Uuh, this is weird. I'm listening to the Crazy Astronaut samples over on Saikosounds, and I'm sure these are totally different to the samples that were there last time I listened (which were some kind of slow proggy thing, totally out of character for Osom Music, which is why I was so interested to hear people's opinion). I guess Saikosounds must have fucked up and since fixed their mistake.

FWIW, I know some very intelligent people who listen to utter shit - I'm talking about someone with a 1st from Oxford who likes Wham and Simply Red, for example. I happen to believe there's such a thing as objective quality in music, but nobody can unambiguously determine when something has it any more than one can unambiguously determine objective truth.

I don't agree with the blanket assumption that somebody who changes to a more popular style must be doing so for purely commercial reasons. Popular styles get popular because people like them, it's hardly surprising that a lot of people who used to make Goa would like them too.

The Matrix was a good film. I think there's a psytrance track that contains samples from it, can't remember which track though.

On topic(ish): I like the music of Suntrip, but I agree with EP to an extent, since it seems to me that there's a lot of snobbery among some members of psynews about the relative merits of Goa trance and more recent psy subgenres. It's fair enough if people like the Goa sound and want to hear more of it, but don't pretend that trance has to sound like a carbon copy of Pleiadians or D5 to qualify as psychedelic. I wasn't there when old-school Goa trance happened so I can't comment on whether the "spirit" of the early scene is still there in the new-school scene, but something that consistently strikes me when listening to stuff from the 90's is that it didn't all sound like Filteria, and that's a large part of what made it good (no disrespect intended towards Filteria, I like his music) - IMO variety and constant evolution are almost essential ingredients of psytrance, since a lot of what makes music psychedelic is not sounding quite like anything one has heard before.
