  1. Yes. I had an accident with some javex, it left me partially blind and smelling laundry fresh
  2. Discuss. Wanna hear your very favourite v.a./compilation albums and why.
  3. So of all you people who couldn't wait for the new Shpongle and decided to p2p, is it really worth all this hype that has amassed here in these forums? It's sort of achieved a mystical holy-grail appeal to me... Just curious to hear some feedback, aside from generalized praise. Any objective opinions? 4-star album? 5-star album? Anything that could have been done better?
  4. I can't understand people who hate Juno. Don't care for them? Maybe. But to say they aren't psy-trance.... well you must think psy-trance is only psy-trance if it's easy to mix into a full-on set... That's my impression of people who say it isn't psy-trance. Just because it doesn't sound like friggin' Alien Project doesn't mean it isn't psy-trance.
  5. The Unsane, a crazy noise-sludge-doom metal band from NY (I don't know how I would describe them, really) Right now I have been listening to 3 albums by them: The Singles 89-92 Lambhouse: The Collection 1991-1998 And their NEW album!!!!!!! Blood Run They are really cool, but you'll only like them if you like experimental heavy music.... In the vein of Eyehategod, Jesus Lizard and the heavier Alice In Chains stuff... They are definitely not mainstream/nu-metal
  6. It's pretty accurate to say Juno doesn't have a bad album Some are better than others But I'd say maybe all of them but one are at least 4 star albums (and I don't give out 4 and 5 stars very often) Transmissions Beyond The Infinite Bible Of Dreams Shango Labyrinth And, if you want to split hairs, Lu.ci-ana (or however it's spelled) BUT I didn't like Luciana as much as the others, it's more of a dark-ambient track, it's pretty cool, but I'd rather have one of the regular albums from JR... I know some people in here love that album off I think it's more of a collector's item than a good album
  7. I agree.... that track is one of my very, very favourite Juno tracks.... The ending is nice, but it's that beat, with the delay & reverb-drenched eastern instruments.... Really dub-influenced, now that I think about it, but unlike most other kinds of music I've heard. And it was co-written with Alex Patterson from The Orb (which explains a lot) Yesss think I'll go listen to it now I also have to mention God Is God SUPAAAJHJ NUMBAH 1 DANC#FLOOOOOR KILLL#AEAARGH
  8. I included Shpongle with Hallucinogen as required listening, for the reason that Shpongle isn't psy-trance but heavily psychedelic and is almost as known and respected as Hallucinogen. I figured it was only natural to include Shpongle's albums with Hallucinogen's. But I digress... my point is, that Shpongle isn't psy-trance Cool, I tried to stick to their main albums... I liked T.O.T.I. a lot, plus it's pretty popular as Shpongle releases go. But the remix album was good too, not knocking anything
  9. I dunno about the rest of you but to me Chemical Brothers & Crystal Method Are DEFINITELY T E C H N O o O o O o O o O o O o Shpongle on the other hand....
  10. Why do I love psychedelic? First of all the dance music (psy-trance, and other forms of electronic psychedelia, from the darker, trippier drum N' bass to dub) just takes you places that "normal," straight dance music can't. It's far less linear, there is so much more room for interpretation to the melody, sounds and arrangement. As was said, synaesthesia is the key. Being able to mainly, see the sounds, while dancing is such an intense experience and it gets you very involved because it's such a personal experience. As for just psychedelic in the general music sense, I love all music, some of my very favourite music isn't really that psychedelic (Alice In Chains, Slayer, Pantera), but psychedelic music is just great for the reasons I stated above. Listening to Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd or Tool just brings about this extra dimension to the music, it's very non-linear, personal and open to interpretation, practically every time you listen to it. It's kind of like music in 3D. And as for psychedelic outside of a musical sense, it can expand your mind in a sense, it can increase your ability to freely associate and find 'links' to things that may not be superficially connected. I think it can increase a person's artistic awareness and vision, it is a very personal thing, if done properly, psychedelic works (whether they are books, movies, paintings, sculptures, dances, poems, etc.) can bring inspire even more creativity, in a greater number of different perpectives! Hope this makes sense.... it usually never does when you ask these sorts of questions... And colours rule too--I tend to notice when I'm on a psychedelic that I can see just about all the colours at once, like I can practically will the colours forth, if I see red in my hands I'll just as easily see green, purple, blue, yellow, etc. It's pretty incredible stuff
