  1. hey anyone know what x-dream used for their older stuff? Prophecy maybe?
  2. "neil young - harvest moon / hey hippies, fuck your phish, THIS is where its at!!! bloodhound gang - the bad touch / of course!!!!!!! yer a total dweeb if you dont like this! frank zappa - joes garage / its franks only serious deep and epic song! well, the whole album is..." damn, im going to have to check out bloodhound gang, never heard of them but joes garage and harvest moon are 2 of my all time favs. The only thing i dont like about Joes Garage is that the title track was the first zappa track i ever heard...it sucked starting with the best with all frank's music. Watermelon in Easter Hay though, i think that might be the best Zappa track. for psy i would have to go with Beast - Spawn, no contest there.
  3. "And how would you react if he says that he did this all the time before he started to make a track for his previous Hallucinogen-albums? Don't be too hard on the man, would you?" yea but thats just the point, of course he didnt. It would be one thing if they took breaks to play video games and winner GETS to make music, not the loser goes and has to make music. I assume that comment was tongue in cheek but then again i really dont know. That is how it sounds to me and im no simon basher(shit, im sitting here right now with my old school twisted records tshirt on)
  4. wow, that sounds fantastic. i almost cant believe that is a brand new track.
  5. haha i was just going to post that same quote. That pretty much sums it up for me as far as Posford goes. His old stuff is god like but after the first shpongle album i just dont think he had anything left to prove and can just get by on his past reputation. I do respect him though for not putting out a hallucinogen album that is less than what would be expected. Im sure he could easily crank out a full album and make alot of cash no matter how bad it was. The only hope i have left is that some day dark psy completely takes over and hes forced to make a dark psy album. For now, judging from his press photos hes much more interested in just being a rock star and enjoying his success.
  6. ". Also the tracks by Tristan vs. Laughing Buddha" ohhhh that sounds really nice. If only he would hook back up with Process again.
  7. "OMG where r the yumade/3 point turn Guys????" yea no shit, where the fuck is PAPS!! "vibes from the other side" was like darkpsy 6 years ago. i will certainly be checking out this album
  8. anyone else like me love pleiadians but not really like etnica? i really dont like any etnica album, however the trip tonight remix is one of my top ten all time.
  9. the only full on i can stand is PHI, they are pretty full on but pretty pyscho and original yet.
  10. "eah, it is. but its like "too much of a good thing". if you know what i mean. that can actually be a bad thing. but still in my top 10 movies of all time." ever see guy ritchie's movie Snatch? I love pulp fiction, and although Richie has some Terrantino influence obviously in the flick, Snatch is way better. funnier, weirder, more non linear, more coherent, everything comes togather..best villian ever. Not even going to comment on how stupid this album is, but kill bill is a cool movie in an arthouse kind of way. A hell of alot better than 99% of the shit from hollywood.
  11. does anyone have a microwave XT? I really need a knob box and the XT could serve as a knob box plus a killer synth. 2 questions, i thought i read you cant use different wavetables for the 2 different oscilators? that would suck. Also, how close does the wavetable oscilators sound to a normal oscilator if the wavetable is making a saw or a square? Im just trying to get a feel for the range of non metalic sounds it can make. Im not sure what MWNN or Total Eclipse used. Maybe if anyone knows what artist used as a signature sound we could list them. koxbox - prophecy Bamboo Forest - tons of k2000 Simon - k2000 Beast - analog modular, k2000 and an eventide formant filter for those weird alien vocal sounds. I love to know what Shakta used, alot of his stuff sounds like real analog but im not sure.
  12. "I think the reason is, because the technology for creating music developped a lot..." well the technology for recording has improved alot but i think what passes for a good synth has been greatly reduced. The biggest thing i hear sound wise is that there really arent any great software filters, so you dont have all the crazy tweaky filter cutoff madness going on today like in the older stuff. I think eventually people will rediscover the old synths and start making stuff that sounds different again.
  13. hehe commercial??? what kind of crack are you smoking. if you like the album check out the video i made for thothsphere. I didnt realize the end of the track kicked so much ass when i made it though, i probly wouldnt have used the first 5 minutes but the last. http://www.vbcam.net/kov/
  14. i doubt it has much to do with your physical ears and more to do with your mind is concentrating and more fully enveloped in the music, so things sound louder and you can percieve things you normally would have just ignored.
  15. oops, sorry about the mp3, i realize now you cant have that going on here or things could get real hairy. "Well so, back to feb 99. At that time I had a super shitty computer, and it was already a pain to encode in mp3s, I didn't bother about the quality back then. I ripped the tracks out of the MD, encoded them with Xing, and a few weeks later" great story " I did some mistake or I don't know what but i uplaoded these tracks to some friend's ftp in NYC...and all spread." jules i think i actually remember your name from that site.
