  1. Wtf does leaking of an album have to do with not releasing it? That's just dumb. What did that accomplish? So when the LP comes out the same thing will happen and what then, cancel it too and promise triple LP? That makes no sense, there must be something else going on. Tons of albums leak out before their release and it's the first time I hear of one being canceled, now people who previewed it and liked it and were going to buy can't buy it so who wins?
  2. Incredible album but what does it have to do with being German?
  3. Yeap by other technologies I meant rotary woofer but you won't see them in any clubs.
  4. No normal subwoofer can play anything under 20Hz, even 20Hz is too much for a club woofer. There are technologies to produce under 20Hz frequencies but it makes no sense most of the time.
  5. You told me in another thread that you've never done a test before What you are talking about is not testing. placebo, placebo, placebo, did I mention placebo? Do this, invite a friend and play both lossless but do what you do normally when playing those files like one is mp3 the other one is not. Guess what, your friend will choose one over the other even though they are identical. demo != test. 128 kbps has loss that most people can tell on decent equipment. Proper 192 is close to transparent on most trance music. It IS individual, not just can be. Your 'I haven't found anyone who can't tell' tells me that your 'demo' has nothing to do with a real test. Stop pretending and do a real test, rip properly with EAC, compress properly into V0 with lame and play using ABX (winabx, foobar, etc), try it on your friends, if you find anyone who can tell the difference much over chance then you have someone with EXCEPTIONAL ears and if they are still not in the music/sound business they are wasting their talent.
  6. Heh, there's tons of research in that area too Music perception and cognition. I agree with you that if you have ability to keep lossless everything than that's the way to go, I believe I said that it was the future. What I am talking about is that if it's physically impossible for you to hear a sound then you won't 'feel' it (well if we are going into philosophy here then obviously science goes out the window ). Sound compression is not designed by idiots, it has been getting better and better every year (remember, mp3 is quite open so people can keep improving the compression) and newer formats like aac/ogg have even better quality/size ratios. Once again, I do believe that lossless is the future and if you have the ability then you should definitely have your DJing library in that format. Having said that, 99% of people will not be able to tell lossless vs lossy (properly compressed) because there is nothing to tell, it's called transparency. Don't hate on computer DJs because of sound because that's a non-issue (unless they are completely incompetent with their library, which to think of it now I am sure quite a few of them are).
  7. Proper MP3s will not do anything to those vibrations, once again, research mp3 compression. You won't hear 20Hz but you will feel it, no question here. I am talking about high end (khz), that's where mp3s do their cutoffs. No question I am the best baseball player in the world even though I've never played. I am awesome with a ball so I am SURE of it! That's your argument. If you never ABXed you have NO CLUE about sound differences. It's not a statement, it's a fact. What your brain tells you vs reality is very different. Not at all. There is no giant difference. Only on some 'difficult' recordings can you hear ANY difference. You know like jazz with trumpets, harps, etc I said it before and I'll say it again, you will not hear any difference in 99% of tests on trance music. I do not need to admit anything, I am telling you what research has shown and I am going on what I've seen proven scientifically (you know like research and testing) vs what you think you hear. How can you possibly know that for a fact if you've never been tested? Once again the argument of I know for a fact that I'm an awesome car mechanic since my father is. You also don't know about the vast majority, I do. I've ran tests, I've seen results, what you are going on is just what you think is happening without any basis for it whatsoever. This is fine, obviously if you can have lossless then it's great but if for some reason it's a pain then maybe you can disappoint 1 person out of a 1000 for 3 seconds of an mp3 imperfection that they can discern. Maybe your issue is improper compression. You obviously are not too interested in the topic and just write it off as irrelevant so you might not understand that mp3 compression is quite open and different codecs do different things. I am talking about properly compressed mp3s, not some stuff that was ripped/compressed incorrectly and thus has obvious problems. Do you want to humble yourself? Do a real ABX test, I can help you set that up. I guarantee you that if we pick 10 trance tracks at random (very low chance of getting a 'difficult' sound) and do a test with properly compressed mp3s then I can show you that you can't tell them apart and will be within guessing range. Remember, you've never tested yourself, everything else is called placebo. Until you know for sure the rest means nothing, we all exaggerate our abilities but there are tests to prove us wrong.
