  1. It's not what I'd call abstract or dark ambient, but the music is definately very atmospheric and ambient-like and it also has strong melodies and emotions. Today these artists make mostly rubbish, but to me those albums are some of the best electronic music ever. I enjoyed them immensely and I still enjoy listening now and then. I truly experienced some of my best music moments with these albums. So it's just my personal recommendation. And it sounds different than today's music, no software, no samples, just analog synths and equipment and I love that sound.
  2. I have a better idea: Listen to Tangerine Dream - Rubycon (1975) and Klaus Schulze - Mirage (1977) first. There are so many people into all kinds of electronic/ambient/chillout/expirimental music, but few seem to have heard the greatest classics of them all. That's how I see it anyway. Next time another ambient topic comes, this will be my standard reply.
  3. and yet another ambient topic I say let's create 3 music forums: 1 for psytrance and psyambient and 1 for all other electronic music, and 1 for all non electronic music
  4. yes, disappointing I expected better from this forum
  5. They were full songs when he sometimes posted here. I really like the track 48 hours.
  6. Dark ambient is basicly a structured painting with sounds that creates a specific, fascinating atmosphere that stirs the imagination, tells some kind of story, creates images in your mind..... but when none of that happens it's meaningless noise to me... and whether the music works or not is very personal.
  7. Klaus Schulze - Floating Yes, again..... I'm obsessive about this track. Here's an excerpt of this incredible space jam from 1976: http://people.zeelandnet.nl/rverpl/floating.mp3 If it sounds interesting you really should listen to the whole thing a couple of times.. and also check out his other psychedelic masterpiece "Friedrich Nietzsche". Then you will know what music is.

    FSOL - Dead Cities

it's different music in a different context.. both masterpieces to me
  9. Pete Namlook & Bill Laswell - The Fate Of Energy one of those rare tracks I can always get goosebumps from
  10. hi Yes, it is great! Especially the subtle tension building of the first half... the second half gets a bit sleepy. Tracks 2 and 3 are my favorites. I get images of someone entering a haunted house in a dark forrest. other dark favorites: forever fixed at position no. 1: Steve Roach - The Magnificent Void Lustmord - Heresy Lustmord - The Place Where the Black Stars Hang Inade - The Crackling of the Anonymous Raison D'etre - In Sadness, Silence and Solitude

    FSOL - Dead Cities

if you're talking about the vocals they're from Vangelis - Rachel's Song (Blade Runner) well anyway it's a cool combination of sounds and samples
  12. Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene Part 5 the second half is so cool
  13. http://people.zeelandnet.nl/rverpl/Bahamut...me%20Attack.mp3 here's my weirdest track, made entirely on roland xp-80 rompler ...I wouldn't know how to describe it quality is a bit crappy, listen with headphones
  14. I'm sure I mentioned these a couple of times Tetsu Inoue - Chill in Chill out Tetsu Inoue - Ring of Power not entirely beatless and the tunes take time to develop but my god, it's so good and beautiful... how can anyone not like this, it's impossible just relax and LISTEN
  15. Robert Rich & Brian Lustmord - Synergistic Perceptions I wonder if the vocal noises are processed porn samples.

    FSOL - Dead Cities

My Kingdom is soooooo good..... in every detail... haunting, bombastic, subtle and beautiful all in one track..... the unique sounds and samples and the cool, weird melodies and they all fit together. AWESOME. This is the shit.
  17. and you must also be a bit obsessed with sounds in general... most people can only listen to music with clear rhythms and melodies ambient is about sound and atmosphere