  11. My picks for the 5 most influential Psy-Trance acts of all-time would be (in no order): Infected Mushroom Hallucinogen Astral Projection Juno Reactor X-Dream Infected Mushroom for their unique, crazy sound... constantly changing, morphing, with some of the most unique conflicting, converging psychedelic noise ever made. This style was/is copied to no end, and topped by few (if any). key albums: The Gathering (1999), Classical Mushroom (2000), B.P. Empire (2001) Hallucinogen for those distinct, hyper-psychedelic synth leads and epic song structures, one of the first true masters of the genre. Also Simon Posford's work in ambient project Shpongle is worth noting. key albums: Twisted (1995), The Lone Deranger (1997), Shpongle - Are You Shpongled? (1998), Shpongle - Tales Of The Inexpressible (2001) Astral Projection, the genre's first true superstars, brought psy-trance to the worldwide stage. They helped popularize "Morning Trance," a style that is typically epic and lighter in mood, with heavy emphasis on memorable melody. They have released some of Psy/Goa-Trance's most memorable anthems. key albums: Trust In Trance (1996), Dancing Galaxy (1997), Another World (1999) Juno Reactor was the first big cross-over Psy-Trance act, first fusing Goa-Trance with Techno, then moving towards world-influenced sounds and beats. Some of the first (if not the first) Psy-Trance to be featured in big-name Hollywood movies (Mortal Kombat, The Matrix), JR's influence has been felt in Industrial music as well. key albums: Beyond The Infinite (1995), Bible Of Dreams (1997), Shango (2000) X-Dream was the Psy-Trance act whose album "Radio" marked perhaps the true point where this music stopped being referred to as "Goa-Trance" and became "Psy-Trance." Popularizing the "big bassline" and minimalist Tech-Trance styles, X-Dream has become one of the most copied acts in the genre today. key albums: We Created Our Own Happiness (1997), Radio (1998), Irritant (2002) I'm sure the experts here are probably wondering why this is necessary... But there are lots of newbies on here that need to hear what made this music what it is. I just got listening to some classics today and felt this post was necessary. And of course you can debate my picks and points.
  12. I love it bro!!!! Fuckin eh man!!! Those pics are just great!! Most places here won't let you bring a camera into the place for shows. I'll have to remember to not wear my best clothes, hehehehe Wow it really looks like a wicked time, can't wait to see them myself!!! Soon soon soon!!!
  13. This festival sounds wicked, I'm gonna do everything in my power to be there!!! BTW DJs Jarek and Yeb are excellent, seen em a bunch of times at parties in Toronto and the Om festival... I liked Quivering Virgin better though for some reason. Too bad he's not on the lineup. Lots of big-name psy acts, it's gonna be a fuckin great time!!!
  14. Juno Reactor - Pistolero was very well done! I also liked Dark Soho - Depth of Emotion, that last bit where it gets all heavy... kinda cheesy, but just sick, at the same time
  15. Does it have to be psytrance? Well I've listened to Talpa - The Art of Being Non, even though it came out a while ago, and at first I didn't think it was that great, but it's grown on me! In subtle ways I can't really describe. A four-star album, and trust me its better the second time you listen to it. Personal faves? Well, the first track to really grab me was flybeereligion, but then after that I finally started to dig the rest of it. Now most of the tracks are great to me. Other albums I've been listennig to lately (non-psy) are: Pantera - Vulgar Display Of Power (yeah I just love this album, it's getting very heavy rotation at the moment, lots of great songs) Converge - You Fail Me (incredible hardcore metal, very deep and incredibly honest, emotional and brutal, and the album seems to tell a story as it goes on) Mr. Bungle - California (One of Mike Patton's best albums, it's not as wild and crazy as other Mr. Bungle albums but it is still just fantastic. I recommend it to anyone who likes their music left of centre Pure randomness, fun, weird, original, and well... weird)
  16. I think this thread is total crap. If a thread is worth reading and responding to, it will continue on at the top, and more useless posts will eventually drag down to the bottom and be forgotten. I think you do have a point, as there's plenty of posts that are useless information, but these forums are for sharing of opinions, and as long as people aren't being totally disrespectful towards others, I don't see why it should be a problem. Besides, most threads don't end with the same topic as they begin anyways, so what's it matter?
