Rarest goa/psy releases ever

Recommended Posts

Can we make a list of some of the rarest goa/psy cd/vinly releases ever?

This one for example seems to be very rare since I get requests for sale/trade almost every month.

Anything else?

Should we define rarity by supply, demand or their ratio? For example...

- Koxbox Live at Burning Man 1996 was a test pressing estimated at 20 copies. Not that many people are looking for it actively. (It's a bit of gimmick item with only modest differences to released material.) Nevertheless, one copy sold on Discogs for $656.

- Let's say mr. whoever self-releases a crap CDr and manages to sell five copies before quitting. It's very rare but not sought after.

- IFO was released properly in multiple full pressings without any intended "limited edition" tricks or problems. Probably several thousands of copies exist. It's not rare in the absolute sense, but 440 discoggers have it on their want list at the time of writing, and VG copies go for 60e or something.

So you can get a lot of requests for a reasonably well supplied item because even more people want it, or maybe just a few (very generous) offers by hardcore collectors for a truly obscure item. Both can be listed, but are you specially after absolute or relative rarity?

Good point.

I guess it's a combination of all those 3. I mean to be rare it must be a limited release, doesn't it? I don't consider IFO rare for example for the reason you just mentioned.

But at the same time it must be by some 'legit' producer. I can release a 5 copies CDr myself that doesn't make it rare does it?

It does make it rare. Anything below 100 copies is damn rare. But that doesn't mean it will instantly be worth much at all.

There's a ton of rare and sought after releases. Like http://www.discogs.c.../release/332369

Can't believe he's asking 1.2k out of it and it's only VG..

It's also interesting to note that apparently Auracle recordings still had a bunch of Crop Circle releases but they were destroyed. Thus the CD of Lunar Civilization is also incredibly rare.

Some other's notable

http://www.discogs.c.../release/328741

Pretty much whole blue moon productions, goddamn I wish the moon child album was better pressed. It's really amazing. As is Hunab-Ku.

I'm interested to know how do releases like Pleiadians inflate so much when there were thousands of copies pressed. Twice. Same goes for very average releases that go for 40+. Even bad one's can go for 100's..

And I mean seriously, these sellers who ask a lot of money know what they are doing. They are waiting for someone to cave in, they are looking to make a bigger buck; don't buy from them. It will only increase the chances that other sellers increase their prices I guess. I've noticed my short time of collecting that there are sellers who keep same releases at same prices for years.

Goa Gate seems to be a collector item already: http://www.discogs.c...release/1323275

This last sold on Sep 28, 2011.

Highest: €14.90 Lowest: €9.95 Average: €12.32 Median: €12.39

I miss it from my collection but don't think I'd ever pay that price.

By the way, harald, do you happen to have any copies left?

1. Xenomorph-Cassandras Nightmare, I've been looking for this one for years.

2. U-Recken-Aquatic Serenade, This one is selling for $109.00 on Discogs. I want the cd because it is beutiful music but at the same time I dont understand why is so hard to find and highly expensive.

3. Ectima-Ground Defense, this one is virtually impossible to find unless I want to download it.
