  1. Back on track with a fresh remix. Took the 1998 classic DnB tune "Reverse Engineering" by Psion for a spin, one of my all time favorites! Tried to stay true to the Original, so this one is techy, dark and atmospheric, at 170BPM. Enjoy!
  2. Damn this was good. Just love the gated chord melody you got in this track, its so catchy! Also great bassline and percussion. Excellent work, 9/10
  3. Thank you for this mind-blowing set! I was really glad that this mix has the Artha track I've been looking for everywhere, its in the set from 78-86 minutes. Really one of the best tracks I've heard recently, this acid bassline is so evil.. reminds me of Mr.Posfords best times! I'm in love with this track ever since I saw this video of an Artha liveset... the track in the last third of this video: youtube.com/watch?v=DXmOpVxl368 Is there any chance to get any further information about this track, as in where and when this will be released or what the title is to look out for? Maybe? Pleeease?
  4. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I must admit, when I read "dark" and "Goa", I am sold. But I really agree about the sample overuse. It is like any of the 7 minute tracks has at least 5 minutes of speech layered on top of them. It's really too much. The music itself is great, however, and I got "and they were singing" stuck in rotation for a while now. Hell of a track.
  5. Great track, I love how the different intertwined melody layers reflect the emotions in this search .. there is confusion, hope, despairation in it...I think this reflects the story really well. Thanks for sharing!
  6. Ah, the Tempest Remix Contest, good times.. was fun remixing that one Liking that atmospheric track, good composition and also food for imagination .. maybe want a collab or remix sometime? lol, maybe this is taking this thread a bit off the tracks
  7. Absolutely agree with this. Also, what got me interested in Psy around 10 years ago is the focus on atmosphere...Some of it had much more coherent soundscapes, it was a style that I would label as "explorative music", something that encourages you to discover something underneath the surface. Atmospheres can much better transport a certain setting, be it wisely used samples, drones, pads, stuff like this. I miss this in a lot of Darkpsy now, sadly. In my opinion, a lot of modern Psy seems too "dry" to me. A lot of the stuff is too clean, too raw, and too much in your face. I honestly prefer it if there are more layers of interesting sounds, effects, melodies, etc. A lot of Psy might try to sound "wetter" and "deeper" than average EDM but in the end its not much more than just putting a dub delay on a random vocal sample, like some cheap magic tricks that keep you entertained as long as you have not seen the truth ...anyway, to be honest, at least 95% of full on or Progressive does not do anything for me. When I think about innovative Dark Psy, I must automatically reach back into that time around 10-15 years ago. X-Dream, Spirallianz and The Delta had an impressive take on Techno-Psy, but that style has almost disappeared completely. Nowadays it seems that the only Psy-Tech you can get is some sort of minimal Techno, which is utterly boring to me. Then there was a fusion of Dark Psy and Goa, something that comes to mind when I think about the brilliant album 'Technological' by Toi Doi, which is around 15 years old now if I am not mistaken. Or think about Tim Schuldt/Four Carry Nuts, who made a crazy mix of Dark Psy, Full On and Industrial, end 90s to early 00s. These were shining examples and brilliant ideas on the evolution of a genre, and I know not too few people who feel similarly about this, however all of these great ideas are more or less extinct, which is a damn shame.
  8. Both tracks are awesome. You guys need to do more
  9. lol, just yesterday I was listening to his Infernal Angel album and asked myself where the hell this guy has disappeared 10 years ago, and now this. These previews are really good. A good mix of Dark, Prog, Fullon with atmosphere and a few darker melodies. My cup of tea. http://www.junodownload.com/products/scatterbrain-return-to-dust/2604176-02/
  10. Damn Penzo, this is really great. Something I could imagine printed on a banner and hung on my still far too empty walls This reminds me a lot of some kind of ancient circuit board, found in the ruins of a long extinct civilization. It's fantastic and it gets my imagination going instantly. Easily my favorite from you so far. Glad you're back
  11. well, you can always count on Ghreg on Earth... even though his style is clearly more to the Darkpsy side, I still think he is one of the few beacons of originality in Darkpsy... and the Industrial influences are everywhere. he released a new album a few weeks ago I believe: http://beatspace.com/8095/MindFull+Records/GHREG+ON+EARTH/Photon+Grimoires+/detail.aspx I personally think its okay, but I think "sigilweaver" is still by far his strongest work.
  12. Padmapani, awesome track you posted! I'm not such a huge fan of hardcore and gabber kicks when theyre too distorted but I have to say for this genre some "softer" distorted tonal kicks blend nicely with the rest of the sound. Still think it would be an interesting idea to see this mixed with goa/forest psytrance Also Thanks for the tip about Collision and obs.cur ... heres their soundcloud, some good full tracks on there: https://soundcloud.com/obs-cur# ... I would also be interested in seeing stuff like this live... Sadly acidcore seems to be almost completely unnoticed in germany.
  13. A friend recently brought this very interesting and very small subgenre to my attention, and I was fascinated immediately. The style I want to talk about is often called "mental acid techno", "acidtek" or something like that. A lot of times the good old 303 comes to use, but often not in an all-dominating rule and sometimes as a backup. In fact, this genre seems to fit somewhere in the gap between Acid, Techno, Darkpsy, Industrial and Hardcore, with a very oldschool production (which I consider an advantage for the most part). This is a fantastic track, imo one of the strongest tracks I have heard recently in techno. This has more than just acid-303 spam and focuses more on a dark and deep atmosphere with a driving percussion. The BPM in this style is usually middle to fast (mostly 150-160), and the kick and bass is a bit hardcore-style, with a tonal kick as a constantly droning background. In fact it reminds me a lot of earlier Tech-/Darkpsy, and I can totally see the track working with a Psy-style 1/16 bassline. Another hypnotizing piece of atmospheric Acid, with some melodies. I can see this working well with no problems in any Psy-set on a forest party. this one is maybe one of my all time favorites. The symphony of ultra-dark atmospheres and pounding rythms can't go wrong. This set should give a good overview about the sound I am talking about. Does anyone have any gems to share? peace!
