Koxbox was my first experience with goatrance and the "Flashback EP" which was released a little bit earlier the first record of this genre I ever owned. Koxbox was the reason why I discovered this kind of music and the only reason why I discovered Koxbox was that the Harthouse label was popular at this time. Harthouse released all kinds of electronic music but there was not much goa on it beside Koxbox. Some others I remember were LSD by "Calyptol Inhalant" on a limited 10'' and the Afrotrance EP.

I got Evolution - Oscillating Phenomena, I already had the vinyl. But why not have it on cd also. =)) I just love this track. Hallucinogen - The Singles Remastered. I had to get it for Strangled Cat, that track is only on this one, and for Solstice (Early Mix) since I didn't had that one in my Posford collection before. It's on a Flying Rhino compilation, so not exclusive to this vinyl box like Strangled Cat. =))

I remember the first time I heard this was a friend of mine playing the cd in late 93 as we hung out on the weekend on his smallholding outside of town. He said that he did not like it much, but I remember thinking that it was not only the most spiritual techno (my only term at that time to describe this kind of music) that I had so far heard, but also a lot tougher than many other techno albums. It was also prepared to be emotionally open and expansive in a way that lots of other techno was not. The cover struck me as almost like the otherworldly cover you might find on a prog rock album, or something from Klaus Schulze or Tangerine Dream. I couldn't forget this album, and sought it out and other music of this "tough spiritual techno" ilk. Little did I know that this was set to be an epic journey. Today this remains my favourite Juno Reactor album. I have all, or close to all, their music, but this is the best to my ears. I have a special love for the winding, multiple changes of "Man to Ray", but all the tracks are good and quite similar, even though each one has its own flavour. The result is an album with a sense of yearning for the stars, the transcendental, the alien. I find it the most coherent, hypnotic and ethereal work by this artist, and one of the best sounding too (perhaps because it is relatively simple in structure and design). No doubt it is quite primitive compared to the later albums, which are all excellent in their own ways, but this one really hangs together. It also played a significant role in the development of Goa trance, coming so early on in the genre and hence influencing many musicians. ~*~
