  1. Stay strong everybody! The impact this virus has had on the world economy is mind-boggling. The big corona depression. We can only hope that the world gets back on its feet soon enough. I'm optimistic there will come something good out of all of this. More strict screening processes for all travel between countries, seems likely. I do hope other countries put some pressure on China, so that they change their policies on wildlife trade.
  2. The last three tracks sound promising, "No Line in MIDI" has some Acid Killer flavour. *edit* now listening on spotify. The style of the album is more grounded in full-on. As I remember the style atleast, from around the first decade of this millenium. How full-on sounds nowadays or if it even is a thing I don't know. But it's mainly the kick and bass that has that vibe. It's the early 2000 HOM-mega style. The melodies are of course uniquely IM. I do appreciate that the mix is bit scaled back compared to their latest two albums. It's a more minimal sound image, with less layers. "back to basics" It's less heavy metal and more emphasis on acidic distorted melody lines. Ala Acid Killer/classical mushroom era. The melodies however are not as memorable. The overall structure feels more chaotic, there are very long parts of the songs that seem to lack direction. And sometimes equally long parts of the songs are buildups. The Astrix Remix of Symphonatic, is even more full-on stylewise of course. As expected, it's well made though. It sounds as if Astrix took the entire original track in wav, and put a low-cut EQ to filter out the bass and kick. I could be wrong, and perhaps IM had the original stems/separate tracks saved. But it it sounds filtered out to my ears at least. So all the original melodies are present, with their original synthesizer sounds/distortion/FX. Overall this remix is very predictable and plays it safe within the Israeli full-on style. And also because it doesn't change any of the original melodies, the only real changes are in the typical glitch effects used in full-on. And in the arrangement. That beeing said, it will do it's work on dance floors. The essence of the original is there, but in a new coating. The most annoying tracks are"More of Just the Same" and "Only Solutions". Endless buildups and nonsensical cringy lyrics in the first track, not so much buildups in the second, but skippable nonetheless. I understand that these type of tracks, probably get the most hardcorde IM fans hyped on the live sets. But I much prefer tracks that make sense to listen to in headphones at home as well. Like most of the tracks on Converting Vegetarians II, which to date is their best album according to me. Long cheesy buildups make no sense at home. And to me at least neither on the dance floor.
  3. Just discovered this one. The Astrancer track Fenomena is amazing! Easily among his best tracks right up there with Dzog Chen and Namaskara Mudra. I'm sure he has more tracks of this caliber, it's just that they aren't available on spotify etc.

    Psysex-2020

Yes this album has a lot of different styles. I read on Psysex facebook account about this album, that it was a celebration of the Psysex project beeing active for 20 years. Which is reflected in the different styles on this album. Which is great, it’s like a best of Psysex stylewise, with a little something for everybody. Within the psy realm that is. Don’t expect classic goa trance or something. I really like Light Code, as that track captures the essence of what I liked from the Expressions Of Rage album. But with the latest tricks from Psysex 2019 studio. I think Astral Projection should make something like this, a tribute to their collected output.
  5. 4 real, it’s on some next level lately. IRL mindfucks lol
  6. We now have the opposite issue. Everyone lowered their bpm, because they read here that it would make them unique. The impact of this thread is shattering the fabric of spacetime. It sent gravitational waves rippling through space. Soon there will be intelligent lifeforms arriving, from the far reaches of the universe. And then the OP will have some explaining to do. btw love that stela of Akhenaten and his family, you have as your profile picture.
  7. Cool, my favorite Tantrance compilation was Tantrance 5. https://www.discogs.com/Various-Tantrance-5-A-Trip-To-Psychedelic-Trance/release/135616 It had a really good selection I thought at the time, with Miranda-Gnochi, Psychaos-Dense Dawn, Hallucinogen-Synthesizzler and Crop Circles-Full Mental Jackpot (Pleiadians Remix) among my favourites. The Shiva Shidapu-India Spirit track was quite popular here, but that one sounds pretty silly today.
  8. I agree, there are a lot of skippable tracks on "When the Somber.." but the two tracks that are good makes it worth it IMO. 1 to 3 good tracks per album is pretty standard I think. The problem with the bad tracks on this album is that they sound a bit like someone released a cat on the midi piano in some parts. It gets hectically random at times with the melody programming. Also I think it suffers a bit from the fact that it's very inspired by Infected Mushroom, so the bar is set quite high. And if you compare the melodies on some of the skippable tracks, to those on Infected Albums released prior to this Talpa album. It becomes obvious that Infected had some more distinct and memorable melodies. In Moronic Evil RMX and I Feel Nothing, it sounds more controlled. Which I love, these tracks are in the same vein as Four Leaves Clover.
  9. The links to this interview are dead: https://www.psynews.org/forums/topic/66164-artist-mindsphere/ Which exemplifies why putting links to an interview is a bad idea. Instead of pasting the whole interview text to the forum.