  14. first of all, thanks for your comments. There are a few downtempo or slightly slower break-ish tracks waiting to be released, but they have not been compiled yet. second, I'm here with news: the album has been released!! (see first post) http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/cybernetika-solar-nexus
  15. This is something I am planning for a while. It will be a big undertaking and still needs a lot of effort (when I do it, I want to do it right ). - but it's definitely on the radar, could approach it next year. Thanks for listening
  16. Update: The Album has been Released! now live on ektoplazm: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/cybernetika-solar-nexus 01 - Artificial Bloodline (80 BPM) 02 - Neuronal Interface (178 BPM) 03 - Distress Beacon (177 BPM) 04 - Monolithic (179 BPM) 05 - Bio-Magnetic Tunnel Transport (179 BPM) 06 - Stinger (178 BPM) 07 - Sol Nexus (160 BPM) 08 - Constellations (179 BPM) 09 - The Outcast Of Deadspace (150 BPM) Cybernetika makes a triumphant return to Ektoplazm with Solar Nexus, the long-awaited follow-up to Colossus, released nearly three years ago. In that time Cybernetika has been working hard to further refine his ground-breaking fusion of psychedelic trance and drum n bass, uniting these disparate genres under the aegis of far-future science fiction storytelling. As is customary, Cybernetika has written a short tale to introduce the themes explored on this album: In the dark and barren outer reaches of the universe a small group of genetically modified humans made this hostile region their home. Forgotten by most of human civilization, they developed a wealthy and peaceful society. Nine hundred years after last contact they suddenly appeared out of nowhere with technologies far more advanced than we could ever imagine in our wildest dreams. How could such a small group of a few hundred mutants get so far ahead of us? Would it be possible for us to benefit from their knowledge? The answer is both terrifying and promising: yes, it is possible, by connecting human minds in a galaxy-wide overmind, powered by the energy of a billion sunsthe Solar Nexus. All tracks written, produced and mastered by Cybernetika (Lars Goossens). Artwork by Jonathan Maurin and Maxime des Touches. Enjoy! Thanks for listening and commenting!
  17. immortal tune! on a side note, Noisia have remixed this one in a pretty epic way:
  18. Magnetic is awesome isnt it.. I can hear a lot of influences from a few Goa/Psy artists in tracks from that time. In my personal opinion 2000-2005 was a fantastic time for DnB, seeing all the noncheesy trance influences on DnB tracks from that time, but somehow they got separated again. Don't know why the cover is wrong, its indeed the one of Driving Insane But BSE and Rawthang have worked together on some tracks, not sure where to find them all, but this is one of them. Brilliant stuff with great vocals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpaGcngvlxM
  19. well, I have 2 albums with Psy/DnB style released on Ektoplazm called "Colossus" and "Atropos", and a new PsyDnb-Album in the pipeline to be released soonish, I think it fits the description. .. Thanks for mentioning it Veracohr Since the fusion of hard and fast dnb rythms + basses and layers of melodic and hypnotic synths is so interesting I am constantly hunting for the best and most inspiring tracks in this very small subgenre Here are some of my personal faves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-k2XJQXR_Y Especially the russians seem to be into this stuff, there is some very underground russian stuff from around 10 years ago when this subgenre seemed to be at its peak. This one is one of the most popular - very catchy but still keeps a rough dnb edge with its amen break, liking it a lot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_34Ke8d7DM Paul B is one of those russian Dnb producers who have made a few interesting releases in a relatively short time and then sort of disappeared into the underground again. This track is a little masterpiece imo - early-mid-00s-sound at its best. Heavy layering of busy drumloops, wide reese basses, and playful, trancy melodies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZkWivCM7s0 Future Prophecies made a huge variety of styles on their "Warlords Rising" album, but there are 2 tracks that are definitely worth mentioning. This is one of them... one of the most dark and relentless hyperspeed-rides I have ever heard. The other dark-trancy-dnb track is called "Black Dragon", so look for that one too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRpPzIU-RrM Brilliant effort from Rawthang. Them and Black Sun Empire really got my attention towards DnB. This is how it should be done, with the winning formula: heavy detuned reese basslines, fast-forward drumloops, simple yet effective melodylines and atmospheric backgrounds.
  20. being a fan of schlabb stuff I have to say I like the direction where youre going, and you should definitely stick to it. A bit of cleaning up in the spectrum should do the trick. What I do to eliminate these resonances is 2 things.. a) proper speakers/monitors with a relatively linear frequency curve, these help you find them easier and use an EQ on the channel with a very small peaking band, then sweep that band around until you find the spot where a frequency gets really annoying and overwhelming, then bring that small band all the way down.
  21. this was just brought to my attention... thanks for all the interest in my music as i said in another thread: I definitely had little free time in the past 2 years or so, work and life keeps me busy all the time. I am still making music, just not at my old pace, and there is a lot of unfinished material waiting to be finished. So yes, there will be something coming this year, I am thinking spring to summer.
  22. i like the atmosphere on this one, spooky and unique. One suggestion: try to clean some of the resonances in the mid frequencies and the track will sound a bit clearer and less stressful to the ears.
