  1. Well, I am always getting into different bands and music, and then sometimes my new interests push away old interests... I have a ton of old CD's I never listen to anymore (EBM, top-40 rock CD's, hair-metal, early-industrial albums like Throbbing Gristle, Einsturzende Neubauten, cheesy metal like White Zombie, etc) And I currently listen to music I thought I'd never like when I was younger like punk, hardcore metal, psy/hard techno (went thru a bunch of different phases when teenager, first grunge rock, then goth, Neu-hippie, then punk and now a sort of metalhead-punk-rocker... Had an identity crisis for a long time hahaha) My taste in drugs hasn't changed much though, aside from slowing down (big time) in usage... LSD, MDMA, THC, Psilocybin, Caffeine, and a good old friend named Ethyl-alcohol!
  2. So you can see who's posting/lurking here with you, except in a nutshell.
  3. I'm sure I'm incorrect in spots there or am omitting some crucial bits of info, but then everybody has got a couple of their facts wrong re: history of electronic music
  4. A Very Generalized Techno Tree: Early-Late 70's = Kraftwerk --> Late 70's = Disco (not naming names for this abomination...) --> Late 70's = Early Industrial music (Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire) Late 70's-Mid 80's = Synth Pop, New Wave (New Order, Depeche Mode) --> Early-Late 80's = Industrial (Skinny Puppy, Front 242) Mid-Late 80's = Detroit Techno (Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson) --> Mid-Late 80's = House (see Disco...) Late 80's-Early 90's = Techno (good stuff) Late 80's-Early 90's = Trance (yikes, not the Goa stuff!) Late 80's-Early 90's = Acid House (good stuff) And then all hell breaks loose... Early-Late 90's = Ambient (The Orb, Aphex Twin) Early-Mid 90's = D'n'B Early-Mid 90's = Goa Trance Mid 90's = IDM (Autechre, Aphex Twin) ...And so on... Cross-pollination of different genres reaches total saturation during mid-late 90's... Tech-House... Drill n Bass... Psy-Trance... Juan Atkins was in Model 500, making early techno-ish sounds around 1985. Also should be noted is Psychic TV's influence in house techno and trance, especially around the later 80's, and especially with Acid House in the late 80's-early 90's.
  5. ??? I always thought that psy was best with like (high bass) (medium mid) (high high-end) That's the way I usually listen to music anyways... any screenshots of the "perfect" EQ for psy? like w/ winamp or something?
  6. Ben Watkins recorded Luciana prior to Transmissions, it was a soundtrack that accompanied an installation art performance called "The Missile Project". It was released later on after the first album. I don't know what the fuss is about I've heard it before and I wasn't really impressed at the time... I think their other albums are better...
  7. here in Toronto I don't think there are enough people still interested in much more than the cliquey back-scratching schmoozathons with booze or drugs involved Yeah I agree I used to hit BLA parties here (they were/are awesome), go to Om Festival (which apparently won't happen ever again... for better and for worse)... But man Toronto's psy/goa scene S-U-C-K-S. There used to be many cool people at these parties, but now it's like any big-club atmosphere... And it seems they never happen now (maybe only a few times a year?) Often I think the only thing seperating psy/goa from candy-ravers and junglists nowadays is the style of music, even the people are all looking alike now... Or maybe its just me... But where are all the hippes in this city now? Did the cold kill them? Did they move away? Or did they just find another place to chill and not tell me? hehheh And is it me or are most "psy" nights often tied into industrial/goth/ebm now (DarkRave anyone? )? I have had an incredibly hard time finding a real, psy/goa-only party, or ANY party with a major psy area..... (save for new years parties) I'm curious to travel and (hopefully) check out psy scenes in other countries (where I hear its better)
  8. Maybe psynews should add a personals forum
  9. I've used Reason 2.5 a bunch of times, but this update doesn't look too impressive (aside from the combo and mastering tools), I really wish the damn program would let you record something and mix it in...
  10. Tetraktys I happened to see Tetraktys at Om Festival 2003! I thought it was a damn good set... Impressed me big-time... Though I couldn't fully enjoy the set as I was sort of unpleasantly tripping out on mushrooms at the time... But I remember how rockin the set was! For me, the one fave would be Infected Mushroom for their first 2 albums, but I would also add that Juno Reactor and X-Dream are mighty close... Delta is damn good too, maybe in that group with the release of their next album? Also hoping for a new Xenomorph sometime...
