  1. Of course you don't need preparation any more than you need to be able to juggle, and nobody is saying you do. The girl in that video isn't forcing other people to prepare their dances, she's just performing (and doing it well). So why criticise her for it?
  2. Welcome to psynews, darkill. New reviewers are greatly appreciated.
  3. I got an embarrassing total of four:
  4. I don't know that that's true - there are DJ acts that people pay attention to, and occasionally there are threads about them on psynews. Here's a recent one. Not at all, but you're not alone in thinking this. Many people complain about Goa Gil's mixing, for example (his live mixing, that is - I've only heard his mixing on albums, which is fine, but apparently he mixes badly live), and they wouldn't do so if they didn't expect better.
  5. Do you object to the people at parties doing fire poi, or contact juggling? Do you imagine those people didn't practice beforehand? If you answered "no" to both of those questions, why do you think dancing is any different? I can't dance well and probably wouldn't bother even if I could, but I don't see why anyone would object to people who can and do. We should be grateful that they've made the effort.
  6. I haven't got any autographs but I've approached artists to talk to them a few times (e.g. Autechre, Kindzadza, Raja Ram, Laughing Buddha, Polyphonia; I'm only including people I didn't already know from fora). They never seem to mind. RR and LB were particularly friendly.
  7. I've thought for a while that it would be good if more DJ's tried this kind of thing. I'm not a fan of fullon but your mixing is very impressive.
  8. ^ I agree completely, although there's no need to single out dance music in this respect - it's true of music generally.
  9. I'm unemployed and have been for four years, but I've only been actively looking for work for a couple. Had a job interview yesterday.
  10. look look look
  11. Sorry. I didn't mean to patronise you, it's just that folk artists often use archaic language and I don't know how recognisable that is to a non-native speaker. I'm British. I'm only familiar with the Finnish band because of this internet meme.
  12. Who, me? The first track is in Farsi (probably), the third is in Finnish (probably), and the other two are in English. Nor do I, it's just not to my taste.
  13. I'm as confused as you are. All I know is that Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites is a Skrillex track.
  14. Impulse purchase (it's less than $4 on psyshop):
  15. I think that depends a lot on the artist. For example, I expect the choice of colours would have been much more important to someone like Rothko than someone like Mucha (many of whose works were posters that were mass-produced and that therefore varied from print to print). Similarly, I think individual timbres are more integral to some psytrance artists (e.g. those who make minimal or early darkpsy) than others (e.g. those who make melodic Goa). I'm not saying that the choice of sounds is not at least somewhat important for all artists, just that Trip Tonite would still be Trip Tonite with different synths, whereas this KDD track would be nothing if it were made by someone without KDD's knack for creating cool timbres.
  16. I apologise for coming across as overly insulting. That's what I was doing? Actually I'm British (though I do have German blood).
  17. This seems to be yet another bug in the mobile skin. If anyone finds themselves stuck in the mobile skin on their desktops, read this thread for a workaround.
  18. I like triplets too. I think the video's point is that they are overused, though.
  19. The music is nice enough, but I don't like the guy's voice. But then I prefer my folk/world music with female vocalists anyway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-Mn4vWhjQ8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9gCN9-Jnfg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pR9Fi9j47o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN_LVJ_gH8c
  20. The video was created by Loud.
  21. No, my dancing is nowhere near as good as hers. Luckily for me, though, the kind of people who go to the same parties as me are not going to judge me on the quality of my dancing, or how I dress, or my haircut, or any other stupid shit like that. Sure. We wouldn't want your friends to know that you associate with people who dance the wrong way, would we? These are the same friends who you said would take the piss if you started using an Android phone instead of an iPhone, I assume? You're welcome to them. I know, right? They could at least have come up with "Psychael Jackson".
  22. I think they release forest Goa like BotFB and Ka-Sol.
  23. If old-schoolers are in the habit of sneering at how others dance then the "new" psy sound is exactly what they deserve.
  24. I can't take credit, it was Yerg's creation IIRC.