  16. Im also in the boat of really only wanting to deal with analogue if its a modular. Some of the sounds ive heard(especially what Process has done with audio rate modulation stuff, like the end lead filter FM sound in beast - spawn, nothing else can do that). The reason i dont have one though(beyond the expense) is i know that having to write down the patch cable connections in order to re-create a patch would drive me completely insane. I really wish some company would make some kind of computer interface to a modular, like all the processing is done analog but just the patching is done digitally. Also with the z1 vs the prophecy i think its because the z1 boasts "better" DAC or something like that. I know one thing with the prophecy is the outputs are pretty shitty on alot of machines. Those "better" Z1 DAC's sound really cheesy to my ears though. Even the physical models are more cheesy sounding than the prophecy. A really sick cheap synth too is the Korg Oasys PCI if you have an old computer sitting around. Its not as raw as the prophecy, doesnt sound cheesy at all like the z1 and sounds "bigger" than both of them. Its really sick for analog sounds(easy the best digital analog ive ever heard) its not so good though for more out there analog type sounds, the physical models though are UNBELIEVABLE. I sold mine last year because i hadnt had it hooked up much but i will certainly get one again(there is even a reaktor like interface for it that runs on mac to make your own synths on it, although even with knowing reaktor somewhat it completely broke my brain)
  17. "using editors is OK , but a realtime editing is very important , even if you make a good sound with editor , you need modificated it in arrangment ... so bad user interface can spend your creative moments ..." while i totally agree with you, i tend to like synths that not many people use, and the synths that people tend to not use tend to be the ones with really bad interfaces. Im sure the popularity of the virus/nord is mostly because its such a nice easy interface to tweak. I also agree the XT will be a classic, they have held their value extremely well since i started looking at them 5 years ago. Ive been waiting for them to fall inline with the price of other synths from that time(like a virus A) it just never happens!
  18. " if you need realtime control, and easy making your own sounds, here is a JD 800" i agree the JD800 looks like a great synth/keyboard. The reasons i would rather get 990 is that its almost 4 time cheaper than the 800 on ebay, the 800 is starting become "vintage", no body wants the 990 because of the UI. One thing that sucks that i read on the 800 is the controls only output sysex and not midi CC so you probly cant control anything else with the knobs. "It's nice to hear, that the Prophecy sounds at least as good as a Z1" i assure you it sounds WAY better than the z1. I was hoping to get the z1 to tweak koxbox presets but they just arent there, its to "soft" sounding. The best thing about the z1 i had was that i sold it a month after getting it for $150 more than i bought it for
  19. well as the great musician, 20th century classical composer Frank Zappa once put it... dont eat yellow snow
  20. i found antonomasia [removed] 128k mp3 and the mix itself is pretty bad by todays standards but its still fucking awesome. I wouldnt be surprised if all the rips are 128k, there cant be to many dats floating around. anyway, if anyone gets more of the tracks [keep them for yourself] fuck the dat mafia trance express!@ [sorry, no mp3 trading on psynews, we already got into trouble with Cosmosis because of that]
  21. " i think P. have some hardware latency ... after , when im buying a Z1 ,same synthesizer technique , but not so fat like Prophecy ..i think i need one ,again Prophecy...." yea that was my experience too. The z1 was the last hardware synth i bought and i sold it after about 3 weeks. I thought it would sound at least as good as the prophecy but the sound was really cheesy, not raw at all. goasia does the JD 990 sound the same as the jd 800? I just dont want to buy it and have the same thing happen as with the z1. After posting last night i found info on the JD 990, im really thinking of getting one now since they are pretty cheap on ebay. I dont mind programming rack synths with a software editor.
  22. "I know they used the JD800 a lot for their typical lead sound." thank you so much for this information, its a big "AH-HA" for me. I had pretty much given up and assumed they were useing some kind of modular, i always figured their more metalic sounds were some form of fm(ive never got close to getting any of their sounds with FM though) I see how with the JD800 weird waveforms that would give the metalic sound. do you know anything else they used? Would you say the JD800 was their main synth? Ive been looking up info on it all night, it looks like a really cool synth. Roland is one of the synth companies i really know nothing about. "I must agreee that reaktor sounds a bit thin. Sure you might be able to make if fat by stacking and processing. Somehow to me it seems like a good idea to stick with instruments that I like the sound of without too much work." yea, if i was just getting into synthesis and making goa i wouldnt even bother with reaktor. It often seems people say its the most flexible synth, but that tends to be for sounds that really dont make sense for goa/psytrance. Reaktor doesnt even come close to sounding analog. You can get a bit of the analog "wet" filter sound by stacking 3 or 4 copies of the same filter with slight varitions in cutoff/rez, but its still to clean sounding. "But both that and the virus is so extemly overused in trance so it's the first two hardware synths I would sell if I had them." hehe yea please, everyone needs to stop using these synths, im so sick of hearing them.
  23. does anyone have this on mp3 since it was never pressed to cd? http://www.discogs.com/release/543012 you have to be fucking kidding me.... its like lost treasure...
  24. goasia, i love the tracks ive heard from you... first, if you think reaktor is thin, try this synth http://www.vbcam.net/kov/simplePSY.rar The problem with reaktor is no one really programs it much that makes psy so you really have to learn alot to get good sounds from it. That synth is about 5 different good parts of other synths mashed togather. Reaktor can sound "old school phat", what im still trying to figure out is how to make it sound more dirty like older synths. With such a nice studio though of digital synths i dont think you would get much from reaktor. As fas as the nord modular, ive had 2 micros and have used the g2 software alot. The nord modular 1 sounds just like a nord lead 2 sound quality wise, the g2 sounds like a nord lead 3, clavia changed their algorithms for some reason, i prefer the NM1 sound. I think the g2 has a wider pallet though, almost all patches on the Nm1 have that distinct "nord" sound. If you really want to check out the nord modular 1 sound just listen to old logic bomb and hux flux, that was basically "their" sounds. Personally though with goasia's setup i would forget the nord modular because you could get a korg prophecy and kurzweil k2000 for the same price as the modular. Those 2 synths were like what the virus and nord lead are today. Old koxbox/psychopod is the sound of the prophecy, almost every memorable hallucinogen synth patch is from the k2000. I even remember people bitching about koxbox using to many prophecy presets on their albums Also, there is the novation basstation, thats a huge classic. The only old school artist i still cant figure out what the fuck they are using is the pleiadians....
