  1. I agree that the sampling really hurts this album. I'd release an instrumental version if I were him.
  2. ya that's for time stretching. actually the version of fruity i use doesn't even do timestretching, it just slows down or speeds up the sample so it fits to 16/32/64/etc beats. i like that though because it feels old skool and can produce some cool unexpected results. man i have to echo what you said too about there being a million ways to do everything. for that reason fruityloops has to be one of the coolest programs ever made. it's just so... friendly. like it's one of the few programs where i actually feel like it's working with me. like there's nothing hiding, all of it's just right there in front of me at all times. i also love how everything is 3D and you can have you're own background. that's why i like the old version of ACID too, it's totally gay and happy and everything's rainbow colored. i love it when people who aren't familiar with any of this stuff ask me what i use to make my music and my answer is "FRUITYloops and ACID!" i mean it really lowers the risk of taking oneself too seriously.

  4. well to be honest i could never find this: and that's just such a basic thing and so i was just turned off from the very beginning. and i thought about it and decided why even bother? i can use vst's for everything i need and i do my tracking in ACID anyways. maybe i just don't know what i'm missing, but i can't think of anything else i need.
  5. i am very happy with my sony mdr-v600s. they weren't very spendy either.
  6. is anyone else still using fruityloops 3? i fucking love it. been using it for about 7 years now and i still have no reason to upgrade.
  7. i heard this on nwtekno actually, really enjoyed it. love the vocoder.

  9. just came here to suggest the secondary lead thing but you beat me to it! i think that would really help.
  10. UPDATE I remixed the album with two new tracks to replace the confusing ambient parts. One is tribal/middle eastern influenced dnb that transforms into some fast 4/4 psy, the other is a bass heavy dub/downtempo track. It's also mastered now. Uploaded it in 160kbps format instead of 128kbps this time. So here you go: http://www.abortnow.com/kixotek-hypertextu...estversion).mp3 Feedback has definitely helped, thank you all very much.
  11. alright I finally got a chance to listen to news.mp3.. In general, I really like it, it has great potential, it reminds me very much of good Vibrasphere. My constructive criticism would be: The break you are using is good and fits well, but since it is so recognizable as a "stock" break, I would just go over it and replace it with your own beat that follows the same pattern, but doesn't sound so familiar. I felt the violin plucking was unnecessary and took something away from the overall track, made it sound kind of casio-ish. The sequencing of the lead is great, but there were a few places where I felt it went up and down the scale to obviously. The 4/4 beat sounds great, and fits very well. But it feels like it comes in too suddenly to me, and and at that point the break/ride could probably be taken out. Is it supposed to end at 2:38 or did I not download the whole thing?
  12. listening on laptop speakers so I'm sorry I can't give very helpful feedback. but I love this to bits! except the pad... The bass is so cool that it just seems bland in comparison. then the only other thing was the lead seemed too loud but right as it came in myspace failed and I couldn't listen to the rest. Seriously this is awesome. Start a whole new sound!
  13. Thank you Reger for that in-depth review it's very, very helpful. And Nexus, thank you too. I am going to go through the whole thing again and i think i'll probably take out alot of the ambient stuff and replace it with more beats. Thank you! The feedback is really helping, I would certainly love some more if anyone else is willing.
  14. THANK YOU for saying exactly what I REALLY wanted to say!
  15. Thanks again. I've got the full album for you right here if you want it: http://www.abortnow.com/kixotek-hypertextures.mp3 Still trying to find the time to get 320's up somewhere...
  16. Sorry I only read up til the third page of replies but I just want to chime in. I've been going to his yearly parties out here in Oregon since 2004, and have a memorable time, every time. It's different than a normal party for me. It's alot more like what I wish Christmas would be like. I love the quiet anticipatation in the air in the days before he arrives, then the excitement that passes over the entire camp when he gets there from who knows where on the other side of the world, and then the passing into the night with the drum invocation. I don't think he is some God or anything, but fuck it, it's a holiday when he's around these parts! I am willing to suspend my disbelief for one weekend to have the experience.
  17. thanks very much f0rce it means alot i'm from Oregon in the US .:. [i'm sorry for any confusion, I had originally posted a track in progress but then decided I didn't want to waste people's time with it and tried to delete my post but could not. I do appreciate the comments on the stuff in my sig very much though.]
  18. i don't think it's permanent, but due to all of the options that are being presented to us in terms of new vst's and new technology that will make your music sound unique and/or listenable if you use enough of them, people are just going wild, and forgetting about the music. not only that, but these new vst's are so non-linear in the way they are meant to be used, (listen to a loop, go back, tweak a little, listen, go back, try a new preset, etc...) that it's like, as the person writing the music, the right side of your brain really has to fight to still even be involved in the process, much less in control, and you can hear that in the music. Sure it's polished, and it has interesting sounds, but there is no _flow_. And I don't mean flow, like does it follow the standard techno/psytrance template. I mean the flow of a true artist, where you can tell that they were tapping into a place from deep within. I know very few people who can ever hope to keep their emotions/conciousness/whatever at that level of flow long enough to produce a track using the vst formula, but unfortunately that's what sells right now, so we'll just have to keep sifting until someone comes along and reminds us what it's all about once again.
