  1. Somewhat, sure, but I don't think it's any more than any other kind of music. It just requires rethinking your transinterpretation of emotion in music.
  2. I don't see a lot about Dave Smith Instruments, but I thought I'd let anyone know who doesn't how awesome their new PolyEvolver keyboard is. Unfortunately, it's a hell of a lot more expensive than the Evolver tabletop synth. Head to your local Banjo Center and see if they have it (that's where I played it).
  3. Why do you say that about the Andromeda? You're insulting my lady love!
  4. Psy and goa are not good for my work ethic, I tend to just sit there and listen to the music. DnB and metal give me energy for hard work. Especially when I'm cleaning the house.
  5. Does anyone here play live psytrance shows? How do you do it? I'd like to eventually, but I don't really know what my set up would be.
  6. It's pretty dark once you enter this cave. At one point we stopped and sat and turned off all our lights, and we were getting fantom images at the edges of our sight, as though our hearing were creating a mental picture of the cave around us. That's pretty dark.

    I HATE

I hate when my cat knocks my BassStation on the floor. I really need to put it in a rack. Wrong thread?

  9. I suppose since this is a board dedicated to psytrance that any non-psytrance albums are not applicable. In that case, I guess I would have to go with the only one I own: Goa Vibes 2. I might be tempted to include my two Infected Mushroom albums, but I suspect I would be flamed hard for including them under the term 'psytrance'.
  10. Otto Matta, the bobbing cat in your signature was bobbing exactly in time with the song I'm listening to!
  11. Forest psy? You're kidding right? That's got to be the most ridiculous genre name I've ever heard! It's taken me a while to figure out exactly what the general sound of "dark psy" is, and the majority of it I don't like. Not because it doesn't have melodies, but because it just isn't dark to me. When I think of the term "dark psytrance", I have a definite idea in mind, and it is dark, evil and scary. Most "dark psy" that I hear is anything but. It's just a bunch of weird sounds, and I don't find that dark at all. But of course, I'm just one guy.
  12. It might be shocking, but I really can't follow what you said at all.
  13. All effects have their place, but I suppose I would have to say phase shifters and/or comb filters are my favorite. Not that they sound good all the time, though; one must use them sparingly. Vocoders are cool too. The only vocoder I have at my disposal is in Reason, but I like it for the fact that I can use anything I want as a carrier.
  14. Well, I think I've only briefly played the Nord Lead, but they're different animals. Well, the Virus and the Nord are both VAs, but the Andromeda is real analog, and the triton is a rompler/workstation synth. What do you want out of a synth?
  15. I haven't even converted anyone to electronic music of any kind, let alone psytrance! I only know one person who likes electronic music, and he's the one who converted me.
  16. Plunk him down in front of a keyboard and tell him to come back in a year or two.
  17. One artist I found not too long ago, which I've yet to see anyone else mention in my short time here, is Toi Doi. Toi Doi -- Psyring Test Edit: I don't really know what sub-genre it 'should' be called, but I think of it as dark psytrance.
  18. Do you mean triplet as in "quarter-note triplets" and so on? If so, I guess you could listen to my song "Technopagan". It's mostly triplets, until the end. I haven't really heard much if any trance with triplets, so sorry that the only one I can suggest is my own. http://www.veracohr.com/audio/Technopagan.mp3
  19. Awesome! There's a big, pitched percussion sound in the foreground that's used a fair amount that I really like.
  20. The bass sound on "Attack of the Mutant..." kind of annoys me, but otherwise it's a good song. Is this typical dark psy? Because this kind of psytrance always seems overly glitchy to me, like the point is just to out-glitch each other.
  21. How could software vs. hardware make a difference in your ability to make money off your music? If it's good music and people like it, that's all that is needed.
