This is not secret because it's on Ultimae's pages: https://ultimae.bandcamp.com/ https://ultimae.com/ultimae-summer-sales-2023/

All psydub, basically. Well, more seriously, a lot of roots reggae and dub runs at a tempo that could be described as emphasising (in drumming) only the 1st and 3rd beats of 140-ish BPM, so that we might want to call it 70 BPM instead. Coincidentally, a lot of classic and newschool goa runs at 140-something BPM, allowing a drop from the steady every-quarter beat to the halved reggae/dub pattern. I've sometimes used that in mixes to provide a break from the standard mayhem. Furthermore, if you play kicks for all quarter notes in reggae, you get the steppers rhythm (basically four-on-the-floor before disco made it cool and then it evolved into house) which was used in the classic era of reggae and it comes up in psydub as well. For example, check Vlastur - Steppa9, which is apparently named after that rhythm and it runs at something like 141 BPM due to that drumming, even though it has the half-time dub nature and bassline as well. It's not goa, but it shows how that crossover could work. Then there are some goa tracks which pull off that half-BPM dub switch within the track itself, for example Cosmosis - Spores from Space in its intro/outro and for a brief moment at 4:30 (while the full-speed bassline is still playing). Koxbox - A Major Problem in Australia was remixed to a dub version with that trick by Saafi Brothers, also using steppers-like drumming in some parts of it. Etnica in Dub album does that as well. Are we getting anywhere here? There are opportunities but also challenges in that combination of two quite different BPM ranges. The question might be if the combination can really exist smoothly or do we just have dub with goa hints and goa with dub hints...

Bandcamp Friday returns from its summer break! The next one is August 4th. (Although I think I got a fake announcement from Woob already in July. ) I had some random chaos, events and farewell parties on those Fridays in April and May, thus I didn't place any orders back then, and then the summer break started. Of course, I have some more of that stuff again, but maybe I could make a shopping list beforehand and act fast on Friday? Ultimae has some new releases and represses. DAT Universe released Fractal Glider this spring yet I postponed buying it. Suntrip has new 12"s and pre-orders for Acidum Influxum... The actual special offers, if any, will probably roll in on Thursday/Friday thus it's unlikely that I would have any time to post those, but remember to watch the spaces. Or share some ideas already now.

Bah, let's do this. Or at least try. I've had tons of hassle this year with orders failing in almost every imaginable way. Now the queue of outstanding stuff may be shortening a bit. Some replacements and the Hallucinogen remasters are still on their way but it's about time to sort this incoming-pile. Arrived CDs, this year or so, probably in no particular order: Proxeeus – Non-Euclidean Geometry Proxeeus – Weep From Within Infinite Zen – Goa Generator Various – ZNA Gathering (The Retro-Futuristic Compilation Volume 3) Youth & Gaudi – Stratosphere (CD version this time) Violeta Vicci – Autovia Remixed Various – Illuminations The Orb – The Dream Kurbeats – Folktronica and vinyl... Nervasystem – Underground Culture Kurbeats – Folktronica (this too because why not) Globular – Magnitudes Of Order Pitch Black – Futureproof Pitch Black – Ape To Angel ...and some disco and italo and epic synth stuff and other things that I don't feel like listing right now. Now I can finally archive these somewhere deeper and start pondering new purchases as Bandcamp Fridays are returning soon.

I don't have that CDr, although apparently I do have an old, random mp3 copy of Rotating Fields. The information there probably isn't reliable, but the more interesting part would be comparing whether it's the same version as on the bonus disc of Live in Athens... https://www.discogs.com/master/498247-Etnica-Live-In-Athens-1996
-
Some parts of that description match MP3.com and Etnica Volume 1, others don't. Not that one then? https://www.discogs.com/release/75249-Etnica-Etnica-Volume-1
-
In 2009, Tip Records released a remix of a 1969 Beatles song in some twist of their pseudo-relaunch... https://www.discogs.com/master/300938-The-Zap-Because And then we have stuff like Acid for Nothing, but I think it's all getting too silly.

at the threshold?

