Tips, Tricks and Music Theory
Shaft replied to sirade's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
Probably been answered loads on here already, but I start initially with an idea - be it bass, drums, pads, lead etc. It could be a short motif or riff, or a long atmospheric pad line or whatever. Point is, I don't start intending the idea to be a song - I just roll with ideas and see if any develop into a song. Once the initial idea is down, then I usually write complimentary ideas - say I wrote a drum part first, I'd write a bass line next. Lastly I come to arrange it all and seam it together - this I find is the most boring part - Most of my music is locked up in my head because I can't find the patience with song structures and sequencing! -
What music are you listening to right now?

Fantastic album!!

Knowing Twisted, it'll be several years until they actually release Ott 2. As for this album, it's really well put together, although some of the tracks sound a little samey - but I'm still impressed with the majority of his work (and I'm not bored with In Dub yet as I only recently purchased it!!) - this deserves a 9/10.

I was afraid of it being the only one of it's kind. No worries then.

Shulman - The Unexpected Visitor (CBL Carbonator Remix) -
Infected Mushroom are somewhat of a joke now, but for me, Classical Mushroom and B.P.Empire are not worthless pieces of garbage. In particular, the track Never Ever Land is extremely inspiring to me - I love this kind of half trance, half atmospheric music. If anyone can recommend some dreamy, atmospheric music like this (hell, it doesn't even have to be trance!!) that ISN'T in my collection - I must stress that enough! I have plenty of dreamy stuff but am always looking for new things!! - then please, send me along some recommendations. I want stuff that I can get new from Psyshop, or Amazon, possibly Saikosounds - if that's possible - I don't want to be searching around for old classics, I'm not a collector, just a big music fan.

Well as there's so much good music out there, I often look for cool covers - then if I like the samples, then it's all good! I never bought a CD before purely on a cover.

Did you first hear psytrance on mp3 or on a cd?
Shaft replied to cangrejo's topic in General Psytrance
I found the scene in 2005, so of course by then mp3 was widespread. However I only downloaded a few MP3s and realised that I much preferred buying the physical CDs - artwork and CD in a box just makes a lot more sense to me than a digital file. -
There never should have been. Heard of this, but avoided as it was PC only at one point. Might check it out now, as it's compatible with OSX!! Got it. I have all of these minus the KjaerhusAudio stuff and Kristal - Crystal is my 'go to' synth for just about any ambient texture you can think of - Synth1 is also really really good, but the PC only part is really gutting, especially since I work soley with Macs for music production now.

12 months! Ouch! He was asking for it though.

Yet I find they are much more ambient than Shpongle, and have their own style. I really like this album, great remixes by Ott (he seems to have the Midas touch on his remixes), and Vibrasphere - really looking forward to their downtempo album which should be released later this year. Also the new tracks are great, with the exception of Without Thought - don't really like this one.

If you really wanted the discs, you didn't really go about it the right way! If it was me, I would have politely PM'd Aaron again with my offer and details, and not waste time trying to be funny. He can sell to whoever he wants, and the reason he hasn't sold to you is because you weren't very respectful to him. Dude, I respect you, but just leave it. You don't need to get involved with this guy - as far as you're concerned, you've made a sale and he hasn't got the discs.
-
What is your problem? You didn't come to this thread to buy Aaron's discs, but to provoke him (successfully) - but for what purpose? This guy is making one hell of an offer and you're laughing in his face about past events at Isratrance? What the hell? Devious is a good guy, I've bought from him once before and he was an all round great seller.
-
I prefer artists to do their own thing really - I myself try and be innovative - that's why I don't have some of the less 'good' compilations or artist albums - I prefer fresh sounds.
-
Fine, your loss.
-
Maybe. But I feel that I have got good feedback on my music, rather than my ability to mix and master etc. The main focus I feel should be on the music, rather than the bitrate. Here is the download for anyone else who wants it: http://s41.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3ES9WTP...LB2NJV64IA057N7

Looking like a promising year for Chillcode and chill in general.

80ies sounds? You mean the digital effects things? Yes I'm working on those. I've noticed that the file has expired, so if anyone else wants a listen, then post here and I'll upload it again for you.

I'm going to be picking up a dedicated control surface like this baby: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/UC33e-main.html -
Yet another Killarrrrgh new artist
Shaft replied to Frontier Psychiatrist's topic in General Psytrance
It's funny because all promo texts always seem to say 'he has his own unique style' when they're clearly all ripping each other off.