  8. People lie to themselves to make them feel better, that's what I meant. I am not mad at all, why would I be? And there we go you just proved everything I said Maybe some people can't hear the difference between 192 vs 320? I will bet you that MOST people will not hear the difference (been tested and proven). 128 has too much loss, I am not arguing that. 160vbr can be good (on a portable probably can't tell the difference). Again, I will BET you that in 99% of cases you can't tell the difference between wav (any lossless) and 320kbps or I'll do one better, wav vs V0 VBR. How can I be so sure? I can see from your post that you aren't exactly sure what lossy compression is really like and in most cases that means placebo ftw. By the way, how exactly do you ABX in itunes? I never knew that was possible. You know what ABX is, right? I have no problem with what you say, I just don't want you to fool yourself. Let me ask you this, can you hear a 19khz tone? a 20khz tone? I am talking really hear it not look at the tone when it's playing and say you can hear it. Lowpass filter of a decently compressed mp3 is over 19khz so I'm curious if you can hear the tone at all. For the sake of argument I tested myself last night and my limit is in mid 18ks. As to the thorns, it's fine, if I can humble another 'audiophile' it's all worth it. Next time he will do the same to someone else and both will enjoy the music instead of pretending. By the way, I am not a DJ, I've worked in sound research for many years (including hearing implants and so on) so I'm a bit more qualified than most DJs to talk about sound perception. Obviously you can be that tiny percentile of the population that actually has animal-like hearing but as we found out most of those people have no clue about their hearing ability so I like my chances here. Please don't take this personally, this same conversation applies to tons of people. It is a humbling experience when you do a real test and realize that you do have limits and maybe you should just enjoy music instead of thinking that you are hearing something that's not really there (or not hearing something that's there). It's a bit of an ego bruise first but once you get over it you will actually enjoy more music/parties because you will let go of that silly notion that somehow as soon as computer touched music it becomes inferior.
  9. It is two different bands but the same person with last name Matenda
  10. How I would love to do a blind test on you guys to prove to you the power of placebo It's funny that in our experiments the best hearing came from people who had no clue about it, and all the 'yeah I can tell the difference between 192kbps and 193kbps' people failed on the most basic tests. We can all agree to disagree but I've worked in sound psychology for many years and I've learned a few things there that most people don't know or care to know. Oh yeah, to the guy who said he can tell vinyl vs cd so he can tell cd vs mp3, do you know anything about how music is stored? You can tell the difference between vinyl and cds because of analog (groove on a record) vs digital (digital data stored as thousands of discrete snapshots), it's MUCH easier to tell that difference vs two digital formats. I'm sure even when 24bit audio (192Khz) is the norm you will still scream how easily you can tell the difference. Go do a blind test, you can lie on the boards but you can't lie to yourself.
  11. Nope, it's progressive. Now I am curious about the chill project
  12. Speakers alone don't make the sound, other factors like preamp, speaker placement, room acoustics and such have a lot to do with it. There is a reason headphones can sound better than speakers even though they are 1/10th of the price. Speaker based system has to work much harder to combat all the sound movement. In a club with a crowd and if you are moving and so on you'd have to have absolutely incredible hearing to distinguish between compressed (properly) and uncompressed audio. I seriously believe that in 99% of trance music the only way you would be able to tell is in very good headphones and with good hearing. Enjoy your hearing while you can, age does sad things to your ears, I really hope I still have quite a while to go before mine starts deteriorating.
  13. I'd say FLAC (and other lossless) is the future, not mp3s. By the time computer DJs become overwhelming majority drive space will be so cheap that space taken by FLAC over mp3 won't be an issue. To those who think they can hear sound difference between a proper 192 (V2/V0 vbr) and 320 and wave maybe you should do a blind test and see, you'd be very surprised that what you read from snobs about 'lack of color' of mp3s might not actually be true. You will not hear it on a sound system in a club, it's just not happening, maybe in very good headphones if you have perfect hearing. I worked in sound research for a long time and while I seem to have been blessed with very good hearing (from the tons of experiments that we've conducted) I still can't pass blind tests with properly ripped high quality mp3s on any of my equipment. Obviously there are some tracks that will 'beat' mp3 compression but the chances of that within trance music are VERY low. So don't fool yourself about sound quality, other than that I can't make a call about computer DJs not being real DJs.
  14. I agree with you, my first thought was Vibrasphere. It's pretty obvious. I know prog uses a lot of sidechaining but this one is exactly the same as Vibrasphere,
  15. Ok are you sure we are talking about the same Matenda here? I am guessing Chilling Matenda is his ambient project and Matenda is prog. I've never heard the chilling one but have 2 of the prog ones and in my opinion Natural Development is much better than Tunnel Vision.
  16. Haven't heard that one, sorry. p.s. is it good? If it's at least as good as this one I'll probably get it, it's just really relaxing
  17. Yeah it's an incredible cover, too many people forget what psychedelic really is.
  18. I don't really see what this album has to do with psychedelic but otherwise it's a very light relaxing background music
  19. Nexus

    Asura - Life²

Check them out, imho Lost Eden is their best album and one of the top chill releases of all times.
  20. Nexus

    AMD - Big Fish

Tried three times to go through the whole album, failed all three, I get bored quickly with this one.
  21. In my opinion still top 5 release of the year. I don't understand how anyone can call this generic. My ears must be hearing something that's not there.
  22. Yeah 'some' (in this case actually most) people don't subscribe to elite 'we' mentality and enjoy the music for what it is. I know it's considered cool here to diss tip and 1200 but I think at least 3 songs on that album are absolutely brilliant. This is the stuff that moves dance floors and not the cool/intellectual/underground/whatever bs. Give music a chance, it's there to enjoy. Sorry, had to get that off my chest, I'm so tired of that psynews 'we' bandwagon.
