  1. Hi. What happened to the third instalment of Mental Triplex... I thought it was due a couple of years ago. Was it scrapped, or is it still being perfected into what will be the best new goa release ever?!
  2. Hey, sorry to bust in on your topic, but I've been thinking about going here and am trying to get similar info. What I want to know is, are there music venues (i.e. trance parties) in regular venues that are within walking distance (or easy transport without a bike) of places to stay, like Vagator or Anjuna? Or, is it like it used to be when you had to make phone calls and drive all over the countryside to find the secret party that may or may not exist...
  3. I was browsing Ektoplazm yesterday and came across this release. I have to say it sounds amazing, in particular track 5 stood out - lots of great reviews there too. Also, as a fan of the 90s Flying Nun music scene, it's great someone from New Zealand in the Psytrance scene. Can't wait to get stuck into this.
  4. Hi again. I'm still getting my head around all these genres, sub-genres, and sub-sub genres, but I'm getting there! I came across this track recently, and can't get enough of it. First heard it at a party recently and it sent everyone crazy (love the bit that comes in just before 4mins!). I'm assuming this is pure Full On, right?
  5. Sounds great. I go to Thailand regularly but the trance scene is dwindling somewhat, with boring tech-house and commercial stuff taking over. It's there still, but nothing like 10+ years ago when that was all there was. So which beach location would you recommend to stay for a few weeks, which has the right mix of a) Quiet location (populated, but not with high class resorts), b ) easy walking access to decent eateries, c) easy walking access to beach trance parties. Am I asking for too much?!
  6. Yes but what about now? (Sorry if I've misread your post)
  7. Hi, I'm interested to hear more about this. Was in Calangute/Baga in 1996 but that was before I was really into dance music at all so we didn't really visit the parties. Are the parties in regular, organised venues, on the beach? Or are they secret remote locations which would always require transport to get to? How is the accommodation and food thesedays? In 96 we were on a tight budget and it was all a bit dodgy to say the least! Thanks for any info!
  8. Hey great stuff, well spotted, thanks! They played mostly Goa at the parties but there was a lot of acid stuff like this thrown in too. Can you think of some examples of Goa from this era which also had a similar style of acid synths going on?
  9. Hi all, I hope I've chosen the right forum for this. I've been looking at old footage on YouTube of full moon parties in Koh Phangan, Thailand. It's where I first discovered trance back in 99. But looking back, I always struggle to place the style, as I don't really hear stuff like it any more. The music was quite minimal, very acid driven. I'm not sure if it's strictly trance, or more techno, or what - all I remember is at the time it used to send me totally crazy! I still like the sound and want to try and identify the genre, if not any exact tracks. There's a great example in this documentary I found from 1988. (Watch the whole thing if you want, it's rather odd at times with some interesting characters (!) but you have to say it's great rare footage). The music I'm talking about is at the end, starting quietly in the background at 40mins, and peaking at 42mins.
  10. Hey thanks guys, especially Padmapani for all that detail! I think I was pretty much correct in what I was thinking, but the boundary between psytrance and full on needs some work so I'll get listening to your links
  11. I've taken an interest in this thread as I'm partial to some Wizzy Noise at times, plus I totally love the LSD (Lucy) album that was mentioned above, and also because I was at an awesome party last month which (having chatted to the DJ) was mostly Nano stuff. However to me it's all psychedelic trance! Please could someone perhaps try and define what is Goa, what is Psy, and what is Full On? What are the differences, boundaries between them? Plus, is this actually important, or are some people here just being too particular ;-)
  12. Still loving this six years on, great album! Has Tamlin done anything since this release?
  13. Hi guys. I kind of missed MFG first time around, been into trance 10 years or so, and now I want to find out what they were about. Does one of their albums stand out as being their masterpiece? Given the limited time I have to investigate, which album would you recommend I try first? Cheers!
  14. I'm confused as to why reviews of this are appearing on a psychedelic trance forum. To me it sounds like Coldplay with an electronic orchestra.
  15. Psyfactor - yeah I reckon that was it, thanks
  16. Hi guys. I was trying to find an album that was reviewed recently - pretty sure it was in the 2010 Reviews forum - but I can't remember who it was by, and can't find it looking through. All I can remember was that it was high tempo, so closer to full on than ambient, but was mostly beatless. Something quite unusual for that reason alone, which I hope will help to identify it. Thanks!
  17. Ok I'll play too. My choices aren't necessarily my top 10 favourite of this actual moment, but are the ten albums I think I've played the most over the last 10 years. And if you want to play it, something has to be right. No particular order: Filteria - daze of our lives Filteria - heliopolis Ra - 9th Psydrop - Fantasy Seeds Lucy In Space With Diamonds (L.S.D) - Emerald City Astral Projection - Amen Goasia - From Other Spaces Tikal - Ritual Cycle Guinea Pigs - Not Tested On Animals Tamlin - Spectogram A fine collection...
