  1. Exactly. If you are used to your monitors, headphones or whatever, don't change anything with each album you'll listen to. Your speakers and the room where you listen to music is your reference, you know and have an expectation (for good and bad) how certain things will sound there.
  2. Some great stuff you guys make! Really nice sound, I'm sensing some good oldschool drums and stuff too, loving it.
  3. If you like the industrial sound I recommend you Fear Factory, Nine Inch Nails, Static-X, KMFDM, Atari Teenage Riot, ... Don't know a lot of names, but these groups are pretty varied. But there is only one Rammstein.
  4. Just discovered this today, it's not bad actually. There are a bit of the typical boring full on tricks sometimes, but overall it's quite a nice track. Reminds me a bit of Pigs In Space around the 4th minute, or the psytrance from 10 years ago. Loving those Nord Lead FM sounds! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gbk_X6r6kmc&fmt=18
  5. That cover art... We've reached a new psychedelic low. I'm not really a Muses Rapt fan except for some singles, this doesn't sounds like it's going to interest me.
  6. A bit more psychedelic this one. At first it had a bit more layers but it sounded a bit too hectic, hope I got a good balance now, I still wonder a bit. Mostly inspired by listening to Prana and Rhythmysteca, and lots of MS20 in this one! 7. First of all, don't mind the mastering. You, as an artist, don't need to master. First learn to mix your songs. The most important thing regarding mixing, in my opinion, is setting your levels of each audio track. I've got a feeling that you 've put all the levels of each bus in a way that everything is equally loud (or you got a nasty limiter on the master bus, in that case get rid of it, you don't need it, whatever youtube tutorial you have seen. You want to make goa trance, not commercial fucked up electro or dubstep am I right). The result of that is that there is some clipping, and a lack of dynamics. Imagine it's like having a conversation with someone who always has the same tone of voice, and is speaking constantly on the same volume - that's not nice to hear. Because when he screams, it sounds as loud as when he whispers. No dynamics = no IMPACT = no ups and downs = no life in it. It's the same with music. Musically I think there are some good things in it. But I really don't like the kick, it's way too digital and doesn't have a good oomph. It's partly my taste as well but it could have more low mid. The melodies are quite all right actually, it has a sort of playful suomisaundi feel to it. But it needs a bit more variation, and maybe a bit more 'rest' in the middle, like 4:18 but without the melodies in the higher octaves. Just keep practising and listening to the artists who you think have an interesting sound, this can be promising.
  8. Hehe thanks for the reply.
  9. Acidic goa trance, with a bit of an oldskool sound. Orgasms may occur.
  10. The kick and bass sound really hollow imo, a bit too much 'software'-ish.
  11. Many THINK that they can build a good track after a few years of practice only... I don't see any differences in acoustic or electronic instruments, in case of getting to know your instruments. Synthesizers are more about synthesis (figures), acoustic instruments more about technique, virtuosity and things like that.
  12. It floated around in p2p networks years ago, indeed an awesome mix. Has some GMS, The Delta, that kind of stuff. Awesome psytrance, I'll look it up when I'm home.
  13. No offence, but if you don't really know what it takes to master, then why even bother mastering it at all?
  14. The sad thing is that this happens all the time with every release I hear (I say 'almost' because I don't follow every release ). Especially the free releases; all work is done by friends for friends, which is of course not a bad thing, but it leads to amateurism (someone who knows that you can't boost your volume higher than 0 dB on the master track is 'good enough'), which leads to bad products. But it's the same for the releases you pay for, only in a bit better quality. You'll probaby read the words 'true to' and 'dynamics' in every mastering engineer's biography, but this doesn't mean they actually respect their words. Maybe because they don't have a clue, maybe because they just like it REALLY LOUD SO EVERYONE CAN NOTICE HOW CRYSTAL CLEAR THEIR WORK IS. Maybe because they think they're doing the right thing, I don't know. But I'll bet my cat on it that any good mastering engineer with experience outside of goa trance will smash whatever newschool release you have to pieces.
  15. Something to think about... --> http://soundcloud.co...p-by-step-guide <--
  16. Great, I also wanted to make a mix like this but he beat me to it. Thanks for sharing! By the way, do all the mixes stay online at the Goat Ranch?
  17. Yeah, what about practically every goa and trance hit?
  18. The only thing I can tell is that that sample is pretty common in 90's tracks, in all genres (even heard it in some recent drum & bass). The track itself is pretty good, hope you can find it...
  19. You got a website or something? Tracks to compare, price lists?
  20. Wooaaah nice, I always thought it was a previously unreleased track! He's really an awesome artist, he still has it..
  21. I wonder why they don't throw in a couple of unreleased track on those compilations...
  22. Holy shitballs, this topic is posted EXACTLY 54 years after Saab produced its first car...
