for poppy synth music the second half of Jarre - Oxygene Part 5 is über cool

Future Sound of London. Not that I like 'm THAT much overall, but some stuff is awesome. Shpongle was mostly short excitement for me. I was also relatively new to electronic music then. I got over it. And The Day Turned To Night is still great though. I view that track as their legacy to electronic music, worthy of a modest place in the hall of fame.

Human Blue - Protonica

my favorite remix: L.S.G. - Netherworld (Jules Vern mix) because it's even better than original, while original is great too

I could make a huge list but instead I'll point you to some surveys of 'best ambient'.... http://atmoworks.ning.com/profiles/blogs/2...:BlogPost:10489 The outcome of these surveys is pretty good IMO. They were held among enthusiasts of the genre. Here's the 2006 survey: http://atmoworks.ning.com/notes/Ambient_List_Survey_2006 Another top list that's very good. It includes about 10 of my personal all-time favorites. http://www.echoes.org/Beyond-Ambient25.html This list would be a really good starting point to discover the classics.

Prodigy - Warriors Dance haha, nice! :posford:

Yeah, Switch (Twitch) is a nice one too. I loved Zion right away when I first heard it in cinema during the Matrix 2. This tune made it the best part of the movie.

Yeah supposedly this year. Some info: http://www.in70mm.com/news/2008/samsara/index.htm

Steve Roach - Arc of Passion (split in 2 parts, 31:36+28:44 min) From a live concert. First part is best. The master at work.

Check out the classic Manuel Göttsching - E2-E4 from 1984 (recorded 1981). Length: 59:34 One of the foundations of electronic dance music, so it's simply obligatory material. If it drives you nuts after a while, you could skip to the second half hour when the wonderful guitar comes in. That's gotta be one of the finest moments in all electronic music (it's almost a relief if you sat through the first half hour).

In related news, action star Jean-Claude Van Damme said in a recent interview with Total Film that he was approached by Stallone to play a role in The Expendables, but declined: “Stallone gave me a part in his next movie but I ask him about the subject, about the story. He said, ‘You’re going make lots of money.’ I don’t want to hear that, I want to hear what was my character. He was unable to tell what it’s going to be. [stallone said:] ‘You know, uh, well, the fighting will be good.’ [so I said:] ‘Sly, what is my character?’ So I didn’t do the movie.” LOL like it matters what his character will be

not specific enough about half of my favorite electronic music is longer than 10 minutes

Well they're about 95% total crap, but at least they made this track: Rhapsody in E I still like it. Gotta give this one some credit, coming from 1994.

Ulrich Schnauss - Monday Paracetamol also a heavy contender for best melodic chill track with beats
-
best sleeping album ever is Jonn Serrie - And the stars go with you (1987) here's some tracks (nice images too btw!)
-
some rather obvious picks, originals or trance mixes Delerium - Silence Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun Steve Roach - Opening the space Wordless chanting with endless reverb over processed didgeridoo. Amazing track and surely hippy enough!

Watched it some months ago. Fabulous. Also love the soundtrack by Michael Stearns. An actual follow up is coming this year called Samsara. Also by Ron Fricke. Michael Stearns is involved in the music again.
