chrysalis Tamlin - Spectrogram Artifakt - The Magus Kino Oko - Colours Hate Themselves (not sure if this is even considered psy) As soon as Sky Technology comes out with a full (trance) album I'm sure that'll be up there too.
  6. Well I'm not saying I'd buy it but the monkey-like pose is hard to take seriously.
  7. I like it Any idea when it's coming out? Psyshop still says TBA.
  8. I really think the whole metal/electronic comparison depends where you live. Around here (Minnesota, US) a lot of people don't even know there are different kinds of electronic music (it's all "techno" to them), and virtually no one listens to it outside of a club. Some young people know what dubstep is, but that's about it. Metal on the other hand is pretty popular, and even lesser known artists can get a decent crowd. I'd be happy if electronic music was even half as popular as metal here (although I love metal too).
  9. Is that actually meant to be cool or serious? It works okay if it's a joke but otherwise...
  10. I just heard this for the first time last night but it's really good IMO. It really has that oldschool vibe to it and the recording has that "warmth" to it, unlike many new tracks which seem to have a lot of hard edges to the sound. It would be interesting to know what they used for producing/recording. The 3rd track is a bit of a mess though I have to agree on that. It's not bad per say, it's just not very cohesive. I can't complain too much about free music though.
  11. Quality stuff as always from Artifakt, even if he added a "2" .To be honest it doesn't sound that different from "Artifakt" to me, although maybe a bit more "techno" like you said. Artifakt already sounds different from everything else though, so a big change wasn't needed. I agree about Pt2 being better, but Pt1 was good too (especially track 3). Artifakt is one of the few artists where I just know it's going to be good without even listening.
  12. And Chimpanzee's share 98% of human DNA. If a completely different species has only 2% difference in DNA, it seems that even the minutest changes in DNA can create big differences. Obviously there are much bigger factors in which music you enjoy though (if genetics even has an effect). I guess this is a very hard thing to study though. There are so many other factors that are impossible to control in any sort of scientific way (especially since there is so much about our brains we don't yet know).
  13. Do you guys/gals think there is a genetic component to which music we enjoy too? I have always been curious about this aspect. Obviously there are a lot of other important factors too, but I'm curious. The main reason I wonder is I find myself liking an unusually high amount of Scandinavian music for the number of people who live there, and it just so happens most of my ancestors are from Norway, Sweden, and Denmark (I'm 4th gen American though). I almost never know where a band/artist is from when first hearing them either, so I doubt I am just "biased". Maybe it's just a coincidence though.

    US Debt

Well I certainly don't think anyone believes it is that bad, but that doesn't mean it's GOOD either, or that we shouldn't try to change things. Maybe it's selfish, but my own nation's economy is a lot closer to my heart than Venezuela's too (not that I don't feel sympathy for people struggling everywhere). "We're not in as bad shape as Ethiopia" isn't exactly a great accolade.

    US Debt

Yep. It really makes us lose focus on creating actual goods/services too. People always talk about DOW or NASDAQ as if that is the measurement of our economy. People living on the streets or losing their homes don't give a shit if DOW went up 2 points. Totally agree with your post. We are just making the problem worse and extending the global recession by paying off the banks. We bailed out the banks in the U.S. and look how that has worked out. They pocketed all the cash and everyone else continues to get screwed, so we are headed for an even worse recession most likely. I can't see things changing without a major (almost revolutionary) revolt though. Wall Street is the biggest financier of almost all political campaigns, so don't expect the Republicans or Democrats to do anything more than make token gestures. The democrats are trying to co-opt the wall-street protests (to get votes in 2012), but Obama received more money from Wall Street than McCain. He does NOT have our interests in mind.
  16. Interesting. It seems women/men definitely have different hearing attributes (generally speaking of course), so that could certainly account for enjoyment of certain types of music more. I think we all know women's/men's minds work differently so I guess it's not surprising that we prefer different things. I've also heard women read more books, while men play more video games, for example. I have to wonder how much of it is societal as well. Let's face it, there is still prejudice against women even in fairly progressive countries (otherwise they wouldn't get paid less than men on average). I think many people would be surprised how much your brain can impact your hearing/perception too. Most people talk about speaker/headphones needing to be "broken in" for example, but it's actually their brain that is being broken in, getting used to the audio characteristics of that speaker. This is why most people think THEIR speakers sound better than others. P.S. They have done objective tests on "breaking in" headphones and the differences were extremely small (like 0.2dB in a given frequency). I don't think anyone has ever been able to hear that small of a dB difference in double-blind tests, yet we notice a BIG difference when breaking in headphones.
  17. I love that album, and the vocal/instrumental tracks are equally great, which doesn't happen too often.
  18. I have been completely addicted to this track lately for some reason: http://snd.sc/pUAxOS
  19. I used to love AP and they are one of the artists that got me in to goa, BUT I can't stand their music nowadays for some reason. The only track I ever want to maybe hear again is Ambience. The rest of it honestly just gives me a headache. It seems like it's just trying way too hard with the constant melodies and loud thudding kick. It's just really strange that I actually find it to be annoying now, when I used to enjoy it so much.
  20. My first exposure to electronic music was probably Nine Inch Nails, back when I was about 8-9 years old. It probably seems "dark" for my age, but I got started early, listening to old 45s of Miles Davis and stuff when I was 4 years old. My mother's favorite band was Black Sabbath too so it doesn't get much darker than that. The first more "dancy" stuff I heard was Orbital and The Prodigy (many have mentioned them I noticed). I still like quite a bit of Orbital's stuff, The Prodigy not so much.
  21. A lot of DT fans prefer their older stuff but I'm the opposite so I recommend any of their last 3 albums. That song I linked is from Systematic Chaos (2007), and they've had 2 albums since then; Black Cloud & Silver Linings (2009), and A Dramatic Turn of Events (Came out last week) Yeah I was using the media tags exactly that way and it didn't work for some reason. It was giving me some message about "too many media files" even when I was only embedding 1. It seems to working now though... Strange.
  22. I mainly listen to black/viking/progressive metal, but I'm open to other types. All the genre names are getting pretty ridiculous though. Apparently you can add "core" to the end of any word and it become a new type of metal though. Anyway, here's some of my favorite stuff: Progressive(ish)- http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkF4JD2rO3Q http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=Odx-Y78SQuw Black/Viking- Death (ish)- It won't let me link even 1 file directly in to this thread for some reason..
  23. Apparently the "invasion" is dudes sucking on long tubes wearing black leather.
  24. There seems to be a lack of women musicians in a lot of different genres, not just Psy. Rock, Blues, Jazz, Punk, Hip-Hop, Metal, Reggae, etc all seem to have mostly male musicians. There is a definite "nerd factor" to psy music though, since it requires a lot of fiddling with synths/computers. Why don't you go out and get laid instead of shitting on these threads?
  25. I have the same feelings about a lot of new goa being too "fluffy", but Sky Technology has really given me hope in the whole genre. He has released a couple of free EPs which you can find here and here. It's very melodic, but the melodies are darker than most. I really enjoy BlackStarrFinale as well. That Shiva3 album is really nice too, but I'm not sure I'd even call it goa.