  18. Haha, easy now, you're all getting far too complicated for me! If I included all those genres, my compilation would be endless! I'm trying to keep it really simple, just to show people that it's not all the same sound. I prefer to separate new and old school, as the sound is essentially quite different (maybe it's just the advances in sound technology and production), and that's what I'm trying to demonstrate here. I'll probably throw in a Shulman track to add to the 'Ambient' section, but could still do with something that fits the 'Dark' description, if you have any good suggestions.
  19. Hi all. I was in the pub last night chatting with two mates who have only heard a bit of psytrance, and generally like it so far. I want to compile a compilation for them, to demonstrate the various sub-genres that exist, and how varied the styles are. I want to use music from my own (limited!) collection, tracks that I play regularly, but could probably do with a few tips to make sure I cover everything. Here's what I've come up with so far. The choices may seem odd to you, but remember it's just a personal thing! I might choose one or more tracks from each genre. Old School Goa Transwave - Hypersphere / Hallucinogen - LSD / X-Dream - Freak Full On Guinea Pigs - Have a nice flight / Phi - Henro / Suria - Hallucinogirl New (Old) School Antares - Aurora / Goasis - Sunrise Progressive Wrecked Machines - VidaLoca / Sun Control Species - Only Human / Solar Fields - Summer or Adjustment or Cruise (!) Ambient The Infinity Project - The Answer (I always liked this, but there's so much to choose from and I don't have much) Dark HyperFrequencies - New Order Of Noise (Again, I'm not familiar with much dark stuff. I prefer it to be very bassy and groovy, like this track, not too minimal). So, what do you think - any glaring omissions? Tips welcome!
  20. I just listened to Aerosis as a random selection as it's the one you mentioned above, and there's more key changes in that track than in an average pop song (well, fair enough, an average pop song only has three chords...) Haha, this is irony right? You must be British, like me
  21. Hello everyone. I don't post here often, as I don't consider myself knowledgeable enough to write decent reviews, but I do read all of your reviews! I am very disappointed to see this thread slipping away without barely a mention. How many people actually got hold of this? In my humble opinion, I think this is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've heard. It's just wonderful. It flows so well, and sends my brain into some kind of trancy madness - and that's just in the car on the way to work! The downtempo track at the end follows perfectly and is utterly blissful. Safe to say I love this release! Anyway, would love to hear a proper review from some of you regular reviewers, to see if it's just me!
  22. I've only so far heard the samples provided on Saikosounds - but don't you think this track has huge similarities to L.S.D by Hallucinogen? That's obviously a good thing, by the way!
  23. Jesus you're right. The first track sounds like one of those awful generic pop-trance tracks that started getting into the british charts around 8 years ago. Yuk.
  24. Hi People. I'm not a regular poster here, but read often with interest. I've been watching this thread since it began and finally feel the need to contribute. I love this release. Love it. Well most of it. I've been trying to work out why, and why so many of you don't. There are a few points I would mention... Firstly I hate heavy metal, always have done. IMO there is no place for rock guitars in psytrance, so I hate tracks 6 and 8. Awful, always skip them. Tracks 1 and 3 I imagine are great on the dancefloor. However personally I love tracks 2, 5, 9 & 10. I find them original, inspiring, something different to the norm. Many of you have compared this release to Cosmic Experience. That is a good CD, I have it, but this is far more diverse I find. The tracks on C.E are more repetetive, and I find it hard to distinguish one track from the other. No danger of that on Silence In Action! But what's the difference? Well, I'm not a hardcore psytrance freak. At least not compared to most of you here! When I listen to it, it's usually on my headphones at night before going to bed, or on my walkman going to work, rather than in a club. I'm not drugged up to the eyeballs, and haven't been on that many occasions. Maybe I hear something different, maybe I'm expecting something different. Perhaps the obscure psychedelic edge that you guys seem to crave is lost on me - I guess it's all relative. For me, I do find it reasonably psychedelic and twisted. Track 2, Tune Up, sends me dilerious every time, as the layers build up and the synths grind. I would love to hear that in a club environment. Maybe Electric Universe are aiming for a slightly different market, perhaps it appeals to me because it is just a touch more accessible. But that doesn't mean they have sold out - accessible is different from commercial. Not a lot more I can add, otherwise I'll be rambling. But to finish, this is my equal favourite release of the year, along with Filteria. Thanks for listening, don't shoot me down!
