  1. Ordered it anyway, thanks.
  2. I don't know anything about techno, but i've just got "Metropolis" by Jeff Mills and liking it quite a lot, especially the (longer on the album) which sounds very haunting to me. I also remember tripping on some Laurent Garnier tunes when i was like 10 yo, "The Sound of The Big Babou" and . He was quite famous in France back then, you could see his funny clips on tv regularly and listen to his music on the most known dance/techno french radios. Some other tracks i liked were (that melody starting at 0:59), as well as some Dj Fred & Arnold T, though i don't know if that qualifies as techno.
  3. The melody in "Rain" from 3:27 to 5:14 is just Also loving "Other Line". Great album overall, but i can't seem to be able to find it.. anyone know how reliable israel-music.com is? It's the only shop i could find it, but the release date is "2004" - is it a remastered version or just a reprint?
  4. Totally worth it if you ask me, 10$ shipped for such great music is just a bargain. Best album of the year for me, already a classic in my book.
  5. Yay! Awesome news I wanted to get the CBL albums for ages!
  6. To answer my own request, i have contacted Planet B.E.N. on this matter; it appears he didn't make any other track in this style unfortunately.
  7. LOL Oh god this is hilarious, i would feel so embarrassed to actually buy any of those albums in a shop. I can imagine the seller (say, a pretty girl) looking at the cover, smiling, looking at you quickly, smiling some more.. then you pretending it's for a friend's birthday or something.
  8. Good news, looking forward to it. Many thanks and respect for the fact it is free.
  9. Funny clip about speedcore making.. http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=ukhd9OBnOZI&...feature=related More seriously i really don't get that kind of "music", hardcore i can understand to some extent.. but speedcore/extratone sounds just like noise to me.
  10. I've been reading head-fi for weeks when i was looking for a good electronica headphone, the most mentioned cans were (depending on your budget): - A900 (Audio Technica), around 150 bucks and sound good unamped. While i'm not wearing them at all anymore, i can say they're very good for the price and also very comfy. - DT880 (Beyerdynamic), known to have good details and speed. Would need a proper amp/source to get the best from them though. - SA5000 (Sony). Famous for their amazing speed and details, competing with electrostatic's systems. They're also very analetycal and neutral sounding. They do need a good headamp though, way more expensive than the phones themselves. - AD2000 (Audio Technica). Often said to be very fast, detailed, airy, with a very textured and impactful bass (not "boomy"). Those are the ones i wear all the time and i'm very happy with them. They don't need any amplification to sound good, though they naturally do get better with one. I've paired them with a Keces 152 and i'm amazed at what i'm hearing for just about 800€. - Ultrasone Pro 750. I got the Proline version of them (slightly worse), and i honestly don't like them when i compare them to the A900 or AD2000. They're said to be good for electronica, but i can't stand their signature. As for Grados and Sein headphones, they don't seem to be very recommended for goa/psy. I don't know too much about Grados, but Sein's are quite slow, warm, and thus not as much detailed. Though if you have an important budget, a balanced pair of 650 driven by a balanced amp is said to be pretty amazing. But if you can afford that, i guess you might as well go for an uber electrostatic setup (Stax Omega 2).. That's pretty much what i gathered from hours of reading, but try browsing head-fi with key terms and you'll get plenty of useful threads.
  11. This thread is making me dig out my old Thunderdome compilations! I didn't listen to them for years lol Found some of them on youtube, forgive the low sound quality. http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4XRFUVaSoc&...feature=related Absolutely loving the second part of this track, if it was longer and more developed it would be such a killer! http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=73VeaP3_8C4 http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=eGbjX7RX1Do&...feature=related http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=K3_VXcX8d7w&...feature=related In high quality and LOUD on a proper system, i find myself tripping like mad on those tracks.
  12. http://www.speedylook.com/Speedcore.html Psychedelic speedcore And extratone going at 3600 bpm.. lol
  13. Believe it or not, but the first CDs i bought (back when i was 10 years old) were some Thunderdome hardcore compilations. At that time, what i was liking in electronica was tripping on a "good" melody and a hard hitting bass (i.e: "I Like It Loud" - Marshall Masters, or "Funny" - 3 Steps Ahead). Funny thing is some early hardcore tracks were sounding a bit like psytrance, such as "Strange Invaders (remix)" - Das Duell. Now that my tastes have evolved a bit, i find most of those tracks pretty awful, though i can still somehow enjoy to some of them, like.. "Horror" - Rotterdam Terror Corps "No Happy Shit" - Rotterdam Terror Corps "Midnight Impact" - Dj Promo "It's Delicious" - 3 Steps Ahead "Beaten Like A Bitch" - Darien Kelly "Midnight Motion" - Miro ... It sounds pretty bad of course (except the Miro track which i really do like), but they're probably amongst the best (or should i say "less worst"?) hardcore tracks i have heard. I don't really know how this music evolved though, i've watched a few vids on youtube and it seems like Hardstyle/Jumpstyle became more popular in the Netherlands/Belgium, with their huge events (Qlimax, Mysteryland, Sensation Black, etc). A video of Qlimax 2007 I can't imagine how trippy a psytrance party would be if it could be organised like this! As for the ppl into this style.. they clearly don't seem very interesting, but who knows.
