  1. Children of the Bong - Life on Planet Earth Just so RIGHT every once in a while!
  2. I used to "follow" old goa trance. Nowadays I don't follow any special genre, just listen to what seems interesting and play it again if it sounds nice.
  3. 10.000 days just for Vicarious, Jambi, The Pot and Right in Two. Lateralus might be better as a whole though...
  4. This little argument has become very interesting. I can see how CD may feel better, but for me, I would take it as an intellectual insult to myself if I wouldn't be able to enjoy music regardless of format. Medium changes, message prevails. And about the piracy thing; I'm with both sides, sort of. Sure downloading stuff is disrespectful and evil. But such things do happen, and it's up to the company to decide whether they are going to take advantage of the situation (and change the business model, as Buzzwanker or whoever said) or just keep clinging to "the good old days".
  5. I'd rather have something about psychedelic drugs or space. The religion seems a bit tacked on (but can be very nice if incorporated into something about drugs or space). Most preferrably no samples though!
  6. No, it's actually quite a useful quick description. Most people have an idea what "gay" music sounds like, and will most likely avoid it. Of course it's to be taken with a grain of salt, as is every personal opinion (other than your own )
  7. Prometheus' latest album was good. Also Merr0w and Khetzal.
  8. Anyone got any suggestions except for the obvious artist albums (BPC, GNOTR, Darshan etc)?
  9. Perhaps it's made with account for haas effect to enable "real" stereo in headphones? Though that would sound really weird on speakers.
  10. Why are you insulting my patience? It is not relevant. Yes, only crappy music is boringly repetitive. This boring repetition is, to me, one of the key restraining factors in the psytrance genre. I admit that limitations may spawn creativity, but the limitations must adhere to an exciting and fresh formula. Eternal build-ups gets a little old.
  11. I'm not saying I dislike long tracks. However, most goatrance isn't intelligently composed. Maia is an exception in that regard. Most of them are full of bland repetition and are long just for the sake of being long. And how does it require more thought to stick to an 8-minute formula than a 3-minute formula? It's not like psytrance tracks often have fleshed out ideas and take you somewhere interesting. (all IMO, of course *guard up*)
  12. For me goa was always about the melodies. Sure, it can be very hypnotic is done well but when the structure is drums-noises-more noises-main theme-noises, I'd rather do without the noises parts. That's just crazy Nah, they just don't have the goa melodies. I'm beginning to feel a bit radi now, heh.
  13. 1. Constant build-ups and uninteresting BP-filtered "scratch" noises, generic arpeggios. Mostly everything that might seem like it tells a story but really is just placeholder.Tracks that abandon this altogether tickle my fancy, like "Maia" or "Asterope" by Pleiadians. Other tracks actually make use of repetition to create hypnosis. TIP and Electric Universe were good at this. 2. The length stigma. Related to (1) in that there seems to be some need for the long, epic, storytelling movements. Why can't someone make a catchy goa killer that's 4 minutes and doesn't need to be longer? Most tracks contain way less than they extend. This is mostly about goa, which is not as dependant on the hypnotic effect as psytrance generally is. 3. The shallow pseudo-spiritual aspect. Space is fucking cool. I like songs about space. Or weird psychological disorders. Tracks about achieving nirvana through eastern symbolism makes no sense in a genre which is dependant on oomph and catchy melodies. And besides, the space/cyber metaphor is way better even for that, since the music is made by computers. 4. Samples in general. I'd like a psytrance with shorter tracks, more individual variation, less arbitrary mumbo jumbo track titles and samples, and focus on actual evolution. Goatrance must have been so fresh when it came. Not much so these days. But I feel the musical format really has potential to evolve in awesome directions.
  14. This album is growing on me when I listen to it as music instead of as trance music, if you get my point. Not searching for cool percussive rhythms or amazing lines, just going with the flow. It's really nice and atmospheric. Rise Up to the Sun in particular is full with storming lead melodies that don't go over the top. Merr0w has his own, somberly understated melodic repertoire. This is perfectly in line with the underwater concept. Great album!
  15. Zybex - Surreal Energy http://www.discogs.com/Zybex-Surreal-Energy/release/1239615 Especially the first track which is dark and a bit proggy/goa crossover. The rest is melodic full-on (with capital full and on).
  16. Planet BEN - Ant Invasion comes to mind. Haven't managed to interpret most dark psy as anything but pretty noises yet.
  17. Ooh it's on Spotify. I'm off to listen
  18. I hereby recommend album "Stealth" by Scorn. A very gritty and dark dubstep thing.
  19. This was a very good post! However, regarding the naivety of psytrance crowd, I'll just tell you to accept the fact that most people really aren't very smart. It kinda becomes more obvious when they're trying, though, instead of just blindly following social order. Agree? I myself have developed similar kinds of values but on a totally unrelated tangent than my psytrance interest. Never hung out with psytrance crowd really, just music for me. Though I engage in some related activities anyway
  20. This is intriguing. Care to tell more?
