some of this stuff can be very nice, but only for a few spins (except the LSG and Humate tracks, they're still great)
Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes (Armin Van Buuren Universal Religion Mix)
really loved that one, for a while...
combo Steve Roach & Vir Unis - Dissolving The Code + Steve Roach & Vir Unis - Evolution
I've played these tracks a gazillion times by now and the sounds and rhythms still fascinate me. How did they ever come up with such cool, unique, trippy floating music..
Klaus Schulze - Velvet Voyage
a very powerful, incredibly dark mindtrip.. for adventurous ambient listeners only.. give it some time... you probably won't make it through the first time, just like me
Shakta - Lepton Head (Deedrah Remix)
From the break at 3:03 to 4:21. Very powerful and energetic. I think it's even better than the arabic melodies later in the track... they sort of release the tension a bit.
They're old, but very good.. especially the first one
Pete Namlook & Biosphere - Talk to the Stars
Pete Namlook & Tetsu Inoue - Did You Ever Retire A Human...
Pete Namlook - Trip 5
He has been around longer (under other names). Of course he copied a formula, but I think he added something extra... he gave commercial trance a new sound (like system f - out of the blue) and today most eurotrance/epic trance/whatever still sounds like that (and most of it sucks ). Influential doesn't necessarily mean inventing a whole new style.
I agree, this album is exceptionally good. A real gem for ambient fans. Straight-forward, perfectly constructed melodic, dark ambient.
A lot of today's artists could learn something from this. This is what electronic music is about.
Vir Unis & Saul Stokes - Thermal Transfer
expirimental, organic, rhytmic ambient soundscapes
at least check track Blurring Maguro.. that's just AWESOME
What about Ferry Corsten... stuff like System F and Gouryella.. eurotrance with the typical big synth stringsounds... around '98/'99 he and some others made eurotrance/dutch cheesetrance the most popular form of dance music, I guess... an enormous amount of similar stuff followed.. influential wether you like it or not.
I like the first two albums, especially the first one. Still evaluating no 3.
But for me 'And the day turned to night' is his only real masterpiece. For that track he is a 'god' of music, amongst many other gods...and some have more masterpieces.
But wait... that was about Simon as in Shpongle. For Angelic Particles he is a god too. So make that two masterpieces.