Well, even the digital re-release is deluxe edition so it's not about the vinyl cover. At least there are four bonus tracks (two on the vinyl) and remastering. I think they're pretty much free to pick any name for the new edition as there have been no other re-releases in 23 years and thus the only point of comparison is the original. Anything that tops it is deluxer than that.

Oh well, I finally gave in and ordered the Hallucinogen albums. FOMO or something? Actually, I must confess that for some reason I've never had any physical copies of these in any format. Somehow they managed to fall between all the usual reasons of buying (pre-mp3 era CD listening, DJing, habitual collecting etc.). Maybe they were a bit...too iconic? Everyone had already heard them a million times one way or another so why bother. Dunno. It just happened - or more precisely, didn't happen. Well, looks like 2023 is the year when that oddity will finally be fixed. The total with everything came to 100-ish €, but as some kind of justifications, the originals can cost that much each, the package looks neat yet still cheaper than some totally overblown Shpongle LEs, and with pre-charged tax, at least I don't have to deal with our customs and even more taxes for shipping too So, if you have FOMO or a vague feeling of guilt too, there's still a moment left.

Hi Just a reminder about Bandcamp Fridays, which continue in 2023, starting in February (3rd). This time they have a convenient article listing all dates of the year. Note that June and July are skipped. Other months have it. https://daily.bandcamp.com/features/bandcamp-fridays-update I don't have any great tips offers-wise yet but for example, if vinyl is your thing, there may be some interesting stuff in that thread for your shopping list. Personally, I'm already waiting for Kurbeats - Folktronica 2x12" and I'm hoping that it will be available for orders on Friday.

This thread has already sprawled into a few different discussion topics. I'll pick just one of them for this post. I think that in 2022 I learned to listen to music again. Seriously. My recollections may be somewhat distorted already, but in 2021 there were just so many issues with moving, renovations, distractions, stress, maybe even hearing, that I was rarely able to find a moment when I could concentrate on music and really enjoy it. 2022 hasn't been exactly great either, but I think it has been better, especially the latter half. There was even a long-standing issue with HDD space and its organisation, complicating the simple task of downloading and extracting my numerous purchases. Buying stuff is something I've been trying to do and to promote, though, no matter what. Artists have had tough years and I have a constant fear of missing out. Well, now I have more disk space, a week off, and an immense backlog of barely touched music since 2019 or so. Let's see what happens. Reviews not promised, but that's another topic. Now I'll stop here and enjoy some Christmas delicacies.

Dubmission vinyl 50% off NOW: And Suntrip is 20% off for a while (until 19th of December). Bandcamp Friday is probably the best day to buy, though. Now I really really really have to fly. Apologies if I made a copy-paste mistake somewhere. Enjoy.

For a change, some actual campaigns and such from my inbox: Liquid Sound (Bandcamp) announces "Black Friday flash sale, 30% OFF Sitewide, through Cyber Monday 28 November using code: lsdblackfriday30". Not that much stock in there right now, but maybe you can find something. Meanwhile: "The entire Androcell bandcamp discography is free for download. Thank you for your support over the years." Bandcamp Friday also returns on December 2nd. Last chance to stretch your Christmas stocking to a ludicrous degree with LPs? Last time it indeed went just as expected for me - had some late evening event on Friday, messages started arriving with no chance to browse anything, placed a small order well after midnight (local time). And now I just realised that next Friday I have two events. Oh well, let's see if I manage to get my orders in during the work day...

My "today" is still quite flexible, but this time it has been less than four months, not one year and four months... Hopefully this is roughly correct. Lunar Dawn – The Purge (CDr) Youth & Gaudi – Astronaut Alchemists - Select Remixes (12") Youth & Gaudi – Stratosphere (LP) Erot – Gneiss EP Aes Dana – (a) period. Aes Dana – Interstice | Live Set Cell – Onwards System Various Selected By Christian Samsara – Isolated Makyo – Dakini Records - Recollections Comments: At the time of writing, Liquid Sound still has a few "slightly wonky" signed copies of that Astronaut Alchemists 12". Nowadays they also handle UK->EU taxes on the Bandcamp side, which is nice. Dealing with the customs is still annoying (and more expensive), even though the process has been streamlined here in recent years. Ultimae just got another pressing of Gneiss and Period, which I managed to miss once. I think their output has improved in general again, compared to some years when it was a total glitchfest. Their communications and extras are still heartwarming, and the latest shipment arrived on the same week (Mon->Fri), which is remarkable because international shipping still has its issues, and our local post sometimes sits on parcels for several days. I've also got a bunch of disco and a few 90s electronic classics. Not listing those now.