  17. For me, it's The Gathering and Classical Mushroom all the way. Call Infected crap if you want, but those two albums are simply amazing. You can do so much better than IM The Supervisor, by listening to those two albums. Incredible classics. Psy nowadays only tries to emulate that stuff (and fails miserably) (think Talpa - Art of Being Non, which is still a great album btw) I do think they can do better than their last few albums. IM sucked, I'm sorry... but then most artists who release great, influential albums usually only release a couple before they slide into mediocrity. Even the masters start to suck after a while (Black Sabbath, Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica, KISS, Orbital, Prodigy, Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam, KMFDM, the Offspring, Ramones, etc.) I'm not saying the old styles have to be revived for the music to be good again. Any artist can progress their sound and still sound good. But some lose it, some don't.
  18. There's been worse album covers. Maybe not in psytrance, or in any electronic music. Gettin' jiggy with the Reverend of Rhythm... I wish to make love to the full spectrum of the fire in your eyes... Only if she buys the drinks. OK I have to stop there are thousands really...
  19. I suggest some classic Wizzy Noise! Well it's techy... but it's good, might be what you're looking for. Very rhythmic and pounding stuff. Stereo Electric (2004) Elecktro Theatre (2003) Cyclotron (2002) Cybermancy (2000) I'd give their first 2 albums (Cyclotron, Cybermancy) a try. Although they all are pretty good I think... This is definitely different than house/breaks.
  20. I picked groovy, because without groove psychedelic music can be vague and directionless, and rhythmic and full power don't have any style. Minimal, Goa (tantric) and melodic can all be fine really on their own, but they don't make your ass shake without the grĂ¼v Also with other kinds of music too... Metal needs a groove to be truly good (though I like Dillinger Escape Plan which definitely doesn't sit on a groove), rock is best with at least some sort of groove (even Tool has a groove at times) Music without a groove is like a caged gerbil without an exercise wheel.
  21. Hey guys, I've posted this question a long time ago, and since there are a lot of new faces, maybe someone can recommend to me any good dark psychedelic jungle/ drum n bass? I'm not too familiar with most of it happening right now. I'm looking for stuff similar to Dom + Roland, or even any good drum n bass such as Squarepusher, LTJ Bookem or Roni Size... But preferably something dark, LOUD and trippy I'm not really a fan of most stuff going on, but I like any electronic music that is edgy, dark and trippy. Bring forth your suggestions, please!
  22. ummm dark psy? How about Delta, Dark Soho, Xenomorph, Battle of the Future Buddhas? Spirallianz even? Even Juno Reactor, Infected Mushroom and X-Dream have some pretty dark tracks as well. And happy psy? Astral Projection anyone? or maybe Infected Mushroom? Astrix, as cybernetika said? Neutral psy will be harder... or maybe the ones I mentioned for lighter psy are more neutral psy... Let us know your decisions when it is done!
  23. Shango is way overrated, it's Junos worst album up to date.It does contain a few gems, (masters of the universe, song for ancestors) but that's not enough to make it better than other Juno albums. I don't know about that... It's definitely not psytrance in the linear sense (as in, it can't really be mixed into a DJ set). But then most JR isn't. Labyrinth and Shango are sort of cut from the same cloth, they are more expanded into world music and there isn't too many tracks that are speedy, pumped up psytrancefests. More like just. good. music. Track picks from Shango~ Pistolero (gotta love the progressing melody, spanish guitars and samples) Masters Of The Universe (that female vocal kind of gets on my nerves though) Nitrogen Part 1 (with Alex Patterson; best track on the album! One of the best electronic psychedelic tunes from the last 5 years. I love everything about this track!) Nitrogen Part 2 (more standard track; just a cool driving track, nice bassline) Song For Ancestors (more of a deep slow spiritual track, eastern melodies, nice arrangement of rhythms)
  24. unikos-empty space, dont you like even a bit, at least the first from x-dream's new album ? ? come on... its not bottom of the bin ; ) Well, the topic asked for average psy trance.... I don't think of bad psy as average... it's bad... average psy is simply average psy. Not good. Not bad. X-Dream's new album? A few decent tracks. Also some bad ones. Average album. Maybe I ought to have mentioned Infected's latest album. That one hurts more than X-Dreams'