    Miranda - Asynja

Yes I think a lot of people misunderstood it, but a lot of people loved it too. According the interview here on psynews from the year 2000, when asked about her upcoming album Asynja, she stated: "It is a little bit back to basics whith more riffs and touch of industrial influences." https://www.psynews.org/forums/topic/37536-artist-miranda/ Which makes a lot of sense in retrospect. This album has grown on me, perhaps because I listened too much on her earlier albums before, so this album became quite neglected. So it sounds fresh today. Favourite track is definitely Groom Lake. Massive kick drum and drive in it, as expected from Miranda. Perhaps this album was stuck somewhere in-between the stylistic developments of the time, it was an era were the general style was changing quite dramatically. The classic goa was long gone, and most stuff had a preponderance towards a darker and more psychedelic edge. So it was a transition period for the psychedelic trance music. Where the direction wasn't quite clear yet, there were lots of new different styles emerging. Some of which branched of and developed into new sub-genres. This album in retrospect has more in common with the classic goa than the stuff that was emerging. Perhaps a bit similar to MFG-The Message, released in 2002. That album was really a farewell letter to the classic style, and the last album they made in that tradition. The same argument could be used here as well, as it was her last proper goa album.
  11. I have played around in Logic Pro X trying to recreate the Gnocchi Kick/Bass/Snare/303 line. Too bad this forum don't allow uploading of audio files. Could that function be added? I would be a very useful feature for the music ID topics and in the music production section as well. Kinda crazy looking back in time on the gear used in the tracks, in the Miranda interview here on psynews she states that she used the Kurzweil K2000 RS. That thing must have been quite cumbersome to work with. Menu diving deluxe. A photo from google:
  12. Fabián Arturo Jiménez Gally aka Farbo has made some very good album covers over the years, and some not so great as well. I picked out the ones I think holds up best visually, and thus it has nothing to do with the music on the album/compilations. Most of which I haven't heard.
  13. Anyone knows on what label this track by Talpa was released? Talpa-Four Leaves Clover *edit* found it: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Midnight-Garden-vs-Abstract-Garden/release/6654748
  14. Cool I need to dig through their catalog as well. I vaguely remember this label beeing talket about a lot before on this forum, around when these threads were started. I’ve only really heard Talpa-When The Somberness Becomes A Game, which I loved two tracks on: I feel Nothing(Original Remix) and Moronic Evil RMX. The other stuff on sundance is not as dark I guess? https://www.discogs.com/Talpa-When-The-Somberness-Becomes-A-Game/release/1522043 And btw, anyone knows if Farbo made this artwork? https://www.discogs.com/Various-Vibraspirit-1123/release/862454
  15. Exactly, you mean Mackie 32/8 bus right? And not the smaller 24/8 bus? Music production became a lot more accessible indeed. For good and bad, not that having all that gear in the 90's was a guarantee for the quality. But atleast if a label invested in someone, it would hopefully mean they predicted to get a return on their investment. Lots of people paid for getting access to a fully equipped studio as well. And I would assume that knowing people with nice studios was a way in for a lot of people as well.
  16. I agree. My own experience is that, since psytrance music rarely has any lyrics. And mostly have anonymous artists, not common with photos on the covers. What else is there really left to dissect and connect with? The music and technology behind, and the album artwork, pretty much. Not that it isn’t fun to dissect music of other genres as well. Often the most searched for things in regular music with lyrics, are the lyrics, chords and music videos. And if the artist has an interesting life/persona, that too of course. Lyrics, chords and music videos aren’t really common in psy trance. Infected Mushroom are probably one of the few groups, in the genre who do have those sometimes.
  17. Btw, listening to gnocchi, there are other very nice little tricks here and there. The snare programming is interesting, there seems to be a snare reversed inbetween the regular hitting snares. In order to create a sweeping "swosh" effect. There was a lot of individual tricks to stand out in early goa/psy trance. Before it became slightly more formulaic. Compared to nowadays when there are a gazillion youtube tutorials for everything.
  18. So how is the artist/group project name pronounced? Very weird spelling/word. Lol
  19. The topic is going out of its trajectory lol
