    Ovnimoon - Holistic

I've just bought this CD and tbh, I can't see me playing it very often. The music is really decent, but that woman's vocal samples make me want to vomit. Seriously - completely ruined the album for me. Sounds like the kind of rubbish you hear from middle aged, middle class hippy wannabes in Glastonbury coffee shops, trying to impress each other (and everyone within earshot) and the breathy, eurotrance style delivery is proper cringe-worthy. Shame.
  2. I'm waiting too. Frustratingly, it appeared in the Suntrip Shop a couple of days after I ordered on Bandcamp. I'd have had it ages ago if I'd held on a bit longer and ordered from there!
  3. It has to be LSD. Boring answer, but nothing else comes close to being as well known IMO.
  4. I played all the Filteria albums back to back this weekend and here's my updated opinion... I still think Sky Input is a good but not great album it's just too busy with same-sounding melodies for me and lacks punch & depth. Heliopolis isn't as good - it's patchy and the down-tempo track is below par - it's just ok IMHO. Daze Of Our Lives is where he really hits his stride. I very much enjoyed listening to that again. There are much more spaces for the tracks to breathe and it sounds a much better produced and more mature work. Lost In The Wild has also gone up in my estimation after giving it a good blast through the floorstanders. Tracks 5&6 are still my least favourite due to the relentless melodies, but the album has enough variety that this isn't a problem. There are loads of interesting, excellent sounds going on in the background too and the whole thing sounds polished and well-crafted. It's superb!
  5. That's better for sure. There's no denying the insanity of the leads / melody, but I still think the bottom end is lacking a little something - a bit of bounce(?) and that's more important to me than melodies. TBH, I just posted the first track I could find on Youtube, so it might not have been representative of the whole album. Tell you what - when I get home I'll stick the CD on through my Tannoys, so I can hear it at it's best. I can't guarantee I'm going to agree it's the best Nu-School Goa album ever, but who knows - I might be doing it a disservice.
  6. I honestly don't get it. I think it's a reasonable album, but the melodies to my ears are very much the standard Middle Eastern / Israeli style that I'm not too keen on and are too prevalent in Nu-Goa. To be fair though, that's just down to personal taste - it's the "unmatched power" part I really struggle with. If you compare these two tracks for example - the Portamento one has drive and groove to the bass & kick, that instantly make me want to get up & dance. The Filteria rhythm sounds a bit flat - lacking in dynamism. To me the groove is all important in a track made for the dancefloor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlK7y1hhM-A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZnXe8oNr9o I'm going to leave it there, as I don't want to sound like I'm slagging Filteria off. I'm not. I've bought & enjoy all his CDs, but there are other Nu-School Goa artists I prefer.
  7. I don't agree. Unless you put IMO or "I think / believe that... " or something along those lines, you are basically stating a fact and dismissing any other opinion, which can come across as arrogant, even if it wasn't meant to be. It's saying "I am right, your opinion counts for nothing." (Unless it's the same as mine.)
  8. I think that's a bit harsh - there are plenty of musicians who peaked early and totally lost their way.
  9. I've just played it again to refresh my memory, because I've not listened that many times. TBH, I'm not a huge Filteria fan and this album has done nothing to change that. I don't much enjoy the frantic, in your face melodies on most of the tracks. At times they sound Nitzho-like and on the title track almost random. There's just way too much treble going on and not enough groove for my tastes. Tracks 1-4 are probably my favourites, 5&6 my least. I think it's o.k. but I'm more of a fan of E-Mantra, Celestial Intelligence & Artifact 303. I do agree that his work has improved album by album, though.
  10. I had the CDs arrive yesterday and I'm absolutely loving this release! I think it's more like Tanetsveta than any of his other albums, but that's o.k. by me, as that was my favourite previously anyway! There are some outstanding moments - "Call Of Beauty" is... well... beautiful! The vocals work so brilliantly with the kick & bass - really haunting. I know Psykovsky can be hard work in places, but there are sections that are just sublime. The packaging and CDs look stunning too. I'll try to get round to writing a proper review.
  11. Like I said, I could be convinced to allow prog to stay.
  12. Interesting poll. Back in the 1990s when I first started going to trance parties in the UK, the flyers first called it "Psychedelic Techno" then "Psychedelic Trance Techno" and they were playing what we now call Goa Trance. (We did then too, in the main.) The techno term seemed to be dropped later, but there was by then a very clear difference between the trance at these parties and the music at techno nights, so that's not a surprise. As I understand it, the term Psytrance came about when the music started to evolve from Goa Trance, as it wasn't Goa, but clearly was related. My personal view is that Psytrance is an umbrella term now, covering all the various sub-genres, from Goa to Darkpsy and even Hi-tech, but I'm nor sure a lot of Prog should be included. To be fair - if you look at Psyshop's listings, they seem to feel the same. They have a Prog catergory and then Psytrance which covers everything else. (Apart from techno, chill, dub etc, obviously.) I could be coerced into accepting Prog under the Psytrance banner, but some of it is so commercial and clinical sounding, with no twisted effects or suchlike, that it has little in common other than the 4/4 beat, IMHO. Having said that, for the sake of convenience, I sometimes use the term psytrance to mean: "a precise form of psychedelic trance that is not dark and not full-on and that sounds like forest, but with a more tech-ish feeling." Others might still call this full-on, but I see this music as a mile away from your standard Nano style offerings and calling it "twilight" seems a bit silly.
  13. Arabesque Distribution are always my first choice. Usually next day delivery in the UK and as cheap as anywhere. you can buy through Amazon marketplace, but they have a Bandcamp page now: https://arabesquedistribution.bandcamp.com/ and look to be getting their own digital site up and running. (But it's not ready yet.) Always great service. To be fair, for titles A.D. don't stock, Psyshop have been good recently - pretty quick. I also use Beatspace and Goastore from time to time.
  14. I thought U-Turn was great. O.K. it's not Goa, but there were some varied dancefloor thumpers on there. I'd have to say: Asia 2001 - Contact. (Uneven sound quality, none particularly good and ruined by awful samples.) Cronomi V.A. - Erta Ale. (Ruined by overuse of (and) awful samples.) Cosmosis - Trancendance . (Total cheese and again awful samples.) Encephalopaticys - Psychometric Meditation. (Surely not the same guy who was involved with the amazing Ukalen album?!!) Psykovsky - Na Ve Ka - (After the sublime, utter genius of Tanetsveta, a harsh, discordant noise fest, nearly un-listenable at certain points. I was expecting so much more from this one.)
  15. It's a top album. Works well as a whole, playing the Sangoma CD first, then the B.H.S. Deep Blue Skies (Blue Sangoma Sounds Edit) GAIANA Now that's a quality tune!
  16. I like this album a lot! Proper Goa Trance vibe, but up to date production. Good one!