They will. On Friday. To quote myself from this very thread: This Friday I have streams to watch, thus even less time to browse releases. Therefore anyone who posts on Thursday instead may get my money. (Sorry, no specific ideas yet. I may have some interesting, fairly recent newsletters in my inbox but I have to dig in there to find them.)
-
Another Bandcamp Friday on November 4th! Are you excited?! (I'm not entirely sure myself but posting the friendly reminder anyway.)
-
Bandcamp Friday this Friday! (October 7th) Post tips! You can suggest hot releases even without any discounts! I'm a bit busy myself right now but for a start, Ultimae already has 20% off everything until 9th. Why not order on Friday? Meanwhile, I also heard something about Kurbeats...

Last posted here in February 2021, WTF? Unfortunately, I still had some issues with inspiration and all that, but at least I have a formidable "incoming" pile here. (Definitely not received today.) Let's check it while I add it to my Discogs collection too... Median Project – Another Galaxy Various – Suntopia Afgin – Eternal Freedom Battle of the Future Buddhas – Songs from a Forgotten Memory Tim Schuldt – Retrospecter Filteria – Live with the Lag Carbon Based Lifeforms – Stochastic Saafi Brothers – Make Pictures with the Sound Kuba – Relative to the Sun Pitch Black – Mixes + Mavericks Gaudi – Sub Signals Vol.2 Various – Goagilde (Norway's Got Goatrance) Proxeeus – Perversion And Insanity Stereo Dwarf – Echoes of Existence Globular – A Self-Fulfilling Prophecy Globular – Magnitudes of Order Globular – Holobiont Globular – Entangled Everything Globular + Geoglyph – Messages from the Resonator That was the nearest CD batch. There are probably a few others, some vinyl releases, less related genres and so on lying somewhere. Let's see if I list those later...

Would have been nice but last winter and spring were a complete train wreck in so many ways. Too much stress and uncertainty to plan any trips. I already missed one rare event which was postponed twice from 2020. When it finally happened this summer, I couldn't make it. Bummer. I only managed to fix my vacation days (and some of my plans) a week or two ago. Now I'm mostly decompressing at home and visiting a few local events later. We can hope that 2023 is finally the real year of travelling with less of this nonsense and chaos. Anyway, good luck and sunny days to everyone who is going already this year.

It's a tricky question but how about Eat Static - Contact (Eat Static Remix). I find assorted weirdness there.
-
Phew, it's already late in here. If someone manages to spot this while BF is still on, some quick tips: Globular has five CD albums available as a bundle for a nice price on this page: https://globular.bandcamp.com/album/a-self-fulfilling-prophecy Dubmission's Sub Signals 2 (selected by Gaudi) can be pre-ordered on LP now: https://gaudimusic.bandcamp.com/album/sub-signals-vol-2 I had to skip the latter, though, because tax+shipping for UK->EU is pretty high, and there's a chance that I'd end up paying the tax twice. Let's hope that they manage to find a European partner as hinted in the newsletter. Australia, New Zealand, UK and USA already have one, hence you should get better shipping+tax rates there. Good night. I should go and grab some local early bird deals tomorrow morning, but it's either that or sleep. Decisions...

Another Bandcamp Friday coming soon, possibly the last one for 2022. A few of the previous ones have been complete trainwrecks for me with very little time or brain power to think about anything. Now the worst might be over, but I'm still a bit out of ideas. Do you have any? The earlier rant about every single offer arriving simultaneously during work hours on Friday still stands, BTW. I even have a gaming night then, thus I won't be listening through everyone's catalogues at midnight. Sorry.