  14. Great review Mr. Coco! This album well deserves it. I've listened to it about 4 times so far, and for me the highlights are the tracks made by Chi-AD and Filteria. The former has a sad and very emotional feeling to it, i love the melody and the floaty sounds used to make it. One of my favourite track of the year. The latter sounds much more "psy" to me than any other tracks on this compil', it's quite slow but in a way also very catchy and trippy. The part from 4:16 to 5:04 gives me chills everytime. I also liked the tracks made by California Sunshine, Virtuart & Chronomyst, and Aerosis, though they didn't particularly touch me either. Other tracks are also very well made, but they're not too much in my style (i don't tend to like "happy melodies" most of the time). If i had to give it a note that would probably be a 7/10 (good note), putting this album right behind Jikkenteki - "Flights of Infinity" and Ra - "9th" as release of the year for me.
  15. Headphones all the way for me. A good headphone setup will be far more fidel than any kind of speaker in the same price range. You can get something pretty amazing under 1k, while it probably would cost you 5 or 10 times more to have the speakers equivalent. Some more expensive setups are said to be out of this world, but i never had the luck to listen to them. Same point with a lesser budget, there are some good headphones around 200 bucks (unamped) that are no match for any speaker system at this price up to.. 1k maybe? That's something i wouldn't have believed a few months ago, but now that i own such setup i just can't enjoy listening music through speakers anymore. Music sounds way more trippy and involving than it ever was with any kind of speakers i have heard so far (granted the best i have heard is a vintage Akai setup, but its not exactly bad either) It's honestly like night and day. Also i get a much wider and accurate soundstage with my headphones, i can clearly pick up elements and locate them around me (very obvious if the production is good). Albums like "Trippy Future Garden" by Planet B.E.N. or any Shpongle album are sounding really amazing and very 3D like, which is something i don't notice as much with speakers. That being said, i think an amazing speakers system (read: bloody expensive) would be more fun to listen to than any pair of headphone, that if you bother to set it up in an acoustic room. So yeah.. with unlimited costs i would probably have a dedicated speakers room, but until then i'll stick to headphones.
  16. No idea if there are any unrealeased tracks from him, but i would have loved to hear more stuff from Planet B.E.N. 's early style (''Trippy Future Garden"). Great idea anyway, looking forward to what it will be like.
  17. Loving the cover, again big thanks for what you are doing. Any idea when we'll be able to pre-order it (or is it already possible) ?
  18. "Sight of The Sages" - Chi-AD Most likely track of the year for me
  19. This album got some amazing tracks, i can't understand why it's not a classic. "S.T.C." is one of my all time favourite. "Where Are You?" and "Dawn of Epsilon" are awesome as well, and every other tracks are great. Production/mastering are also top notch, it sounds much better to my ears than what i can hear nowadays. It sounds very 3D like, unlike pretty much everything else i have heard that sounds kind of "flat" and distant. If you never heard of it give it a listen, if you didn't like it.. listen to it again through a good headphone setup!
  20. This album will get a lot more listen thats for sure, already gave it a second try and i'm liking the California Sunshine and Virtuart tracks more than before. Waiting for a full review by a skilled writer to post some more thoughts, but thats deffo a high quality release.
  21. Just got it this morning and gave it its first listen through my headphone setup. Some tracks are really good, especially the one made by Chi-AD which i find to be *very* emotional. Probably the best morning track i've heard to this date. The other track i really like is coming from Jannis (Filteria), which is the most (maybe the only) psychedelic tune of this compil for me - and the only one that made me want to stand up and dance. One regret though, i think i like the tone of his first version more (the one available on his website). Those two tracks are clearly the highlights of this album for me, and justify by themselves the purchase of this compil'. Other tracks didn't really interest me as much, they're very well produced and i'm sure a lot of ppl will love them - but to my (very picky) tastes, they let me down with that "nice but.. i don't feel anything listening to it" feeling. It's just that i'm not appealed by their melodies, usually sounding kind of empty/flat/uninspired to me. Remember that i'm being 100% subjective , i'm not criticizing by any mean. All in all though i would say that it is a high quality morning compilation, totally worth having just for the Chi-AD track.
  22. err.. i don't know everything about you radi nor about your "psynews past", but i think you're getting a bit paranoid on this one! Your post was made just a few hours ago, on a topic that most ppl have no idea on. Also - please don't get offended - your english is not always perfect, which makes it harder for the reader to see which point you are trying to make. As for your question, i never listened to those tracks so i can't answer you. In any case relax man, i'm sure someone will answer if they have an opinion about it
  23. Hey, I got mine directly from his website: http://www.jikooha.com/
