  1. I agree entirely psytones... on both the music and psychedelic drug dreams. Tormentuous = torturous.
  2. Yeah, it appears that it's only possible to do it from arrangement... damn.
  3. Hahah.... just saying it should be seen as a hobby, not a realistic career choice.
  4. How about they just give up and close up shop... seriously. What do these companies do? What was their purpose and business model? Distribution. Aren't they a bit obsolete with the advent of the Internet...? And if people are making music for wealth and fame, they've lost their way.
  5. I'm not sure I agree with the notion that you should always start with the beat... I guess it depends on what you consider most important in your track. Either way, I always start with melodies, build a melodic structure, and find beats that, to me, best accentuate its power and emotion. I generally end up coming up with melodies that fit the middle of the track as well. However, if you just mess around in the same key, you usually can quickly find appropriate melodies or ideas to build up to it. Either way, I personally think it keeps things more interesting. To each their own, however.
  6. You can do this with just about any genre of modern music... You could say that the (absolutely gorgeous) theme from Pan's Labyrinth is exceedingly simple and stupid, just some silly lady humming...
  7. So I don't have problems automating any of the parameters for effects, synths, etc. Only issue I've encountered is this: how to turn a device on or off for a given clip. Otherwise, I'm faced with creating another instance of a synthesizer (if I'm working in Session View). For whatever reason, device on/off appears in the list of automated parameters in Arrangement View but not that spoken of above... strange. Any brilliant ideas on getting around this limitation?
  8. I frequently have dreams where I start playing the keyboard or something else musically related, and I instantly strike on a melody that is just staggering in its power and beauty, everything clicks together better than everything I've ever heard, soon I'm hearing a fucking AMAZING song... I get so excited that I wake up, and before I can run across the room, it's gone. :drama:
  9. Ableton is amazing... I don't think the Session View has to be used in a total improv manner... I think it can be used to help get an idea for the flow of a song, gradually planning it out in your mind and building things up, you can make longer clips and add automation to them (it is possible in Session View to do this), use follow actions and really get something that sounds thought out.
  10. Here's that Rabbit in the Moon track I spoke of... I'll be sincerely impressed if there's anything sadder than this in the trance genre. Edit: Shit, that version is fucked up... it's like they warped the audio to make it faster than it should be... damn, wtf. Appears to be on their myspace page though: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...riendid=1946365
  11. I really haven't heard anything that's quite matched the epic beauty of "LSD" in my mind... I.F.O. vs Twisted? WTF? You can't love them both?
  12. No one's mentioned Aes Dana?! Every album from that artist has been fabulous. Phuture Primitive is amazing as well. TIP & Total Eclipse & Hallucinogen - The Mystery of the Yeti = unbelievable. H.U.V.A. Network is excellent. Celtic Cross, Simon worked on that... enough said. Cell is great. Especially the track, "Audio Deepest Night." Somewhat different genre, but Amethystium is breathtakingly beautiful.
  13. Grateful Dead - Death Don't Have No Mercy (at the Avalon Ballroom in the mid-late 60s, forget the exact date, think it was October? they were really on fire that night)
  14. The best from an unsigned artist? Shit, this is some of the best I've heard, period. Most talented and inspired new artist I've stumbled across in at least a year, without question. Amazing. I'm floored. Really. GOOD WORK.

  16. I got into this music only in the last 4 years and I still think that what was made in the early to mid 90s was much better...
  17. Yeah, I do have to agree that there's an amazing amount of uninspired stuff out there. It's like everyone's trying to copy each other and churn stuff out without focusing on creating something interesting. Or if they're going for interesting/different, it ends up really disjointed or not interesting musically, but just in the effects/sounds... :/
  18. Yeah, not sure where I'll go yet. I've listened to a shitload of music at least. I've only been at this for two months on and off, and I've made a couple styles of tracks: a melancholy trance track, banging hardcore track ( http://lazy.episch.com/amphetamine%20psychosis.mp3 ), a euphoric track that's not really trance but has a steady beat, and this one... so who knows where I'm headed.
  19. I'm not necessarily trying to make anything near psytrance.
  20. I just try not to constrict myself to rules too much.
  21. Come on guys listen to my supreme track! The opening melody is like a dramatic drunken Beethoven belting out mournful melodies of deafness! Soon it escalates into a melody and timbre beyond that even of the great Hallucinogen! And then it tapers back to a drunk Beethoven before shattering souls with mindblowing epic Lizst genius! Soaring sounds of godliness, this is it! I am the best producer EVER!

  23. Dimension 5 - Blue Pyramid Overcharge Feat. G-Meter - Whiplash
  24. Hallucinogen - LSD without a moment's hesitation.
  25. Fuuuck is that a mindblowing experience... you aren't kidding. This is your pupil on LSD:
