Me, when I move from one place to another, I usually add a mix of old classics that I can go back to when I need to hear some comforting stuff, with music that I still need to discover (forcing me to check these albums out) and some stuff that I do know, but feel like I need to explore more.
Also, there has to be a big enough mix of styles. Something of everything. Here's what's my 2 Gb eyePod holds today. What's on yours? And why? :)

Pole - 2 [minimal, atmospheric, abstract and clicky dub]
Waldeck - Ballroom Stories [jazzy, loungey stuff]
dj Mint - Messy Lec [fat ass electro]
Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein [underground hiphop
Pink Floyd - The Delicate Sound of Thunder [PF collection, didn't know which album choose, heard each single one a million times]
Marzipan & Mustard - Fuze [recommended idm-ish stuff that I needed to check out]
Radiohead - Hail to the Thief [one of Radiohead's albums I don't know so well yet]
The Congos - Heart of the Congos [one of many Lee Perry produced reggae classics]
Jon Hopkins - Insides [een van de mooiste idm releases van 2009]
Near the Parenthesis - L'Eixample [nice clicks, blips, beeps and melodies]
Mos Def & Talib Kweli - Blackstar [one of my alltime favorite hiphop records]
VA - Lo Editions Presents Ninja Tune [collection of ninja tunes, didn't know which artist album to put on my eyePod]
Pink Floyd - Obscured by Clouds [Pink Floyd created this album for a movie]
Organized Konfusion - Organized Konfusion [OLDskool! hippedy hop]
Tangerine Dream - Phaedra [synth ambient classic of prog/synth rock groep from 1974]
Radioactive Man - Radioactive Man [electro, idm, house, whatever... Seraph recommended this artist to me, first album I checked out I loved, this one I have yet to rate]
Plastikman - Sheet One [another classic, this time I'd call it minimal, atmospheric, trippy techno. Doesn't have all that much in common with what they call 'minimal' these days]
The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin [group that I don't love all the way yet, although they have made some really beautiful songs]
The Polyphonic Spree - Together We're Heavy [kind of hippy singalong band with I don't know how many members in dresses]
Mikey Dread - World War III [Jamaicaanse reggae-dj, good old dubby shit]

Did you listen to any of them ?

Downloaded most of 'em, I did know that Beastie Boys already, I have listened and really dug the Heliocentrics indeed, but the rest is on the waiting list to be downloaded onto my iPod, so I can give it some serious listening time. This weekend I'll have to refresh what's on my iPod, so next week I can let you know more. :)

On my music players I have all the best sounding tracks I can find on beatport in WAV format and also classic futuristic albums that mostly came out around 2004. It makes me feel nostalgic in a futuristic kind of way.

Actually I don't want to do this. I'd be giving away quality ideas of artists. I want to keep it a secret. Besides I can't be bothered.

I like to compile 1Gig minidiscs of tracks that go together nicely and like listening to them as a solitary idea with each disc. I have about 30, each with about 7 albums worth. These are some of them - I get a great amount of valuable listening fun from them and my minidisc player sounds superior with its HD amp.

Techra Tracks - I got the idea of this about tracks that seem to fit with a futuristic suburban environment, and listening on the bus or in McDonalds. Part 1 has:

Freq - Strange Attractors
Atmos - 2nd Brigade
Kruger and Coyle - Randy Expander
Atmos - Overlap
Electric Universe - Unify

.. plus a few other tracks I can't remember the names of.

I really can't be bothered proceeding so I'll just share with you my minidisc concepts:

Fun Tracks - tracks that are fun and sophisticated, bright, a nice fun track family etc.
Future Tracks - tracks that give a sense of the future
Cool Tracks - tracks that sound cool, rathar than fun
Darkboy Tracks - Tracks that characterize a Darkboy stuff like:

Session - linkin park
The Drake Equation - seyton
Money - orb club mix
Rise - phony orphants
Smooth Criminal - michael jackson
Vordhosbn - Aphex Twin

I really can't be bothered with this either but I really can't see how I can be enjoying music more.... :)

I have one of the newer generations of ipod, with room for 8 gb.
I put them in by album.

Pink Floyd - The Wall cd1 and 2. - Classic.

Mikael Simpson - B sider og andre triste radiomix, Some music to tickle my danish nationality, a mix of dubby rock and pop, melachonic at the same time, but not really something other than danes might enjoy.

Eat Static - Back to earth, didn't feel it as accomplished as an album but has some great songs in it.

Smith And Mighty - Bass is maternal. An old cd by my standards that i feel is very retro, great hits in between.

Evan Bluetech - call of the wild EP, a free release i thought interesting. Very good actually.

Electric Universe - Cosmic Experience, a little something to even out alot of the down tempo music i have on my ipod, i don't listen to it that much though.

Bob marley & the Wailers, Destiny: live at studio one.

Ineffable Mysteries from shpongleland - Didn't capture me that lot, haven't listen too much to the release but i foresee it will grow on me.

John Coltrane - A love supreme.

Alien Mental - Mind Hack, one of the most random sounding darkpsy i've ever heard, Won't say too much because i don't know how i feel about it.

Brian Eno - More music For films

Dub Tractor - more or less mono - One of my favourite artists, also dubby poppish sound with ingeniously implemented guitar.

Solar Fields - Movements, for the long trainrides where i can relax and wander off into beautiful soundscapes

Kettel - Myam James 2, one of my newer additions to my small and humble collection. I love it.

Prince - N.E.W.S. Some funky cheese.

Autechre - Quaristice, not my favourite.

A rubadub sunday in copenhagen. More reggae.

Sanaton Records Audio Trips #1, haven't listened to it throughoutly.

The Killers - Sawdust.
