i cant even express my own opinion about the movie cause it would destroy the whole sense of watching it, in case if some of you have, it's a sick movie and one of the rare movies that u just cant predict, it has a story that will put u under a strong dilema

Yet another disappointing movie from my all time favorite director, Martin Scorses. Just when will this guy stop making movies we would like to see and go back to making movies we need to see?

Shutter Island starts out on a good note. Creepy, mysterious, giving information out of a medicine dropper. I won't give any spoilers, but this is where it all went wrong for me: I was hoping for a well pulled off macabre thriller, a chef d'oeuvre of suspense and tension building, and instead I got a wannabe deep and thought provoking trip down one's psyche, and a battle for one's sanity. Sigh...

But OK, if anyone deserves the attention and all the fame, it's Martin Scorsese. Not only has Paramount "graced" him with a 10,000,000$ four year contract, and not only has "The Departed" on its own earned more than his entire seventies filmography combined, he still has this urge of making likeable pictures, something that will be in the public's (and the critics) eye for a longer time.

Too bad. My expectations were soooooooooooo much higher after all the Oscar hype and three consecutive Hollywood blockbusters... I am just glad that 30 years of immaculate film making has finally earned him a well deserved pension.

Masterpiece 10/10 :)

This movie is dope and a lot deeper that what you are served on a platter at the end. Requires multiple viewings to really grasp the depth of the plot. sheer brilliance a la Scorsese.

OMG!!! Had it not been for some random recomendation I would've totally walked passed this one. The BEST movie I've seen in a loooong time!! 10/10

Of course, anyone who's been on the edge of madness with the help of certain hmm... substances will totally relate to this movie IMO.

I don't really agree with all the ratings, but maybe that's just me. I liked the movie, but same as Rino, I expected something deeper to develop after the beginning.

I suspect this movie will be interesting to watch a second time as well, but the way the plot turned out wasn't completely unexpected to me and was kind of a letdown. Something else that struck me was that the protagonist (DiCaprio) didn't totally engage me. I wasn't feeling all that emphathetic with him... could've been me as well, of course, but I felt like something was lacking.

well like that was the whole point of the movie IMO: it starts out like some predictable film noir and then takes us to places we didn't expect at all (at least I didn't expect them...)

first time i saw it I was half asleep, stoned out on hashish and didn´t like it much, thoought it was boring plus I watched some of it with eyes closed ..

Second time I saw it I snorted a not to long but long enough liner of Ketamin (jeje, what you gonna do, judge me?) and was blown away. It´s pretty much a very intelligent movie that drags the viewer into the world of the nutter (Leonardo). So funny to see him with his too large detective jacket seeing him loose it not knowing where he stands and the scene with the lady in the cave, some of those moments, wooaw, really intense mind stuff when viewed with brain. I´d give it a 8.5/10, which is good, right? Ok maybe 9, but thats because of the Ket  ... sad to see him slipping away, actually, it´s very sad to see anyone or even yourself slip away. Good movie in all angles (directed, actors, script .. )

[...] and didn't like DiCaprio in the first place

but the older he gets, the better. I appreciate him more and more as an actor...

Same here.

On the subject of Scorsese, the only films of his I like are the ones that aren't stereotypically Scorsese-like, e.g. Shutter Island and The King of Comedy.

Yes, he started as that 'boy zone" group kid, but the older he gets,

the more his acting becomes a bit more psycho/lunatic,

a bit similar to johnny depp's performance but in a less funny way.

he tends to create a mystique atmosphere around the different rolls he plays.

It all kinda started in the aviator or even before, I think.

I'm not a film specialist at all, but I do like that tiny psycho effect when I see it in actors like johnny depp for instance.

A bit off topic, but still...
